I am now retired and I could probably be considered as an obsessed knitter. I knit at the very least 8 to 12 or more hours per day, every day, depending on what needs to be done in that particular day. I have the advantage of not having to do the cooking since my husband is a retired chef. So free to knit after all the necessary household duties are complete, then I sit and knit. I do go for a couple walks each day, one walk in the morning and one walk in the early evening. So I can say for sure, that knitting is so very important for keeping me busy each day.

I learned to knit socks by watching The Crazy Sock Lady’s vanilla sock 9inch circular needles tutorial. It is fantastic. Caution: sock knitting is very addictive and I love it so much!

hi Bonnie! I’m a brand new knitter and I worked on my practice swatch while listening. I loved this knit and chat. I loved hearing about the dance classes -something you do besides your full time job. It’s fascinating! I’d love to take a beginner ballet class . I do a lot of athletic things like rock climbing, running. I just started taking tennis lessons which is fun. And joined a knitting group in which the shop owner teaches.
I loved this discussion of goals. I have loose ones since I just retired early. Tennis lessons and knitting lessons were two of my loose goals.
    I’m really enjoying your videos!

My goal this year is to focus on knitting from my stash. I know a lot of people say that but I actually sat down the other day and wrote down what I had bought for making sweaters and I realized I had yarn for 15 sweaters which kind of horrified me. The problem is I love to plan out yarn for sweaters and then I doubt I have the skills to actually make the sweaters to fit how I want! I've made several sweaters that have taken me SO LONG to knit only to have them not turn out the way I want (usually way too big) and I haven't had the skills to figure out why...but I'm happy to say that the two I have on the needles now are fitting A LOT better than previous ones and now I have the confidence to tackle a few more on my list!

Bonnie, btw I started a Booktube channel about a year and a half ago and it really is fun looking back after a yr. Especially at any goal or intention videos!

I think balance is fluid, requiring adjustments from time to time. I put knitting away for years at a time, raising a family and working a demanding job would just not allow it - no time or energy for it. I kept all the gear from the 70’s when I started and I now celebrate recent retirement with full on obsession and complete abandon. One of the very first things I did on retiring was to sign up for a ballet class! It’s such great exercise and makes me feel young. Welcome to the Tube. I’m enjoying your style very much.

I agree, balance is more of a moving target depending on where your life is at the time. Right now I have the time to knit a ton but I know that won’t always be the case and I’m trying to enjoy it and learn as much as I can while I can. I love that you signed up for a ballet class!!

I am enjoying your podcast and am excited to watch you grow and develop as a Podcaster.
As someone who has been knitting for 60 yrs, I did not try sock knitting until 2007. Socks are addicting. Although these tutorials did not exist when I began my sock knitting journey, I would highly recommend The Crazy Socklady tutorials by Kay Litton. She has tutorials for 9" circs, dpns, and magic loop, so you could see what each type is about and then choose. She also has a very good Vanilla sock pattern for both fingering and dk yarn.

The “Sugar Plum Fairy”! That’s sooo cool!! I was crocheting on a project while listening and it was just like sitting with a friend working on projects 😊💖 Keep them coming but definitely don’t get burned out 🥰

Goals are fun for me and not stressful because they are based on being fluid….so I guess they become conditional goals based on life! I find if I don’t have goals I become too sporadic and that does stress me out! I guess I need to be grounded in a positive way! ❤

You should knit some ballet socks. Your knit and chat makes me think🤔, I’ve been knitting for 65 years and still love finding new methods, this year I’ve really took to knitting on circular needles top down 😂😂

Have you seen the Lauder sweater/vest/cardigan by Rebecca Cowl at The Creabea? It releases on Friday 3/22. It’s on my list for my first cabled garment. The details are so cool! 17:42

Do you watch The Knitty Stew? In her recent episode she's wearing the My Fletching sweater. It would be a great "first colour-work" sweater 😊. I test-knitted the Funfetti...it's so nice, and maybe it could be considered beginner-friendly, but I'd say "adventurous beginner"

I don’t watch The Knitty Stew but I’m always looking for more knitting content so I’ll be sure to check them out. I have seen that sweater and it’s really pretty so it’s definitely a great option. Although I would definitely classify myself as adventurous as well haha 😁

It's the Drachenfels shawl by Melanie Berg. There should be a link to the pattern on Ravelry in the description of the video if you want to check it out

@@AKnitterObsessed Thanks!! I was searching “Dragon Fell Shawl” by Melanie Burke. No wonder I couldn’t find it! LOL
Really enjoying your podcast. You are a natural!

Hahaha, that would make it hard to find. To be fair though, that would be a pretty fantastic shawl name. It feels very Game of Thrones somehow.
Thank you so much for the kind words 😊
