    Hey well done Iv been painter for 32 yrs and always building bikes last one a 1986 klr 650 A1 .I streerfightered a Honda pan euro st1100 last year Any way my point was when you come to put a skimming of filler over the unit it will crack with vibration ..I suggest you use 1 part glass fiber (bridging filler) 2 parts upol plastic padding ..slightly harder to sand but you will be able to twist.pull even jump on it any no crackingKeep up the good work oddballz .Whitley bay

      Thanks buddy, am using the upol stuff for the skin on this, the shape of the panel so far seems to have made it extremely rigid, there's very little, if any, flex in it whatsoever and with the struts and frenched light tube that are gonna be glassed in to i underneath later, it's gonna end up completely rigid like a box, so I'm pretty confident in the final finish, I've always used flexible filler, cos like you say, on bikes, it's so easy for it to crack... thanks for your kind advice, I will take it all in to consideration as I go forward, it's much appreciated....

    You can mix fiberglass dust from sanding in with your resin to fill small holes.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 лет назад

      aha, stay tuned buddy, I got a video planned shortly of actually recycling filler dust to make more filler... mainly because I heard a tip where someone mentioned using talcum powder and resin to make filler, I've always known about fibreglass dust, they even sell it as bridging filler ready made... ok, that's not strictly dust, it's more like loose fibre glass shavings, but good tip, great to share these things, it's how we all learn aye!

  • @ahshotdown1535
    @ahshotdown1535 6 лет назад +4

    Probably left it too late again but you can use the fibreglass resin instead of car body filler, just mix it up with ordinary talcum powder to the point that it wont run. Its easier to apply will give you less pits and when sanded results in a much stronger smoother almost glass like finish. A Portuguese boat builder taught me the technique years ago and I've never used the likes of Isopon since.

      Hi buddy, I love those kind of tricks, I've used the powder from sanding of filler, whicih as you'll see in the next video, amounted to a whole dustpan full! That works really well too... and also I've heard cement powder, but I guess it's just anything to give it body... thank you for sharing, hadn't thought of talc, bet it would smell nice too lol - much appreciated mate...

    We do it that way on a lot of old cars we've painted over the year ..tvr's , lotus's and we now use it in plastic wings Reno n all the bumpers .but keep going as far as I can see doing great job I'm looking forward to next year of this build haha ..oddballz

    When you use clay..what did you do to make certain where the tabs on the fairing go?

    Looking good buddy.
    A.H.Shotdown comment below is good advice.
    Talc and resin for filler, or used fiberglass powder is better used than car body filler.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 лет назад +1

      Cheers buddy, I've done that myself before using the sanding dust, in the next video at the weekend (still editing), I had a whole dustpan full of filler sanding powder and they'll be plenty more where that came from lol !

    I got the intro to you thru your interview with the Missenden Flier! Fascinated now. I did a rebuild of a Ford Pop years and years ago using most of the techniques you’re using on the seat frame. Tough to get it smooth but your patience is to be recommended. You wear the face mask but what about the residuals? I worked in chem labs for a number of years and so why don’t you consider some form of retractable extraction unit over a workbench, especially if your going to be doing lots of sanding etc? Just a thought. Again, fascinating and I’m learning so much. Ride safe.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 лет назад

      Hi Doc, you are of course dead right on the residuals, but it is just a regular garage and it's a colossal investment to start installing extraction systems, perhaps one day as things roll along I'll be able to justify the outlay... glad you found us, welcome aboard, and hope you enjoy the videos, all the best, Del

    Cant wait for filler and paint, I guess it's mounting points first though, what about a comfy seat?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 лет назад

      Hey buddy, in that order, you must have guessed! It's a think layer of filler just to stablise the panel up next, nothing finished, or fancy, just a layer, then in the following video a strut so I can start to think about mounting it on the bike, but as for a seat, I think just a leather pad will be fine, the less the better !

    Hi, I have a 2003 1200 bandit which I've had for 18 months, Its 'had a flat spot of varying degrees from day 1. As I accelerate from an idle sometimes it will stall completely leaving me sitting at the lights, other times it seems to run on 2 or 3 cylinders for the first 5 to 10 minutes of my commute. Motor's fine,K&N filter, recent sigma jet kit fitted, standard exhaust, been to many mechanics including Suzuki dealer for several weeks who said 'it's just the nature of the beast'. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Jon.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 лет назад

      Hi Jon, sorry to hear about this, what you're saying is you're having a flat spot just off idle and it's bogging down... I'm just interested in your breathing system, K&N filter's cool no issues there, they don't really make much difference, but am not familiar with the Sigma jet kit - what parts did you change?? Was it needle and main jet, as with the Dynajet kit?? And was the needle that you fitted adjustable in height by having multiple notches at the top to mount it on?? And for what it's worth, those who said that's the nature of the beast, I respectfully disagree with that... Bandit's are not rough runners, they're a very smooth, and reliable, engine...and all the Bandit's I've ever had have never had a flat spot, but it IS curable mate... am also interested as to why you changed the jet kit, as with a standard exhaust you shouldn't need to... and finally, if it does have an adjustable height needle, then it sounds tuneable, so perhaps a visit to a tuning shop, like Moore Speed, TTS, or Debben Performance, or anyone with a rolling road who can set it up for you.. that's probably all it needs mate.......... and I'm assuming all this on the basis that it's fully up to date on servicing and that your valve clearances are correct??

    • @jonjesberg9649
      @jonjesberg9649 6 лет назад

      Hi Del, I appreciate your reply & help & liked what you did to your bandit. I had my bandit 12 months & numerous mechanics visits in that time, carbies balanced & cleaned several times, compression test was good, valve clearance done, bike has only done 40000 klms. Then I put the American sigma jet kit in which consists of idle jet size 17, up from std. size 15, main jet #1&4 to102.5 & #2&3 to 105, I also replaced the float needles & set the floats. It still has the std. needles set at the centre of 5 positions & the mixture screws set at 3.5 turns. Since the above the bandit has been in mechanics shops for weeks & I believe one of the mechanics drilled the idle jets out to a size 20. I've since bought an 04 sv650s, I live in Toowoomba Australia, maybe I could seek out a performance shop further a field because I like the bandit. Thanks for your interest & help Del. Many thanks, Jon.
