  • This video explains what the starter valves on a Honda VFR800 do, and why only three of them can be adjusted. This is specific to a 6th-generation (2002+) VFR800 but is also relevant for the 5th-generation bikes, even though their throttle bodies are different in appearance and design.

    A very good video explaining the in and outs of the starter valves. You now have one more subscriber.

    Another good vid. I was going to start my 6th gen T-body swap this weekend but with temps hitting 110F, I stayed in side like a little girl.

    Exactly the info I was looking for. Thank you.

    They are static and only for idle speed. The only adjustment is by the screw adjuster or by the fast idle wax unit, which is itself just a temperature controlled idle screw. Both of these affect the idle adjuster plate only. The plate is attached to the valves, and the valves are only used to allow air into the engine when the throttles are closed.

    Good explanation. Non-adjustable cylinder is #1 I believe, not #4

    Can you address my question on why you set all to same vacuum on your balance post? Again, maybe a difference between your gen and my 99?

    Great video and thanks for posting!I have the problem described at 6:09. No adjustment on the idle screw; but my issue is that I can't increase the idle speed. I think I screwed up my starter valve synch last week; the readings appear to be in synch but I must have over-turned the adjustment screws because the bike is idling between 1000 and 1100...to slow. What exactly are you turning on the screws? They pull out but I can't tell what is actually makes the adjustment?

      they are threaded somehow. it's been a while since I owned this bike but I would suggest pulling on each piston and cleaning the air galleries out with brake cleaner for starters.

      Thanks, I'll give that a shot too.  I admit that I went a bit wild turning the screws without much understanding of what they did.  I was going by the premise of righty-tighty lefty-loosey and trying to line up the dials from the manometer.My results weren't completely bad as I have smoother response but I smell more exhaust, slow idle and no idle positive adjustment...

    what effect would removing those butterfly plates in the throttle bodies cause.

    • @treschlet
      @treschlet 9 лет назад

      MsOldfart1 The effect would be the same as taping your throttle wide open and having no ability to close it. The only thing your throttle does is open those butterfly plates to allow more air into the engine.

    How do you balance the throttle bodies?
    I'm guessing they would need balancing before the air bleeds can be synchronised.

      The air bleeds *are* the throttle body balance. The throttle plates themselves are not adjustable.

    I washed the injection body with spray cleaner, and my motorcycle does not start, I have to accelerate to keep it going, and sometimes it shuts down, what can I do, thanks and greetings from Mexico.

      You've probably just got a vacuum leak now. Maybe you forgot to reconnect one of the vacuum lines, or one has split.

    Sorry to bust your bubble, but it really really is cylinder #4 which is non-adjustable. At least on 2002+ onwards, which is the only experience I have.

    Kal why will my 6th gen idle but die if I try to twist the throttle, even a little?

    • @KaldekBoch
      @KaldekBoch  4 года назад

      Could be lots of reasons. Do you have any FI error lights?

      @@KaldekBoch I did have 1,8,9 yesterday, but would have to erase them and check again. As the bike has sat around for a long time I think there's every chance the reed valves and injectors are clogged. It only fires if I squirt Start Ya Bastard down the throat. The last owner says he cleaned the throttle body but not the injectors and that it revved freely. I had it running with MAP disconnected, putting it back on has made no difference. Btw. Your explanations are the most susscinct and knowledable I have found on RUclips. Thank you, I feel confident to pull the injectors out...carefully!

      Kal, no fault light showing. The pugs looked cactus, so I invested the $140 in new and Hey Presto!. Now it idles and revs cleanly, but the coolant overflow is pumping out boiling juice and an oil light is on. It's not low on oil. Making headway. Keep up the great vids man.
