Was it worth the $$$? What do you think?
At 75$ per hp? No...
No...pretty disappointing power gain, and, for 6k?!
I know this is 4 years old, but absolutely worth the money. Look at the gains from the lower RPM. You have about 80 torque gain at 2,000 rpm. For a bolt on kit, that's not bad at all.
Find out if the 3.8 has a Cast Crank first - the factory dyno cell tested the 3.3 version of the motor with a turbo, and nixed any plan to factory fit any after the Cast Crankshaft let go without warning.
If I won the lottery maybe. 6-7k.. Wouldn't it be cheaper to drop in a better engine/tranny?
This supercharger would be awesome in a 5th gen dodge caravan with the 3.8
Supavan
Sounds awesome!
3.8L JK is a great LS/Hemi swap
I would really like to put a HEMI in my jk
@@who9235 same
I'm Curious if I'm better off going for a used hemi swap versus getting all of this stuff . Intake, supercharger headers exhaust gearing etc
@@thriftsndreams6809 I’d look toward used Hemi swap personally. If you have a 3.8L these days chances are it’s tired and doesn’t want you to try and get v8 power out of it. Even with supercharger and other mods it’s no Hemi. The transmission is worth talking about too. Stronger option available for Hemi. LS is really good way to go too and requires about the same amount of effort. Another option is 505 performance built 3.8 engines they offer stroker models with more displacement and completely built internals. They basically bullet proof the 3.8. They can offer an assembled bottom end or a complete engine with different cam options and built for boost or not. The advantage of a built 3.8 in the case of 505 performance is that you don’t change the Jeep to support it so fewer unique parts and massive parts savings over a V8 conversion. Also can stay with stock trans.
@@JsGarage thank you so much!
Zachary Rice: I'm certainly no expert but I think the transmission is a non issue and the stock transmission will be just fine, however it's perhaps the stock front driveshaft that could be a problem and should probably be swapped out to a stronger after market one.
Did Sprintex ever address whether the Cast Crankshaft would hold up to the bost for very long? The factory dyno cell had a story of a 3.3 V6 popping with no warning with a factory prototype turbo install.
Is this the EGH 3.8v6?
Does it help the MPG or make it worse?
Can you share link for the kit to supercharge it
how does it compare to a stock 3.6?
Anyone know where to grab one of these
how much gas does it burn?
When I was looking for a Rubicon Unlimited, I wound up picking up a 2011 with low mileage, mostly because I didn't want to pay the $3-5K premium that the used 2012's where going for. Looking back on it now, it was the biggest mistake I made. I wish I could go back two years in time and slap myself up side the head and pony up the extra $$ for the 2012 with the 3.6 Pentastar. As others have said, $7K for a supercharger installed on a 3.8L, and you still don't have the same horsepower as the 3.6L. And I've seen what the superchargers on the 3.6 Pentastar will do. Just had to start all over with the tons and tons of upgrades and mods I've made on my 2011.
upupaepops i wouldve just spent the same money for a diesel swap or the 5.7 hemi swap.Makes more sense for the money imo.
SAME money?
@@lvmybears actually supercharger is all in all better than swap
@@lvmybears I'm with you on that one: SAME MONEY, 5.7 HEMI swap vs Supercharger, I'll go with the 5.7 swap... problem is, realistically, the HEMI swap would cost more.
How much? Plz send me the link?
I have a friend with a 2007 JKU with a Ripp and a friend with a 2014 JKU with a Sprintex. The 2007 with the Ripp or any 3.8 with a Ripp or Sprintex is a waist of money in my opinion. You can polish a turd all you want. At the end of the day its still a turd. However the 3.6 with the Sprintex is a beast.
Canadian Shield Expedition it’s still a turd
Would a 3" exhaust help that supercharger come alive?
the stock 3.8 is already at 200 hp, the charger should double the hp
What would be s better setup for a jeep as far as more power goes. This supercharger or a turbocharged jeep. Also what are the prices of both.
Nicholas Gontarz prices are about the same, turbo gives you more power at higher RPM while a supercharger is more low end. and there is lag with a turbo. For a jeep a supercharger is a better option. But neither will be as good as swapping the engine for a V8 (an LS3 in my case)
Connor B what is your opinion on a pro charger then?
Is it safe to install in jeep it's not going cause problems for the engine for extra power
Absolutely safe to install! -Zach
I’m looking at buying a 08’ jk with this supercharger on it. It’s got 103k miles and I’m buying through a dealer. I’m worried about long term reliability. Should I tell em to remove the charger?
I would see if you can find out how long the supercharger has been on the Jeep itself, and maybe take it to your local mechanic before purchasing to make sure it has been maintained properly. If the Jeep has been taken care of well, I personally wouldn't be too worried about it. Totally up to you though! -Zach
The RWD 3.8's are a 50/50 engine - 50% have blown up already, 50% never will.
So long story short... Trade in your Pre-2012 jeep in for one with a 3.6L lol 6,000 dollars and you still have less power.
Long story short. Don’t expect a Jeep to be fast. You literally r driving a brick
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha u read my mind
NOOBKING you are literally driving a dodge caravan (3.8L) which makes more power stock than a 3.8L jk
Lol anything thing older then a 2011 is a pos. What are you even talking about?
Does it put a lot of strain on the stock transmission?
Not with that small amount of power gain. If you were to install a super/turbo that produced a greater gain in power, you may have some issues later down the road. I think the first thing that would give out in this setup would be U joints or driveshafts. Maybe axle shafts if you spin your tires a lot.
@@txgamer1347 Nah, the Cast Crank will pop before the drive train.
Is there any internal parts to consider before adding this to a 3.8 or is it tough enough to handle the extra power?
Cast Crankshaft is the limit - the factory test dyno did a turbo unit, ran real well until the crank let go without warning.
Ballpark give or take few hundred...what could I expect to pay for this including mechanic labor?
Zdenek Stuchlik 7k
You think this supercharger would work in a minivan with the same engine...
Forsure it would work its the same engine
If it works on the 3.8, it'd fit on the 3.3 too, but watchout for the Cast Crank to pop under boost - that's why the factory did not do a factory turbo on these motors.
Hum. $6K+labor... Why not just duct the ac cold air into intake...thats an old school hot rod boost that works! A lot less $s and some added fun! Makes it feel more lively. Not a major hp adder but helps.
so the factory specs are higher than your first pull why is that?
Factory specs are probably from the crank. You could also blame they on power loss over the years.
No
Great contribution, thanks a lot for sharing.
I would r NOT recommend this Sprintex . I put 1 on my 07'' . It did not work . The supplied programmer would not work with the jeeps ECM . The tech people at Sprintex sold me another programmer for $350 , it didnt work . Sprintex tech was of no help and suggested I sell the supercharger to someone !
Noooooo !! save your $ and time . I bought 1 and wish I had not . Never could get it to work . Even bought a new "better " programer from sprintex , didnt work either . No useful help from sprintex tech support .
Pay a custom tuner to look at it, if not sell me the kit haha
Edelbrock Supercharger is much better Sprintex is not worth the price nor the effort.
The 3.8L is sh!t in design.
You won't need an SC to get it to throw a rod !!
