I had 4 of them and ran the piss out of them. They work for smaller pdws but suck with large rifles . The MCX-SURG is a rare piece of kit that had a "contract overrun", basically extras for commercial use, that was only available to MIL/LEO at first at the time of selling in late 2023. I checked GunJoker at there's probably 15 "legit" items for sale there. Definitely going to be pretty rare in the future and will need up to two tax stamps in addition of paying $4100-4700 (as of this writing).
Aa of our filming we were informed that they will be available on the commercial market off the same production line the contract ones come from. I'm sure availability will be tight and price will be high though.
MCX-SURG was MIL/GOV only starting in 2018 (SOCOM contract start). SOCOM reupped contract in mid-2023 and commercial units to commercial US dealers were made available by pre-order only, taken off of the same production line as the SOCOM contract kits, all of which now recently are getting fulfilled and shipping to dealers in the last few months. None of them were LEO only at any point - only commercial dealer ordering.
