Welcome to Day 8 of Techmas!
In Smash Ultimate, if you fast fall and then do an aerial you'll go back into your slow fall. If you're holding down and flick the cstick you'll fast fall after the cstick is pressed, I call with Auto Fast Falling. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate we can get around the issue of slow falling with Double fast falling to get the fastest movement possible!

UH OH BACK TO THE LAB AGAIN!
#SuperSmashBros #SmashUltimate #Ultimate - Игры
i double fast fall all the time with my gsp
xD
Fr 1 loss = -2000000 Gsp
Same.
What's your gsp?
My highest is G&M at 13.8M
It feels like Ultimate is finally getting the mechanical deep dives that Smash 4 had with MSC and early Beefy Smash. Ultimate tech has always been so focused on looking for something new that just optimizing the basics has always flown under the radar. Love to see it.
bro i love ur channel. and the risitas guy being a falcon dev is SOOO FUNNY
@@zachstarattack7320 Yoooooo I appreciate it!
How is fracturefalcon doing?
I think a lot of it was that it felt pointless to look for stuff that could just be patched out
@@ellachino4799underrated true comment
Funny. I've been doing this with Pac-Man and Roy forward airs and never considered me fast falling twice.
already labbing this and hitting a perfect ridley bair out of rars and slingshots feels so satisfying, thank you gimr for the very nice tech
Gimr is right that I've known about this for a while, but haven't really been smart enough to optimize it properly. This video is amazing
As a Shiek main, AFF/DFF has been a staple in my gameplay without realizing it on the DFF part. Thanks for the Techsplanation.
I did not know auto fast-falling was a thing - I thought you just always had to delay your fast fall input until after you threw out an attack. Thanks for the tech!
As soon as i tried this is training mode, i realized I've been doing this the whole time! Not with every aerial, but at least with fullhop, if I'm trying to quickly space an aerial near the ground, I've already been fastfalling, holding down, then just inputing the aerial without letting go of down. Something nice about this tech is, it wont kill your hands and it feels pretty intuitive!
I didn’t know you could jump hold down then use the c stick and the fast fall would come out automatically this a game changer for me.
This makes everything so much better for swordies. I need to practice this ASAP.
You are the best for using Marth in the thumbnail. Thank you for all of the time you put into this.
I was already experimenting some auto fast fall up air on short platforms in battlefield to get that outrageous tipper up air and immediate cancel to react... Sounds crazy for swords.
The auto fastfall itself is so useful for me, since it can get exhausting quickly just by flicking down the left stick just to fastfall on neutral, using the normal method.
love you Gimr!! fun Christmas stuffs yayy
I love all of your videos Professor Gimr!
Thank-you for these videos. I am no where near a pro player, nor do I go to tournaments but I do enjoy playing this game and I like learning new tech that will help me get better so I appreciate how you break it down and make it simple for me to understand 👍
I honestly didnt know about the auto fastfall until you showed me this. very cool
Never thought I'd be able to fastfall twice in one jump. Still not EXACTLY sure what this means for my main (Yink), but seems like it'd be really good for him considering first hit aerials into more aerials is a thing
I love yink
Our Nair's are gonna be more oppressive lol
@@kevinaguirre9306this doesn’t work with nair since you need to input the aerial with c stick.
Never seen it written as Yink. But now that I have I'd like to propose Yoink.
@@kevinaguirre9306he literally said it doesn’t work with nair
this is 100% how i approach from above with Link's falling B-air into grounded up-B, up-tilt, u-smash, or another B-air even
Doesn’t look like Sora could make a lot of use out of this, but I think Marth/Lucina and Corrin would eat this up.
Rubs hands with malicious intent
Yeah I do this all the time. Also it's important to fastfall cancel (fast fall, then aerial to cancel the fast fall) when edgeguarding, particularly with drop zone f-air. You'll be able to go deeper with the f-air without SDing, very handy
Marth's spacing just got leagues better 😭
i wonder if this works with Steve, given that he has a short jump
It's also added to the pile of things that majorly improve Mewtwo but literally nobody is pushing that character meta.
Very useful with Wolf's fair! I've been hitting perfect landing fairs more often.
i remember learning about this in smash 4
glad it's getting light now
I didn't know about this, thanks for the tip!
Dedede having the slowest moves but one of the fastest fast falls is so sad. Multi jump empty hop mixups bouta go crazy tho
Thank you for mentioning this gimr, aerial always resets your fastfall so you can fastfall again to get even closer to the ground
Not double fastfalling will leave your ass midair longer
Incineroar landing dair is laggy as hell if you don't double fastfall
(This "tech" should be called the "Cosmos")
The Cosmos is crazy😭
I thought incin dair is better when auto cancelled
@@TFWPLSSUB
Why would the dair need to be autocancelled
The only way to autocancel dair is double jump dair fastfall
Fair can autocancel the same way
Double jump aerials let's you do a second aerial before landing
Thank you for the subtitles 🇫🇷🥖
Dude this has gotta be really good for mii brawler
Can’t wait to use this for ganondorf
Great info!
Dude this is going to be crazy with ninja characters like Lucario and Greninja
I hope its c-stick fastfall tech that has been gatekept by 2 players
c-stick fastfall has been known
What crabby just said, I main Corrin and I already use this quite often, more so I use c sick most of the times for my aerials besides fair -> bair and down tilt -> up air
@@TheKillingBatHow do you auto fast fall with Nair?
@@nathancasey7712 I wouldn't call it auto, but i would nair double down + hold my control stick
Correction: I would Hop then nair then hold down, but you could just control stick down once and do it again quickly then nair if you are high up. I usually double down my control stick for fast falling though and aerials besides nair i could use my c-stick.
Ive always done this. I didnt know you could auto-fast fall at all, Ive only ever timed the double fast fall lol
wowwwww i swear i knew about this and had a whole ass conspiracy theory
Me, a Ridley main with my slow af aerials: *Fascinating.*
im testing it with ridley rn and he REALLY benefits from this, you can pretty much get a pefect sh back air when you hold the stick down at a diagonal direction AND double fastfall lets us mix up in disadvantage especially since we have 2 double jumps so an an example when near the top blastzone you can: fastfall, cancel with double jump nair, jump again then use the double fast fall tech with either fair, bair or uair
@@tekwizwa Oh! That is actually incredibly useful to know! I will definitely have to lab this at some point and really get it down, thank you for telling!
Roy main here, I only use that second fast fall you're refering to. Exemple, for a short up Fair I use the C stick THEN I fast fall. That way after attacking while in the air you will always fast fall. Also the main benefits is that you can also delay the moment your attack comes out so you have more control over your spacing and avoid shield grabs. That tech really only applies if an attack comes out fast enough and the specific character's weight
This I sort of knew and thought it was explored when everyone was showing off that early combo with Terry [FF UpAir > Rising Dair > Falling Nair > Ftilt/UTilt > Etc.]
But it is true a lot of people didn't use this a lot for spacing their safer aeriels when retreating (Remember when people clowned shulks for retreating fair and then noone would do safe aeriels)
It was about this long into Melee's lifespan that many foundational tech skills started to come forward like this. Maybe Ultimate's meta isn't "solved" just yet? We'll see how this tech does vs the Steve/Sonic/G&W hydra of the current meta. Hopefully some low-bottom or low-mid tiers really put this together and surge to the top.
I'll come back here in 1 year to see what I think about all of this.
This mechanic is also useful simply to fast fall as soon as possible for aerials you want to input BEFORE even reaching the summit of your jump.
For example, you might want to use joker up air before reaching the summit of your jump. You want to fast fall as early as possible to complete a drag down.
After inputting up air, instead of attempting to input fast fall exactly at the summit during the 4 frames of buffer for fastfall, you can try inputting fast fall with the control stick a bit earlier than you would normally, then immediately afterwards input any direction (except for down) with the c-stick, all while holding down that control stick.
This way, if the fast fall input with the control stick is a bit too early, the (non-down) directional input from the c-stick will override the down direction from the control stick. Try flicking the c-stick as fast as possible so that this override lasts less long than 4 frames. Once this override ends, the game will see the down direction from the control stick again since during this time you're still holding down. If done right, this event would happen during the 4 frames of fast fall buffer. You will get a perfect fast fall, instead of just not fastfalling at all from trying to fastfall to early.
Also, if the fast fall input with the control stick is done during the buffer instead of before, you'll just fastfall perfectly as soon as possible like you would without this technique, and the directional input from the c-stick won't change anything.
This theoretically make leffoble have a larger window to fastfall, instead of just having having the 4 frame fast fall buffer window for every up air. Dunno if everyone knew this but this vid made me think of this.
anyone else already been doing this? i didnt even know about auto fast falling lol, but i've always been double fast falling
Same lol I tried to figure out all of puffs jumps off of feeling
so i guess this wouldn't actually work as Daisy but you can do the float cancel fast fall nair or bair which is super fast
I used to dff my aerials without knowing and was always confused why my slow aerial attacks cancels before I hit the ground
My LMAC COMBOS ABOUT TO BE CRAZY WITH THIS ONE 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥
🤣
As a meleehead this was the first one from techmas to peak my interest
same, it's more interesting than. falling off the ledge with an aerial lmao
It happens me a lot (accidentally) I fast fall while doing Ganon's up air and die without knowing it was a c stick tech
Thanks, Santa 🎅🏻
I actually had no idea you could buffer a fast fall like this. I’ve been trying to time fast fall fairs/Bairs like a damn caveman this whole time? Haha
🔥🔥
I wonder how this affects gameplay for multi-jumpers like my main, Pit. Probably not so applicable because of our pretty much universally small jump heights... Can't wait for some new tech to come out that helps multi-jumpers (plssss @GimR pls)
Might work well with a short hop back air, or even full hop back air.
I don't know if anyone else has had this happen to them, but has anyone else yeeted themselves off stage because their fast fall went like double speed? I just wondered if a similar input to this could be making that happen, as I'm having a hard time replicating it. I've legit thrown an aerial as Pit as I'm chasing someone off stage and hit the bottom blast zone right as my aerial finishes.
Rarely with K. Rool and PPlant
Man, I need to catch up to this! And this game is still getting new tech?
Back to the lab again
Another day another lab!
Does this work with mewtwo's nair while using the second jump?
I feel i've been doing this for a while to ff cancel my dj with nair at the earliest possible frame but i've been struggling to get it 100% consistently.
Also i dont understand the explained inputs. It looks like auto ff but just release inputs earlier?
Also i thought all top players did dbl ff ( ff>aerial>ff) 'cause otherwise you either ff into aerial which cancels the ff or attack first then ff but you lose times with the attack.
Honnestly this left me confused and underwhelmed more than anything.
Why do this when get up attack is in the game already?
It's been quite a lot of times where I fastfall in the middle of hit stop frames and the input gets eaten, delaying and making 2 piece combos not true, fastfalling before the aerial even comes out could help though! Will definitely lab
Given Byleth, I feel like MKLeo has known how to do this, but just did not know it was a mechanic, he just knew
I miss cool tech like wave dashing and moon walking. L-cancelling, for how annoying it was, was still great
I’ve only ever done this. I’ve never done a normal fast fall attack in my life. No wonder slower moves always fail me.
I've actually been doing this with Joker to get well-spaced bairs and fair 1s for a good while now. I thought it was just a neat way of buffering a fastfall. I never even noticed that the fastfall spark occurred twice when doing this until now.
Really thought top players have been rolling this forever
unfortunately as a falcon main this is kind of useless since I'd want to do this with nair, but it miiiiight do something for bair, maybe.
No wonder when I fair offstage I fucking plummet to my doom hella fast sometimes!!! Lol
Lmfao. It always feels so horrid when it happens too 😅
I don’t understand how this is new. How is it different than fast falling with an aerial inputted with the c-stick? Will have to go back to the lab again to get it I guess!
It's not different because that's what it is, you've probably already been doing it once you learned how to ff aerial, this vid just explains how fast falling interacts with the c-stick a bit better
@@igirjei3717 ah
Wouldve been nice to talk about how this auto fastfall can be used in platdrop. Personally for ganon there are situations where I gotta slowfall, but also situations where I should fastfall through platform in order to hit even grounded opponents
It may also be something people know, but once talking about autofastfall and explaining how its known, but would benefit from going a bit more i ndepth, that would also be good to mention
Does a C-Stick uair do the fast fall as well? The only examples shown were fairs so I'm a little confused, but if uair does it, it explains something I've noticed in the training room but thought was purely timing.
yes
light fox use this tech a lot
I still don't undertand the difference between auto fast falling and the double fast falling, but i will look again 😂
Can you do this with the pro controller and if so what is the button layout to do auto fast falling? My right stick is set at smash attack
it should still work!
New john:
"If only I double fast falled my aerials :("
I'm still very confused about the difference between auto fast-fall and double fast falling. Is auto fast-fall when you start with the movement stick down and double fast falling is when you start with the movement stick neutral?
Auto fast fall is automatically fastfalling from a hop or jump. By holding down on the analog stick before the arc of your jump, at any time when you fair/uair/bair with the c stick you will automatically fastfall.
Double fastfall is when you are airborne and fastfalling already, you can hold down on the analog stick and fair/uair/bair and after 3 frames of the move coming out, you will automatically fastfall again. You can call this version autofastfall aswell, but since you are technically fastfalling twice in one jump, he named it double fastfall.
And then there's me, who didn't even know you could buffer fast fall
What’s the ideal way to hold a GC controller? If you’re jumping with X/Y what finger is supposed to be on the c stick?
You can do a few different things:
• Quickly move your thumb from X/Y to the c stick
• Quickly move your thumb from X/Y to the A button to input your aerials
• Use claw grip. Just a heads up, it’s going to be *very* uncomfortable if you’re not used to it. I personally use claw in nearly every game I play however
1:45 I would be so tilted fighting this
Just started playing ultimate and honestly my biggest problem is spacing 😅
How exactly does one do C-Stick aerials while short hopping? Is this a claw grip technique? I always do my shorthop aerials by pressing jump and then the attack button directly after
I put jump on my left trigger.
Some people use stick jump, others use claw grip.
Find what works best for you.
Not sure if the tech requires specific the c stick to override the input buffer, but I used to piano y to a while holding left or right into down left or right. If it does work you may be able to do it that way.
I played lucina so since her fair has such a long total duration, its tough to tell if I was doing it properly.
I'm a little confused if it's too obvious. Is the DFF simply a flick version of AFF??
can this be done with Snakes Fair?
Pac-Man a lil too happy about this tech 1:46
Can we see how underrated characters like pirhana plant use these techs to their advantage. It would be cool if these awkward characters would have some spotlight and it would also point more to the fact that these techs are universal as they work on the worse characters
Ahora usa el sling shot ahí
Joker mains eating good
My character doesn’t have a fast fall unfortunately 😢
But she does now!
How do i do this with switch lite controls?
:O
I've been accidentally doing this for like a year
brooo
Is this not similar to Peach/Daisy dair fast fall cancel?
I'm a Peach player and I have no idea what you're talking about. Dair fastfall cancel? I've been playing the character since Ult came out, and I don't really think I've ever heard that term anywhere before. Do you mean jump-cancel fastfalls? The thing where Peach cancels her jump immediately into a fastfall and looks like Fox short-hop fastfalling?
@@bluyu yes ! sorry, I could not think of the actual name and I was lazy to look it up but I do mean that
I don’t understand what part about this is new.
Is he saying that the automatic fast fall from continuing to hold down on the joystick after doing an aerial is the “DFF”? If so, isn’t that basic knowledge? I must be missing something.
where is 6 and 7
we're in an intermission lol
So. Your making smashers of aether 😂🎉
Any use for isabelle
Probably optimal fair/bair fast fall as fast and close to the ground as possible, and up air for combos/juggle situations. Definitely hit the lab and see what she can do, those are the aerial's that come to mind with this tech Regarding Isabelle.
Why can’t I find days 6 & 7 😭
Uh oh
Like if you legit didnt know auto fadt falling existed. I always thought double fast falling was the only way to fast fall 😅😅😅
I hope it’s just idj again!!!!!!!
Can kazuya abuse this?
As a melee player we just call this a late aerial?
In 20 years we’re still gonna be finding stuff like this
What happened to day 6 & 7? 🤔
There never were a day 6 or 7
he explained it at the very beginning of the series or in the trailer, that he'd skip the weekend because of events. I think that's it?
I was 13 Mil with my Samus and idk Wtf happened but im down to 4 Mil and THE TRYHARDS are even worse😅
