I honestly really like Super Pac-Man, and a lot of the times prefer it over Pac-Man and even Ms. Pac-Man. I think it doesn't get all of the recognition it deserves, even with the plug and play they made awhile back featuring it.
Y’know, to be honest. I can probably tell that this was somehow quite an underrated pac man arcade game seeing how different this one plays but also quite a challenge as well.
MLGoose TV I LIKE VERY MUCH CAPS AND GREEKLISH.THEY HAVE MANY ADVANTAGES (I DONT CHANGE NEITER CAPS NEITHER GREEK TO ENGLISH OR ENGLISH TO GREEK FONTS.HAVE A GOOD DAY
The Casio PV-2000 looks like the Sord M5 version at lease it shares the same graphics. The Colecovision version is ported from the Sord M5, but req. extra memory, so basicly it needs a Super Game Module to run. We also added the arcade charset to the ColecoVision version.
If you are going to play Super Pac-Man, you either play the GBC version found with Ms Pac-Man, the PS1 Namco Museum 2 (not the Japanese version as the game is not on there, Cutie Q is the replacement), or on the Wii's Namco Museum Mega Mix.
Just seemed like a missed opportunity though I wonder how hard it is to do an isometic pan for a game like that. When Namco ported "Marchen Maze" to the PCE, they had to change that from isometric to a regular top-view looking down as the player goes up the screen.
Christopher Sobieniak Namco was just lazy with the PC engine hardware... Although I can't think of any Isometric game on the PC engine (maybe my memory fails me at the moment) I've seen plenty of things far more impressive than an isometric perspective being done on the PC engine (like pretty much everything you see in Magical Chase) And well, I can only think of one thing that would prevent an isometric perspective from being done on the PC engine, that's the limitation of a single BG layer, but even then, there are workarounds, parts of the BG can be rendered in front of the sprites while other parts are rendered behind them, the problem is that there could be no texture behind the parts of the background that are rendered in front of the sprites, but there are also workarounds for that, you see, the PC engine can display one solid colour behind everything, you could make that solid colour a darker shade of the colour that covers most of the ground, and say that the part of the BG that the sprites are rendered behind of is in the shadows or something... So yeah, it could totally be done! I know Ys 4 isn't an isometric game, but it has tons of background elements rendered in front of the sprites, it uses both the trick I've just mentioned as well as sprites as parts of the background that go in front of other sprites, it's pretty interesting to see how they worked around the PC engine's single-BG-layer limitation
The flat ghosts were supposed to imply Pac-Man was flying over them? I never grasped that until now. As a kid, I thought it meant they were supposed to be "scared", or something. Really odd game. Unlike the smooth flow of the original gameplay, the locked doors make this game feel disjointed and erratic. Plus, it's weird to hear the "weee-oo, wee-oo" sound almost all the time. In the first game, hearing that noise meant you were wasting time, and should really get back to eating pellets! Midway releasing Pac-Man Plus a few months before this really cheesed Namco off. This was supposed to be the sequel, not that or Ms. Pac-Man! Between those two games, Professor Pac-Man, and Baby Pac-Man, it's no surprise Namco terminated their licensing agreement with Midway not long after. And it's funny that Ms. Pac, a hack of the original game created by Western developers, is remembered by everyone as the "true" sequel, whereas Super is mostly forgotten.
It's such a shame that the 5200's controller was so poorly made. If they didn't break so easily, the 5200 could be better appreciated for what it is :/ I think it's a fantastic system even with the massive amount of flaws. The controller really sealed its fate though.
Eric McHugh that's the version of Super Pac-Man for MS-DOS on a computer. They sometimes tried to make ports for games like this in MS-DOS and they would turn out crappy like this one looks. Terrible frame rates and bad colors.
I never see the point in showing the newer systems version of older games. We all know they will be 100% authentic ports. No offense to the makers of the video, I watch them all. I just see no point.
You are correct in your assertion. It is pointless. But you have to remember that Thousands of other people will watch this video & expect to see it. And trust me when I say " They will tell me that I forgot it if I don't add it." lol Damned if I do & damned if I don't.
This was a truly awful version of Pacman that loses the charm of the original. The thin walls make navigating more difficult. I haven't played this since the the 1980's, and there is a reason why people still love Ms. Pacman and not this game.

Good point! WAIT WHA-

Ahh. The memories of playing this whenever my parents took me to the arcades. Still one of my favorites.

Haha. It's been so long. I can't Remember. I don't even remember what order the levels are in anymore.

It's on the Game boy color ms pacman though

Can't believe how many different Pac Man games there are out there. In my opinion Ms. Pac Man is the best.
Not for me.
I honestly really like Super Pac-Man, and a lot of the times prefer it over Pac-Man and even Ms. Pac-Man.

Christopher Sobieniak i love that plug and play.
I have Namco Museum Vol. 2 and Super Pac-Man's port is the best home port ever!
+All Access Gaming I'm jealous....used copies are so expensive and Namco got lazy and didn't bother putting it on its PS2 collections.
That's because it's not a PORT. It's the direct rom of the arcade version
Y’know, to be honest.
I can probably tell that this was somehow quite an underrated pac man arcade game seeing how different this one plays but also quite a challenge as well.
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER PERFECT COMPARE :)

Great comparison. I was really impressed with the sound in the gameboy version. They really nailed those weird arcade sounds.

I played Super Pac-Man and it's not a bad game!
Unfortunately there's only ONE version of Baby Pac-Man. The arcade/pinball. Not to be confused with Junior Pac.
There are homebrew hack versions for the Atari 7800, 5200, Commodore 64 and NES.

Surprise this wasn't on the Atari 2600 despite how amazing Ms.Pac-man & Pac-Man Jr. looked on that system.
The Commodore 64 version sound so soft and relaxing! But C64 music can be a lot of times!

I can't believe it took fourteen years to get an arcade perfect version, and it took the Playstation to do it.
This is Jim. Jim's job is to convert Atari 8-bit games into Atari 5200 games. Jim has the easiest job in the world.

On the SORD M5, the "waka" sound is similar to the Pac-Mania one.

It shows the year of release in each version's title screen.
NOTE: The MS-DOS version is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO laggy.
And has no sound

its not lag.. the ms dos is so weak , pacman does not move the same as the other versions

I wish there was an Atari 2600 version.
Oh dang Atari! There Atari 5200 version would have been awesome if it was released!
This list is missing the very impressive ColecoVision version.
I think they got the idea for the Invincibility Star (Super Mario Bros.) from the Super Pellet (the green pellet).
The arcade sounds kinda like a Turbografx 16, I bet it uses similar wavetable synth for its sound
+Joey Ford Too bad they never tried for Pac-Mania on the PCE/TG-16.
Just seemed like a missed opportunity though I wonder how hard it is to do an isometic pan for a game like that. When Namco ported "Marchen Maze" to the PCE, they had to change that from isometric to a regular top-view looking down as the player goes up the screen.
At least Pac-Mania would've been more colorful on the PCE with its wider palette.
Christopher Sobieniak Namco was just lazy with the PC engine hardware... Ruko Michiharu At least Pac-Mania only uses one background layer at all without any additional multi-scrolling layers.
Does anyone realize that in the MS DOS version, the power ups last forever?!?! lol

Why does Pacman has a cape in the cover art in EVERY console?
It's because when he grows, it's actually him flying - that's why the ghosts get small and wider - perspective
Because hes "Super".
