How To: Clean Your PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition

- Yes, your game console needs regular maintenance. Cleaning the fan and keeping it free from dust will improve performance and reduce noise caused by the fan.
This video details how to easily clean your PS5 and works for both the standard PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition, both released in 2020. In this video, we used the Digital Edition of the PS5.
This guide will show you the simple steps to cleaning your PS5 without voiding your warranty since we don't go deep into the console's shell. Using these steps will have you finished cleaning your PS5 console in just a few minutes, in a few steps with minimal tools used.

Step 1: Remove the Side Plates
Start by removing the panel with the PlayStation logo on it, which is considered the top cover. Face the power button towards you and grab the bottom left of the panel by moving slightly up and to the right. Flip the console over (power button away) and grab the top left corner and repeated the same motion.
Step 2: Clean the Dust Catchers
Sony wisely designed the PlayStation 5 console to be incredibly easy to clean and even included dust catchers built into the console. Use a vacuum with a small hose attachment, a microfiber rag or gently spray canned air into the dust catchers.
Step 3: Remove the Fan (and Clean)
Removing the fan is an optional step, but something that's easy to do and will absolutely help the performance of the console. Take your screwdriver and remove the four screws holding the metal cover in place. Take note of the location and size differences of each screw.
Step 4: Air It Out
From here you’ll want to take the canned air and gently spray it over the console to remove any loose dust. Get into some of the nooks and crannies with the air, as well, to help.
Step 5: Wipe It Down
Now that you’ve aired the PS5 out, it’s time to take that microfiber cloth and wipe the console down.
Step 6: Build It Back, Better
Reverse this process to build the console back. Ensure the fan is plugged in and secured in the console, put back any additional pieces you might have removed and snap those covers back on.
Routine cleaning of your console will help your device last longer. Use these steps to clean your PS5 with ease and game long into the night!

@PCC-DRiPPy it's not 100% safe, you can mess it up. I saw someone post on ifixit that they removed the yellow part with pliers because they saw pliers being used when unplugging the fan... they ripped out the socket instead of the plug. I can see a lot of people mistakenly grabbing the yellow part of the plug and ripping that out before realizing the plug is just the middle white plastic. That being said, if you're careful it's very safe and not that hard. But be careful!

@@iceman62509 The screwdriver is probably a Philip's. But, if you're not sure, just check the screws on your PS5. I am pretty sure it is a Philip's though. Sony would not have used screws like Apple does, either torx or pentalobe screws. They made it accessible for us to be able to clean the fans and the inside.

DO NOT use canned air. It will just push the dust more into the console. Instead use a vacuum
Vacuum does work best just make sure not to put the fan through to much air pressure or stress
If it was me I'll send it to SONY headquarters and tell them to do this for me the hard way as if there was a problem with my console

You can also use a mini vac or vac tube and tape a sturdy straw to the end and reach the straw inside of tight spots to suck dust instead of blowing it all around into other areas of the internals. Js another method I’ve discovered for myself as well that works well.
Wouldn't using a vacuum make more dust
Definitely one way to MacGyver a cleaning, the only issue is you cant get into the fan with a straw, you'll only be at the surface which with the opening of a straw likely doesnt have enough power to pull the dust from deeper inside the fan ✅Wil
i did this today and dusted off so much i was scared to slide off the covers xD but i got it done
Just did it and admittedly was terrified but it’s perfectly safe I couldn’t actually get the screws out to clean the majority of the dust so had to manually clean with a cue tip and a hoover in both hands 😅

Everyone watching this as a tutorial and attempts to take out the fan. YOU NEED THAT T9 driver. Without it you’re not going to ope sh!t but instead end up damaging the screws by trying ti poke around and seeing if something else might fit. MAKE SURE TO HAVE THE T9!

This was super easy, i didnt have screw drover needed so i held off on the fab, cleaned everything else, and im confident in doing the can once i get the drivers needed

Great video. How often would you recommend cleaning the PS5? Every 6 months or so? I've had it a year and haven't cleaned it yet. I just ordered some compressed air and I will be doing this as soon as it arrives.
It's recommended to clean it every month for a good console performance.
I've had mine for over 2 years and I'm barely cleaning it today for the first time. There isn't even much dust. I keep my PS5 covered when I'm not using it, so that prevents dust from getting inside it.

However, I have turned on the iPad and have played a game with it still on, so I have to remind myself to take it off lol PS5 has actually shut off because I kept it on for a long time. Hopefully no lasting damage has been done. It seems to be ok and I have been playing it a lot lately.

T-8 Screwdriver. Designed for working on electronics and smaller equipment. Home Depot/Lowe’s has really cheap sets. I’m getting one while I’m watching this

I have seen many use a vacuum to clean the fans and the outside etc especially those big holes in the middle the dust catchers, is it safe to use a vacuum if its off the power source for like 20 min ?

When you put your side plates back on do not push on them like he does!!! Gently slide panel into place and then gently push upward. When I did it the way he says I bent the circles the snap into place in the top corners. Hopefully none of you have the same issue

You need a Torx T9 Screwdriver. You can get a set pretty cheaply at most local stores.

I've seen comments saying to use a vacuum. Does it have to be small of big because i do not have a small one rn
A smaller attachement will help get into some nooks, but it's not necessary. Sometimes a regular vacuum is better because it doesnt have the focused force of a smaller one that could break small pieces of plastic. ✅Wil

Invest in a proper battery operated canless air system like the O2 Hurricane instead of insanely weak canned air and you don’t even need to pull the whole thing apart like this…

I have had mine for less than a year but I am just a little worried that it is really delicate and i will break something when i finally get around to cleaning it (i was told to clean it every year?). i tried my best taking the panels off wasn’t going hard at all and when i took it off those little tips broke off. 2 on each side broke off

Oooo. That'll happen, ours had the security bit already. It's odd that it's not standard across all Torx screwdrivers.
It's just a pain in the a$$ that the fan screws are not normal torx but the ones with a pin in the middle 🤦♂️. And btw, why are the screws different in length? Is there something I need to be aware of?
Yeah, it's pretty annoying, we've also had reports of people having both T8 and T9 screws as well as the Security Bit. We haven't dug into the full reason for the different lengths. It's typically just because of where they can put the receiving side behind whatever plastic and other components they have to make space for. ✅Wil
