I was privileged to see Buckethead do a gig with Maximum Bob (vocalist from his first big band The Deli Creeps, who were San Francisco legends of the underground rock scene) back in the 1990's at, of all places, an art gallery in Berkeley, CA. My buddy Doug took me to the gig. Doug was also a friend of Brian Carroll (aka Buckethead), and at the end of the gig, he says "C'mon, let's go say hello to Brian!" We walk outside, and around the back of this place, and lo and behold, there was this really tall guy with long, wild curly hair, loading guitar cases into his car. He had his girlfriend with him. No doubt. It WAS him. Doug says "Brian, I want you to meet my bud Eric. He plays bass, and is a huge fan of yours". He shook my hand....and I went into shock. I was like "Man....you are beyond words. I don't know how to properly express how incredible you are!" He said to me "thank you Eric. That means a lot to me". What struck me was how incredibly gracious and humble he was. No ego at all. He was just happy to be doing what he did, and did so without any sort of self-serving attitude. No, I am NOT making this up. This actually happened. Brian Carroll has created this amazing persona called Buckethead. Underneath it all, is an amazingly talented guitarist with zero ego. I know this, because I have met the man himself. One of my proudest moments as a musician, and as a music fan.
Cool story man ! I once had the privilege to talk to padge from bullet for my Valentine and he amazed me that he had no ego whatsoever and was a genuinely nice guy who just loves music . He asked questions rather than me belt feeding and it was really surprising how grounded he was with no ego . He was one of my younger years guitar hero’s as I liked his melodic solos and it is nice when one of your heroes turn out to actually be decent genuine people . As with Buckethead you can just tell in that rare interview that he did that he’s a genuine soulful person . The music means more when it seems so honest
Thanks for sharing that story Eric. It fits well with other comments and tales I've been reading about the man; they consistently portray a kind and gracious GENTLE MAN. Here on RUclips, is a recording of a long radio interview he did--the one wherein he revealed his heart condition--and his personality comes across the same way. Buckethead's kindness seems contagious. Have you noticed how little of the acrimony commonly encountered in other comment sections appears among the comments posted to Buckethead videos?
I always love seeing people react to Buckethead. It's always the same, the same shocked and amazed look. It's a realization that the guitar can be used to sing with. You don't need words, just a lot of practice / talent... Buckethead is a god among men. I'm glad I got to see the dude live I was front row in a real small venue in Syracuse and it was easily the best show Ive been to ever.
I agree....watching people go thru the experience of discovering BH is great....first it's bewilderment..the looks of disbelief....what is this? next, it's shock..."this doesn't sound like anything I've heard before".....then it's Amazement..(is that a word? ) ...oh my Lord this guy is unreal! ....Then it's anger, "Why did it take me so long to find him?" ... and then the smiles....( I love this!" ) .......finally...Acceptance.." Phenomenal, thy name is Buckethead.....
There is actually an interview with his therapist on youtube. Not sure if he got permission to talk about it, but he mentions him wanting to start an amusment park among other things, which could explain the performance art parts of his stuff. Both with the nunchucks, robot dances and other things. Apparently he is afraid to cold call potential investors and stuff, so he just continues to shred.
Brian Carroll is buckethead. 49 yrs old. The KFC bucket: I was eating it, and I put the mask on and then the bucket on my head. I went to the mirror. I just said, 'Buckethead. That's Buckethead right there.' It was just one of those things. After that, I wanted to be that thing all the time. - Buckethead, 1996, Guitar Player Magazine
Zachary Theriault from the last real interview with Buckethead, he stated he has unspecified heart issues. Over many years, I have never heard of him having Autism of any form. But he is who he is...
Buckethead recorded over 300 solo albums, from that 274 of so called "Pikes", of which he released 118 in 2015 alone. He also collaborated on many other projects and written some movie soundtracks. He was a member of Guns and Roses between 2000-2004. Some of his best songs are dedications to family members - e.g. Soothsayer is dedicated to his aunt, and Pike 65 (this is a 30-minute masterpiece) is dedicated to his deceased mother. Other than that, a lot of his work is stylised as attractions in an amusement park. His real name is Brian Carroll, born 1969. He never goes in public without the mask, there are no recent pictures of his face. He very rarely plays outside USA nowadays. He also almost never gives out-of-character interviews. He is almost 2 metres tall, and has freakishly long fingers (looks like Marfan syndrome).
This is incredible! What a joy to just sit and watch this girl's face as it happens to her! I don't know how he does it, I don't even wanna know how he does it, but Buckethead has some magic about him whereby he picks up that guitar and can reach right down into your soul with it like NO ONE else ever as! That's what you see happening to this young lady right before your eyes and it's a beautiful thing!!
I have been fortunate to see Buckethead 3 times in my life and he gets better as time passes on. To hear him play Soothsayer live is something so beautiful that tears formed in my eyes as I realized I was listening to the greatest guitarist in the world.
Awesome to see another chic reacting this song is amazing hey plays such clean perfect notes so clean then straight to perfect distortion Im a fan your right better late than never

Buckethead totally rocks it. I have read that the bucket is a result of extreme stage fright. What ever--i love the hell out of him. Have for years. Electric tears & colma CDs are two favorites. He is 6'4" & loves lebron james.
Buckethead has such a wide variety of interests and influences, most people aren't aware of his funky side, like with Praxis (with Bootsy Collins) and "Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains" with Bernie Worell. An incredible guitarist no matter what genre he plays.
Cool facts. Dave McKean (who has illustraded several Buckethead- albums) also have made a comic about the Buckethead- story. He was raised in a chickencoop near a slaughterhouse and he learned how to play guitar there. Some believe he is half alive and half dead and in hes head there is a themepark dedicated to him. This is of course fictional but i love how much fantasy he has put into hes caracter. Les Claypool from Primus has collaborated with him several times. You can hear parts of the story in the song Ballad of Buckethead featuring Les Claypool and Brain the drummer.

Okay now first and we love supporting you and second this is a very talented individual and the look on your face says it all great and heartfelt review rock on queen Oh yes and my grandma got me my first acoustic guitar for Christmas and years after helped get my first electric guitar as well
The thumb for this video that it showed was not of this version but I'm glad you did some homework (I guess) and picked the face melting emotion causing version that you'll end up telling your kids about in 10 years
My favourite song of his is whitewash, but my favourite version of it is a specific live version (you can look it up under the title Buckethead in all caps). If I had all the money in the world I’d just ask him to record that version in the studio so I can obsessively play it with good audio. He’s such a talented musician. My favourite guitarist by far.
I loled when you called Buckethead "Steve Vai with a Chef Boyardee bucket". As far a skill level goes, Buckethead is probably the greatest guitarist I've ever heard. My favorite Buckethead material is his album Hold Me Forever. I'd love to get your reaction to Candlemass - Bewitched. The music is great, and the video may be the most hilarious music video ever.
Brian Carroll is Buckethead...300 plus albums..played wirh Guns n Roses and Praxis....uses no vocals...plays a lot of styles you should hear his jazz guitar (Yokohama) it will leave you in tears...he ate a bucket of chicken and put the bucket ohs head and thoughr this is me!.....
Hey Pink... uni here. I am loving your channel thank you for your time. I was just wanting to ask if you had time to look at the song ( we all die young? It’s the one from the movie rock star. Thank you again. Great work
Actually FYI a lot of young people may not believe it but back in the day people including myself really thought this was PAUL GILBERT alter ego cos they have the exact same hands n fingers and same body shape. PAUL himself has been asked this question at live clinics.
You are one of the most interesting souls I've ever seen and heard on RUclips. I am 50 years old, so a ton of the music you are listening to was listened to by me when it was happening. I was into hardcore, punk and thrash metal. I saw All of it live in Rhode Island. You have rekindled my love for it because of your passion. Where does it come from? Hope to hear your answer. P.S. I was with plenty of black friends who lived the hardcore punk thrash scene. Never saw any young black girls/women. That's why I am so interested in understanding your passion. Cheers!!
Great video I personally prefer the version titled most emotional and best soothsayer performance I think it's called. Check that one out it's excellent 😁
ruclips.net/video/qFoBbNHvOME/видео.html I prefer this one because it is pure emotion from start to finish. The other versions are lacking by comparison
Sweetheart, the name of this song is indeed Soothsayer but the first part of it is not intended to be pronounced like the word "tooth". It is a melody that is meant to "SOOTH" the heart and the guitar is the "SAYER". Awesome that you love the song. I hope you have listened to more of Bucketheads' music.
Buckethead is one of the elite shredders to be sure.I find him a little reminiscent of Joe Satriani, amazing tone from his rig, & the kill button saves alot of money on replacing toggle switches trying to get the same effect. No one knows there way around an effects rack like Buckethead, cept maybe Tom Morello from RATM. 8- )
It was rumored to be Paul Gilbert once upon a time. He is his own person. He as over 200 albums out and has played with the likes of Les Claypool many others. He has ultimate anonymity.
Amazing! He gets a bad rap for his persona but he is an absolute off the charts monster guitar player. Great composition by a solo guitar player. Dynamics, feel, tone, and technique.

Brian Carroll is 6 feet 6, his guitar is about 10% bigger than standard, and I first found his work because Bernie Worrell worked with him in Praxis
Buckethead isn't a human! What's more amazing....he did that with his eyes closed!
nottingham lace, jordan, soothesayer, final wars, padmasana and many others tbh hard to have a favorite song when they all mesmerize you
The man under the mask is my friend, Brian. He doesn't want anyone to know anything else about him. He wants the music to speak for itself.

Okay now first and we love supporting you and second this is a very talented individual and the look on your face says it all great and heartfelt review rock on queen Oh yes and my grandma got me my first acoustic guitar for Christmas and years after helped get my first electric guitar as well
Excellent reaction. Good observation.
You haven't seen the nunchucks and dancing skills he have, he's also like Santa, giving gifts.
I'm glad you picked this one! 💚
This man plays with his Soul at his Fingertips .🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
SO SOULFUL!
The thumb for this video that it showed was not of this version but I'm glad you did some homework (I guess) and picked the face melting emotion causing version that you'll end up telling your kids about in 10 years
Once again I am way older mentally so I love rock and metal at such a young age
My favourite song of his is whitewash, but my favourite version of it is a specific live version (you can look it up under the title Buckethead in all caps). If I had all the money in the world I’d just ask him to record that version in the studio so I can obsessively play it with good audio. He’s such a talented musician. My favourite guitarist by far.
Get well Buckethead
can listen to her talk about butter and biscuits all day... :)
One of my favorite movie scenes hahaha "WHAT ARE THEY TEACHING YOU THESE DAYS !!!" 😂😂
Finally
Thanks this 1 is new to me dude is 🔥🔥got a long reach with his fingers traversed smooth
Yooo love you Mona! & This is how I love my guitars done..... Properly!!! 😍😎
Must say, this is my favorite way to see people react. Let the song speak for itself and then comment.
True!
Buckethead - Siege Engine
I loled when you called Buckethead "Steve Vai with a Chef Boyardee bucket". As far a skill level goes, Buckethead is probably the greatest guitarist I've ever heard. My favorite Buckethead material is his album Hold Me Forever.
I'd love to get your reaction to Candlemass - Bewitched. The music is great, and the video may be the most hilarious music video ever.
Loved the video btw
PMH/Mona, Brian Carroll aka Buckethead has a song as tribute to his mom who died of cancer some years. Song is called "For Mom" off from album, Colma.

HAHAHA Steve Vai with a mask and bucket on his head LOL
the buckethead guitar talks to our soul
Rox, from Brasil.
Do a reaction to Buckethead - "I Love My Parents"
Always makes me emotional!
Deep Purple - Lazy, live in Scandinavia 1972
Brian Carroll is Buckethead...300 plus albums..played wirh Guns n Roses and Praxis....uses no vocals...plays a lot of styles you should hear his jazz guitar (Yokohama) it will leave you in tears...he ate a bucket of chicken and put the bucket ohs head and thoughr this is me!.....
My favourite...playing live...he plays it different every time.. If you havent already...check out the studio version.. A category all by himself..,
Hey Pink... uni here. I am loving your channel thank you for your time. I was just wanting to ask if you had time to look at the song ( we all die young? It’s the one from the movie rock star. Thank you again. Great work
The all time best love BH fuc.... Genius
one of the rare times I have ever heard bucket make a mistake
Buckethead’s first band “The Deli Creeps” or his second band-“Praxis” with Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins.
Guitfiddlejase Praxis is Bill Laswell’s baby.
Cheers!!
Wow, I am very surprised about this video, you found out about Buckethead. I saw you get the chills halfway through, 😉
WOW! You are beautiful!
Brian Caroll (aka Buckethead) also composed the original American Power Rangers Theme song. Or so I've heard I'm not 100% sure on that.
fear factory... hunter killer..-dark bodies...-edge crusher..your in for a wild ride their drummer is a legend!
Buckethead is Buckethead. He is not another guitarist. I've listened to him for over a decade
Haha I know. Just joking
PinkMetalHead I didn't mean to sound rude. I love your videos. Keep up the great work
Great video I personally prefer the version titled most emotional and best soothsayer performance I think it's called.
His name is Brian Carroll
Buckethead is one of the elite shredders to be sure.I find him a little reminiscent of Joe Satriani, amazing tone from his rig, & the kill button saves alot of money on replacing toggle switches trying to get the same effect. No one knows there way around an effects rack like Buckethead, cept maybe Tom Morello from RATM.
8- )
Thank You for your kindness understanding and Love!
i have the same reaction with the fingers watching him play, they remind me of spiders legs
Paul Gilbert taught Buckethead when he first started another awesome guitarist but Buckethead is the best their is by far in my opinion.
THE BEST IN THE WORLD
