What is your ranking of every Christopher Nolan movie? 👇🏻
Out of the ones I've seen:
1. TDK 🐐
2. Inception
3. The Prestige
4. Interstellar
5. Memento
6. Batman Begins
7. The Dark Knight Rises
"Christopher Nolan may have the best filmography of all time"
Spielberg: "Hold my beer"
Got to love Spielberg classic of "Howard the Duck".
@@scottn.4865 Howard the Duck is a George Lucas movie, not Spielberg
I have only seen 4, there is only one good Nolan movie i have seen
4- Oppenheimer
3- Batman Begins
2- Dark Knight rises
1- The Dark Knight
All of Christopher Nolan’s movies ending gave me chills and goosebumps like ending of Dark Knight is heroic, ending of Inception is mind blowing, the ending of Dunkirk is cause of wars, the ending of Prestige is result on how two rivals that invoked other people dying.
However the ending of Oppenheimer it has different feels, I loved how Nolan recreated Oppenheimer’s speech at the end but in a visualization style and shows the clever representation of future use of his atomic bomb.
You forgot the ending of momento ! …
Agree
You forgot the ending of interstellar
Oppenheimer topped the list to me off first watch. I am so enthralled with the story & that time period, as well as having brief stints attempting to research quantum physics/mechanics (for personal interest, not for practical reasons). The script was Nolan’s best by far IMO. Incredible how he managed to make a dialogue heavy film feel like an action movie. The pacing was fast, representing the chaos in Oppies life, but it was all tied together seamlessly. The use of score & sound - oh my god - I think this was Nolan’s best as well. Incredible score from Ludwig (my second favorite from a Nolan film after inception). The tension buildups & releases literally took my breath away. The trinity test was a master class in tension building/release.
I really just can’t get over this film, 4 days after viewing. I’m going again in 2 days and couldn’t be more excited.
i agree with this, i hope you get some bitches you deserve it
Nice ranking Chris mines would be
1. Interstellar
2. The Dark Knight
3. Inception
4. Oppenheimer
5. Batman Begins
6. The Prestige
7. The Dark Knight Roses
8. Memento
9. Insomnia
10. Dunkirk
11. Following
12. Tenet
Tenet in its rightful place. I love that Oppenheimer is almost a full 180 from that film proving that Nolan learns from his mistakes. We went from a cardboard-character, almost soulless, intellectual-exercise, plot driven movie to a heartfelt, beautiful, haunting film. Tenet will always be a “cool” movie, but I hope Nolan doesn’t do another super high-concept film devoid of actual character development.
I love dark knight “roses”
Oppenheimer, Inception, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight are becoming more and more interchangeable to me because they’re all simply amazing in their own ways. Depending on my mood, any could be #1, but I’m usually in the mood that makes Inception #1. 😅
Dude
I never read a comment that's so relatetable before lol
@@solidsnake2883 Yes, dude. He’s a master.
I have seen all of them except Oppenheimer (will see it tomorrow) for me N1 with no doubt is Inception
Interstellar is definitely my favorite! The soundtrack on the scenes just hit different for me. 😊
My favourite too. It’s a polarising film. People either really, really love it. Or thinks it’s okay.
That organ though
@@maingamer6846Interstellar dust soundtrack around minute 2 has some of the best music I’ve ever listened to. It literally feels as if the universe is trying to communicate in the form of music. It’s just breathtaking.
@@Andy-pw8tm Interstellar is the Nolan film with the best score by far
@@maingamer6846 agreed. My second favourite would have to be the can you hear the music from oppenheimer
Good list i have
1. Inception
2.The Dark Knight
3.Interstellar
4.Oppenheimer
5.Memento
6.The Prestige
7.Batman Begins
8.Insomnia
9.The Dark Knight rises
10.Dunkirk
11.Tenet

Seeing Oppenheimer tomorrow, I'm probably gonna explode in my excitement before I even get to the theater.
There is a naked scene so don’t forget to close ur eyes!
@@Tyrus69 I know. Saw it in the description for the R rating on IMDB 😅
Wait , which naked scene ?
I am going to see it tomorrow.
@@nenadivanaignjatovic8377 I think there's a s*x scene in it with nudity.
Saw it today. Definitely more than one.
1: Oppenheimer
2: Inception
3: Interstellar (his most underrated film imo)
4: The Dark Knight
5: Memento
6: Dunkirk
7: The Prestige
8: Batman Begins
9: The Dark Knight Rises
10: Following
11: Tenet
I have a hard time ranking Insomnia since he didn’t have a hand in the writing process.
Great list! I think it’s fascinating how some think Interstellar is underrated while I find it to be overrated.
I have to say inception is overrated. Rewatched rhe movie yesterday after not having to watch it for a decade. The entire movie is an exposition dump, no emotional depth of any characters except Leo.
@@jeppong dunno why you'd think it has more exposition than any of his Batman movies (TDKR, in particular) but to each their own. Contrary to your comment, nobody is making you HAVE to watch Inception or any of his films lmao
Underrated ? Lol u ask any person on the street or the internet what their favorite movie is, they’ll probably say Interstelar it’s pretty overrated for me imo , prestige and memento are the real underrated masterpieces from Nolan but Inception, dark knight, Oppenheimer, the prestige are his top imo
@@fetty5166 yes, it IS underrated, and I don't know what kinds of people you talk to, but I rarely hear anyone say it's their favorite Nolan movie. (Granted, if you re-read, you'd see it's 3rd lol) I do, however, hear plenty of people who say what you have to say, but I personally think it gets better which each viewing as I get older. (I do agree that The Prestige and Memento are underrated too, tho)
Great list, Tenet & Dark Knight Rises are definitely underrated!
I loved Oppenheimer but it’s not up there for me being honest interstellar is a true masterpiece and I would have to put that at 1 but the dark night films are great
Just finished oppenheimer esrlier today. And I can say that Interstellar is still my top 1
I think interstellar is very overrated. The dark knight and inception are clearly better, and I’ll put Oppenheimer above it too
I definitely appreciate and respect your list, even if I disagree with some placements. I am still waiting for a Nolan film to take the top spot from The Prestige for me. The Prestige is in my top five films of all time. I need to ruminate on Oppenheimer for a bit. It was an amazing experience.
I literally keep coming back to this vid to get good opinion on movies so thanks Chris!
Inceptions my #1 as well, it’s flawless
This is my favorite Nolan rankings video, loved your thoughts on all 12 films! Not in the same order, but I have the same top 6!
I came across your video and really liked it! +1 subscriber.
Here is my ranking of what I watched:
1. Inception, Inception, Inception, Inception, Inception. Nothing beats this, best movie I've ever watched. Everything is perfect and the Hans Zimmer score just finishes it off as a masterpiece.
2. Oppenheimer: I think this movie is just pure perfection. One thing I would bet all my money on is Cillian Murphy winning the Oscar for best acting. The cast, the cinematography!!!!!!!!!!!!!, the score, the story, it is all perfect. I would be very sceptical about a movie with 3 hours of conversations but because it is a Nolan film I had high expectations and it was perfect and didn't bore me at all.
3. Interstellar: Matthew McConaughey plus the Hans Zimmer score is just the best feeling I've ever witnessed. I have been really fortunate to rewatch it in IMAX last year because the cinema put it on again. Also have been to multiple Hans Zimmer concerts, if Hans Zimmer Live ever is near you definitely go!
4. The Prestige: Just like you said, this plot is just put together so incredibly well. When you rewatch it you notice so many very small clues that are being given during the entire movie. When I watched it for the first time I really felt like the entire plot was right in front of me during the entire film but I never could put my finger on it. Then the ending of the film just blew my mind.
5. The Dark Knight: This movie just has so many great performances by the cast. The entire mood of the film is perfect and yet again a fantastic Hans Zimmer score.
6. Memento: I just really like how the movie has been set up with the chronological timeline and non-linear timeline mixing together. Great movie.
7. Tenet: I think Tenet is just too complicated, I watched lots of explainers and rewatched it and I just still don't fully understand it. Apart from that I really like the mood of the film and the cast is very good.
8. Dunkirk: It has been a while since I watched it, maybe if I rewatch it that it would be higher.
9. The Dark Knight Rises
10. Batman Begins
I found it very hard to put this together because they are all so good. I found Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises above average and very good but not super special but from Dunkirk on every movie is just at the top of my favorite movies list. They are all so good. I really love the Christopher Nolan + Hoyte van Hoytema + Hans Zimmer trio, it is pure perfection. Ludwig Goransson
ofcourse did his last 2 movies instead of Hans Zimmer because he is doing Dune(AMAZING SCORE) but I love Ludwig his scores too.
I'm very much looking forward to his next movie, I really hope his next movie will be a sci-fi movie again like Inception, Interstellar or Tenet.
Sorry if there are any spelling errors, I do not feel like reading all this again to check it hahaha.
Most of his movies made me a fan immediately, but Instellar is the one the has grown on me the most over time. Also you give mad Tarantino vibes in a good way1!!!
Oppenheimer was a true *banger* movie and a mind *blowing* one.
Great ranking.

Doesn't really work if you rate half his movies a perfect score

its a crime to have interstellar and prestige so low in the list

Why is the dark knight rises higher than interstellar and the prestige
My Top 10
1: The Dark Knight (overall his most perfect movie imo; great dramaturgy, great story, very philosophical too)
2: Inception (well it's just too damn iconic; From this one on, I became a huge Cristopher Nolan fan)
3: Tenet (gets way too much hate and is brilliantly structured imo; Watching this feels like solving a puzzle while just being in awe about the way the story unfolds)
4: Interstellar (so emotional and I just love the cinematography and music)
5: Oppenheimer (probably overall his masterpiece and only on number 5 because I love the other ones so much)
6: Prestige (such a great one too, with a great twist and a nice story)
7: Dunkirk (I will always remember sitting in that cinema and just quivering in the chairs every time a plane flew by)
8: Batman Begins (fantastic origin story for a hero with a philosophical undertone; Just stands a bit in the shadow of its sequel)
9: Memento (such a genius creation of a movie, but I just don't have that much fun rewatching it)
10: Dark Knight Rises (don't like this very much; the interesting ideas of the first two movies are already told and it is heartbreaking to see the downfall of the hero)
For me Dunkirk is higher
Fair, I should probably rewatch it some time soon, since last time is already a couple of years ago... But it is also so hard for me to move some of the others down... Nolan is just delivering too much :D@@louis-nz8ce
I think Inception is the perfect middle ground for the average viewer vs film nerd, with still having the psychological thriller/mystery/suspense feel and other technical aspects of Nolan and then also being an entertaining action blockbuster movie. But in terms of a technical aspect only, I think Oppenheimer is unarguably his best film, I just don't think it can be appreciated (at least not to a full extent) by the average viewer.
I think "Inception" is my favorite movie performed by C. Nolan. Last week I bought for third time the original DVD, only by pleasure of watching it for the rest of my life. Greetings buddy.

Same top 3 as me but I have Memento 1 and TDK 2
@@katungordon4847 prior to this week I had only seen Memento once and it was yeaaaaars ago. Rewatched it this week and I remembered so little it was like watching it for the first time again. Loved it. Immediately after I finished it I went to watch a version that put all the scenes in chronological order. That highlights even more how brilliant the non-chronological version is.
I have rewatched Interstellar a few weeks ago at work again, but wasn't paying too much attention so I will definitely rewatch it soon, but I just don't love the movie. I really enjoy it, but don't connect to the characters.
Also rewatched Inception earlier this year. But I just find it gets duller every time.. A lot of the movie is exposition and that definitely wears off after the first few viewings.
Curious to see how I experience them inbetween other Nolan films.
I put Oppenheimer as my favorite movie of all time bc it’s actually the first Nolan film to see it in IMax, so I think the experience of the movie in IMax would be my most favorite movie of all time.

Great Ranking Chris I Just Saw Oppenheimer Yesterday And It Was Unbelievable But Dosent Quite Beat Dark Knight Or Inception. And O Agree The Dark Knight Rises Doesn’t Deserve The Hate It Gets But Not As Good As Batman Begins For Me

The Dark Knight Trilogy is an iconic 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Your Top 5 is spot on ;)
I recommend watching a film called Paprika which came out in 2006, as you mentioned Inception was one-of-a-kind. I think you'd enjoy it, with the caveat that it might make you appreciate Inception a little less.

Most people don't like Rises, but it's actually my favourite in the trilogy. I find The Dark Knight to be too ambitious, in that it introduces a new antagonist two-thirds of the way through. It's one of those films where I wish Nolan had reined himself in.
Edit: Also, I rewatched Inception and it didn't hold up quite as well as I had expected.
The dark knight rises, aside from some good performances, is such a crappy film, if you turn your brain off and enjoy it, I guess it can be fun but otherwise its by far my least favourite Nolan film
@@tristanlanphere7736 Agree
Most people DO like Rises. It's mostly just a lot of online commenters who aren't fond of it. Also strongly disagree about The Dark Knight. It didn't "introduce" a new antagonist, it was always structured around the fall of Harvey Dent.
@@windowsVD I meant "introduce" in the sense that he "became" an antagonist two-thirds through, which made the story feel a bit crowded. You already have the Joker - you don't need Dent as well. Also, the VFX work was over-the-top I felt (I know that was intentional).
@@GamesTribeNow Disagree. Dent is Joker's "ace in the hole" as he called it, in Batman's philosophical battle against the Joker. The inclusion of Two-Face did a lot to keep the story from being a pretty standard Batman v Joker story.

Thanks for defending Dark Knight Rises. And for putting Inception above Dark Knight. Totally agree. (Tenet will always be his weak link to me.)
For me Oppenheimer is a tight smart movie wrapped up inside a bigger, somewhat messier movie, so I like what it is at its core. I find it a bit disturbing that I've watched a few reviews and somehow no one mentions Matt Damon. I worry that he suffers a bit from sounding boyish no matter how old he gets. However, some of the exchanges of Matt Damon's General Groves with Cillian Murphy's Oppenheimer are gold, I enjoy imagining a master of sharp dialogue like Aaron Sorkin watching in envy. The movie also confirms an old opinion for me: for as conflicted as Oppenheimer was, it was Edward Teller who comes across to me more as a true villain. Your list is solid, but I rank Insomnia much higher, for its Pacino performance and his character's moral ambiguity.
My ranking:

I’m glad to see someone finally giving The Dark Knight Rises the praise it deserves! It seems to get a lot of unfair scrutiny (and while it is definitely flawed, some people have accused it of “not sticking the landing”) and most of it doesn’t make sense. Yes there are plot holes and Bane’s plans are a bit stupid and yes there is a terrible twist villain, however, let’s consider the following. The Dark Knight (which is still better imo) has its own nitpicks as well, like why does Batman leave the Joker in his penthouse after saving Rachel, how does the Joker even set up his insane schemes, why do the police do nothing, etc. People trying to nitpick TDKR while ignoring the faults in Dark Knight are being disingenuous. Plus, like TDK, TDKR has lots of other messages and things to say about the world. Batman Begins doesn’t really have any themes other than fear. TDK is all about anarchy, chaos, morality, justice, etc. TDKR builds on this and looks at themes of populism, mob mentality, communism and rule of law. And finally, the score in TDKR is OUTSTANDING. The insane amount of drum beats and tubular bells makes the ending feel like a primal ritual in the best possible way.
perfect list imo
I think Dunkirk is his best work & is a masterpiece in every way.
Going to see Oppenheimer Today!
Respect your opinion obviously, but was very surprised to see movies like Memento, Dunkirk behind movies like The Dark Knight Rises and Tenet. Never seen that before haha.
12: Insomnia (2002)(I’m sorry, but Nolan is such a good writer than a film that he didn’t write his kinda poorly written despite being really good. It’s lacking Nolan’s flare, but I love the cast!)
11: Following (1998)(I enjoyed this film a lot more than I thought I would! The non-linear storytelling is compelling and the twist! The twist! The twist is amazing!)
10: Dunkirk (2017)(This is a super interesting war movie. It’s satisfying, thrilling, and structured really well imo! The hate for Dunkirk is unwarranted)
9: Oppenheimer (2023)(Don’t kill me! I respect this film more than I like it. It’s extremely well made and deserves all the Oscar’s! I love the movie, but in comparison to the rest, I would sooner rewatch them)
8: Memento (2000)(This movie blew my mind! I love this film, I really loved it when I first saw it. However, it’s a film that after 2 watches, gets kind of uninteresting)
7: Batman Begins (2005)(An amazing, yet flawed start to the greatest trilogy of all time! I love this movie and have seen it a bunch of times)
6: Tenet (2020)(Nolan at his most Nolaniest, making a Nolan movie with all of Nolan’s Nolanisms. He put his whole Nolussy into this film)
5: Interstellar (2014)(I’m convinced Nolan went to space to film these scenes! Next time someone says Nolan’s films lack emotion, show them Interstellar and they will shut up instantly)
4: Inception (2010)(Amazing! The most Nolany Nolan film until Tenet’s release. Also, he is awake at the end because he didn’t have his ring on)
3: The Dark Knight Rises (2012)(This film has many problems, but this is such a special movie. Call me biased, but I was born in Pittsburgh and was like 5 or 6 when this film came out. Parts of this movie where filmed in Pittsburgh so I grew up with my dad telling stories about him working in the Burgh during filming and I have watched this film a ton since I grew up with it)
2: The Prestige (R.I.P my braincells! Shattered them all into 1,000,000 tiny pieces! Nolan is a genius!)
1: The Dark Knight (2008)(My favorite movie of all time! The Dark Knight cannot do any wrong in my opinion)

I think you've gotta watch Tenet again. It doesn't necessarily get better with rewatches, but the ideas, plot points, and characters become more clear after 4-5 rewatches. I know that a lot to ask cuz it's like 10 hours of cinema, but the main concept becomes only really shows itself after a few times.
My Ranking of all of Nolan's films:
1. Oppenheimer
2. The Dark Knight
3. Batman Begins
4. Memento

I also have The Prestige high and nice to see it high on a list as most have it low
Hell yeah bro The Prestige
10. Dark Knight Rises - unlike almost every other film to his credit, it seems like there is nothing new here. This film is cookie cutter Nolan on a ridiculous budget. The only thing it has going for it is that it blew your mind when you were 12 and you will never forget that (I'm 50, btw). If it were any other director, I would rate it MUCH higher.
9. Insomnia - I did not realize that it's the only one he didn't write. Thanks for pointing that out!
8. Batman Begins - Oh, man this was so goood. Totally agree with all of your comments on this.
7. The Prestige - Great to see this so high on your list! Wow. I'm really going to have to watch it again. This film is excellent.
6. Tenet - His most ambitious work. Pure Action. I feel like this will get better with age, but it's so frustrating to watch because I want to know everything instead of just enjoying it. Visually stunning.
5. Memento - I forgot what I was going to say about this one.
4. The Dark Knight - Outstanding. Just unreal. I will always remember my experience at the cinema watching this. The lines between these top four films are really blurry but I have to draw them somewhere.
3. Inception - I was fascinated with a movie called 'Dreamscape' when I was a kid and Inception was so much more than I could have asked for.
2. Interstellar - Nolan does drama! This one requires more patience and more willingness to trust the director with our time. Not for everyone, but I think it is trying to achieve something quite special and it does a pretty darn good job. Amazing performances all around.
1. Dunkirk - So very tight and the short runtime helps. There's not a moment lost in this one. Land, air and sea.
Looking forward to Oppenheimer.

16:47 I wouldn't call it the most original concept... considered the same concept was in the movie "Paprika" 4 years before that which was adapted from a 1993 novel.
I am nit saying Nolan was influenced by this movie directly, but there are some undeniably similar scenes in both the movies.
Nolan is my personal favorite director because I love every movie of his that I have seen.
Here is my ranking of all of his movies that I have seen!
1. Inception (my favorite movie of all time)
2. Interstellar
3. The Dark Knight
4. Oppenheimer
5. Memento
6. The Dark Knight Rises
7. Tenet
8. Batman Begins
9. Dunkirk
Inception was my favorite film of all time too….until I watched The Prestige. Highly recommend, Nolan at his best in my opinion
Dark knight rises supremacy🔥
Anybody know what he's doing next??? I ran a Google search and found no results.
I am sorry but i am pretty sure that in a future Nolan ranking, Oppenheimer will drop significantly, not because is a bad movie but because it's really a one time watch movie. Certainly one of the best films of the year but arguably the Chris Nolan film that i would choose to rewatch last
This. In 5 years are people really going sit there, discuss putting on a Nolan movie and decide to watch the 3 hour somewhat muddled story of physicists and senators in rooms talking?
@@kevtb874 Agreed....personally its already in my bottom half of Nolan films.
@@kevtb874 for me it's like Schindler's list, i know that objectively the film might be spilberg magnum opus but i cannot put at the top of my ranking because it doesn't make for an easy re-watch because of the runtime and the real life drama.
Interstellar and Oppenheimer are my favorites.

Memento is 12; I need to watch it again.
Inception got me bored in the begging of the third act but TDK, what an amazing film. When I watched TDK for the first time I didn't know about Nolan or bale or Heath.. at the end of the movie I said this is my favorite one.
