    You might want to check with a local shop but i'm almost certain you cant leave the exhaust dumping in front of the rear axle, it needs to be past the rear axle this is to keep exhaust fumes from coming back up inside the vehicle and casing you to pass out while driving. I could be wrong but worth a call happy jeeping:)

    After Super Charging my TJ both pre Cats burned out and clogged the main. I pulled everything apart until lastly checking the exhaust. 28lbs of back pressure at idle. Definitely wiser now, but seems like it's more common especially with Turbo/Super charged 4.0L. Keep spreading the Good Word with the Videos. Wish you made the 3 years ago! Cheers!

    Be sure that when you replace the O2 sensors you only use NGK / NTK brand sensors. The TJ is extremely picky about certain parts like the O2 sensors and no other brand works well, not even name brands like Bosch. Definitely don't use over the counter parts store O2 sensors.

We ended up donating the Jeep to charity, since It cost more to replace the Cat then the value of the Jeep; at the dealer, where Cali only allowed it to be purchased and changed.

      I would disagree. I have owned a 1995 YJ, a 2005 Tj, and 2015 JK. And grew up riding I’m my uncle CJ-3B every hunting season. Every generation has its high and low points. The JK is much better handeling and more comfortable on the highway, however the 3.8L v6 in the early JK is a. Piece of junk. the old L6 was much more reliable. The new 3.6l v6 is much better for reliability, but still doesn’t have the off idle torque of the inline 6. And don’t forget the YJ had those awful square head lights. For years I heard real Jeeps have round headlights. Like I said every generation has its high and low points

    • @JeepTJWheelin
      @JeepTJWheelin 4 года назад +3

      @@shadvan9494 I had an '08 JK X with that lousy 3.8 mini van engine. I now have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn and this is by far the best vehicle I've owned. As long as you get one with the 4.0L I6 with a Dana 44, 3.73 or 4.10 gears, you will have a very good TJ. In my humble opinion, these are the best Jeeps, second only to maybe a CJ-7. The low end torque is outstanding on these TJ's. They are quick especially if you have 32 x 11.5 15 tires. The bfg ko2 are great tires for these rigs. I'm sure the 3.6L are good but for me, there's nothing like a 4.0L. This TJ handles much better on and off road than my old JK. Of course, I put Rancho RS5000X shocks with a Curry Link tie rod and drag link that has this TJ handling extremely well.

      @shadvan9494 4 года назад +2

      @@JeepTJWheelin I loved my 05 TJ Rubicon. it was a great jeep. and I agree with you on the 4.0L L6. that was a great engine. the off idle torque was unmatched. the 3.6L v6 in my JK is not bad but it is not a good as the old 4.0L. I ran the BFG 32x11.5 KO2 on my TJ as well. great tire. My JK came with the BFG Mud Terrain KM 255/75R17. they were loud and they wander a bit at highway speed. I switched them out to BFG AT 285/70 KO2. (the metric equivalent of the 33 x 11.5) and they have been great! I am looking at swapping my factory shocks for the Old Man Emu's.
      on a side note, FCA is working on a new inline 6 with a turbo. From what I have heard it is based on the same design as the current 2.4L turbo 4 cylinder and will be able to work with the same electric drive systems available in the new Wrangler JL 4XE version that are coming next year. there is also a rumor that the 392 hemi V8 will coming in the new JL as well. also the new 3.0L diesel in the new JL is an absolute beast off road. but the price tag on a new wrangler with a diesel is painful.

      Summit can get huge fines for sending you a non carb cat to California - that's why they don't ship it here. We have strict air regs for a reason - it sucks for car ownership but the laws do work. Air quality has improved tremendously (and continues to improve) since its implementation. When my dad grew up he said the air looked green all the time and most days in the summer you couldn't even safely breathe the air outside. Now most days are clear and we have good air quality most of the time. It's all about what you value more at the end of the day

    Double check this but one of the causes of a bad catalytic converter is the engine running too rich. This can be caused by a bad O2 sensor. I would recommend replacing the O2 sensors, and get the O2 sensors from a Jeep dealership, or a 100% Chrysler sensor. I've learned the hard way about using non-OEM sensors.

      Excessive back pressure could cause the misfire, but I agree there are more problems here. Cats don't go back unless unburnt fuel or oil are getting into the exhaust. Like you said it could be coils or plugs, but I would also change the O2 sensors and check for oil consumption. O2 sensors only last 75k or 100k miles, maybe less.

    Check the catalytic converter and don't drive it at all. get it towed to an auto shop. My 91 XJ Laredo did the exact same thing and on the way to driving it to the garage the engine blew. silver metal rod pieces everywhere. Hope it all works out! To be a bit more clear, the catalytic converter had fail. I couldn't get over 30mph like yours. not understanding what was happening I ignorantly thought I could get it to a mechanic. edit.lol. i hadnt watched yet and wanted to get that info asap to you guys. You got it covered :)

    The same thing happened to my 09 JK Wrangler Cadillac converter stopped up. I lost power. You need to check your exhaust headers. Because it cost mine to crack and Brake bolts off exhaust header. My Cadillac converter fell apart to inside also. I think I'm going to have to change the O2 sensor. Because the engine light come back on still running a little rough. I think the Cadillac converter when it fell apart got inside your two sensors.

    Check for cracks in the exhaust manifold. It will cause the precats to burn out like yours did. My manifold cracked in the bend of #6 cylinder runner of the exhaust manifold.

    btw - I would replace the muffler too, those cat parts go there next. banging it with a rubber mallet and listen to the rattle. ALSO - that cat core is worth $$$. maybe $75-200 - dont throw away your exhaust - look online for place that buys them. they are filled with Platinum.

    These Jeep’s all have similar problems. Cats, transmission solenoid and plastic radiator that likes to crack. That’s the problems I’ve had with my LJ over 9 years at 130K miles.

    I had something similar and all it was, was a wire rubbed thru the sheathing and was shorting out on the dipstick tube...

    Good job Cassie, that was alot of work. It probably burned up the cats when Ben backed it into a dirt mound, don't let him drive your jeep anymore. Just kidding, Keep jeepin classy Cassie, those new tires are gonna look good on the jeep!

    Let me guess - P0032, P0038, P0052, and P0058 codes.
    I just did the same thing for the same reason over the Independence Day weekend. I replaced the O2 sensors as well. And installed a new oil pan to replace the old one that was almost completely rusted through. I might have the only 255K 4.0l with no leaks from the rear main (I did have a new seal in case the oil underneath was from that and not seeping from the pan.)

    if you put a vacume gauge on it and dont move the throttle at idle the vacume should remain constant,
    if it drops you have a plugged cat

    Uggh, I feel your pain. My TJ started stalling out and then died on me 2 days ago. It refused to start. It's at the shop waiting to be diagnosed and fixed. :(

      When I first got my TJ, bout five yrs ago it did the same thing. Stalling out at red lights, or when low idle or just stalling out at random times. Then would not start back up for about 5-10mins. Turns out the cause was just a dirty IAC. Cleaned it up real nice along with a nice throttle body cleaning. Been running like a champ ever since. Hope your is just something minor like mine was.

      @@soggyfries4347 my starter had gone bad. The Autozone testing I had done the day before was garbage and said everything was fine.
      For the stalling, I had just added a speedometer healing device for my super SYE which is electronic with a tone ring (not the gear driven kind). It wasn't working right and was causing the stalling since the PCM wasn't getting any speed data.
      It's all fixed and running great now!

    What state are you in that allows your exhaust to exit under the vehicle. I'm PA and our inspection laws suck.

    Exhaust gas leaking anywhere near the transmission can screw up the transmissions fluid viscosity… that will cause the vehicle to stop shifting suddenly when it gets warm.
