Day 1: Alright Matt I got one for you. I used to work armed security in a packing warehouse and we always wondered how bulletproof the pallets of new flat stacked cardboard boxes were. I always bet they could stop pistol and shotgun rounds but maybe not rifle rounds. Can you please test this?!?!?
@@notcapnbloodbeard Don't be surprised if the bullet only travels a foot or two, if that. There is no pressure buildup so the bullet has no moment. In fact, sometimes the bullet doesn't fly out at all and the gunpowder instead rips a hole in the side of the casing with the bullet still stuck in the casing. I used to put bullets in fire and watch them go pop. Trust me, I know.
It is actually. Where the mag feed is they usually put a catch there so covert operations won’t give away any information due to the shell casings. Coups and other situations where you don’t want your presence known
I've had an AR57 for several years. As a shell catcher, you can take a band saw an cut off the feed lips of any Magpul magazine (so it fit's flush with the Lower. Will collect more than 50 shell casings, and great for keeping brass from getting everywhere!
I made a bullet catch using a broken magazine, polymer magazine got left on the range and it got hit when I was mowing. I was able to save the top portion with the locking notch. I just took the feedlips off so it sat in deep enough to lock and had about 3 inches left usable so I got a mesh bag drilled holes through the mag so I could slip a slim bolt through poking out the sides and fasten the mesh bag and the bolts prevebt the bag from slipping off
Love how Kiko been asking for this for 200+ days but didn't bother specifying exactly what they meant in all those comments. Also love that Matt improvised and brought multiple targets. Edit, I forgot to say I also love that Matt risked getting shot by body armor
yeah was wondering that too, like how would shell casing in a canvas sack compare to like a sand bag or some other softer medium like bullets in a woven mesh, since when a bullet was hit it seemed to stop the round pretty easily, but the force caused the resin to just crack and snap off
I feel like the use of the resin, brittle as it is, was a detriment to this test. I would love to see this redone in a different medium, like a packed into a vest's plate carrier pouch or something.

The answer is no. Lead may be great at stopping zoomies (a nuclear submarine term for radiation), but will do basically nothing to stop bullets in a thin sheet like that. Even mild steel that thin won't stop bullets; lead has no chance. The glass is hard and will deflect bullets from a straight line into some random trajectory, but also is not remotely bulletproof.
@@Xplicid I dunno gunpowder is plenty flammable (ask me how I know - doing my part contributing to the reloading supplies shortage by occasionally lighting lines of powder on fire for giggles). I find it strange nothing happened here.

I'm surprised how well the resin held up. I'm pretty sure that you set off a round, at about 13:00 when you hit the middle plate with the 5.7 you can see a larger puff of smoke, so it looks like one went off.
@@christiankirby8092 you must be blind, he said the center plate, which had full bullets in casing. He even mentions earlier on, and demonstrates they have gunpowder in them. The first plate though is just the bullets themselves.
I thought this too! When he got close, it looked like that 5.7 hit the top of one .45 bullet, which means it would've delivered a bunch of energy to the primer of the round sitting above it too- so it'd be believable. Couldn't tell if it was cinderblock dust or a round blowing out, but the rest of the cinderblock hits didn't look quite so much as a puff of smoke as this one did.
Hey Matt, here's a thought. What about making armor out of ironwood? It probably won't be good for a person, but perhaps it's decent for a vehicle, or some part of your house? Maybe a tactical shield?
Top four hardest words in the world: Australian Buloke - 5,060 IBF. ... Schinopsis brasiliensis - 4,800 IBF. ... Schinopsis balansae - 4,570 IBF. ... Lignum vitae - 4,500 IBF.
Curious to see how well these would perform, how many shots they'll take, if put in plate carriers that keep the pieces together. Might be able to survive a couple more rounds.
the .45 ACP vertical arrangement has, essentially, formed a polylithic strike face. if you backed it up with soft armor, I might trust it. ...you still want to remove the bullets from the casings, though. the chance of a cookoff isn't *ideal.* also wear neck protection.
You've still got time to prep this idea Matt! Tuned plates so when you shoot them, they form a melody. Twelve days of Christmas.... I'll just leave this one here to simmer.
Honestly you should redo this test, but use fiberglass sheets covered in resin to hold the bullets together. Lay two sheets out coated in resin, then place the bullets and place in a bag to vacuum and suck out all the air which will so compress everything tightly together.
Mere was contemplating that decision hard. She was ready to let you go. She's definitely done with your shit. All in good fun my friend. You're a lucky man. Well, this explains the lack of reloading supplies.... Also you'd need to hit the primer of a live round with something that has enough energy to pop it, but not so much that it'll go through the cartridge case.
So, theoretically, if you hit a higher caliber primer with a smaller rounds with (idk how to spell it but the fire ones), wouldnt that work? Or am i wrong here
@@kameronmyles2013 if a tracer penetrated a cartridge case, the burning phosphorus might ignite the powder. It might have too much velocity to do it. You'd probably need to hit something like a .50 bmg with a .177 caliber pellet or bb. The cartridge case would burst. The shrapnel from cartridge cases isn't powerful enough to penetrate heavy clothing (fire fighters turnout gear) so still not very dangerous.
This was a great video. Keep up the great intro’s and demo’s. Clint looked like Scott from Kentucky Ballistics with that hat and dark mustache. 10/10 on this one.
Bro your intros are so on point my dude! That was exactly the reason I follow you. Some shit I would do to my wife 🤣 You deserve the 19 min of my attention.
The company that makes that 5.7 upper should make an AR mag without a follower that can fully seat in the magwell, so you can catch your brass for reloading.
I can't believe you didn't shoot the whole cartridge ones with incendiary to see if you could ignite something. Or 50 bmg just to watch them shower everywhere. You need to team up with the slow mo guys and do crazy targets like this.
@@shotty2164 it’s not actually that dangerous, a lot of the the time the bullet doesn’t even leave the casing, the casing just pops, and even if the bullet does leave the casing, the energy get dispersed in every direction so it only ends up flying out a couple feet, if that
3:50 - I actually really like the look of that w/o a mag, it looks unloaded and safe but is actually loaded.... Now I want to know if you could rip apart and empty an old mag and use it to catch the spent rounds, that would keep them clean for reloading. 😁😍
Man I am so glad you made this that’s awesome I don’t think I’ll make a bulletproof plate for my vest out of 45 ACP projectiles but good thought I’m just so glad you’re having so much fun doing it
I love the look of the AR 5.7 especially with that low profile and how it takes the p90 mags hopefully the mag runs the rounds through it if so then I definitely want to get one lol
To the guy that kept commenting asking for the bullet vs bullets, thank you sir!! I have always wondered myself if bullets would stop a bullet. Also thank you to Matt for making this video happen! As usual great video!!
2:30 that mid plate full unspent rounds bound in resin, technically you could say it's reactive armor. For the odd chance a perfect hit strikes a primer. So from left to right you've got "bases covered" (1st plate), the "reactive set" (2nd plate), and "just the tip" (3rd plate).
no 3 is probably the best, but ideally you'd just have ammunition arrayed in that way. back it up with some soft armor too ideally speaking you'd have steel pellets like that, instead of bullets, with small wide pellets in the array
The one that just has the bullets would make a spectacular floor for the gun safe, or office. (They all would look awesome as a floor but not worth the risk)
1) you should do a collab with the Going Ballistics guys so you can see the type of resins they are using or better yet a 1 v 1 challenge. 2) should've turned 1 of them around so you could've hit a primer.
AR57s have been around for yonks. Always wondered when you'd get around to trying one.. I've never experienced issues like you did with yours. You can get a catch bag for your brass that fits in the mag well, but I've seen people just using empty mags as brass catchers too. (Gutted mags)

This makes a lot of sense. After all, you send a maniac to catch a maniac, so surely to stop a bullet you use more bullets.
Finally! This guy gets it
You should make a big table like that, bullets in resin looks pretty cool.
Curious to see how well these would perform, how many shots they'll take, if put in plate carriers that keep the pieces together. Might be able to survive a couple more rounds.
the .45 ACP vertical arrangement has, essentially, formed a polylithic strike face. if you backed it up with soft armor, I might trust it.
...you still want to remove the bullets from the casings, though.
the chance of a cookoff isn't *ideal.*

You've still got time to prep this idea Matt! Tuned plates so when you shoot them, they form a melody. Twelve days of Christmas....
I'll just leave this one here to simmer.
BRCC has some similar
Honestly you should redo this test, but use fiberglass sheets covered in resin to hold the bullets together. Lay two sheets out coated in resin, then place the bullets and place in a bag to vacuum and suck out all the air which will so compress everything tightly together.
Bro Matt is winning life with Mere. Certified Legend.
I really wanted to see some bullet on bullet action today, thanks Matt.
Of all your shorts this is my favorite one, you can be a hollywood movie star
Mere was contemplating that decision hard. She was ready to let you go. She's definitely done with your shit.
All in good fun my friend. You're a lucky man. Ya'll are an awesome couple and I'm happy you two can support each other in all of your endeavors. You''re one of the funniest asshole I've seen. Keep being the badass you are. Stay frosty brother.
New rule for your range: ALWAYS bring a watermelon to shoot when using the range.
These are the videos I can’t get enough of!! The other stuff just makes me feel poor even though I work 60 hours a week 🤣🤣. I bought the world = not interested. I put a .22 in a straw and throw up in the air = omg omg I got see this!!🤣
You guy's Are crazy as hell, I don't know what too except each time I get a new notification from your channel because it's always something a little more crazier. But I'll be honest there always the best videos u guy's put out....so keep on keeping on guy's love them all!!
One of life’s toughest questions... Finally answered. Also you should have shot plastic jars of bullets not in resin due to the breaking apart.
Or set them in silicone perhaps
Just only mix in half the recommended hardener and let them cure for a week. That makes the resin really tough but also slightly sticky to the touch.
Would be a better substitute however plastic splits !
This is dope 🤘🏻 I love how the “armor plates” turned out!! Looks sweet 😎
Sweet like peanut brittle.

@2:30 You know you’ve made it in life when you can afford to shoot cartridges all willy-nilly!
That are in the beginning is just brilliant 😂😂😂😂 the whole episode was just something
"How dangerous do you want this video to be?"
Matt: "Yes..."
These intros never get old
Always a good viewing. Never a disappointment. Great show. Funny, entertaining, and yes informative. Always a thumb’s up.
This was a great video. Keep up the great intro’s and demo’s. Clint looked like Scott from Kentucky Ballistics with that hat and dark mustache. 10/10 on this one.
Yeah, I was wondering if Scott's dad was filming this one.
That’s pretty cool how the 5.56 went straight through the resin without hitting a single bullet/casing even though they were all jumbled up in there.
Bro your intros are so on point my dude! That was exactly the reason I follow you. Some shit I would do to my wife 🤣 You deserve the 19 min of my attention.
6:50 these moving targets are getting extremely realistic huh
i dont even wanna think about how much those plates cost in ammo prices.
Always a good day when Matt uploads.

This is the best preview I have ever seen.!!!🤣😂
The company that makes that 5.7 upper should make an AR mag without a follower that can fully seat in the magwell, so you can catch your brass for reloading.
I *think* they sell little mesh bags that hang from the mag-well for that purpose
The company that made the AR57 upper isn't producing them any longer and only makes specialty holsters now.
I can't believe you didn't shoot the whole cartridge ones with incendiary to see if you could ignite something. Or 50 bmg just to watch them shower everywhere.
You need to team up with the slow mo guys and do crazy targets like this.
There is the danger of a bullet coming back towards him or someone else
Probably not the safest thing to do tho…
@@shotty2164 it’s not actually that dangerous, a lot of the the time the bullet doesn’t even leave the casing, the casing just pops, and even if the bullet does leave the casing, the energy get dispersed in every direction so it only ends up flying out a couple feet, if that
And excite the thought of Darwin award? I . Think . NOT
Man what a bunch of wusses in the replies. It's like yall haven't watched this channel before.
hey matt i been watching your videos for like 7years and i enjoy every one keep it up!!!
Same
3:50 - I actually really like the look of that w/o a mag, it looks unloaded and safe but is actually loaded....
The Canik Rival is so under rated, i love that pistol! especially for the price ♥

So from left to right you've got "bases covered" (1st plate), the "reactive set" (2nd plate), and "just the tip" (3rd plate).
no 3 is probably the best, but ideally you'd just have ammunition arrayed in that way.
back it up with some soft armor too
ideally speaking you'd have steel pellets like that, instead of bullets, with small wide pellets in the array
The one that just has the bullets would make a spectacular floor for the gun safe, or office. (They all would look awesome as a floor but not worth the risk)
Could use dummy rounds or powderless bullets to still have the visual effect
On no my 45 acp floor is exploding
@@carsonchavis7821 hence why i specified the one with just the bullets and didn't suggest complete rounds
Finally, definitive proof of the stopping power of .45 acp
Holy crap the intro!!!!😂😂😂
1) you should do a collab with the Going Ballistics guys so you can see the type of resins they are using or better yet a 1 v 1 challenge.
2) should've turned 1 of them around so you could've hit a primer.
AR57s have been around for yonks. Always wondered when you'd get around to trying one.. I've never experienced issues like you did with yours.
You can get a catch bag for your brass that fits in the mag well, but I've seen people just using empty mags as brass catchers too. (Gutted mags)
Hm never knew that, they are definitely pretty cool. Would be a bit cooler with a shorter barrel tho
One has to wonder how many times during a day Mere has to think/ say "But why?". Great video as always
I've been watching for like 2 years and never left a comment but I love your show thank you for the content
