Thank you so much for sharing this useful chart and excellent information - it's very useful during this temporary crisis
Thank you for sharing your videos, they are really helping me to understand how to use colours, understand the numbers and the base colours. I did my NVQ 2 in hairdressing about 6 years ago but never understood the colouring side of things, am now considering taking hairdressing back up again, thank you 👍🏻
This video was so helpful for me! i've been dyeing my hair for 3-4 years now (i'm 17) , and never really understood developers. Much less what my base color really was, which i believe it's somewhere close to a 5, maybe a 6. I used 20vol, for the longest time and could never get my desired shade. But knowing the percentage of peroxide in each developer now, is a huge help. I do want to go into cosmetology as well, i've watched just two of your videos so far and they've been great help. :)
This was incredibly helpful. I’ve been lucky (yet wrong) for many, many, many years!
This was helpful, thank you.
great video. easy to understand. thank you for upload.
Thank you so much! This will prevent me from a disaster. Lol!
Well explained.
This is excellent. Thank you so so much.
Wonder why loreal no system the 3 n 7 is opposite from the color wheel and 5 and 6 too
May I seek some advice please? I've been using INOA (getting done in a salon) 6 mixed with 6.34, using a 20% developer. I just tired using the 6.34 on its own (because I couldn't get the 6 (base colour that the hairdresser mixed it with) and it hasn't covered the grey re-growth. What did I do wrong? Should I have used a different developer?
Fiona Loxley 6 is the main colour that covers grey. So without this you may not cover the grey totally. You have to buy 6 and mix it with 6.34 50/50 to get the result required. 20 developer is perfect.
@@longalion Huge thanks. So very grateful.
Thank you so much!!!!
You’re welcome!
Great video! Thanks!!
Do you have a video on how to formulate? I am a student and I don’t get it. Also what if the customer has previously colored hair, what level do you check? The natura at the root or the artificial color to be worked on?
I have another video on pre pig which will help you with virgin or artificial coloured hair. Obviously, it’s harder dealing with both at the same time but that comes with experience. Sometimes you lighten the roots and darken the ends to get the same result. Good luck
@@longalion thank you so much! I graduated beauty school but I am literally teaching myself. I’m also studying for the board. I appreciate the content you put out. Thank you
Dear Lorna I am not a professional hair dresser and I didn't quite understand the part starting from 5.56 ... if a she is a natural 6 and wants to do babylights in her hair with tint she can use marjirel 8.2 with 20% without bleach the babylights prior?
Verena Müller yes, natural or virgin hair lightens using tint. A level 6 lifting to an 8.2 with 6% 1:1 is fine. Just note that the colour as baby lights will be very natural and sun kissed. Perfect for first time colour to experiment.
@@longalion Dear Lorna, thank you! I am a natural 4 and have a few more questions regarding hair... How can I get in touch with you? Your videos are awesome ♥
@@longalion Dear Lorna I am a natural 4, 5 isch. I had Babylights done. The hair dresser (trained) bleached it with 1.5% and put on a sand looking tint. It tured out bad.
What if someone has a 4, 5 isch virgin hair and wants to have baby lights... For my understanding she should have worked at least with a 6% developer or even a 9 % and bleach. What do you think?
Thank you!!
Is it ok to use a 30vol developer at the roots ? Amazon mixed my delivery and I've to cover up the roots to go for a wedding in two days. 😣
Mary Christy M 30 vol will lighten 2-3 shades. If you want 20vol simply add water to the mixture to dilute the strength and make it weaker. For roots you normally need 30g colour and 30g peroxide. So if you have 30 vol then mix 20g peroxide and 10g water, this will make 20 vol.
@@longalion Awww...Thank you so much ! This really helps 😍
Can you please make a video on reds burgundy colors only
If I want to put a little of blue to help with the orange tone that I tend to get. How much should I squeeze? Thank you
Alma May that is trial and error. I would start with one inch and mix the two colours together before adding the peroxide. Blue is a cool colour which could make the chosen shade appear darker. If it is too dark, go lighter by 1 shade, add blue 1 inch and see how that is.
My daughter is naturally quite a dark red colour probably a 6 to 7 base and hates it. The red is very strong and take a lot to get rid of. We have been bleaching then colouring her hair ash blonde magirel but the damage isn’t great. She likes being blonde can we try something else ?
amanda hill you could try tinting the hair but as she’s had bleach already nothing will lift better than that. Any tint you use needs to contain green to neutralise the red as you lighten and stick to a low level of lift. Sometimes a full head of highlights using bleach and then in between the packets on the scalp you can lighten using tint. 9.1 with an inch of green pure mix tone mixed with 6% 1:1 will look nice and be kinder to the hair.
amanda hill also just realised your using a permanent tint on top of bleach. You need to use a quasi colour/ Demi permanent instead of an permanent colour. The colour molecules are different and give the hair the best shine on top of bleach.
In Majirel color chart what is the equivalent to Loreal Preference 74 (Intense Mango Copper)? I'm naturaly 6.1 so usually I don't have a problem to take almost the same color like in catalog. Thank you in advance.
I have a question if i have a 4 or 3 color (not too sure, they tell me my hair is lighter then they expected) can I use highlift colors?
I ordered off of sallys 30 peroxide (9%) and got the highlift color in cool blond ( HL/V-12.2) would it give me a 9 ash blond level or turn me orange? If so can a toner or demi permanent with blue, help to tone it down?
Muñeca M you can use the high lift colour, however your result will be a orange colour of a base 8. It will never lift to the desired colour unless you were a base 7. The best bet you may have is to mix an inch of blue pure mix colour into the highlift tint which is mixed 2:1 with a 9%, it could come out a nice caramel colour. Also you need virgin hair for this to work as it won't lighten artificial colours at all.
If you mix blue additive will you deepen the color and change the lightening ability or change the tint/developer ratio?
Lisa The Beautician yes mixing the blue will darken the colour, but you don't need too much, maybe an inch or two, mix it with the chosen colour. The main thing is killing the orange tones and this cannot be done without the blue. Mixing ratio will be the same once blue is added. I weigh my colours so if adding an inch is another 3 grams, I will add 3 grams of peroxide.
Lisa The Beautician yes you are correct it will darken slightly, but I would prefer that to orange tones. Mix the same as usual adding a little more peroxide to match the tint. Only 1 to 2 inches is needed of blue, mix with colour before adding peroxide.
Can u mix 5,0 and 5,8 to make a nice chocolate brown or is it 5 and 5,8 x
Cloe Byrne both would work. 5.0 covers resistant grey and therefore may be a bit darker. Both with 6%.
I have a salon , I need a color chart where can I get
Sunitha Vijay if you buy colour from a wholesaler this will sell the chart or eBay may have them.
COLOUR THEORY AND
USING COLOUR CHARTS
Hi, thank you so much, one question please if we are dark brow like 3 or 4 and choose to be lighter to 2 higher be like 6 , do we have to use 30 proxide?
F A technically yes, however you may find using 6 would do a similar job with less orange undertones. Sometimes if you light too much it just goes orange. Make sure if you lift with 9, that the colour is very ashy like a 611, 6/1, 6A.
After 70 which colour is the best.
Elena Lajhner 70 years of age? As close to your natural roots as possible. So blonde for grey hair whether it be in the form of highlights or all over. I can’t see your natural so ask your stylist
So strange the way you repeat almost every point twice ...
