Not an Olight fan here but we need to he accurate. The exploding light had NOTHING to do with Olight except happenstance, they weren’t even required to appear in court over it.
It was a cheap Chinese battery of the wrong rating that the Olight owner installed in his Olight. He held the light in his mouth while working on his car, the battery overheated and exploded, and popped the cap off the back, which lodged itself in his airway and he choked to death.
Just as Glock isn’t to blame when Freedom Munitions detonates like a nuke, Olight wasn’t to blame for a wrong and cheaply made battery being used in their light.
Wow, that's Final Destination Freak Accident multiplied by plain old Darwinian stupidity, right there. Poor bastard.
The specific phenomenon that caused the olight to explode is called reverse charging, and any light that uses multiple CR123As is susceptible to the exact same thing. The chemistry of the cheap Nuon brand batteries that the victim was using is apparently extremely likely to cause issues, regardless if it's in a cheap or expensive light.
Can't post links but just search for "Photon Phreaks cr123a reverse charging" and you'll find an article that describes the issue in depth. The same article cites other incidents with different brands that used multiple cr123a batteries, which is why the industry has been moving away from them
@@tombarnett937 Yep, poor bastard but nonetheless many people are still blaming Olight for it...
Not intentionally trolling here but it’s funny you said “a cheap Chinese battery” is to blame for the unfortunate malfunction in a cheap Chinese light.
I absolutely hate it when people say Olight lights explode. Dont be a moron and they are great lights.
Yeeeepppppp, Both mine don't hold zero. At all.

At least they keep zero 🙄
PSA: Monstrum piggyback mounts don’t hold zero if you buy the 3-piece adapters. I traded them in and got the solid 2-piece adapter and it holds zero perfectly against a mallet.
Noted; this is good info as we’re making a video on one of optics and it’s honestly extremely impressive so far
Had one of their lpvo's a while back and from a 1 foot drop the ocular housing bent. Not dent, bent. No longer inline with the rest of the scope body lmao
My review is dropping tomorrow. Mine lost zero (by about 3 inches at 15 yards)when racking it off the optic 15 times. But it shifted back… It held zero under recoil though. I used a Zev cut slide with post and 4-40 screws. Lets just say the included 4-40 screws and the tolerances of the Osight screw hole tolerances cause the sight to shift slightly when hit. They need better/longer screws and a smaller hole. This is not unique, almost every cheaper Chinese optic Ive used had this same tolerance issue. They all held zero perfectly on a traditional RMR cut with forward post (because the fit was snug, with zero wiggle). You can watch my review tomorrow if you want the nerdy specs/measurements. Spoiler, it does have other practical issues…
I had the same problem with the Sig Romeo Zero. I used it on a RMR pic mount that had no "cut" face to index against and it would flop around under recoil. You could even press on it with your thumb and watch it shift zero. Turns out Sig has a video out that stays you *must* index this sight against a cut in order for it to hold zero, as the polymer body and screws alone are not enough. I did get a full return from the vendor, as they agreed that representing the sight as "compatible" with a RMR mount while not mentioning it needed a cut in the product description (which is not part of the RMR specs) was misleading. As far as I am concerned Sig needs to add that to the product description; you need an RMR spec mount *with a cut* to index against in order to run those kinds of optics.
(for those who are curios the screws can wedge the optic against the front face of the cut, which is why the tolerances on the screw holes themselves are not all that important when using both features to index and secure the sight.)
@@lucusloc good info 👍
My 2 were/are indexed and plated properly. The zero moves constantly. Check it after 2 rounds, moved. Check it after another 2 rounds, moved. It's the optic.
@@OvertonWindex Weird, sounds like it is a QC/design issue then. I must have got a rare one that works 🤷♂️
@@poortac5568 You are in the minority, it seems. Not including you, 8 out of 10 that I’m aware of, are crap.
Olight batteries were not the culprit on the blowup...it was the wrong size placed into the light. That being said, great review. This is exactly what is needed, HONEST reviews. Well done man.
That's a very good point. Can you show me any instance of reliable light brands that have exploded due to an incorrect battery?
Using CR123As in something meant for AA or whatever happened is definitely not a good idea in any flashlight that won't support it. I haven't had of any dangerous, explosive failures with any of Olight's products with their own sealed batteries.
I've been using lights like the Odin mini, Baldr mini, i5T, and Arkfeld Pro with no issues. They're cheap enough for me to cover my needs with EDC keychain/Pistol/Long Gun/emergency spare etc vs buying something expensive like a Surefire for just 1 gun. They can handle a flashlight no issue nowadays.
I'm definitely skeptical when they enter another market, especially with first generation products. I'll come back around if they identify and address flaws like those in the video.
@@Tayoshi keep in mind, it’s not the light, or brand of the light; it’s the battery. Just look it up, this can and has happened many, many times with many “high end” brands, up to and including surefire. The reason Olight took so much flak for it is due to the fact that they had just entered the weapon mounted light market and the gun community is littered with elitist snobs who caught a whiff of this and decided to blow it out of proportion: “If you’re not spending $400+ on your LED with a battery encased in aluminum, you’re gonna die. When I was a door kicker in Iraq in 2002, we only used surefire, so that’s all that’s acceptable today in 2024”

@@iamnotarealboy I've yet to see anyone pick up a 10 lb rock and continuously drop it on any other sight lol. I have no doubt some will survive but if that's the standard I don't think as many sights are as good as people think lol.
I would like to see that rock dropped on the 507 comp. I bet it wouldn't hold up either
Is the mounting plate moving or is the emitter moving?
Prices on Holosun have doubled since I bought my $139 407 and $179 507k! No issues with either one and I carry every day!
There is no mounting plate, it’s a direct fit for my cut slide.
You can also watch me whack it independent from the slide entirely and show it shifting on the green dot
Hopefully, they will take this review and improve the product. It would be neat to see another company make reliable but budget options.
I’m hoping they fix this issue fast.
I reached out to every creator I know that also got sent these to verify it wasn’t just me before posting. It’s a repeatable issue unfortunately; if they fix it fast the optic would be a slam dunk.

I like how homie “zeros” lmao farthest thing from zero’d
Could you do the same rock test with a holosun? There's a big difference between dropping a rock on an object and dropping said object on a rock.
Also, the zero part alone is enough to not want this item.
Search Hunter Constantine’s video on it! His work didn’t get the recognition it deserved and he beat the optic way way worse than I did
@@DeskPop drop the same rock on your holosun it will break
@@waterhead1359 spoiler alert, the optic was broken when it couldn’t hold zero, the rock didn’t “break it” any further.
@@DeskPop you know what I'm talking about
“You can beat your holosun all you want” then doesn’t proceed to use the same rock test as on the osight. Come on dude - like for like testing.
I am also curious how you torqued the screws. What inch pound setting did you use? Never mind, you just hand tightened with that crappy tool they include. I highly doubt you got proper torque with that tool. I might test and see if thats why mine didnt lose zero. Proper torque is a must. 🤷♂️
Respectfully you’re making an ass out of yourself; we do this for a living and haven’t encountered a problem with any other dot tested.
Absolutely foolish and asinine to assume us and everyone else who tests dots and firearms on a regular basis, most of us coming from gunsmithing as a background, with years of experience all simultaneously decided to not torque an optic to spec and All had it shift.
This isn’t a “just me” issue. If you got one that holds zero you’re the outlier.
I wack it completely independent from mounting screws and it still shifts, you can and have seen that in the video.
For a comp. The 507 comp was also hand tightened to 18 inches pounds. I’ve installed optics to slides thousands of times.
@@DeskPop Not trying to be disrespectful either, Im just trying to be objective. Im not a fan of Olight, but I see a lot of bashing (or praising from shills) without cause a lot on youtube. Its entirely possible yours are both lemons and mine is not. Or mine might lose zero the next time I shoot it 🤷♂️ Since you tightened it by hand, on video, (which Ive had multiple red dots lose zero from) I would want to remove that variable. Again, Im simply trying to determine if its a QC issue, user issue, design issue, etc. The optic obviously has issues, but my purpose as a reviewer is to help improve gear for our community, so they don’t waste their money. Diagnosing the issue will only help yours and my viewers. SOTAR videos are a good example of what I value in testing. @@DeskPop that is the truth! 😂
Monstrum is definitely worth the little bit of money they charge. Yeah, they may break, but they will send you a new one. It's happened to 2 out of the 10 things I've bought from them. And one of those things was the light level turret loosened slightly, they sent me a brand new one and now I have two. A screw fell out of another and they sent me a whole new 3x magnifier. Most of their stuff has both red and green too. They also have a bunch of cheap mounting hardware that we all know isn't top notch, but most of it has lasted over 2 years on my old gear. I will always recommend them just for the customer service alone, besides having decent stuff.
Monstrum continues to get better each generation they put out. Not all of us need to spend $50k to equip all our rifles with optics. I got the 3-18x FFP on a pcp air rifle and absolutely love it. Also have the 1-6xlpvo on an AR for years and has had thousands of rounds of 5.56, tons of times thrown around in a truck on many trips and have never had to re zero it.
Its true . I just got the Monstrum ruckus and it is a solid beefy optic with clear glass.
@@pacobell97 not sure about the one you got, but if I could change one thing about my Monstrums would be the center reticle being too big of a dot. They’re great budget optics. I’d rather have stuff I’m down to use and abuse and still know I can trust it without going in debt for it 😂😂
What holster is that? huge optic cover. love the clear glass on the red dot, but hate everything else. :D

Did you properly torque that?
Definitely did not. You could even see that the screw wasn't tight when he removed the first sight.
So like what slide and comp you rocking? Looks dope
Zaffiri slide, radian ramjet barrel/comp
I have a couple, well, three olights. They run well. Very interested in the optic. My Burris is perfectly acceptable but has weird dimming issues in the range I frequent. I also have to remove and rezero for battery changes, and I don't get shake awake, so you got to flip the switch if you're in any kind of situation that even the most remote chances exist for "unplanned use."
Curious to what slide and comp are you running on the Dagger??
This is why I believe this channel over everyone else
And we love you because of your big strong arms 😤
I got put on to Monstrum from 704 Tactical and I agree they have good optics, flashlights, and mounts for the price either enthusiasts who have dozens of firearms and can't afford to put an EOtech, Trijicon or Surefire on every single one or people who flat out can barely afford a firearm in the first place. Also I have to shout out Tacticon I have a few of their products as well and I have to say it takes balls to put your name and face on your products. With other faceless companies if they get a bad rep they can easily rebrand and most won't notice but when you make yourself the brand you have to stand by your product or you'll never be able to work innthe industry again.
4:55 can someone explain why he's disappointed he has to zero the optic? I dont think ive had an optic i havent had to zero. Also what is this zero method? Thanks
eEvery optic worth buying now comes very close to zeroed or zeroed from the factory. it’s expected that I could shoot and just be a few clicks off, not have the dot a mile off target.
The zeroing method I used here is just slaving the dot to irons; it’s possibly the most common way to test if a pistol reticle is moving because you have a fixed point of reference you can always return to.
@@DeskPop wow very cool! I'm gonna try that trick with my new holoson I just put on my p365! Thanks

Alien gear rapid force holster!
I was able to buy one of the test sights, definitely would only use it for competition where loss of functions isn't dangerous. But I wouldn't use it for any defensive purposes.
I initially gave my a 5 star review, but, the shake awake feature doesn't work anymore after one range trip. Didn't have trouble with zero, but it was on a competition 22lr pistol and I didn't beat it with a magazine so..... not a fair review. Going to mount it on my 9mm and see if I can get it to lose zero too now.
yea man, I really wanted it to be good, unfortunately the QC seems to be very very bad or non-existent
While I do appreciate the honesty, I have to point out that you guys didn't use a torque wrench when installing the red dot and inadequate torque or inconsistent torque between the screws absolutely will cause the optic to lose zero when hit.
No…
okay then
Also a good point; cheap screws may not hold torque/clamp-up as well as better ones. A torque check before & after with a cheap Fat Wrench would be a good way to confirm the screws are staying put vs. stretching or loosening for future reviews. Was there anything on the underside that might impede a solid fitment of the Olight sight? I've seen crummy RMR clones with 'gaskets' that prevent metal/metal contact, and thus you get bad zero shifts.
Amazing review. Do you have a dot sight similar you recommend as an alternative?
Yep! The Holosun 507 comp I run obviously; for a similar price point the cyclee optics have been solid for everyone I know thats tested them. Or the Gideon Omega!

Don't worry, Holosun can't hold zero after just reholstering. No impacts needed. My 507k didn't even make it to the first shot before I replaced it under warranty, and the replacement is now doing the same after 2 years.
Odd, I have several 407 and 507K's and shoot a LOT, Both 1911 and 2011's in 9mm and .45ACP. Never an issue. More than can be said for my much more expensive Lupy Deltapoint pro!

@@VitalArms Cute. Care to explain why the reticle visibly moves and the optic rattles when not mounted to a firearm? Because my first one did both.
Wild, I carried a 407 on my EDC pistol for nearly a year (upgraded to a DPP because 'Merica) and never had a zero shift. Even racking the gun off hard cover didn't make a difference. I have that same dot on my AR and it's still holding zero flawlessly. Only real dig I have on the optic is the glass is heavily blue tinted, which is a non-issue.
507C has been holding zero for 6 years.
507 Comp has been holding zero for 1 year on shadow 2 with 9lb spring.
407C same story for 5 years.
507K same story for 3 years.
Torque your optics down properly. Sounds like a mounting issue.
I went through 5 Vortex Razors, the battery terminal broke 3 times, the 4th wouldn't hold zero and the 5th one just stopped working after 300 rounds. Brand means nothing.
O-Light's Facebook group gad a mod, and guy that works for him comparing it to a Trijicon, dude didnt realize it, but his Trijicon was a counterfeit.
Honestly didn’t have issues with the green dot they sent me. I expected it to be laughable in quality but me and my buddy both were surprised in how decent the unit I had seemed.

I'm not sure what size screws you use for that RMR cut on your slide, but my plate used #4-40 screws that are so tiny they dont fill the holes in the sight at all, but they were the perfect size that a piece of PTFE 3D printer Bowden tube cut to the depth of the screw hole in the sight made a very snug fit and my Osight hasn't moved since.

I only have one pistol optic…. Still trying to get use to them so don’t want to go all in until I am confident…. But I use a Tacticon predator v4 and it’s been crazy good
There are only a handful of optics than can handle a rock being smashed on them. The only one that comes to mind that is under $500 is the 509t. Zeroe shift is an issue, but no torquing of the screws, loctite, nor was a proper zero set. Informative evaluation but dubious execution.
The 507 comp can handle this as well.
All the cyclees can handle it.
Definitely an RMR can handle it.
I didn’t “smash” it, i dropped a fairly small rock from less than two feet.
Proper torque for an optic is 10-15inch pounds which is quite literally hand tight; I’ve mounted hundreds of optics in my day, I’m very confident it was tightened properly.
@@DeskPop the test is subjective without controls in place to make testing repeatable. Proper torque, loctite, and a drop / smash test that is repeatable is how that is done. The review is fun to watch, but it’s subjective and your argument of having a tuned torque wrench of a hand bolsters that. I understand your argument, and understand having a tuned hand. I wrenched for a decade on carbon parts with titanium fasteners. End of the day humans are humans and we are the variable that needs to be removed. Also an rmr is a $500 optic.
@@timoftheboat whatever makes you happy, go buy it and do the test yourself. I tested it effectively, you don’t need a “tuned” hand for 12-15 inch pounds. Especially when you’re removing and replacing and optic with another optic that’s had the exact same treatment and holds zero perfectly. My attempt to save you money is mute if you’re going to try to cope.
Here’s the simple fact:
I have mounted hundreds of dots by hand and with torque wrenches in the past year.
12-15 inch pounds is 1 ft/lb which with your experience you would know is extremely low; if anything I would have overtorqued the optic screws which wouldn’t result in the optic slipping.
I put my 507 comp back on and torque it exactly the same way again, and It will continue to hold zero indefinitely as it has for the last 20,000 rounds of abuse this gun has already seen.
Did anyone wait the required 24 hours of letting the loctite seat before test firing ? That's pretty much why most of my chairs otis hold zero even with hand impacts to the uptick.
Having said that, i haven't treated my osight yet, but will soon find out in about a week, and report back. But i will do the required 24 hour waiting period
You were quick on this one lol, just saw the meme about being sorry to inform you of this. It being rechargeable was the coolest part. I will put it out there that there should be a prism pistol sight with shake awake and rechargeable.
Prism sight on an optic that far away from your face is kinda wild

@DeskPop well, you certainly presented some good evidence. Thanks for your input. Everyone can watch and see that it's loose. Thats just poor test procedure. Any quality engineers out there want to chime in? I doubt they would support this cavalier approach to testing.
@@4jack8mama everyone here knows I’ve built more guns than anyone; so no, no one’s gonna back you up.
Wow, I just realized you're the actual creator. Nice way to respond to your viewers. Name calling and knee jerk response with no substance.
@@4jack8mama womp womp, viewer commented something disrespectful and is now mad that he got put in his place.
This isn’t a service business, I am a guy who makes great content and if you’re rude I don’t have to be nice back.
Greeeeeat i just ordered one of these paper weights a hour ago 😮
Good run down. Good to see honesty out of optics reviewers. These chinese optics are so prevalent that it's getting harder and harder to see through the weeds.
This guy broke a HUGE international law and I'm hoping he does not se prison time for this!! At 11:11 you see him "Double Dotting" which is a clear violation of the International War Crimes code 1.445.74b.84 Ver.3.0 Also known as the Double Dot Matrix Rule. This rule was agreed to by both NATO and Warsaw Pact parties after horrendous experiments in the 80's left countless soldiers on both sides permanently cross-eyed and insane trying to improve combat sights for troops. The damage was deemed so inhumane both sides agreed to never again allow such insidious trials. I hope they do not go after him and his vision and mental state remain intact.
“Uh, it Tastes like ChYnA” HacHa, You Sir, Just Earned a New Subscriber!💯‼️🤠👍🏼
Upsetting since im watching after already purchased one
rip
After my first and only, very disappointing Olight experience with one of their weapon lights, I've honestly avoided them since. Streamlight for flashlights and Holosun for optics are my go-to's and haven't let me down.
THANK YOU for SAVIN me 150+ bucks by the way you said you hate makin BAD reviews BUT you are SAVIN people from TONS of disappointing HEADACHES so that should put a smile on ur face - Thanks Again , I was sooooo CLOSE to buying that JUNK ! Hey maybe Olight will up their game because of YOU & that would be even COOLER
Thanks for saving my money on this sight, would´ve been my first.
Go with a holosun for a few extra $, well worth it.
@@DeskPop Oh, since watching your video, I´m really considering a Holosun for my CZ Shadow 2 OR in the future, but due to local restrictions I´m probably staying at irons till I have my second and then non OR but probably ordonnance pistol (again due to local restrictions).
And by the way -> subbed and binge watching your vids since I love the humor. 😘
Can´t only watch the big gun tubers anymore, since I´m missing too much good content. 😅
And if you´re courious I´ve found you searching for presumabely honest Osight reviews.
Enough text and singing off with slightly drunk greetings from Germany. 😅😅😅😅
What comp is that?
Radian Ramjet; is very nice I very recommend
@@DeskPop 😎 🤝 😎
How does the weight compare to the 507 comp?
About the same weight wise
Im curious if they can put the battery tech in the holoson
No torque wrench? I dont trust good and tight
Torque specs are 12-15 inch pounds on pistol optics… that’s 1ft-lbs btw… I definitely torqued it down fine.
God I fucking love this channel

Ong we are so poor; I couldn’t even afford a slab on concrete to drop the optic in
I love monstrum optics cuz they work well
Deskpop review Deskpop review Deskpop review Deskpop review
I just posted it yellow; because RUclips no like us anyways
What holster you carrying your baby in
Honestly, would Monstrum be unhappy with you if you gave Olight a good review if it had performed well?
Monstrum wouldn’t care; they don’t pick the video I throw them in.
This felt like a fitting video since it didn’t perform well.
What kind of zeroing tool do you use, and does it scratch up the screws? Also what's your opinion on Olight lights being fire hazards, specifically when stored away and not being in use? I just recently purchased two PL-3Rs and they feel good and have held up great after a couple of range trips.
I used their included too, tbh I don’t worry about scratching the screws because I generally only ever have to zero the optic once. We did a review on their pistol lights and they endured the same abuse I put everything through.
They’re good, very good. at least the ones we tested used cr123a’s so I can’t give you feedback on that battery issue.
@@DeskPop I appreciate the info. The sight actually looks really cool, I hope they can improve it. Thanks for keeping it real.
@@bearonguitar I think you can tell how excited I was before I gave it sideways smacks.
It’ll be a great dot if they can fix the glass and Zero
Their rechargeable pistol lights have a lockout mode for long term storage or for tossing in a bag so you don't turn it on inadvertently and melt something.
Is this dot getting cheaper as of tomorrow after 8pm? Anyone else seeing their site, that looks like a sale starts. Maybe i pick up a few and test for fun
I have a monstrum banshee 1-4x LPVO on my 10/22 and a buddies AR15. They both look great and hold zero and were 75 each on amazon. Cannot be beat for range & ranch guns.
do you have video(s) can do the same rock drop test on Trijicon?
Good to know, i'll stay with Vector if i want to go cheap
Got an email about this sight today. Looked for reviews and you just saved me some money thanks man.
The osight is kind of a try your luck product, some people habe had serious problems with the olight osight, but I haven't, maybe im just lucky, or maybe I just dont beat the crap out of my gear enough, but my osight is mounted on my AR and seems to work fine for me, that being said, for some reason the Green dot version seems to have much much better luck at keeping zero and just being useable and abuseable in general, I really dont know, but id say if you have problems with it, tell olight, if your going to pay $200 on an optic and it doesnt work, at least use the warranty they give you
Clearly we can see that Holosun is an Olight Osight made in the same factory in China. Competition of rebranding Chinese stuff is always good.
@@JohnSmith-nh9vr it’s not even close..
Props for being the only honest one to review this.
Fatty commissions and free stuff doesn’t make a company improve their products. I’m hoping they improve and I can try again with a better outcome
@DeskPop Olight has a tedancy to drop reviewers rather than improve their products. Best of luck to you though. I'm not at all a fan of Olight products or the company. But honesty in reviews holds far more weight in my book. Too many people in the case of this Osight and a plethora of other products every year from multiple manufacturers, are just salesmen when the NDA is released and the product launch happens. So for what it's worth. Respect to you for not being one of them. That type of honesty is what I've always built my channel around.
@@RTTGunsGear "We asked for a review of our budget optic, and you hit it with a rock until it broke." Just saying, from their perspective it /might/ not seem like a good-faith effort.
@@RTTGunsGear Calling all other creators who had no issues with their optic “Dishonest” is a massive L. Good on @Deskpop for showing what happened, we are happy he did.
People who tested their optics (including 2 6ft drop tests into cement.) with no shift are still being honest. They just had a different result.
Olight clearly had a QC issue which means there was a bad apple here.
RTT, if you ever want to talk, my line is open. I can get your answers before you make assumptions.
Good to know.
Thank you.
Why’s your belt on backwards
Yo bro it’s Channing from youth group you said your channel was small😂
We’re super small
Do you run 507 comp for edc?
No, it's too big for how I dress unfortunately. I know a lot of people that do though!
I bet that holosun breaks under that rock sandwich too. That's not ever happening irl
@@MrJoshcc600 the problem was more the optic not holding zero at all.
but also this optics taken more abuse than that…
I've dropped by CCW pistols on numerous occasions. If I switch from irons, the optic has to survive.
How is that a thing? I’ve never once dropped a gun let alone the one I have on me 24/7
Size comparison: it's very close to the size of a rural route mailbox.
