A nice tip I got from a Dior makeup artist is to not tap the brush, but to gently touch it to the back of your hand. This ensures you get no fallout, while retaining more pigmentation on the first go. Hope this helps anyone that might find tapping wasteful or that it reduces pigmentation by a lot if done vigorously. Obviously, different formulas will have different pigmentation and fallout, but this tip has helped me a lot - especially when working with slanted brushes to do liner work with shadow.

Give me an ALL SHIMMER moment!! So many people feel that that's not acceptable!!! Everything is acceptable in makeup!!! You are so helpful! Blessings to you, Alex!! ✌️💚🙏
My tip for those struggling to learn their eye shape and where to place shadows - have a detail hand-held mirror for blending, but also stand in front of a big mirror to see the effect it gives on your whole face.
I just stumbled upon this video as I’ve rocked a bare face for the longest time and am now just getting into makeup. I just about gave up as I was struggling a LOT with the techniques that appear so effortless in videos. I REALLY appreciate the level of detail you put into this. Your personality is refreshing and reassuring, and you touch upon ways to overcome all the key struggles I was dealing with. Thank you for your content!
Try just one color! You can lay a piece of folded tp from the corner of your eye to the end of you brow. Pick a shade that matches your bronzer or contour shade and start with a fluffy brush all over the lid. Then use the exact same shade with progressively smaller/denser brushes as you work towards the outer edge where the tp is. Once you take the tp away you can use the fluffy brush again to blow out the edge a little if you don't want it so sharp. Can't get muddy with one color. 😉💗
This is hands down the best makeup tutorial for beginners I have ever seen! I love how well you describe why you are doing the things you’re doing and reminding us throughout important steps that you repeat. Thank you! This is awesome!
The Fenty eye primer is BOMB, non-sticky and perfect amount of coverage, my eyes are so oily they crease with other primers, but not that one! Fab tutorial as ever xxx
I also love the Fenty eye primer as well! I have super oily eyelids and it’s the only one I’ve found that keeps my eyeshadow from creasing. However, I’ve found it INCREDIBLY sticky which is why I won’t use it sometimes. Maybe it’s my eye shape, but it’s so uncomfortable on my hooded eyes when it starts to dry that I rush through my eye makeup to make it not so sticky
It's really nice that someone finally thought of that. I remember that when I've started learning how to put on makeup (it was circa 2019) there was a ton of very complex looks but it was hard to find videos on basics so there was always this: "this is such a simple look just put thoes rainbow eyeshadows and blend them" yet noone bothered to show how to do it. I'm happy that even though you are so good at makeup you still think about the beginners. ❤️
Thank you so much. I've watched quite a few makeup tutorials but you are the first person to explain why you use certain shades in specific places. Thank you again.

Such a great tutorial! Also another good tip that wasn't mentioned... is to keep both eyes open when doing eyeshadow. Alex naturally does this, but it was something I had to train myself to do especially when trying to work on hooded lids and get the shape I wanted without it making my eyes look more downturned. 😍

It looks beautiful and it's nice to see because sometimes I start to feel like I'm doing something wrong, that I don't look like I'm plastic once my makeup is on. Also, I would love a video on blending colors! I'm fairly confident with blending, mostly when dealing with neutrals, but I feel a bit intimidated with colors.

You do such a stellar job explaining makeup application and I always appreciate that your videos get right down to business. It feels very appreciative of your subscribers’ time and attention.❤
This is really useful! Lot's of "easy eyeshadow look" videos out there, but no one takes the time to really explain the absolute basics of what you're doing and why
Thank you so much for this video! Excited to try it out. I'd love it if you made a colorful version for us in violet / purple! 💜 These shades make my hazel eyes ✨POP✨ but I'm so afraid to use them and look like a clown.
Thank you so much for these in depth tutorials! Even if you're experienced with makeup, you still catch something new from watching. Anyone who says intricate makeup application isn't art likely doesn't understand makeup or art. Imagine if someone asked you to take a very simple drawing of a face and add shading to it so it had natural shadows and light instead of just being flat. That's kind of what you're doing on your own face when you apply makeup, except you're doing it on a 3D surface and just enhancing the shadows and light that are already there. But it's difficult, time-consuming, and takes practice to get right, just like creating realistic, seamless shading on a sketch takes practice. Don't be too hard on yourselves, RUclipsrs have tons of practice, make it look very easy, and usually edit their videos so it seems like the process isn't taking nearly as long as it actually is. This is probably why most days I just stick to one color and blend it out 🤣
I don’t personally do the traditional “shape” of eyeshadow for my monolids (just looks odd w/ no crease lol) but the tips are still applicable and you’re such a great teacher as well!
@@hopefulforhumanity5625 I prefer warm neutrals, corals, peach etc for my light olive skin! For shape I recommend starting to look at K-pop/East Asian makeup looks. Most examples will probably have double eyelids but the shadow placement is different. Darker shades still on the outer corners but instead of making a crease where there isn’t one, the definition is created by placing those colors nearer to the lash line of that makes sense. The biggest Game changer for me was figuring out that the most flattering eyeliner shape for me is more straight rather than than upturned-it gives a cat eye effect that enhances my natural eye shape instead of trying to create a different one. Whew sorry for the essay! TLDR: follow East Asian makeup trends. They know how to flatter Asian eyes much better than most western makeup artists
Hey Alex! I’m a long time viewer, and I love how you balance the bright or bold colors in your eye tutorials! I’ve been wearing makeup for 30 years now, and I’ve been having fun with it for 15. I used those ridiculous sponge applicators that came in my palettes for the 1st 15 and used my fingers since 2009. I’ve been using brushes and creams a LOT since watching your videos, and while I’d say my eyeshadow is pretty on point now, I’m struggling a little with brushes for the REST of my face! Would you be willing to do a tutorial or just correct brushes for everything? You have all the info out there already, but it would be insanely helpful if you could maybe put it all in one video???
I love watching your tutorials! You are so beautiful and explain everything we need to know. I like how you zoom in and out, speak slowly and are easy to understand. All of this helps me to remember the awesome lessons you are teaching us. Also, thank you for using affordable products. ❤😊

THANK YOU for explaining what a transition shade means. I hear so many technical terms in makeup tutorials and I have no idea what they mean. Appreciate you!
This is a really beautiful look and your explanation is so helpful. You’re an excellent teacher! This may be a dumb question, but would this qualify as a cut crease? I would love to see you do a similar tutorial demonstrating how to make your eye colour stand out. (I have a theory that I use, but I’m interested in seeing how you’d do it.)
Yes, I think because the shimmer shade goes up above the lid into the crease. You don't need to use a concealer to cut the crease, the old school way of doing it, is pretty much what you see here.
In my opinion it's really more of a halo eye because the "spotlight" is right on the middle while the corners are darker. If I wanted to find more looks like this I would not search for cut creases. I have seen a makeup artist refer to just about anything with a shimmer laid on top as a cut crease though. 🤷♀️
Thank you sooooo much for this video ☺️ I have watched hundreds of makeup video tutorials but my favorite thing about you video is the really close up and the way you described how to do it.

Give me an ALL SHIMMER moment!! So many people feel that that's not acceptable!!! Everything is acceptable in makeup!!! You are so helpful! Blessings to you, Alex!! ✌️💚🙏
The brush sounds, the voice, the advice. Nothing and no one will ever replace Bob Ross but this comes close to it. ❤️
My tip for those struggling to learn their eye shape and where to place shadows - have a detail hand-held mirror for blending, but also stand in front of a big mirror to see the effect it gives on your whole face.
Yessss i do this too
Love this tip, it really makes a huge difference! Ty for sharing!
Love this! I always love the outer V “wing” you do on your looks with eyeshadow because I could never do it without it getting muddy 🥹
I'm having the same issue
@@krisdiane (I’ve been known to use my ATM card to get that look when there’s a tp shortage!)
The camera quality and lighting on this video is insanely good!
Thank you so much. I've watched quite a few makeup tutorials but you are the first person to explain why you use certain shades in specific places. Thank you again.
I’ve been wearing makeup for over 25 years, but eye looks are the one thing I don’t venture out with very much. I always admire people who do creative and varied looks, but I never invest the time to do those. Even so, this video was super helpful, even being “basic”. Can’t wait to see more videos like this, Alex. Thank you very much for your awesome content - we appreciate you! ❤️🥰❤️🥰
🎉🎉❤❤ At 56 I have seen so many beginner videos. I now have the most fabulous looking makeup using my favourite makeup. I can’t thank you enough. ❤❤
THANK YOU ALEXA I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN AND I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOU I THINK YOU'RE GORGEOUS I LIKE THE WAY YOU TEACH PEOPLE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH ♥️
Your eyeshadow videos have truly helped me BC I have deep set eyes But NOT REALLY HOODED! and there aren’t enough eyeshadow videos about it! Watching how you do your eyeshadow HAS TOTALLY HELPED ME!!
I love the fact you have texture to your skin, no filter and just amazing tutorials, applause 👏
We need more of these ridiculous ❤️❤️in depth eyeshadow tutorial. These are the difficult ones.this is by far the best in depth eyeshadow tutorial.i recommend this to everyone
I just love how real you look in videos if that makes sense? I can see your skin, I can see you're wearing makeup.
Cause you can see her face texture and pores, which doesn’t mean she has a bad skin (the opposite of that), but it means she doesn’t use filters. Only good lights 🤣
I’m jealous of your skin clarity and texture. It looks so soft! You’re beautiful. ❤❤❤
I was always too scared to play with eye shadow since I had no technique or foundation (pun intended)
And it felt like most tutorials required people to have some technique down already…
so thanks for posting something like this for complete ✨noobs✨ like me
😭🌸🙏🏽
This is the very first time in my life that I witnessed an amazing tutorial with explicit details and direction. Thank you so much for this beautiful demonstration. You are amazing, I bought the palette, now just praying I can do it half as good as you did.
ok u literally post specific tutorials exactly when i need them, ur a blessing. i don't really watch makeup youtubers but ur the only exception. i've learnt so so much from u, especially how to work accordingly to my features. thank u sm alex
Probably the best blending video I've watched!! Thank you..btw..you are a natural beauty & u showed how the makeup just enhanced that.

Alexandra, this was excellent! Please do as many tutorials as these as you can, for everything! For different eyeshadow techniques, including smokey eyes (black, blue, brown, green, burgundy) which is intimidating and other types that professional makeup artists do and we never learn how to do... You're a terrific teacher, I really am learning a lot from you! Thank you so much!!!
I literally almost never “like and subscribe” but you just seem so calm and patient and knowledgeable that you’re just gonna be it for me now for all things makeup. The fact that you didn’t even ask really cemented that chill factor ❤
Love how you created this WITHOUT eye liner 💝🙏
I was so happy, and surprised, to see you whip out the exact Elf palate I have! This will make it so much easier for me.
I loveddd this tutorial ,I usually don’t leave a comment but nobody does such an in-depth tutorial and it was zoomed in to see it clearly ! Loved it ! The best I have come across. Can you do more of tutorials like this in real time. And also in-depth of brushes needed . Palette for different skin tone and eye colors. It would be super helpful for beginners
U know, I watch u all the time & I’m not sure we [gestures widely] appreciate your eyes as much as we should. Damn, your eye color is beautiful & incredibly unique. Gorg!
How Alex makes her videos:
1/2 cup of what everybody needs
1/2 cup of humble expertise
Gently fold in 1 cup of total chill
Sprinkle self-deprecating humor to taste
Enjoy🍦
You just popped up on my feed & I decided to watch. Very helpful ❤😊
I finally saw the blending thing I gave up on eyeshadow 50 years ago it always went too far to my ear I just did not know where to stop. Your step by step method has clarified the whole thing! Thanks I have signed up and I look forward to watching all of your videos. PS your skin is gorgeous! Even your pores look amazing.
I love the way you explain things and how real you are in-front of the camera. You be yourself and it feels like you’re talking to me as a friend :) I’m doo-doo at eyeshadow so your video is super helpful for me, thank you heaps!
Yes!! Advanced version please :))
My dream is perfecting those burgundy/berry deep eyeshadow looks. Now everyone is after neutral-nude looks, which is fits for all type, but it’s getting boring sometimes. I watched your older super interesting color tutorials and I would definitely love to see more ❤️🔥
This was so great to see exactly how you build the color in the crease. I have slightly hooded eyes so this detail about the color in the eye socket was great! I would love to see color as I do have a lot of pallets with colors in them but I am never exactly sure how and where the color should go. Thanks 😊
I absolutely love that you use affordable products!! My jaw dropped when you said LA Girl!!!
This is exactly the sort of instructional make up video I’ve needed, usually I find them so complex but this? 3 colours, clearly showing exactly where to place and how to blend, Ive always been adverse to eye shadow but through your videos I’ve been working past the fear!
I would love a follow-up involving color. Really, I'm going to watch anything you choose to teach us.
Tbh all I need from beauty on RUclips is you and Wayne Goss. I always learn something new and feel better after. Not shilled at, not performed at - just shared with. Appreciate ya, Alex, you are true blue.
Thank you for sharing tips that most people DON'T share.. I've definitely improved my makeup since YOUR specific video. Not the others.
All shimmer? Yesssss please! 😍😍😍
You Are A Natural Beauty! Awesome Tips👍🏽❤️🙌🏽
This is by far the best tutorial I have come across so far that explains how to properly blend!! It was detailed and extremely helpful!! Thank you!!
We TOTALLY need a color tutorial because I can do natural looks but I have a harder time using color. Choosing colors is hard, but it isn’t the hardest part for me. It’s placing the color for me and I’d love to get a good explanation on how to get placement down!
Thank you so much! You are an amazing teacher! I have problem knowing when to stop. I find a pretty pallet and then want to add all the colors!! The beautiful blues and green so intimate me!!! Thank you for helping!! Great tips! Sunscreen breaks down shadow!!
Neue Abonenntin gewonnen. Gefällt mir der Look & vor allem wie Du was vorstellst. Einfach realistisch & ohne Filter. Das gefällt mir. Gerne mehr davon, bist Klasse👍🏼👌🏽😊
I have been following several makeup tutorials for years and yours by far is my favorite. I love your personality and how articulate, funny and wonderful you are. Keep up to give us more make up tutorials. I’m all here for it! Xoxo
I cannot express how much I’ve needed this. How do you decide where to stop at the outside edge? I find that I can never decide how far out is too far. But truly, thank you so much for this. And, yes, I’d love to see how to blend in a bit of blue-green. Thanks!
Finally a tutorial that actually taught me something! I love that you explain stuff as simply as possible. Like how you explained where the crease is in the hollows of the eye where the skin wraps around the eyeball, lol. I seriously learned so much from this one and the advanced color eyeshadow tutorial. Thanks a bunch 🤗
loved this and would so appreciate learning how to blend colors without them looking muddy. 💜
This is the best tutorial for eyes I’ve found, thank you! With your camera zoomed in close on your eyes was appreciated. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!
I love these in- depth tutorials. Alex’s explains it perfectly ❤
You do such a stellar job explaining makeup application and I always appreciate that your videos get right down to business. It feels very appreciative of your subscribers’ time and attention.❤
Yes, a colorful version would be GREAT! Thank you for doing beginner tutorial s!
OMGosh I'm 51 and this is THE BEST informative video I've ever watched (and I've watched a ton)! Just fabulous! I'm excited to use these tricks! ☺️
This is really useful! Lot's of "easy eyeshadow look" videos out there, but no one takes the time to really explain the absolute basics of what you're doing and why
This was incredibly helpful! The super close up shot was invaluable, and the editing was hilarious. Thanks so much!!
Super helpful. Love the side by side too. What a dramatic difference! Thx!
Thank you so much for this video! Excited to try it out. I'd love it if you made a colorful version for us in violet / purple! 💜 These shades make my hazel eyes ✨POP✨ but I'm so afraid to use them and look like a clown.
I would love for you to do an all purple . I wear a ton of purple . Mainly because it's my husband's favorite color .
Hey 🥰👋 so excited for this one!! Love this type!!
Hope it's helpful!
Louise, what colors/ shape do you do?
@@hopefulforhumanity5625 I prefer warm neutrals, corals, peach etc for my light olive skin! For shape I recommend starting to look at K-pop/East Asian makeup looks. Most examples will probably have double eyelids but the shadow placement is different. Darker shades still on the outer corners but instead of making a crease where there isn’t one, the definition is created by placing those colors nearer to the lash line of that makes sense. The biggest
Game changer for me was figuring out that the most flattering eyeliner shape for me is more straight rather than than upturned-it gives a cat eye effect that enhances my natural eye shape instead of trying to create a different one. Whew sorry for the essay!
TLDR: follow East Asian makeup trends. They know how to flatter Asian eyes much better than most western makeup artists
You just opened my eye with the soft wing.. I finally could see the 3D illusion that eyeshadow creates.. Now I understand what I need to do. Thanks!
This was so helpful!! Especially using smaller brushes for darker colours.
I always go overboard with the dark colours and end up looking like a muddy panda in the end
I’m one of those people that love eyeshadow palettes but suck at applying them. Thank you so much for this video, makes so much sense and can’t wait to try it!
Love your tutorials! Can you do an eyeshadow tutorial for far set eyes next? TY!
THANK YOU for explaining what a transition shade means. I hear so many technical terms in makeup tutorials and I have no idea what they mean. Appreciate you!
Something that would be so useful is a tutorial for blending matte neons. They always give people a hard time!
Yes. I would love to see purple and green both blended. Thanks
@@cinemaocd1752 Thank You! That’s what I was thinking.
In my opinion it's really more of a halo eye because the "spotlight" is right on the middle while the corners are darker. If I wanted to find more looks like this I would not search for cut creases.
I have seen a makeup artist refer to just about anything with a shimmer laid on top as a cut crease though. 🤷♀️
@@krisdiane Oh, you’re right, now that I’m looking at it on my phone, I can see it is a halo.
Thank you sooooo much for this video ☺️ I have watched hundreds of makeup video tutorials but my favorite thing about you video is the really close up and the way you described how to do it.
Thanks for this!! I've been trying to blend better but my eye shape is a little strange, this helped!
Thank you so much for this breakdown. I cannot tell you how many infographs, books, and videos I have combed through to understand what blending should look like. I'd definitely be interested in a video on adding colors.
P.s. ur skin looks INCREDIBLE today..😍🤩
😭 Thank you love! 🙏🏼❤️
@@AlexandraAnele I was going to say the same thing! May I ask what foundation, highlighter and blush combo you used in this video??? It's looks incredible😍🙌
THANK YOU!!! I have always wondered why my colors fade so easily. I appreciate your tutorial! ❤️
Yeeeesssss!!! Purple! ❤
