Thanks for watching! The PS5 used in this video was a donor console previously used by other technicians (which is why you might not see the antenna’s attached etc). 😊 If the video helped, please considering subscribing to the channel 😊
If anyone has smoked (Tobacco or weed) and played their PS5... everything will have a layer of sticky residue that won't allow you to simply vacuum or wipe the dust away. Get a big bottle of 99% Isopropyl alcohol and a lot of qtips.
Thanks for the video! I cleaned mine a while ago just by taking the front and back panels off. I was trying to figure out why it sounded like a jet engine when I initially turned it on, I figured it was clogged. It was a little dusty but nothing terrible so I did a quick clean. Turns out it was loud because of the vibration from the fan echoing in the entertainment center. 😂 This will help when I feel brave enough to do a deep cleaning.
I use a Maketa Dust Blower and shoot air back through the exhaust. It is essentially a handheld leaf blower. I also run my consoles in a room with Air Purification, eliminates the need to deep clean my electronics.
@@ChrizzyGotAFatGlizzy I am also interested to know. Mine randomly shut down and didn't wanna come back on mid game. Had to unplug it and hold the power button just long enough for it to beep then blue flashing lights for about 20 seconds before turning on. I did clean and blow it out before hooking it up originally, but it could have dust deep within it I didn't know about.
I recommend a small set of needle nose pliers to pull the clips out. Pulling actual wires could result in a potentially bad connection due to the wire possibility coming out of the connector.
If anyone is doing a lot of repairs or cleaning of electronics, I highly recommend an electric air duster. Using cans of compressed air is fine for personal use but can get expensive over time for anyone needing them frequently. Electric air dusters have higher pressure than called air.
I was having the issue where my ps5 would just shut off after 10min of play with only ps5 games. I followed you video on taking my ps5 apart and cleaning the power supply and the heat sinks. Now my ps5 doesn't shut off after long periods of play. Thanks! I really appreciate your video! 👍👍👍
wow I had issues until this video shed light on some thing I didnt know about. Thank to my nephews small tiny fingers and my capacity of following instructions. AND THANK YOU JDT!!!! you are the GOAT. ( greatest of all technicians ) BAMMMMMM!
Thanks Joey, my gradson had a noisy PS5 which was shutting down. Followed you steps very carefully as it's a potentially expensive learning curve, but all went well. Cannot believe the amount of dust, hairs that had built up on the large heat sinks - definately worth going through the whole process. The ribbon cable was slightly different to the ones shown, they had a metal plate that you had to push back to release the cable. That was really awkward. The one attached to the hard drive actually snapped off when bending it back, but luckily we fitted the ribben cable back and held it place with some gaffer tape. That seemed to hold and the PS5 is now quiet and not overheating. Job done! A great guide, our thanks .... the only expense was buying a T8Torque bit lol.
Great to hear Stephen! Thank you for using and following the guide 😊 I've worked on a few hundred PS5's now in total, and I don't think I've come across a different ribbon cable method to the ones I've shown in here. I'm sure the 1000, 1100 and 1200 series all have the same connector, in which you push down to release the ribbon cable. Feel free to join the Discord and upload some pictures so we can take a look 😁

Thanks for the tutorial, I was going to do it myself but I think it'd be better if I take it in for a professional to do it. Still want to thank you for saving me the trouble on what I would have to do.
I'm still kind of weary about taking my PS5 digital apart like that, but I have had it nearly 3 years and so I know I will need to do a deep clean instead of a normal clean like I have been doing every so often. I am getting the "Your PS5 is too hot" message every once in a while but it's not happening all the time and not with every game. So far it's only happened twice for me within a year. I am weary to take it to a game shop as I live in Thailand, but I might have to do that and pay for a deep clean as I watch. First I will try it myself with the help of your video.
Hi - this worked for me - but interestingly, all my screws inside the PS5 are TT9, not TT8. The guarantee seal was not broken, and this was bought as new, so I supposed Sony changed this??
I bought the precision Torx last time by accident rather than the precision security Torx so I basically wasted my money, need to make sure I get the security one this time

It does when you actually temove warrenty sticker and go deep into the console i would say anything you start screwing off isa risk just take off the sideplates and clean it that way thebfirst year
Hi. Nice thorough tutorial! I have a question though. I just had a sudden shutdown while playing due to dust buildup. I did some cleaning and vacuuming the heatsinks by only removing the fan. Do you think that should be enough or do I need to disassemble everything like you did? Obviously I wasn't able to remove all dust this way
Not sure if you figured this out, but I will weigh in for anyone that needs this still. I had the same issue. I removed the fan and cleaned that... it was very dirty, but got it all sorted - or so I thought. Put the fan back in and within an hour, my system shut off again. It's recommended, and it's not that hard. Xbox x is also the same. U should clean both systems. They make it simple . But you shouldn't wait 3 years to clean. Every couple of months you should clean it. Sony did a video on how to clean the ps5. The ps4 version was harder, but this time, it's much easier. You can find a tool set for electronics at Best Buy or a hardware store. You can do this. i have faith in you . I wasn't sure at all either, but it also helps with watching videos on the right way to do it so you're not spending money on sending it in unless there is a serious issue going on.
When removing the metallinc heat sink, aren’t we in fact separating the microcircuits’ and other components’ thermal paste from the heat sink? I’m surprised to see that applying new thermal paste is not in the video. Fingers crossed, that this is enough! 🤞
