This is exactly the type of video a makeup enthusiast, like me, wants to watch. I feel I am more interested now in makeup application principles and theory, and less interested in buying every new palette that comes out. I have bought so many palettes these last few years, but I can't continue to do that. I would rather learn the best techniques for applying what I already have. Thank you for making this video. I am excited to see more, if that is what you decide to do. Thanks Lisa!
Watching this video in December of 2022, and I feel the same way! The beauty community has changed so much on YT and not many people do tutorials let alone actual teaching videos anymore, but it's what I am looking to watch now more than ever!! This channel is my fav new find 🖤
She has a natural gift for teaching! I've always loved my teachers; ever since Kindergarten, lol. I can't think of a more important role than that of a teacher; regardless of what they are teaching 🌟
Thank you Lisa!! Im still with Mac but attended basic training 20 years ago. This was so refreshing and a sweet reminder of the basics. In the Mac way, which is what I know. Btw, they stop making the PK binder aka "Mac bible" lol. They made it like kind of a worksheet / paper book. But the leather binder was absolutely fabulous! I miss the old Mac days! 😊
I don’t understand how you don’t have at least a half a million subscribers! You are so knowledgeable, sincere, and a wonderful teacher! I, for one, need to know HOW to apply make up more than what to buy!
I can predict this video is going to have lots of views. You should make this a series. I love watching tutorials on makeup but not every youtuber has our face or eye shape. Knowing this info helps us customize makeup looks to what might look better on us. Thanks so much. This video really helped me a lot.
It's basically using moisturizing cream, highlighting foundation for creases and keeping your natural look but keeping it simple. Tip for lashes curl and apply mascara to ends of lashes let it dry and then apply mascara to your full lashes as normal. When doing liquid foundation use a wet/dampened sponge/beauty blender and press it in. I have to apply foundation when my face is fresh our of the shower in a steamy room. I have very dry skin so the more dampened it is the better the foundation sets. I use MAC mineralized cream foundation. I blend it in and then use my fingers to rub it in/off where it gets cakey. I use a brush and circular motion press it in then apply banana setting powder right away and it lasts so much longer. I use a peachy blush on lids and cheeks and keeps me looking warm n young.
Yes please! I’m in my early 50s but have much heavier wrinkling / crepey skin than these “over 40” ladies on youtube that makes eye shadow nearly impossible. I need more coverage than I used to but concealer and full coverage makeup settles in my heavy lines no matter how many tutorials I watch. These women don’t have jowels or deep marionette lines like I do. 😩 Please make a video for us ladies who don’t do botox or fillers or maybe just have bad genes or too much sun damage. I can’t even think about anything with shimmer. 😞 I’m about to give up trying to look nice anymore! I used to turn so many heads, now I only get hit on in my car with my sunglasses on lol.
Hi Lisa, you have beautiful eyes. I have a suggestion for you. I been a hairstylist for 32 years, and one trick I learned, to look at the height of eyebrows, and part the hair toward the higher eyebrow to balance out the eyes! You are gorgeous with out makeup. Please try it and see if you notice any difference.
Love this kind of videos! I miss the „teaching” side of youtube! More of those please:) And a big yes to a separate elaborate video on eyeshapes and eyeshadow techniques for them.
Fantastic idea! I appreciate the back to basics aspect. We have a lot of videos available to us on buying that by now we could all have a PhD in consumerism but there are not enough educational videos on "how" and "why" makeup application or technique.
Woot woot! I've never heard the flashlight theory. Now I get contouring. I've been a news reporter. A fellow reporter used MAC and the idea if wearing MAC has stayed with me. I've only worn eyeshadow. I went through the whole eyeshadow pallet. I don't have a place to get MAC so I am ordering online. Thank you!!!
Yes, this was a great tutorial. I am 43 years of age, and I have worked in the beauty industry for 20 plus years. I was a Retail Manager for MAC years ago. I would love for u to do more. Im excited about seeing and learning more from u. I often say as well, your never too old to learn. I would like to pick your brain on alot of things.....🤗
Yes we need more videos like this. They really would help and eye shape I believe would be great. I have small eyes and would love to know how to get the most out of my eye makeup
Lighting makes such a difference hence the reason I would imagine content creators are so particular in the use of special lights. Great information and I am really enjoying your Facebook Beauty Care Chats! Thanks Lisa! Kat
Hi Lisa, I have been learning the theory of makeup for so long & lost what matters most, which is (what do I like on myself & do it ). Trouble is I have aged & now I really want to work in the industry, or skin or theatre, etc. It is lovely to see how you have enjoyed your career.
Just recently found you. I mainly watch the mature you tube ladies because of my age (58), but I thoroughly enjoyed this type of "educational" information. I am impressed with your knowledge and how well you articulate the information. I will definitely continue watching and learning. Enjoyed!!
I have hooded eyes, and it is very hard to get eye shadow correct and the right color. The color wheel seems to give me a good clue on color. I'm still tying to figure out what brush goes where. maybe a brush tutorial would be nice.
I would definitely love to hear more on color theory. I really enjoy eyeshadow looks because I have lots of lid space, but I don’t always know what colors go well together.
This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and you did a FANTASTIC job! You were accessible, gave great explanation of concepts, and it felt like you were actually talking to me vs. a You Tube audience. I look forward to checking out more of your videos, and tutorials, as you are a strong teacher. Thank you for taking the time to create a video rich in content. :-)
Clearly I’m late to this, but I’ve recently found you and am binging all of your videos.. I’m hooked!! I also still love MAC.. Thanks for all of the knowledge!!
I loved this video and could have listened for much longer! Please keep them coming. Even if you have to break down each topic - it’s so worth it to watch. Very informative!! Plus - you’re a pleasure to listen to!! Thanks so much 😉
More, more, more...if nobody else is interested, you can do these for me!!! LOL!!! I am someone who always wants to learn more and I love the way you teach in all your tutorials...You always look so beautiful and I trust your recommendations.
This is the start of a dream come true for me.... Pro quality makeup classes!!! So, yes, oh, YES, please do more training videos! If you did one weekly, posted it to go live @ 5:30 on Monday morning, I would be here with bells on, lol. Actually, I really do crave the opportunity to take pro classes, but this is the closest I will ever get to that, and the fact that you teach MAC is golden. I’m very excited about these videos (could you tell?). I’ll be waiting, as patiently as possible, for your next one. I just love you!💖✨💖🤠
I learned so much! Wanted to let you know it was obvious how much time in planning you put into this script, as your final product was easy to follow and polished. Yes, please continue these type of videos, you are a MASTER at teaching! Go ahead and talk for an hour on contouring, we're not going anywhere! : ) Oh, Q for you...Is there ever a time / eye shape where a dark lid can be advantageous? (half lid) I like what a soft cut crease can do for my green almond peepers, I just seem to remember really great makeup days with a soft smokier eye lid. Is that possible? Thanks!
Lisa....I am thrilled....you are a wealth of knowledge...I am 73yrs young....I subscribed....I am going to watch, read, absorb...you are amazing...I have a round face...high cheekbones...fair skin...I have been a make up Junkie since I was about 6...thank you...
I love your info. Until I reached my 40s I didn't realize the importance of getting some lessons from the makeup counters and it has made all of the difference.
What an interesting topic, hopefully series. I’d really like to see techniques on applying shadows for different eye shapes. How to open, lift, elongate etc... please and thank you. 😊
This was great Lisa. I’m always eager to learn more. I appreciate any tips & tricks that will help with our makeup and also with any skin issues as well. You’re an excellent teacher and your advice is always very helpful. 🥰
Yes continue this series. The basics are so important. It is also good to refresh these tips and tricks. Sometimes a small trick can make a big difference. See you again real soon.
Yay Theory!!!!! This is EXACTLY what I've been searching RUclips for! Thanks so much. I learned so much!!!! Please make more!!!! I just want to do a better job at applying my makeup. Less clowny, more complimentary! LOL!💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you! I have done a few others since this video... all titled Mac Training Secrets .... you can find them if you search Lisa J Makeup Mac Training
This video absolutely blew me away! Thank you Lisa, I finally understand contouring and the color theory, especially regarding my eyes which is a challenge for me with slightly hooded & mature eyes. Thank you so much for sharing all of this very valuable information! You didn't have to but you did and that says so much about you.
I look forward to the series. I would enjoy more information about hooded, mature (50+) eyes. How to deal with fine lines and wrinkles when applying shadows. And, yes, I do use quality skin care products.
Virginia B. Garrett-Cannon I am 57🤦🏼♀️ with hooded eyes all my tutorials are geared toward hooded eyes with mature crepy wrinkly skin 😂 I know that we all have different shapes and different levels of hoodedness but maybe some of my tips and tricks will help
I’ve watched this video several times. I watched it when you originally posted it in many times since. I’ve stayed waiting for the rest of the series. Please do more like this w a specific topic for each video. That way you can go in depth and do a tutorial. I would love to learn more. Thx.
Lisa, this is truly one of the most informative contour videos I have seen. Excellent job and I hope you continue forward with this theme. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! 💄💄💄💄
You have amazing presence; a great smile and friendly tone are so much easier to watch than some other types of popular makeup content. Thank you for sharing!!
What a great idea and excellent info. I really struggle with my small hooded eyes, especially now that I am in my 50’s. I also struggle with finding the right shade of foundation.
I love doing makeup & always enjoy learning more. You never stop learning so please continue with these valuable lessons on makeup. Look forward to the next one.
Yeeessss! Please keep making these videos!! I feel like a lot of videos don't address the principles how you apply it to yourself and others! Love this!
Just discovered your training videos. Will share all of them with my 19 year old granddaughter who is beginning her journey as a makeup artist. She did all her friends makeup all through high school. Wonderful tips. Thank you. Hugs ...Sherry
omg this has helped me so so soooo much! I am 13 years old and have my mind set completely on makeup. Thank you so much for this video and i hope there are many more to come!! ❤️
Love this so much. The way you explain eye shapes and how you explain the do’s and don’s for each is priceless information! Thank you for sharing 🙋🏼♀️🖌️👩🎨👸
Thank you! I don't have many wrinkles and I look younger than my almost 58 yrs. I'm not sure how to best apply makeup, that compliments older women - I wear makeup and not a little amount and I think it's complimentary, but conturing is a little scary because I don't want to look too made up. Are there different rules for highlighting older women?
Kari B Gold you look beautiful Kari ! Age is just a number :) one of the best contouring tips is rather than for mature skin is find a flat matte bronze color and brush softly in hollows of cheek , around the forehead and underneath the chin to create definition where skin tends to soften . A pricey but excellent bronzer is the Guerlain terra-cotta bronzer. Shade 7 is a universally flattering shade . Hope that helps . I believe there are beautiful soft shades of highlighters in the guerlain family as well .
This is the first video of yours that I’ve ever watched, but I promptly subscribed... you have a wonderfully accessible approach to teaching concepts and techniques. Looking forward to watching more!
I am watching this in the spring of 2023. This is so interesting to me. I am an adult colorist (actual coloring) and the same theory applies in this craft. Maybe this is why i love both!!!
Thanks! at 50 I just entered an ULTA for the first time with friend yesterday! what a great adventure but soooo overwhelming. Help with undereye concealer and tips to 'look younger' is appreciated
Wow! This was an incredible video! So informative! You are a born educator, this is your talent among many others❤ My mom watched too and loved it! Please make it a series!!!! I want more!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ xoxox
I absolutely love your videos and I am so happy I came across them. Your videos are so informative and genuine. I love the way you apply makeup and love the way your personality comes through. Your video is a breath of fresh air!
Yes please continue to post informative videos like this!! I absolutely loved this video and learned a lot that I didn’t know! You explain it beautifully and make it easy to understand!! Thank you!! 😊
Thank you. I recently had a MAC artist help me with my shadows under my eyes and redness on my cheeks and forehead. She was brilliant when it came to the redness with a green tinted primer, but she convinced me to use a light concealer under my eyes. It sounded great, but in practice, it brought out crepey bags under my eyes that are not noticeable until concealer or foundation are used. I’m in my mid forties, and that concealer was more like an age revealer.
She has the cutest ears I've ever seen in my life. I didn't realize ears could even be cute. She will forever look youthful because of her ears. Well that and her flawless skin.
YES! Please do more of these...especially focusing on the various techniques for the different eye shapes. Would love to see you do a step-by-step demonstration of different looks. I'm new to your channel (as of today) so you may already have this. You can tell that you're a former teacher by the way you explain the theory and technique. As a former esthetician I am always looking fro new ideas, but you just reminded me that the classics are generally the best! I'm going to try all your tips right now:-)!
On goodness...yes please do more videos like this one bc it was awesome & not many beauty channels have tutorials like this with that have this kind of approach to them, the only thing I would change is spending more time on each thing & if it makes the video too long I would split them up more & give each area of the face or each subject (ie contouring, eyeshadow for each type of eye, & I would make a whole video{if you haven't already} on the color wheel thing) but like I said I absolutely love this idea of tutorial using actual training techniques to help your subscribers!!! Thank you so very much!!!
This was great! Yes, please continue the series! I love revisiting the science behind makeup and how to use this knowledge to one’s advantage!! You are so so awesome!! ❤️
This is exactly the type of video a makeup enthusiast, like me, wants to watch. What if you have small eyes and wear glasses?
Yes! PLEASE do more of these videos. I need all the info I can get when it comes to makeup. Love your videos!
Thanks Rachyl :)
Love this so much. The way you explain eye shapes and how you explain the do’s and don’s for each is priceless information! Thank you for sharing 🙋🏼♀️🖌️👩🎨👸
Plz more Mac tranning
Thank you :)
Yes, do more of this kind of video.
Thank you Debbie!
@@BLessed758 Thank you for your kind response!! I so appreciate your kindness and information! Jesus bless you! xo
Kari B Gold happy to help ! Blessings to you as well beautiful ✨
@@BLessed758 You are so kind! Thank you:'( xo
Yes!! Please share more in this series!! I love learning the best ways to apply makeup. This was fantastic! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for sharing.
Thank you Joleen! I am so happy to hear that! :)
Yes to more tips and tricks! It's good to hear that the MAC artists continue their training. The color wheel makes sense!
Thank you so much Karen :)
Great series idea! Useful because it isn't just showing how you apply makeup to yourself, but also includes a variety of feature types!
Thank you Maria! xoxox
Thanks! at 50 I just entered an ULTA for the first time with friend yesterday! what a great adventure but soooo overwhelming. Help with undereye concealer and tips to 'look younger' is appreciated
Thanks Kathleen! There have been a few requests for that, so will try and do a video like that!
Wow! This was an incredible video! So informative! You are a born educator, this is your talent among many others❤ My mom watched too and loved it! Please make it a series!!!! I want more!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ xoxox
Awww thank you so much Marine! :)
I absolutely love your videos and I am so happy I came across them. Your videos are so informative and genuine. I love the way you apply makeup and love the way your personality comes through. Your video is a breath of fresh air!
Awww thank you so much Lynn! xoxo
The best video i have seen. Contouring and highlighting now make sense. Please keep going.
Thank you so much Holly!
She has the cutest ears I've ever seen in my life. I didn't realize ears could even be cute. She will forever look youthful because of her ears. Well that and her flawless skin.
Lol, thanks Amy!
Awww thank you so much Cindi!
Please do a little series on MAC makeup techniques..I absolutely love these kind of informative makeup videos.
Thank you! I actually have my next one planned for this Thursday. :)
Yes LOVE this series. Tutorials are one thing, but if you lack the fundamentals, you can’t do anything with them.
This was great! Yes, please continue the series! I love revisiting the science behind makeup and how to use this knowledge to one’s advantage!! You are so so awesome!! ❤️
Aww, thank you!!! You're a mom to 4? You are awesome! xoxox
