I Supercharged My 4cyl Jeep For Under $1000 And You Can Too!

  • I Supercharged my slow 4cyl Jeep YJ using junkyard and hardware store parts. The entire project cost less than $1,000. Over the course of 2 months we mounted the Eaton M62 supercharger and intercooler, bent custom PVC pipe, and developed an Arduino fuel/bypass controller. After 3 days of street tuning we took the Jeep to Moab UT and completed 3 days of hard wheeling. The plan is to provide a step by step instructional series for you to follow so you can give your 4cyl the power it deserves!

    Super proud of you!!! You did it!! You went and did it!! Cant wait for the controller video. Dont know if you remember me but I put a AMR super charger on my 5 speed XJ 2.5 and changed the pulley for more compression. I played with the resistance on the iac to trick the computer to add fuel but only works for a few seconds before it leans out.Mines a 5 speed so works great till I hit 5th and then leans out. Cant wait to see what you do for the controller. Keep up the great work! I also tried different resistors on the af sensor to try and trick it but is not responsive enough. It works but major lag on and off. As always you got my like and notifications is on.

    I’ve done 3 Jeep swaps and I’ll tell you, if I could swap a 6 in for $1000 bucks I’d do it tomorrow! A good 4.0 engine ready to run is about $900 and a AX15 is about $700. Now figure all the other components. Transfer case input, exhaust, radiator, wire harness, computer, drive shafts, motor mounts Ect. Ect. Moral of the story is you’re looking at closer to $4000 to do it right and make it dependable.

    As a half Century Jeeper, they do well stock. Some more than others. I generally avoid the 4 cyl. Because every drivetrain part is weaker than it 4.0 counter part. More power and big tires mean you better adjust your finesse or your tax bracket. That said, have fun with what you have and go straight for the 1 ton Chev parts every chance because that's the direction most end up going. 37s aren't even big anymore and more power and tire is where it's at.

    If the mods don't cost more than the car thats when you should be worried. 10 years ago a 4.6 new edge mustang would cost about 3 grand, and a supercharger kit, tune and support mods cost the same as 2 new edge mustangs. That's cheap speed. That's how it should be. I'm definitely a fan of budget mods too. Great video.

    I wonder if this could be figured out with the 2.4 as well, then you can throw in a cheap pt GT motor with forged internals, better compression for this, and use a supercharger instead of custom manifolds for a turbo, this is what I’m trying to figure out now. Because you could retain the PT GT intercooler and just put a bracket in pushing your radiator back 2 inches since they use an E fan.

    This is amazing and cool. I have a '97 TJ with a six but it's an automatic. I'm thinking about getting a 4 cyl. 5 spd Wrangler and doing the supercharger just for the fun factor!

    You look like your name should be Schubert. Good scientific name.
    However, being in Detroit with that name, I wonder what the survivability rate would be?

    So the SLK 2.3 Kompressor was made from 1996-2004. Is any year better than the other for the Jeep application?

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  9 месяцев назад

      The earlier models have the clutched m62 then they later went to the non-clutched m45. I used the m62 but a few guys are trying the m45 right now and it seems to be working for them

    Maybe you talk about this in a latter video but what about detonation? Is that what the intercooler is for? I put a turbo on a Camaro once and it was so important to have water injection.

    I really like your vids! Just subscribed this afternoon. So I'm looking into the possibility of the supercharger mod, along with the 4.0 TB, injectors a header, and upgraded the distributor, plugs and wires. Doing all of that would also require re-mapping the ECM, correct? Also, to get your supercharger pumping the 5# of boost would require a smaller pulley, right?

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  3 года назад +1

      Yea, I'll likely need a smaller pulley to get to 5lbs. And yes I do a bit of trickery with the ECM. That will come out in later videos
