I've had numerous comments over the years with requests to play tracks from Chrono Trigger so the game and its OST had been an intriguing prospect for some time, but having not played the game yet myself, I wasn't quite sure which track would be best to tackle until Jake suggested Secret of the Forest, which of course I loved immediately!
We decided that in addition to recreating the track as-is, as I usually like to do, that we'd try adding some of our own flair to the repeat - it's a departure for me in a way to deviate from the source material, but appropriate to start injecting more individual personality into the things I'm playing, now that I'm more writing-focused. I'm really pleased with how this turned out and really excited to be working with some truly wonderful musicians thanks to the internet. Enjoy!

I've had numerous comments over the years with requests to play tracks from Chrono Trigger so the game and its OST had been an intriguing prospect for some time, but having not played the game yet myself, I wasn't quite sure which track would be best to tackle until Jake suggested Secret of the Forest, which of course I loved immediately!
We decided that in addition to recreating the track as-is, as I usually like to do, that we'd try adding some of our own flair to the repeat - it's a departure for me in a way to deviate from the source material, but appropriate to start injecting more individual personality into the things I'm playing, now that I'm more writing-focused. I'm really pleased with how this turned out and really excited to be working with some truly wonderful musicians thanks to the internet. Enjoy!
You guys picked a beauty! Such an interesting arrangement, great work. Loved all the extra bits, especially the middle section and the high harp runs later on. You gotta put it on Spotify!
If you’re curious about more music from the game, I really recommend giving it a play-through. Yasunori Mitsuda broke himself scoring it, such is the gravity and scope of the story, which will have you in tears of both joy and melancholy, sometimes simultaneously. By the time you get to hear the track ‘To Good Friends’, you’ll feel like you’ve lived another life in dreams.
I really liked what you did with the more sinister tunes on your Song of Time album, so I’d be really intrigued to hear what you might do with some of the more dark and intense moments from Chrono Trigger. Oh, and Jolly Ol’ Spekkio of course… Oh, and Guardia Millennial Fair… Oh, and Corridors of Time… Oh, and Manoria Cathedral… Oh, and Memories of Green… Oh, and Schala’s Theme… Oh, and Creeping Through the Sewer… Oh, and Yearnings of the Wind… Oh and. . . . Well, you get the picture.
Honestly one of the best video game covers I’ve ever heard in my life. The arrangement and the added flair was mindblowingly good. Please do more!
You absolutely killed it. You amaze me actually. When you started shedding at the end it immediately made my eyes well up. Youve just gotten so breathtakingly good. Brava! I love the game and all it's music and many of your other covers are also my favorites but this takes the cake. Simply amazing. you've done such a good job. Everyone on the track is superb. You really killed it at the end too, it gave it such a flare lol. Just well done and thank you for perfecting your craft. It's brilliant to watch a master work at their craft

Unfortunately looks like Square Enix dropped the ball on the remaster. 😭Same team that botched Final Fantasy 8 remaster😡. Fortunately I still own the original PlayStation Chrono Cross discs. I can play it anytime on a PlayStation Emulator.

I love this piece from CT so much (I’m learning to play it on piano myself) and this is by far the best arrangement I have ever heard! Your own personal additions weaved themselves very well into the fabric of the song.

I had downloaded your composition on my phone from the Patreon application and I must say that I am in love with it. I have many times these days and I must say that I am still amazed by listening to it again and again. Jake's work is remarkable, it is calm, conveys good emotions. He's talented, it's crazy what he does. I would like to see him play live in concert or backstage. The accompaniment of T.J. is also very good, a good accompaniment, which makes good transitions.
As for Amy, I really like how you manage to keep the rhythm, the notes with your harp. It is also striking and remarkable. I am a fan and in love with this instrument. I would love to meet you or be able to support you again.
And I must pay a strong tribute to a person, of whom I do not know if she will see this message, in the person of Lexi. Wooo what a person, what an artist, sorry to put her aside but her passage to the flute transported me. Each passage touches me deeply, captivates me and transports me. It's timeless, in addition to masterfully, majestically and royally knowing how to string together and play two instruments at the same time. It's fantastic. If Lexi sees this message or can read it, thank you for this musical therapy, which sincerely did me good to listen to several times, even if it means doing it several times, I am not in a good phase but its interpretation and its way really captivated me and I'm grateful to him. I wish him the best.

I came for Jake Allen. Stayed for the song, which I do not know and don’t know the game. However I do know when I’m moved by music. This moved me to peace, and that ain’t easy. The playing is technically great, but that’s not scratching the surface of how spiritually touching this is.
Chrono Trigger has some of the best music of any videogame. I recommend checking out some covers of the Chrono Trigger main theme.

Chrono Trigger is slowly but surely taking over as my favorite game of all time, esp music wise, even vs Zelda OOT. Nintendo's antics aren't doing any favors for me either, as you just posted about. Which is interesting to note: Square didn't like Nintendo's antics either and found way more freedom with Sony and the Playstation.
