That area is a hotspot for car burglaries. Lots of tourists thinking its a safe and visible area so that there won't be any car break-ins. Crooks are less inclined to do car break-ins in the chinatown/north beach area I've noticed.

When I was 18, it was much safer, wonderful five-star restaurants and a cool place to buy clothes for work or play. BART, Mayor and poorly motivated City Councils ruined it 1000% for everyone.
Wow, I can't believe it's worse then when I visited there a few years ago and had our van broken into. Police couldn't do anything about it nor did they even care to send anyone out to investigate. They pretty much say there's nothing we can do, if you want to drop by the police station to get a police report feel free, but otherwise they couldn't do anything. I really think they need to be warning tourists that it is 100% true that their cars will be broken into in touristy spots if they leave anything in them. It's not just likely, it's 100% guaranteed. That way they know to either avoid the city or not leave your car unattended with stuff in there.
If you are watching this from outside of California please note the reporter didn't mention Prop 47, which was a law voted for in this state that created the theft situation. Prop 47 eliminated theft with a prior, turning every shoplift into a first time offense. Prop 47 eliminated 2nd degree burglary; in California burglary was entry with the intent to commit any felony, or theft. Prop 47 changed the wording and made 2nd degree burglary a misdemeanor. In California most misdemeanor offenses are citation and release, not a custodial thing. Possession of stolen property laws were gutted and theft raised to almost $1,000. In essence, a criminal can steal over $300,000 a year in merchandise and face a maximum of one year in jail because the theft charges can't be stacked. Yes, the people voted for this. They were told, by police and police unions and the like, but didn't listen, ignored or doubted. George Gascon is the one politician primarily responsible for this.
The longstanding rule in Seattle is NEVER leave anything in your car. And that means nothing, nada, nyet, zip. Be prepared to schelp everything with you or leave it at home.

@@Will_Moffett Law enforcement has been defunded and repositioned. Moral is at its all time low. BLM has their flags raised at embassies across the world, are invited guests at key decision summits, and its leaders are raking in millions. And the modern drug war isn't specific to race as methamphetamine, a "white person's" drug, sentencing guidelines are the same as crack and heroin which is generally believed to be a black person's drug. Funnily enough it was black community leaders that advocated for harsher sentencing guidelines for crack and heroin in the 80s because they saw first hand how destructive it was to their communities. Stop making up bullshit.
Yup, we sold our house in SF 15 years ago and left due to the crime, street thugs, and general filth. I'm not sure why only now people are noticing? Our children could not play in the parks we played in as children since the homeless lived there. I think it has now finally spilled over into the rich neighborhoods and tourist areas. My neighbor got whipped with a belt and put in the hospital that was our final red flag to leave. In braid daylight. Of course nobody saw anything.
What's worst is that insurance companies refuse to pay for cat vandelism. My neighbor couldn't get state farm to pay for a smashed moon window and a filed complaint to the California State was useless.
Good news for auto glass company. I remembered when I attended an event in SF long time ago, a homeless dude guided me to a parking space and asked for $5 to watch my car, he owned the block. The best $5 I ever spent.

Sad...people on the street need to start taking action on their own. another reason not to visit SF until the politicians do something to stop the downward spiral
How is a spike even possible? When I lived there 2 years ago it was common to walk down main streets and see lines of hundreds of cars in a row all with busted windows. It's worse?
Victim should be allowed defend their property with force. The law seems to protect the thieves. Even the victim or good Samaritans catch the thieves, they can't even physically teach them a lesson.
We solved the problem in 2018 by putting all of our goods in our vehicles and driving directly to our new home in Boise, Idaho. We miss all that culture of broken glass on the street.
Look up the District Attorney of Sanfran and look up the parents and how he was raised and by who. You will see why nothing gets done in SF about crime.
You can tell from their comments that they fundamentally don't get it. The attitude that it's hard to catch people in the act so that is what leads to crime is nonsense. What leads to crime is lack of enforcement and lack of punishment. I guarantee if you started giving anyone who committed one of these crimes a 5 year jail sentence on the first offense, 10 on the second and life without parole on the third, the break-ins would stop real quick. What's lacking is a will to enforce the law and hold people responsible. It's a lack of leadership and accountability.
Don’t you get it yet? The politicians want this to happen. You get what you vote for. Criminals know they can get away so it’s their holiday. Look in the mirror and really say these words: I’m doing this to my self and to my community. Once this actually sinks in then do the Right Thing.
Visited the pier in San Fran a few years ago. Went to dinner and one hour later came out to find our car rental got smashed and burglarized. They took everything, even our clothes and luggages. It totally ruined our trip and we swore that we'd never go back to San Francisco.

Have a friend who used to live in San Francisco. He re-converted his downstairs room back into a garage (former owner converted it to a room, without a permit). The pandemic and the lockdowns that followed has created more methheads, potheads, alcoholics and trailer folks in states all over ‘Murcia...sadly. America really seems like it’s becoming a third world country. 🚨 Time ⏰ for the politicians to stop being evil and greedy and GET CONSCIOUS as Mr. Ziggy Marley said/sings. That area is a hotspot for car burglaries. Lots of tourists thinking its a safe and visible area so that there won't be any car break-ins. Not true, it happens even in high foot traffic areas nowadays. The only place it doesn't happen often is near the north beach SFPD station. Crooks are less inclined to do car break-ins in the chinatown/north beach area I've noticed.
The crime in San Francisco has absolutely skyrocketed. People are literally getting carjacked or burglarized in front of their own homes in quiet suburban neighborhoods in San Francisco. This kind of violent crime has moved into the quiet suburban parts of San Francisco too.
@@user-zq3qd8ui5o It has!! Live outside of the city had my bicycle taken right from my garage in the afternoon. Except they will penalize us if we try to defend our property
They hit Stockton Street Parking Garage too because no security there. I am very sad what has happened to SF. When I was 18, it was much safer, wonderful five-star restaurants and a cool place to buy clothes for work or play. BART, Mayor and poorly motivated City Councils ruined it 1000% for everyone.
yup I always park my car in the Vallejo garage even during Sunday when street parking is free. It ain't cheap but way cheaper than a new window.
It could be because China gang is in charge in that area.
We tried everything we cut funding to the police dropped cases against looters, car thieves and shop lifters where did we go wrong?
I'd be in jail the rest of my life for what I'd do if I caught someone breaking into my car.
Like the POOP app, they should also do My car got jacked app. Or souvenir shirts "My Car Got Jacked in San Francisco".

Lol. Good point.
You might want to copyright that, just in case.🐼
Yeah 911 isn't for half a dozen felony vehicle burglaries all at once.

Well, at least they aren't stealing your whole car at gunpoint like they do in Chicago.
Go across the bay bridge and find out.
Recall all the politicians in SF
That’s where all the problems come from. Catch and release ! We need law enforcement!
I'm not holding my breath waiting for SF voters to dump the party responsible for this.
But I will continue saying "THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR!"
It's hard to explain to them so they would understand. They will point the finger at everything else before they would admit that.
The longstanding rule in Seattle is NEVER leave anything in your car. And that means nothing, nada, nyet, zip. Be prepared to schelp everything with you or leave it at home.
I saw a break in occur on haight street, the police were sitting right there, I wouldn’t be surprised if they witnessed the whole thing, didn’t do anything. The victim ran up to the police frantic from the occurrence, the officer didn’t do anything accept try to calm the victim down.

The police haven't been defunded. BLM hasn't got anything they wanted. The racist drug war is still going on.

It’s vandalism as well. They just break windows and damage new or nice cars for no reason.
