Part 2? Do we want a part 2? I kinda do…. **also, final lists are in the desc. sorry if it got cut off by YT things** Hello everyone! Just wanted to say I tried as hard as I possibly could to rate these fairly but it’s not perfect (of course). You may rank something way higher due to your own preferences so I included all the sliders here too. Also, the SWAG factor is because there are some more intangible things that are hard to add to the overall ranking (loopwheel for example may be very important to someone but worthless to someone else). Lastly, some of you may love heavy weight and others may love light weight. The reason it’s used in the overall value calculation is due to taking the amount of material used into account for the price. Again, not perfect but gave it a shot!
Bronson has super heavy sweatshirts for a part 2. 21oz military reverse weave seems to be a repro of vintage Champion. I do find the neck opening on it too small for me but yeah. It's there, it's very high quality and really quite cheap.
I've always said that. It's probably because he has little time for videos, so he's not able to put out multiple videos a week and is lucky to have weekly so he doesn't reach as many people. His older ones had a lot more humor in the editing, which has been high quality for a while, but he's also started a clothing line of his own. He first made a denim jacket ( the prologue) and a black denim jacket, then a wool jacket(the mammoth) , and special edition jacket. And recently he redid the prologue in a different fit and company, and chapter 1, his selvedge denim jeans that I'm super excited to get and have been wanting for months now. I should be receiving them in November sometime. I have a ton of jeans, but I wish the jacket was here already. This is one of my favorite people on RUclips. We all love Michael. Happy you are here!
Honestly everybody needs some fashion advice. I’ve binge watched his videos for a while now, and found my own style I like. All because of what he talked about. I also know what could go with what, and what will work and not work together. It’s a channel that’s not popping off but it’s the quality of his videos with information that is so useful, you can use it for yourself as well
"Arborwear Cotton Double Thick", da best. It's 2x13oz sweaters sewn together to make the best work sweater of all time and it fits a hardhat under the hood but without one you kinda look like a sith lord, I ordered an athletic grey version for at home.
"If you wear this... you probably wear Iron Heart denim, you wear PNW boots, you want overbuilt products, especially if you're tall" I have never felt so incredibly and specifically called-out. Are you spying on me or are there like, thousands of nerds like me out there with the same exact outfit?
It’s very much a modern rabbit hole. You start watching rose anvil, you get some nice boots, you get some selvedge denim, you start transforming your wardrobe into 100% cotton vintage workwear.
I have not heard Camber mentioned in years. I sold them next to Carhartt for 15 years. They use to make a USA made heavyweight thermal lined hoodie. The zip-up version got me through a few years of winters at PSU Main. Then I lost it in a move. RIP great hoodie.
Yeah, he took their lightest weight sweatshirt (12oz) for the video, but it also has the highest cotton percentage of their blends (90/10). They have a chill buster 14 oz and an arctic thermal 19oz that are both 50/50 cotton poly blend. They have their industrial stuff as well, 20oz or 24oz 90/10 blends or one 100% cotton jacket. They are all still made in their worn down factory outside of Philly.
@@doubledubs5644 I think the arctic thermal was the one I had years ago. I sold so many of those back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Damn good hoodies. Wish mine didn’t walk off. I’m sure it would look rough by now, bust it would still be functional.
I find vintage Russell (made in USA) excels in the fit. I size up to an XXL in their crewneck, and I get the most perfect baggy arms, but still a tight cuff on the neck and arms. A 50/50 cotton/poly is not great on paper, but I cannot deny it is one of my favourite crewnecks to wear.
The made in USA Russell sweaters are amazing! I actually have found 3 at the thrift store recently, M, XL, and XXL. The fit is great, sort of cropped compared to modern sweaters. Two of the ones I found are actually 95% cotton 5% polyester. The material is thicker and feels so much nicer than newer ones.
Been a fan of American Giant for years. Got their hoodies, t-shirts, denims, shorts, pants, socks… very happy with the quality! Another hoodie brand I recommend is Flint & Tinder 10-year hoodie. Really really good. I’m based in the UK and these products are not cheap to get here unfortunately. Cheers
American Giant is running a huge shipping scam. I called them out and they didn’t address it. Tons of reviews on them even on BBB. I will not support that brand anymore.
Fantastic video, Mikey. Yes, please do a part 2. Btw love my American Giant hoodie, and it has reinforced elbows.... like you said it's a little overkill but fantastic.
Hey Michael, I saw LA Apparel in your list at 0:34. Sad they didn't make it on there! I've been collecting their hoodies and crewnecks on their depop page for all under $10 the past couple months. Quality and fit are both great and I have a couple of their double layer ones and they might be the best hoodies I've ever owned.
Once bought a GAT Sneaker from them. Thought it would be great, as they also sell vintage ones under their vintage shop line, but I was extremely disappointed. The shape was terrible, quality control had major issues and the material was worse then adidas. I really wanted to like them, but after wearing them for a few months, they ended up being the worst quality and comfort sneakers I've ever had, even Reebok club C were miles Infront of them. A shame, really, but maybe it was only with this product
Hey Michael! I personally am a huge fan of vintage Russell, and that's partly because they made all of L.L. Bean's sweats way back in the day. Most of them came with a really cool Russell x L.L. Bean collab label. Love this video, and of course would really like to see a second one. If you are interested, I would be very happy to lend you an excellent Bean vintage sweatshirt if you would like to review it! Also, so very excited for the mammoth jacket v2.0! It will be perfect for a New England winter! Keep it up!!
Love your videos as always! You crunched countless hours of research into a concise 20min vid. Thought Brut and American Giant would score higher based on your explanation and was hoping B.Rickson would get more screen time. Excited for part 2!
Big fan of the American Giant sweatshirts. If you ever do a sweatshorts video, I really like the ones AG makes. Heavy compared to most other brands but still comfortable in the summer. Just wish they had the single back pocket that Uniqlo puts on their shorts.
Great comment about the neck on the Camber. Very true and I don’t even have a thick neck. I have two of their hoodies and I had to take them both to a tailor to have her put a V in the neck so they weren’t constantly choking me.
You’ve got to review Todd Synder x Champion sweatshirts. They basically brought back nice equality hoodies. They have a cult-like following, and for good reason.
My favorite sweatshirt is a black turtleneck TS x Champion sweatshirt. Perfect weight, super comfortable, loose enough turtleneck to not feel restrictive but not so loose it looks weird and it still blocks the wind. $35 on poshmark, some of the best money I've ever spent
Do you have one? How is the fit? I have the regular classic full zip from AG and I wish I had returned it, it's much too long and slim. The fit feels like a relic from the early 2010's.
Loved this one. Whitesville and Rickson going on the wishlist! You're killin it with the graphics and presentation, been really sick watching your style evolve.
Hi Michael, A few things: 1. Great video! 2. Do not buy vintage by tagged size, always buy vintage by measurements. You did not get duped you got the wrong size. 3.Other excellent brand LWC & KellSport. 4. I am the Active & Knitwear Buyer at Huckberry, would love to hear your thoughts on our new Midweight Terry Sweatshirts. Let me know if you are interested.
I’m not sure if they still exist, but I bought a champion x Todd synder hoodie a million years ago and it’s still the best hoodie I’ve ever owned. I’ve washed it a ton and she has held up exceptionally well.
I’ve had a chase crewneck for years and it’s still in great nick, superb quality. I will say, Cole Buxton or even Represent blank sweatshirts blow them out the water.
My best sweatshirt is a Levis one weirdly that I bought 7-8 years ago. 100% cotton, one of my most worn items but still going strong. Absolutely love it. Can't help but fear that the quality on the newer ones is probably not the same as it was sadly when the time comes to replace it.
Thanks for the awesome videos, Mike! I'm a bit of a sweatshirt nerd, and some of my favorites are Birdwell, Todd Snyder/Champion collabs and a few Outerknown. Cheers!
I own the American giant hoodie and the flint and tinder (huckberry) hoodie. Both are really great. I’m sure there’s probably nicer out there, but it’s minuscule amount for the price jump. Champion is decent for the price but as they are now a mall brand, it’s only a matter of time before their stuff is going to go down in quality, while going up in price.
I want to shout out the in-house brand of Roopa Knitting Mills in Toronto, House of Blanks. I've noticed several different companies use their hoodies including Tellason, Todd Snyder, Muttonhead, 3sixteenand allegedly Aime Leon Dore and Supreme. From what I can tell any hoodie made in Toronto is likely them. I have both their crewnecks and hoodies and they're great, especially if you can get them on sale (I got mine on sale from a small Canadian streetwear store called Swagger Like Me).
It's a real shame this video didn't include HoB or UniformLA, those are the two brands I actually hear recommended and endorsed most frequently in these circles.
I have a handful of vintage russell sweatshirts/hoodies and at least the 90s/early 2000s ones don't have pilling issues. Russell is also known for a great boxy fit! My guess is you got a 70s russell hoodie and I can't speak for the quality on those
Been wearing American giant for years. They are the best. They hold up great over time and they are warm. This should be a criteria though tricky to measure
I have this one loopwheel crew neck from N&F, and the bottom stretched out, and I tried everything, it wont go back. It was my favorite one, too. The other 2 are great and bounce back, and the new ones are flat seams on the sides and sleeves, so they're incredibly nice. I'll have to get a new charcoal one, though...
Camber is great. They're the brand my construction company provides. The only problem I have with it is that the hood is kind of small/short and pulls down on my head when I wear it which is irritating
I was looking for this comment. I've owned several made in USA Reverse Weaves and the quality is great but the fit just is not right for me. The high cotton/pro cotton sweatshirts have the better fit that the lower quality 50/50 Russell has, with the better materials of the champion Reverse Weaves.
I have some vintage (original owner) Champion reverse weave made in the USA NYC 100% cotton Men’s Large never seen the dryer that I can let you borrow one for a video. Oh, and yes the Vintage Russell pill like crazy I may have one of those but so rough.
I love my American Giant hoodie but some it seems like they cater to the more "modern" slim and long look. I much prefer a blocky more cropped top on my short 5'8" body
velour garments make great hoodies/sweatshirts, they run a bit big though but their 450gsm hoodie is a personal favourite apart from the hood as it doesn't have a stitch around the edge
I'm am based out of India and these videos are great - unfortunately there's only Uniqlo out of all the brands that are officially available in my country but Uniqlo is still pretty great here.
Would you consider doing a video on cotton bed sheets? It seems like sheets have fallen victim to the same cost-cutting and worse materials as clothing, but there have to be some good brands out there still that offer comfortable and long-lasting products (I've heard good things about Red Land Cotton).
I love my American Giant zip hoodies. They're kinda almost jackets. So good. I can't afford the other things I guess I should wear with it lol. I just have cheapish selvedge jeans and Thursday boots. lol
funny you make this video after i bought a few sweatshirts for the winter. I do hope that one day you may cover European brands like WATC Studio and Velour Garments. IMO they're very good value for money
No flint and tinder 10 year? That and the American giant are the two most popular heavyweight hoodies. I have both and they both have very distinct and functional roles in my wardrobe.
I have the rain defender zip up and it’s great my only complaint is it fades WAY too easy. Got it in black now it’s like a grey color and only had for a year
i didn't like reigning champ for their stitching but i respected them for being made in canada. BUT NOW, they moved all their production to oversea and still charge the same price... there's no point to buy them now
Person who has been doing sweatshirts for 35 yrs and put 10's of millions on peoples backs. Good luck finding a heather color you like in pure cotton. You would have to fibre dye it in a blowroom - this is pretty common in flat knit sweaters - but tends to look way better in wools than cottons there too - and hitting the right tones is tough. In circular knit on a heather, you are going to want 10-30% polyester or nylon for the depth it adds, as the polyester/nylon thread take on less color in the same time and temperature as a pure cotton thread would, so the mixed yarn will have that irregular and natural looking heathering in a way that you otherwise will likely not reach. Also - if you are brushing the back (inside) more heavily, that synthetic will make it much softer and more voluminous to start - but will lead to more pilling on the inside. The pure cotton will likely shed more if brushed on the loop. I have not seen the Abercrombie sweat - but the softness would be a mix of carbon brushing the face fabric lightly and probably washing no more than one time. The polyester will give more stability of fabric in both of these processes - and if the wash is longer - it may also be to avoid twisting and irregular shrinkage in the wash process. Excellent video as always
Hey Michael, any chance you’ll be able to review some good brown leather jackets for the fall season? Yes specifically brown because brown is a classic fall color. Also it’ll look good with jeans or khakis, and some color of shirts like white and black and navy blue
4:33 many times, like with the N&F circular knit tees to get the heathered look they use 10%polyester. Not always. The Wonder Looper one is 100% cotton, but also ⅓the price, but half the weight, so there's always something. I can't wait to get my denim!!!!! The jeans and especially the new prologue. I needed a midweight denim jacket. I have a Levi's Mexican type 1 and 22oz big slub UB type 3... nothing in between... til i get the 15oz. I have a feeling ots gonna become my new go to jacket. #noPresoak

I'll have to look out for vintage Champion hoodies now.
Inis Meáin needs to be on this list. Unparalleled quality 👌
velour garments make great hoodies/sweatshirts, they run a bit big though but their 450gsm hoodie is a personal favourite apart from the hood as it doesn't have a stitch around the edge
bro vintage tommy knit sweaters are great
not sure if you have ever given Lady White's Superweighted Hoodie a try but its one of the best I've owned
I'm am based out of India and these videos are great - unfortunately there's only Uniqlo out of all the brands that are officially available in my country but Uniqlo is still pretty great here.
I feel blessed to have been able to squeeze in a made in Canada hoodie from RC before they switched production to Vietnam
Would you consider doing a video on cotton bed sheets? It seems like sheets have fallen victim to the same cost-cutting and worse materials as clothing, but there have to be some good brands out there still that offer comfortable and long-lasting products (I've heard good things about Red Land Cotton).
This man is about to replace Bazad at N&F. Calling it now.
I love my American Giant zip hoodies. They're kinda almost jackets. So good. I can't afford the other things I guess I should wear with it lol. I just have cheapish selvedge jeans and Thursday boots. lol
Yes!!!! Sweatpant season!!!!! Let the coziness begin!
Is it weird that I watched this video to unwind from a stressful day.
I have a camber zip up i got on ebay for $30, its such a quality hoodie
Take a look at Lands End Serious Sweats. Hands down one of my favorite crewnecks
Brave Star Sumo or Glory Days hoodies. Don't sleep. Affordable, thick, comfy.
Love this video!! Please do a part two!!
YO MISTER SNAIL, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND I WATCH THEM ALL!
funny you make this video after i bought a few sweatshirts for the winter. I do hope that one day you may cover European brands like WATC Studio and Velour Garments. IMO they're very good value for money
i would love to see more vintage russell i have a sweatshirt from 1987 that is still comfy
they size very small overall so go bigger
No flint and tinder 10 year? That and the American giant are the two most popular heavyweight hoodies. I have both and they both have very distinct and functional roles in my wardrobe.
I want a crew neck sweatshirt with a kangaroo pocket. I’ve found exactly one. I’d like more than one.
Breh wheres my button down casual shirt video???😭
Grats on the engagement...🎉, i hope...
Great video. Real question is what is that watch? It looks great,
In time for the fall weather!
Once you go wonder looper you can't go back... Though the Buzz Rickson is also amazing.
I got the abercrombie one on discount. It’s my favorite
No carhartt? Lol what?? Nothing better than the classic Carhartt hoodie.
Awesome video but please consider adding timestamps for a video with this many brands
American Giant gives me "Celebrity on a coffee run in shades and baseball cap, dodging paparazzi" vibes
#noPresoak
if u do a part 2 id be interested to see los angeles apparel bc ik a lot of companies end up using that as their hoodie blanks!
Why haven't I subscribed to this channel yet! Your videos are the best on this site!
To be fair the cuffs on the sleeve on the Reigning Champ also looked very bacon-y. I'm not sure this is a one-off issues.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on House of Blanks as well
