No small planes, Bushcraft Bear! They have too many problems and have a lousy safety reputation. Avoid them like the plague. Use drones instead,and they shoot better pictures than being in a plane anyway !

About two weeks ago, I was sitting in one of the bars in Tazacorte and the Red Cross (Cruz Roja) were giving safety glasses and FFP2 masks out. Another example of how well the Emergency Services here have responded to this disaster. Outstanding job guys!

I have an FFP3 mask, which is one step up from the one recommended.
I'm especially interested in their plans if F2 and F3 get closed above Los Llanos. It looks like the only way over to Santa Cruz would be over el Time ridge, all the way around the northern island.
I have so many questions.

Hallo from Snohomish in Washington State. Take some of the ash and have it tested for mineral content. Ash from Mount St Helens here in Washington was discovered to have the right minerals to be made into lovely green gems called Helenite.

When I was on the islands a long time ago, in the 80s, there were peridot crystal gems everywhere

The ash is also used in glass blowing to make amazing colors pink green, blue and more. Wiley wear makes amazing glasses with it.

Just as you cautioned others to wear the proper safety equipment, so should you. When you demonstrated the use of the respirator, your voice was still clear. Don't be afraid to wear it. Also, be sure to protect your camera. You showed us how fine the ash is. Don't let that fine ash destroy your equipment. As long as the volcano lasts, we continue to look forward to your reports, so please take care of yourself and your equipment. Thank you once again for your excellent reporting.

Ben, I have a request: Could you put a few inches of ash in a bucket, add a bit of water, stir it up to make a thick paste, and then let it dry? A lot of people say that rain will turn the ash to concrete. I don't think that's the case. Maybe you could conduct a little experiment? Thanks!

Hello my Hungarian friend!!!!!! I told you my Dad is Hungarian he came to America when he was 15. He is 81 now and his accent is strong as ever!!!! Lol. He lost his Oldest brother in the war and lost his Father when he was 5. He grew up in what was Yugloslavia and when he lost his Father he and his Mother and his 9 brothers and sisters had to go to live in a camp in Austria. When he was 15 they immigrated to America a few at a time on the Bottom of a big ship!! Times were different then that is for sure. He raise me and my brother and sister to be kind to others to work hard for what you want and appreciate what you have! If you don't cover your camera the ash may get into the grooves & start messing it up. A good plastic to put around it & keep the lens , microphone uncoved while you do the videos will help. Thank you & God bless

But yes, things are surely done different there. I remember the streetsweeper people would be cleaning the streets with brooms of bundled twigs.
@@johndicus123 brooms of bundled twigs are awesome to clean the streets and they are used in many parts of the world still due to that reason from Indonesia to east europe, it is much better than the leaf vacuum systems and trucks with brushes that do nothing but extreme noise and dust! maybe the government of Spain does not think that people should live near a volcano? maybe???just maybe...:)

What a mess! Reminds me of stories of the American Dust Bowl in the 1900's. Stories of dust permeating every crack in every home, hoping and praying that it would end "tomorrow". Sadly, it took many years to reclaim our precious soil ("Breadbasket of the US" as we call it). Bless everyone who must clean that ash every day in order to keep their businesses open or simply their homes clean, with clean air for their families. Stay "dusted", Bear! 3:25 ...I used to wear a rig like that, 8 hours a day when I was drilling at my little mining operation, the trick is to always breathe thru your nose which prevents the build-up of condensation inside the mask..after a while, you will notice your lung power get stronger....carbon cannisters are pretty good removing petroleum exhaust gas smell and SO2....

After the eruption of Mt St Helens in Oregon, my sister drove down from Wa state to California. She collected ash from the volcano and it was very fine and powdery. During her trip through the affected areas she had to stop every 3 miles and bang out her air filter because the particles would clog the filters and get into the engines killing the cars. She said there were cars lining the roads all the way through Wa and most of Oregon. The ash was very fine, but also very abrasive like ground glass. people used it in resin and glass blowing projects. Not sure if the ash there us the same. St Helens was from a Pyroclastic blast...

I was 10. Dad drove us up past couger right after it happened. Picnic tables way up high stuck in the trees. Silence it was so quiet.

Think of the pre-explosion earthquakes, yes it had begun but we were heading to eruption, then peak, then plateau, then massive effusive phase, explosive phase, gassing phase, ashy phase, cone collapse phase.
