Cody is real, doesn't buy into the hype with new movies and doesn't pretentious with boutique movies either. And Cody can empathize with what other people like too
@@crooster1I think most RUclips reviewers either conform to the most popular opinion or go out of their way to be contractarian -- either way, they do not express what they really think and only say what they think will get the most views. By trying to conform or be contractarian, they are not being honest about how they feel in the same way Cody is.
I love that you genuinely give your thoughts and talk at length even during rankings, these videos are what get me through the long drives while I'm moving to a new house. Love your work man! 1. Interstellar- Top 10 Favorite Ever 2. Inception 3. Dark Knight Rises 4. Tenet 5. Dark Knight 6. Memento 7. Dunkirk 8. Batman Begins 9. Prestige 10. Oppie 11. Insomnia 12. Following
On paper, I shouldn’t like Cody, a man who doesn’t like History, War Movies, or Quantum Physics, but his reviews are spot on, and he has a pretty good grasp on pop cinema for a person his age. Best of all is that he is his own man with his own opinions. The most refreshing RUclips movie reviewer in my book…
18:06 100% agree with ya Cody. The Dark Knight is definitely one of the greatest comic book/superhero films of all time….that being said, hearing that statement again and again and again and AGAIN, for 15 years, it starts to put a bad taste in your mouth. Like I love a good steak, in my mind there’s nothing better, but if I had steak every night, no matter how good it is, eventually I’m gonna get sick of steak. That’s basically my relationship with TDK.
@patton2773 My preference is Batman Begins, TDKR then TDK. Best Batman movie for me is either Batman Returns or Lego Batman. My go to comic book movies are Blade, X2, Logan and Hellboy
Nah, it's not very good really, and very generic of it's time. The most "un- Nolan" movie he has made too, I remember how hyped up I was to see it after Memento and how incredibly disappointed I was when I did, it just felt so bland.
@@ChubbyChecker182I remember loving it the first 2 times but most recent rewatch it's probably his weakest of the ones I'm a fan of,it's a solid thriller but not what Nolan is best at
I was up beyond the Arctic Circle in June ... and experienced the effect of never seeing night. And it DOES mess with your mind. The film now resonates so much more.
Whenever people ask "what movie would you watch again for the first time" the answer is always The Prestige. I remember it ending, and just slowly turning to look at the friend that I'd gone to see it with, and being absolutely blown away. I wish I could bottle that feeling. Amazing film. I 10,000 percent disagree with you on Dunkirk lol in every way shape and form but I'll forgive it under the circumstances.
@@AntLeonardi01 How dare you ever generalize? Even if it’s based off of statistical data and is accurate, it’s still not allowed. I should preface that you can generalize all you want about men, even if there is absolutely no validity to anything you say, but you can never generalize about womem (obvious sarcasm😂). Its funny how when women get angry about “generalization”, they immediately go to body shaming. How many layers of irony do you need?😂
You've always been one of those RUclips's that no matter what you say how you feel about a subject no matter what anyone else says and I've always respected that. So although i don't agree with some of your opinions i defiantly respect them and see where you are coming from with all of them. Great video
When Inception came out, I somehow hadn't heard about it, or even saw a trailer for it, but my friend asked if I wanted to go see it, and just told me it was about people who go into other people's dreams. So we went, and I remember being invested the whole way, and the scene when they are fighting in the hallway, and they start flying up the walls, because of how it looked being done in camera, and practically, my friend and I both looked at each other and were just like "holy shit!" An actual masterpiece of a movie.
Yeah I agree. Personally it’s on my personal Mount Rushmore of favorite Nolan films. Unfortunately like Cody said I feel that part of the reason it’s become underrated is because it’s the only film where either Nolan himself isn’t credited with contributing to the script, or he didn’t personally bring someone onboard to write it.
RESPECT Dude..as much as I love OPPENHEIMER & TDK, U ranking Prestige at no. 2 & ur love for BB got my respect for u back again. The fact that we love Nolan's movies based on Number of rewatches proves his mattel (pun) as a visionary director of all times. My list (atm): Inception> TDK> Oppenheimer> Prestige> Batman Begins> Memento> Interstellar> TDKR> Insomnia> Tenet> Dunkirk> Following
Dude I agree that Batman begins is my absolute favorite Batman movie in Nolan’s trilogy. It’s one of the few movies that really shaped my love of film. Adore Batman Begins

Nolan Movies(90's-00's): The Dark Knight Memento Batman Begins The Prestige Insomnia Following Nolan Movies(10's-20's): Inception Oppenheimer Dunkirk The Dark Knight Rises Interstellar Tenet
So I know people love Interstellar but... heres my ranking: 01- Memento (9.5/10) 02- Inception (9/10) 03- The Dark Knight (9/10) 04- Dunkirk (9/10) 05- Oppenheimer (8.5/10) 06- The Prestige (8/10) 07- Batman Begins (7.5/10) 08- Interstellar (7/10) 09- Insomnia (7/10) 10- The Dark Knight Rises (6.5/10) 11- Tenet (6/10) 12- Following (6/10)
My ranking: 1. Interstellar 2. The Dark Knight 3. Inception 4. The Prestige 5. Oppenheimer 6. Memento 7. Dunkirk 8. The Dark Knight Rises 9. Batman Begins 10. Tenet
I was also not a fan of dunkirk at all, but I loved Oppenheimer. Like you, I am also not a huge WW2 historian, and the lack of focus on any character took me out of that movie. However, I feel like Oppenheimer is the opposite and I feel like it is Dunkirk done right. The characters are rich, and the dialogue is infinitely captivating to me. I was in awe in a way that I thought only pretentious cinephiles could be lol. I loved that we stuck with Oppenheimer for the entire movie. In particular, the scene where Oppenheimer is delivering that speech in the gym structure was such a standout for me. I loved how Nolan decided to represent the devastation from the bombs by having Oppenheimer see burnt body husks and someone’s face burning off as representation of the mental devastation that he was going through in that moment. Nolan could have easily shown the bombs exploding in Japan, but this creative choice was much more powerful and captivating. It also helped instill that we are truly viewing everything through and with Oppenheimer. I wonder if Oppenheimer might move up once you are able to watch it at home with the ability to pause and put on subtitles
Dunkirk also was low for me..and I love war movies ....I just watched Oppenheimer and it is fantastic...each character I felt their own personal struggle with their responsibility....great performances ...in a way the movie reminds me of a blend of There will be blood and Goodnight and Good luck... Highly recommend watching both..
16:10-16:16 In 2008 we also got Punisher War Zone and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army were the same year as well though both didn’t get talked about as much as Iron Man and Dark Knight until years later In the last 15 years since The Dark Knight, we’ve had some great comic book movies that need to be talked about more which is why The Batman 2022 was interesting to talk to others about in terms of whether it lives up to it. Would something if Matt Reeves’s The Batman Part II can make a Batman movie that could really revival or perhaps even surpass The Dark Knight
I appreciate you giving The Prestige and Insomnia some love! The Prestige is also one of my favorite books of all time, and Nolan absolutely nailed the adaptation.
I know I'm in the minority but Tenet is my favourite. I've seen it so many times. Just the concept alone of going backwards through time is mind blowing. I really like the protagonist and Neil, and I know it may sounds cliché but every time I watch it I discover something new
Dunkirk!!! Fuck dude. Even if you don’t like war movies. I love this movie dude. Here’s why: I am a fan of films- and this movie is a film, not a great story but oh man. You feel like you are there, best sound design of any movie I’ve heard, plus really good camera action
I agree with you on the dark knight with it being bogged down a bit because of how people praise it. Similar to Halloween and Revenge of the Sith, not that I dislike any of these movies, but they’re definitely over talked
I love your placing of The Prestige at No2. I absolutely adore that film, I probably watch it about 2 or 3 times each year and it's still as good as the 1st time I saw it. It's just got a magic (no pun intended) feeling about it, a mystique that not many films have. The fact its based around the 3 parts of a magic trick gives you the feeling you're watching real magic at work and even after 15 years of watching this film I still feel mesmerised by it every time. Also, arguably, the greatest cast in any film ever. Rebecca Hall is absolutely amazing as Bordens wife but her performance never really gets a mention. Then you've got 2 absolute A grade leading men, both at the height of their powers, going against each other on screen. The whole thing is perfect
Omg i agree 100% about interstellar. Its the first movie in decades thats actually brought me to tears while watching it. That exact scene where hes watching the videos from his grown up kids. Holy C 😢😢❤❤❤
Here are my Top 5 Favorite Chrisopher Nolan Films 5. Memento-This isn’t one that I rewatch a whole lot, but that doesn’t stop this movie from being an incredible achievement in cinema that makes for an amazing first and second watches 4. Interstellar-While I don’t 100% buy into the third act, upon rewatching this movie again last week, I got quite a bit more invested this movie than I ever had because of its ability to be very emotion and thought provoking at the same time 3. Inception-Objectively, this is Nolan’s masterpiece because of its amazing special effects, fantastic cast, memorable set pieces, big ideas, great journey for DiCaprio, and its ability to be incredibly intelligent while never being indulgent 2. Batman Begins-In my mind, this is the definitive origin story for my all time favorite superhero because it’s able to be very true to the Bruce Wayne/Batman character while having Nolan’s storytelling, aesthetics, and ideas 1. The Dark Knight-A phenomenal comic book film that has fantastic performances, elements from Michael Mann’s Heat, ideas of crime, escalating conflict, the difference between good and evil, and responsibility, which makes for one of my Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time
Ummm excuse me, how DARE you have differing opinions than mine?!? disliked, unsubbed, blocked, and reported!! Lmao, great vid Cody! I def agree on Oppenheimer, not one of my favorite nor re-watchable Nolan films.
Disagree with your ranking but I respect that you’re shedding your opinion and are fair even if a film’s not for you. You’re acknowledging that all these films are great films in their own right it’s just a matter of which ones you personally connect to most. I rank my films differently than most. I grade 2 lists: critical and my enjoyment. Enjoyment: 1. TENET - Love the concept and the spectacle even if the storyline is very complicated. Think it gets unnecessary shit on. 2. TDK - great action, story and great performances. 3. INCEPTION - love the concept and emotionality w/h story 4. TDKR - Despite contrivances I still really enjoy this film and like TENET I think it gets unnecessary hate 5. BATMAN BEGINS - Love the story here and how it changed the comic book genre. 6. MEMENTO - Love the concept and performances but like Cody it’s a film that I get a bit impatient with repeat viewings 7. INTERSTELLAR - Love the emotionality and the visuals here. I get a lot of people are hit and miss with the ending. I personally love it. Why it’s down this low for me is purely just a movie I’d pop in the Blu Ray and want to rewatch. 8. THE PRESTIGE - great acting and visuals. Love this movie just not the most rewatchable for me personally. 9. DUNKIRK - Great concept and filmmaking at play here. Totally admire and love what he’s going for. I adore this movie (as I adore all of Nolan’s movies). It’s again a matter of rewatch factor for me personally. 10. INSOMNIA - Great acting but since it’s Nolan’s only film that he did not write - I personally can feel that here. Not a bad film by any stretch. I think it’s a damn great film. And the story is great just the only one of this list I feel is the “least Nolan” if that makes sense. 11. OPPENHEIMER - I love this film. 8.9/10. And this isn’t normally a type of film I gush over but the way he told the story was compelling to me plus acting and visuals are fantastic. I don’t think it is his most rewatchable film for me which is why it’s down here but I still think it’s excellent film. 12. FOLLOWING - Admire what he did here as a fan of Nolan’s but since it’s a student film don’t really have a desire to rewatch. Critical: 1. Oppenheimer - I think this is his best directed and most complete film I’ve ever seen from him. It’s a masterful film in my opinion. 2. Dunkirk - even though the story is not the forefront here I think on a filmmaking basis, this is one of his best achievements 3. Inception - One of his best character stories mixed with the concept 4. TDK - Fantastic crime film that changed the genre 5. Prestige - The acting and the story here are immaculate 6. Insomnia - Great acting and story. His most underrated film. 7. Begins - awesome acting and performances. Only area I knock it is action scenes 8. Interstellar - most emotional story that aids amazing visuals. I only put it this low because the last 5 minutes I think was too much like a perfectly wrapped gift but overall a great film. 9. Memento - great concept and acting. Only area I “knock” it - I don’t think it’s his best helmed film as a filmmaker. It’s one of his better films as a storyteller but I think cinematography wise it’s just not on the level with the others in my opinion. 10. Tenet - love the concept and the visuals - amazes me every single time. And I am a huge sucker for spy films too. I also think this movie gets too much hate. Why it’s down here is just cos it’s a movie about the spectacle and not the characters. I am okay with that and love the film nonetheless but as far as a critical review that’s why it’s down here for me. 11. TDKR - I love this film and while I think it gets unnecessary hate similar to TENET I do agree that it’s his sloppiest screenplay. I love the emotions here and how it all wraps up from Begins but script wise it could’ve been better as far as the conveniences 12. Following - it’s a student film essentially and it shows IMO. I think it’s commendable for what he had but I don’t think it’s on the level of these other films. I am a diehard Nolan fan and love all these movies on this list but this is how I grade his work. Love him as a filmmaker
1. The Dark Knight & Insomnia (I know it’s cheating but I don’t care) 2. Dunkirk 3. Batman Begins 4. The Prestige 5. Oppenheimer 6. Inception 7. Memento 8. The Dark Knight Rises 9. Following 10. Interstellar 11. Tenet I agree all these movies aren’t bad, just what worked the most for you. Tenet doesn’t work as much for me in my opinion, and if you guys haven’t revisited Insomnia, I highly recommend revisiting it. It’s so underrated in my opinion. Robin Williams is delightfully evil.
1. The Dark Knight 2. Inception 3. The Prestige 4. Interstellar 5. Oppenheimer 6. Momento 7. Batman Begins 8. The Dark Knight Rises 9. Dunkirk 10. Insomnia 11. Following 12. Tenet
Amazing work as always, I swear ranking Christopher Nolans movies is like saying do you prefer your friends or family it's so damn difficult, that's just shows you how amazing Christopher Nolan is 12. Tenet: Exactly what you said, a movie that was so frustrating when I first saw it, then I bought it and liked it more, watched it again and it frustrated me again🤣, concept is great but he goes way to high with his execution 3/5 11. Following: It is kinda bias to put this movie so low for being his first technical film that caused pennies to make, but if I'm in the mood for a Nolan movie, I'm going to this one last 3/5 10. Dunkirk: A movie that Nolan absolutely executed with what he's going for, love the cinematography, score, and it is intense, but what's makes a war movie tick... Soul, passion, and heart, and this lacks all 3 of those 3.5/5 9. The Dark Knight Rises: Competes with Tenet for his most frustrating movie, so many great things in here but he executes his ambition way higher than what it actually needs to be, and WAY to much going on 3.25/5 8. Interstellar: Easily his most emotional film, amazing effects, amazing acting, score, cinematography, and tension, but like you said, does loose me a little bit in the last 10 minutes 4/5 7. Oppenheimer: I was just glued to the screen the entire time when watching this, and it has everything you want from a Nolan movie, couple flaws do hold down just a little bit, but one I was just engaged with and really appreciate it 4.5/5 6. Memento: This one to a weird certain degree is Nolans most haunting and nostalgic movie, something about it just has that feel to it with the music, the early 2000s style to it, and Nolans early style, definitely early Nolan ambition that I just love 4.25/5 5. Insomnia: honestly, barely anything negative I have to say about this, no where near his most original movie but one that sticks with you no matter what 4.25/5 4. The Dark Knight: Another one that I absolutely agree with, love it and one of the best out there, but damn can we talk about a different comic book movie please! 4.25/5 3. Batman: Begins: My favorite Batman movie, feels like Batman and stays like that, and it just has such a great origin story in there that I just love 4.25/5 2. The Prestige: This one has the same feelings with Memento, and probably Nolans most engaging movie, adore this movie 5/5 1. Inception: Everything you said about it are exactly my thoughs 5/5
Cody how are you? Hope you & you're family are doing well. Bro I've seen you're podcast interview & understood how hard you worked to get to the current situation & I respect u for that.
I’ll only rank the ones I’ve seen, so since I still have yet to watch Following, my ranking would be this: 11. Insomnia (great film but I’ve only seen it once) 10. Tenet 9. The Dark Knight Rises 8. The Prestige 7. Batman Begins 6. Dunkirk 5. Interstellar 4. Inception 3. Oppenheimer 2. The Dark Knight 1. Memento
Inception is probably the only movie where a director had a concept that actually worked and was original in a way. Its one of the best movies ever made.
Love this list. Definitely agree with The Dark Knight points you made because I also find it massively overrated despite it being a great movie. Also agree with your placement of Dunkirk, Dark Knight Rises, Oppenheimer, Tenet and The Prestige. Interstellar is my favorite because I love movies about space exploration
My rankings (rating it out of 10 because for me it's more diverse) and I'll also say what my favorite part of the movie is. Also I haven't seen insomnia or following yet 1. Interstellar (btw just so everyone knows this is my favorite movie ever), one of the greatest scores I've ever heard and i think Nolan's best, also very emotional and some of the best visuals I've seen AND an amazing story. It might be slightly biased because i love space but this is all just my opinion (10/10) 2. The Dark Knight, greatest villain ever in a comic book movie in my opinion but also almost every major character brings there A game here (10/10) 3. Inception, i think the best overall story out of all these movies, also the second best visuals of any of his movies behind interstellar (9.5/10) 4. Oppenheimer, im a movie nerd so the technical aspects of this movie is some of the best I've ever seen, the acting from our main characters is some of the best if not the best of these movie (9/10) 5. The prestige, the dynamic between the 2 main characters is so good, and also i think the best twist out of any of these movies (9/10) 6. Tenet, ik this probably isn't a popular opinion but i think it being still a little confusing to me is a good thing because i always want to go back and watch more, the look of this movie I've always loved too and even though confusing still at times i love the time travel aspect (8.5/10) 7. Batman begins, the best origin story ever next to spider man, Gotham looked it's best and gordan was at his best here, not saying he was ever bad but he was at his best here in my opinion (8.5/10) 8. Dunkirk, i think it lacks character development but the story is so good to me that it still is a very good movie, I've always loved how different this movie feels compared to other way movies (7.5/10) 9. Memento, the story is amazing and guy pierce (sorry if i spelled it wrong) is amazing but i never really loved any of the other performances in this movie, none are bad but I don't think it's all that great either, the story is really good so it's still a pretty good rating for me (7/10) 10. The Dark Knight Rises, the last act and ending is amazing but i think the rest of the movie is ok at best, bane is amazing but I've never been a fan of the twist towards the end because it felt forced to me (6.5/10)
That’s a great ranking. Unfortunately my ranking is pretty generic with the exception that I have Insomnia at 4. 1. The Dark Knight 2. Oppenheimer 3. Inception 4. Insomnia 5. Dunkirk 6. The Dark Knight Rises 7. Memento 8. Interstellar 9. The Prestige 10. Batman Begins 11. Following 12. Tenet
The thing about the audio is that Nolan mixes it for the best sound systems at the best cinemas, rather than the Majority of cinemas. So if you're at a really good cinema with a top of the line sound system, the audio should be really good. But if you're in a more low end cinema, it won't sound very good. Basically it's a compromise. Might want to look into the quality of your local cinemas. I'd definitely recommend 15/70 IMAX, if you're in range of one of the few 70mm IMAX cinemas in the world.
I think what people need to acknowledge is that this is YOUR favourite films. I completely understand you putting Oppenheimer that low seeing as you are not a history buff or someone who enjoys those kind of movies. Me personally, I love them so I can put them higher
For me: 1. Oppenheimer 2. Inception 3. The Dark Knight 4. Batman Begins 5. The Prestige 6. Insomnia 7. The Dark Knight Rises 8. Memento 9. Interstellar 10. Tenet 11. Dunkirk 12. Following
Great lineup, Cody! I also prefer Batman Begins, and have since the night I first saw it. I was lucky enough to be invited by the manager of my local theatre to see it with the crew there the night before it premiered. SO, they ran the audio like CONCERT level and it was amazing! Explosions concussed into my chest! The score...the pace, the images....how can any of the others compare. But, your Nolan order is sublime, and I like it. Begins is my favorite, but yeah, Inception was a dang great piece of work! Good list!
18:08-19:15 I totally understand where you’re coming from 100%. I get that The Dark Knight is a really well done movie but the overexposure of it always gets on my nerves as well as Halloween (I get its iconic but it isn’t the only slasher movie that’s great) and a personal one for me is Predator 87. I understand people really like that one but I can’t get behind that with is okay since everyone is allowed to have an opinion
18:07 That’s why I think I prefer The Dark Knight Rises over The Dark Knight. Both are great, but I’ve gotten into heated arguments with my friends who insist that TDK is the best ever and TDKR is trash. I need to rewatch them but looking back, that is very true. It’s great that someone shares a similar opinion.
Nice! I pretty much agree with everything! Batman Begins is great!! I much prefer it to the Dark Knight just because it breathes more and doesn't get so bogged down in it's various concepts. DK often seems stilted by comparison and explains what it's doing out loud, especially in it's opening and closing acts. Batman Begins may have flaws but it just seems more enjoyable to me.
We are in so much agreement in regards to the Batman movies. BB might have the smallest scope of the 3 films, but its a Batman movie through and through. I admit that I havent seen any of his movies since Rises, but I think I mostly prefer his smaller scale movies than his larger ones. Batman Begins The Prestige Insomnia The Dark Knight Memento Inception The Dark Knight Rises
What's up Cody!? Love the channel man... That is a fantastic shirt by the way... where can I get one of those bad boys!? Fred was always the one who scared me as a kid and always my favorite. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Ah man Tenet at 10, you almost lost me. The temporal pincer maneuver is such an incredibly interesting plot device and I find this to be one of Nolan's most rewatchable movies because you can discover something new each time. I would love a sequel showing more of the protagonist and Neil's adventures.
Your point on the greatest CBM of all time is tough. It should be "what is your favorite" but then most folks would get too personal with it and mention Guardians or Iron Man 3, so it is a tough one. I think its just best to say S tier CBM's, not a whole lot should be there, and the stipulation would be "which movies are S tier" which again leads to "personal opinions" plus everyone on the internet wanting to put their two cents in. I cant tell you which Batman movie was better, for me its like debating if SM1 or SM2 was better than the other. They're both great, and i would put them on the S tier.
Same, I didn’t necessarily feel the imminent danger. Yes, there were some scenes where they were clearly in danger but when they were on the beach, it looked like they were just waiting, not on edge.
@@azisokleftis Nah...you didn't see anything of the fierce fighting surrounding and inside Dunkirk, the massive numbers of civilian boats and ships used for the evacuation weren't really present in the movie, there were more aerial battles than the 3 Spitfires and couple of German planes that you saw in the movie, the German invaders themselves...you don't see them in the movie, etc. The whole scale of this massive evacuation operation was just not present in the movie. Maybe the Dunkirk-movie from the 50s captures this better. I don't know yet, haven't seen this movie.
@@1977Eelco Fair enough, I saw the criticisms later, for example the emphasis on the role the little boats played on the evacuation. But I still rate it, the cinephile in me and it was released at a point in time where I was rejecting the overuse of CGI.
I dont know if I’ve ever seen someone else rank Batman begins higher than Dark Knight 😅Cody and I are unicorns! 🦄 🦇 Begins is the only BATMAN movie! 21:34
Anyone ever notice that the protagonist in his movies is almost always a man haunted by something (usually the death of a wife)? The exception is Dunkirk.
Batman Begins is my favorite of the trilogy too!!! It’s an actual Batman film it kicks so much ass. It also has the best Gotham in Nolan’s trilogy which isn’t saying much because I’ve always hated his Gotham. The Prestige is my favorite Nolan film and Inception is my 2nd.
I’m with you, Cody. Inception is SO rewatchable…so good, so perfect. And, lOppenheimer, for me, was something I might watch once more when it comes to streaming, but only because I’m a history buff. Definitely not his best, in my opinion.
1. The Dark Knight A+ 2. Inception A+ 3. The Prestige A+ 4. Memento A+ 5. Oppenheimer A+ 6. Dunkirk A+ 7. Batman Begins A 8. Insomnia A- 9. Interstellar A- 10. The Dark Knight Rises A- 11. Tenet B TDK and Inception can switch places at any given moment depending on my mood. I still have to see Following.
Can’t believe there’s dc fans that want a multiverse film with the Nolan Batman films. They’re more grounded in reality and would feel so weird and awkward.
I’ve never seen Inception… For me it’s usually horror or the latest animation at the theatre with my daughter (which I secretly love) Will look to watch Inception over the weekend if Cody gives it a thumbs up 👍
Even though I rarely agree with your rankings appreciate your perspectives. I rewatched Inception tonight and it is a crazy concept but the ending was a bit too melodramatic and drawn out. The Prestige is definitely my #1. What an incredible film!
I'm actually with you on the Dark Knight man. The movie is an all time, stone cold classic, but I prefer a few other films to it overall. Here is my list - I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet but I feel your explanation of the war genre is perfectly in line with mine so I assume it will be in the Tenet range for me as well. I also haven't seen Following but I am ok with that. I may watch it someday though. 1) Inception 2) Batman Begins 3) The Prestige 4) The Dark Knight 5) Interstellar 6) Memento 7) The Dark Knight Rises 8) Tenet 9) Insomnia 10) Dunkirk
I agree about Batman Begins being above TDK. TDK is fucking incredible, and has many moments and aspects that are better (Heath Ledger being an obvious one). But every time i watch BB, I'm reminded just how perfect that movie is. Also Christian Bale's Batman voice in TDK seems to bother me more and more each time i watch it.
Wow! I agree with this list. Tenet, Oppenheimer, Dunkirk, all lack clear character motivation, or emotional grounding to the plot. They are all technically amazing, I find I don’t care about their protagonists. And Batman Begins and The Prestige are tops in my books too. They have held up so well.
I like war movies, but Dunkirk didn't work for me either. I'd never watch it again. It was impossible for me to get immersed into it. Inception is my favorite too. Thinking about it makes me want to watch it again.

Great ranking. I'd put Tenet higher. Good to see a reviewer not caught up in the oppenheimer hype. The love this movie is getting is becoming ridiculous!
Spitting facts. One of the only critics on RUclips that actually makes up their own opinion. A very refreshing voice, thanks for great videos Cody.
The others are forced?
@@crooster1 the vast majority are on the latest bandwagon trend, not Cody

I believe The Dark Knight is the best comic book film still today.
😐
It's not even the best Nolan Batman, which isn't even the best Batman movie, which isn't even the best comic book movie.
@patton2773 My preference is Batman Begins, TDKR then TDK. Best Batman movie for me is either Batman Returns or Lego Batman. My go to comic book movies are Blade, X2, Logan and Hellboy
I feel the world has enough unnecessary controversy in it, why add more.
Loving the high placement of Insomnia, awesome movie. Much better than some of Nolan’s most celebrated movies.
I honestly just wanted to hear him talk about insomnia.
Huge respect for putting out a ranking 90% of people are going to attack you for and not being afraid in the slightest
@@AntLeonardi01someone's gonna attack you just for disagreeing with using the word "attack"
Kudos to him. The fact that so many people would attack him over it is pathetic on those very people though. Opinions are to be valued, not molded.

Great video man!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the love for Insomnia. I love Pacino and Robin Williams' performances and yeah, it feels like it's been unfairly ignored

It helps that a character study is a lot more digestible than an unfocused anthology format.
Dunkirk also was low for me..and I love war movies ....I just watched Oppenheimer and it is fantastic...each character I felt their own personal struggle with their responsibility....great performances ...in a way the movie reminds me of a blend of
There will be blood and
Goodnight and Good luck...

In 2008 we also got Punisher War Zone and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army were the same year as well though both didn’t get talked about as much as Iron Man and Dark Knight until years later
In the last 15 years since The Dark Knight, we’ve had some great comic book movies that need to be talked about more which is why The Batman 2022 was interesting to talk to others about in terms of whether it lives up to it.
I think Heath Ledger’s death contributed to the flaws in Rises. You can’t convince me that Joker wasn’t supposed to be included in the 3rd film.
Here are my Top 5 Favorite Chrisopher Nolan Films
5. Memento-This isn’t one that I rewatch a whole lot, but that doesn’t stop this movie from being an incredible achievement in cinema that makes for an amazing first and second watches
4. Interstellar-While I don’t 100% buy into the third act, upon rewatching this movie again last week, I got quite a bit more invested this movie than I ever had because of its ability to be very emotion and thought provoking at the same time
3. Inception-Objectively, this is Nolan’s masterpiece because of its amazing special effects, fantastic cast, memorable set pieces, big ideas, great journey for DiCaprio, and its ability to be incredibly intelligent while never being indulgent
2. Batman Begins-In my mind, this is the definitive origin story for my all time favorite superhero because it’s able to be very true to the Bruce Wayne/Batman character while having Nolan’s storytelling, aesthetics, and ideas
Enjoyment:
1. TENET - Love the concept and the spectacle even if the storyline is very complicated. Think it gets unnecessary shit on.
2. TDK - great action, story and great performances.
3. INCEPTION - love the concept and emotionality w/h story
4. TDKR - Despite contrivances I still really enjoy this film and like TENET I think it gets unnecessary hate
5. BATMAN BEGINS - Love the story here and how it changed the comic book genre.
6. MEMENTO - Love the concept and performances but like Cody it’s a film that I get a bit impatient with repeat viewings
Critical:
1. Oppenheimer - I think this is his best directed and most complete film I’ve ever seen from him. It’s a masterful film in my opinion.
2. Dunkirk - even though the story is not the forefront here I think on a filmmaking basis, this is one of his best achievements
3. Inception - One of his best character stories mixed with the concept
4. TDK - Fantastic crime film that changed the genre
5. Prestige - The acting and the story here are immaculate
6. Insomnia - Great acting and story. His most underrated film.
7. Begins - awesome acting and performances. Only area I knock it is action scenes
I love the emotions here and how it all wraps up from Begins but script wise it could’ve been better as far as the conveniences
12. Following - it’s a student film essentially and it shows IMO. I think it’s commendable for what he had but I don’t think it’s on the level of these other films.
I am a diehard Nolan fan and love all these movies on this list but this is how I grade his work. Love him as a filmmaker

Amazing work as always, I swear ranking Christopher Nolans movies is like saying do you prefer your friends or family it's so damn difficult, that's just shows you how amazing Christopher Nolan is
12. Tenet: Exactly what you said, a movie that was so frustrating when I first saw it, then I bought it and liked it more, watched it again and it frustrated me again🤣, concept is great but he goes way to high with his execution 3/5
11. Following: It is kinda bias to put this movie so low for being his first technical film that caused pennies to make, but if I'm in the mood for a Nolan movie, I'm going to this one last 3/5
10. Dunkirk: A movie that Nolan absolutely executed with what he's going for, love the cinematography, score, and it is intense, but what's makes a war movie tick... Soul, passion, and heart, and this lacks all 3 of those 3.5/5
9. The Dark Knight Rises: Competes with Tenet for his most frustrating movie, so many great things in here but he executes his ambition way higher than what it actually needs to be, and WAY to much going on 3.25/5
8. Interstellar: Easily his most emotional film, amazing effects, amazing acting, score, cinematography, and tension, but like you said, does loose me a little bit in the last 10 minutes 4/5
7. Oppenheimer: I was just glued to the screen the entire time when watching this, and it has everything you want from a Nolan movie, couple flaws do hold down just a little bit, but one I was just engaged with and really appreciate it 4.5/5
6. Memento: This one to a weird certain degree is Nolans most haunting and nostalgic movie, something about it just has that feel to it with the music, the early 2000s style to it, and Nolans early style, definitely early Nolan ambition that I just love 4.25/5
5. Insomnia: honestly, barely anything negative I have to say about this, no where near his most original movie but one that sticks with you no matter what 4.25/5
4. The Dark Knight: Another one that I absolutely agree with, love it and one of the best out there, but damn can we talk about a different comic book movie please! 4.25/5
3. Batman: Begins: My favorite Batman movie, feels like Batman and stays like that, and it just has such a great origin story in there that I just love 4.25/5
2. The Prestige: This one has the same feelings with Memento, and probably Nolans most engaging movie, adore this movie 5/5
1. Inception: Everything you said about it are exactly my thoughs 5/5
Thank god someone else who agrees the dark knight, as good as it is, isn’t the end all be all of comic book movies
Super pleased you put the Dark Knight where you did. I actually let out a sigh of relief.
Time is one of the greatest piece of music ever made
I rarely rewatch anything, so rewatchability would never be on my list when criticizing a movie.

Also I haven't seen insomnia or following yet
1. Interstellar (btw just so everyone knows this is my favorite movie ever), one of the greatest scores I've ever heard and i think Nolan's best, also very emotional and some of the best visuals I've seen AND an amazing story. It might be slightly biased because i love space but this is all just my opinion (10/10)
2. The Dark Knight, greatest villain ever in a comic book movie in my opinion but also almost every major character brings there A game here (10/10)
3. Inception, i think the best overall story out of all these movies, also the second best visuals of any of his movies behind interstellar (9.5/10)
4. Oppenheimer, im a movie nerd so the technical aspects of this movie is some of the best I've ever seen, the acting from our main characters is some of the best if not the best of these movie (9/10)
5. The prestige, the dynamic between the 2 main characters is so good, and also i think the best twist out of any of these movies (9/10)
6. Tenet, ik this probably isn't a popular opinion but i think it being still a little confusing to me is a good thing because i always want to go back and watch more, the look of this movie I've always loved too and even though confusing still at times i love the time travel aspect (8.5/10)
7. Batman begins, the best origin story ever next to spider man, Gotham looked it's best and gordan was at his best here, not saying he was ever bad but he was at his best here in my opinion (8.5/10)
8. Dunkirk, i think it lacks character development but the story is so good to me that it still is a very good movie, I've always loved how different this movie feels compared to other way movies (7.5/10)
9. Memento, the story is amazing and guy pierce (sorry if i spelled it wrong) is amazing but i never really loved any of the other performances in this movie, none are bad but I don't think it's all that great either, the story is really good so it's still a pretty good rating for me (7/10)
10. The Dark Knight Rises, the last act and ending is amazing but i think the rest of the movie is ok at best, bane is amazing but I've never been a fan of the twist towards the end because it felt forced to me (6.5/10)

My favorite Nolan movies are _Batman Begins_ & _The Dark Knight Rises._

Great lineup, Cody! I also prefer Batman Begins, and have since the night I first saw it. Explosions concussed into my chest! The score...the pace, the images....how can any of the others compare. But, your Nolan order is sublime, and I like it. Begins is my favorite, but yeah, Inception was a dang great piece of work! Good list!

I totally understand where you’re coming from 100%.

That’s why I think I prefer The Dark Knight Rises over The Dark Knight. Both are great, but I’ve gotten into heated arguments with my friends who insist that TDK is the best ever and TDKR is trash. I need to rewatch them but looking back, that is very true. It’s great that someone shares a similar opinion.
I love how Cody saying is not a war movie guy and then name 3 war movies starring or directed by Mel Gibson! I love those movie too
I didn't even notice that but maybe I'm just a fan of Mel Gibson movies hahaha
@@CodyLeachYT please give us a Mel Gibson list Cody! I would love that!
@@CodyLeachYT Do you like Saving Private Ryan? In my opinion it's the greatest war movie ever made.
Batman Begins
The Prestige
Insomnia
The Dark Knight
Memento
Inception
The Dark Knight Rises
Tenet is actually up there for me but your right I haven’t had a desire to watch it again
I still have not seen Oppenheimer yet. I NEED to see it.
100% agree with you on TDK. I would have Batman Begins above it as well.
That time theme, I played like 3 times in a row. Gets my emotions
Great ranking Cody I appreciate it
Your point on the greatest CBM of all time is tough.
The thing that bothered me the most about "Dunkirk"...the scale of the evacuation operation wasn't really present in the movie.
Same, I didn’t necessarily feel the imminent danger. Yes, there were some scenes where they were clearly in danger but when they were on the beach, it looked like they were just waiting, not on edge.
I thought it captured dread and helplessness beautifully.
Great ranking! My fav Nolan top 3 (any order) Insomnia, Inception and The Prestige. 😌😌😌
R.I.P Heath
I’m with you, Cody. Inception is SO rewatchable…so good, so perfect. And, lOppenheimer, for me, was something I might watch once more when it comes to streaming, but only because I’m a history buff. Definitely not his best, in my opinion.
1. The Dark Knight A+
2. Inception A+
3. The Prestige A+
4. Memento A+
5. Oppenheimer A+
6. Dunkirk A+
7. Batman Begins A
8. Insomnia A-
9. Interstellar A-
10. The Dark Knight Rises A-
11. Tenet B
TDK and Inception can switch places at any given moment depending on my mood. I still have to see Following.
Can’t believe there’s dc fans that want a multiverse film with the Nolan Batman films. They’re more grounded in reality and would feel so weird and awkward.
yassss, been waiting on this
Cody never disappoint!
I’ve never seen Inception…
For me it’s usually horror or the latest animation at the theatre with my daughter (which I secretly love)
Will look to watch Inception over the weekend if Cody gives it a thumbs up 👍
Interstellar will always be my favourite. Matthew gives one hell of an performance. Almost just amazing movies here. Great ranking brother
Haven't seen Oppenheimer yet. My top 3:
1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman Begins
3. Inception
Even though I rarely agree with your rankings appreciate your perspectives. I rewatched Inception tonight and it is a crazy concept but the ending was a bit too melodramatic and drawn out. The Prestige is definitely my #1. What an incredible film!
Digging the Batman begins and prestige love. Good list
1) Inception
2) Batman Begins
3) The Prestige
4) The Dark Knight
5) Interstellar
6) Memento
7) The Dark Knight Rises
8) Tenet
9) Insomnia
10) Dunkirk
Dunkirk at last place? Guess that just shows how amazing Nolan is.
Very good points on each ranking but I totally disagree with you on Dunkirk, but hey! Thats the beauty of being a movie fan.
My list:
1-Interstellar - my personal GOAT
2-Inception
3-The Prestige
4-Dark Knight Rises
5-Dark Knight
6-Memento
7-Insomnia
8-Batman Begins
9-Tenet
10-Dunkirk
-Oppenheimer - haven’t seen
-Following - haven’t seen
The Prestige might be number 1… awesome film!
Hire some security for your Dark Knight placement 😂... and I just learned that Insomnia is a Nolan film, way underrated
Insomnia is a remake?
Yep!
I like war movies, but Dunkirk didn't work for me either. I'd never watch it again. It was impossible for me to get immersed into it. Inception is my favorite too. Thinking about it makes me want to watch it again.
My ranking for now
11. Memento
10. Following
9. Inception
8. Insomnia
7. Tenet
6. The prestige
5. Dunkirk
4. Interstellar
3. Batman begins
2. The Dark Knight
1. The dark knight Rises
Loving the freddie t shirt!!!!!
Only watched interstellar last night and being a dad that hasnt seen my 5yr old daughter since xmas i cried tons.great film and one of the best score.def up there with inception prestige and the batman trilogy
I LOVE that you love The Prestige! One of my favorite movies (and better then the book)
Great ranking. I'd put Tenet higher. Good to see a reviewer not caught up in the oppenheimer hype. The love this movie is getting is becoming ridiculous!
Yea it’s needs more hate right? Cmon what’s happening is great for movies.
@@kingfadal4711 who said it needs more hate?
Top 5 IMO from my alltime favorite director.
1)Inception
2)Memento
3)The Dark Knight
4)Oppenheimer
5)Interstellar
