  • Hello everyone and welcome to my channel!
In this video, I will be carrying out a synchronization of the starter valves on my 2003 Honda VFR800 VTEC.
This is a job that is necessary to promote smooth idle as it directly affects the amount of air that is drawn into each cylinder and allows us to adjust each one so that they all draw the same.
In the video I use a Digisync digital manometer to do the job, however a traditional mercury manometer or dial gauge can also be used to achieve the same result.
Get your own Digisync tool at the link below, available in 2, 4 or 6 channel versions.
    amzn.to/3gE1L4L
Alternatively, if you prefer, the dial gauge can be found at a much lower price point at the link below.

Brand new silicone tubing to replace all of the nasty rubber hoses can be found at the link below.

As promised, the link to the video demonstrating fault code reading and deletion can be found below, Enjoy!

Good video; thanks! I first tried to do this job using my Haynes manual. When I finished, the bike idled like a bag of spanners. After watching your video, I discovered that Haynes forgets to mention that after disconnecting the flapper valve you have to blank off the connecting hose. So that's twice today I've done the job! Always easier the second time though, and now the bike is idling so much smoother.

Really appreciate your systematic approach to vfr800 maintenance. You already have covered most of the maintenance topics on those bikes. When synchronising you should really keep an eye on the rpm as values tend to change with change of rpm. For best results you should lower the idle rpm to 1200 and check again.

Great video! I attempted this job and mid way through the tape plugging the crank ventilator blasted off. I turned off the bike and replugged it. Ever since the bike won't crank over. Starter solenoid just rapidly clicks. No idea what happened between me turning the bike off and back on. Put it all back together and now instead of a bike running better the bike doesn't run at all. Best part is because I was fiddling with the idle and one of the cylinders when it blew the tape the idle will be even worse than before when i get it running. I love bikes.

Hey Kev, did you notice an improvement in the throttle snatchiness after this?

Another point which I noticed you do too, wait until the fuel level is low (or go for a good ride until it's low), makes lifting and moving the fuel tank much easier. I've just bought an E Tune unit which is between the cheaper analogue gages and the Digi Sync. Curious to see how it performs doing my 5th gen starter valves.

Hi Kev, great video. I recently bought a low mileage (8,500 mi) project bike that has been sitting a few years. Its a 2001 5th gen VFR and there is no fuel getting to the left cylinders, the plugs are dry and the right cylinder plugs are wet. Is this a common issue with these bikes, anything obvious I should be looking for? The ecm gives two flashes indicating a MAP issue. Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

Kev, How long would you say each of the vacuum hoses is and how much would you need in total to replace them?

kev thinking of doing this as im experiencing the idle cutting kind of blowing its self out after a short blip on the throttle wile driving normally idle is good but once up to temp and a blast and return to idle its lumpy and i have to try and keep it running not not always just sometimes does this sound like its sync is out
