I was so mad when he didn't use the road building to connect, I believe it was the best play, could always wait for wood brick to roll for settlements. Connecting is a hard task so road-building should have been used for that.

@@DyLightedPlaysCatan I thought it was actually a better play to not take it. If you made that connection, you would have had a target on your back all game. It would have been too aggressive too early imo
@@FriedChckn13 I"m still not 100% sure because taking road would get me robbed more, but crushing my road competition early would be a very important investment for the future.
@@DyLightedPlaysCatan But if other players thought you going for road was a given because it might be so easy for you, they would trade with you less during critical moments.
Also, they would spend less resources on roads themselves and instead invest in development cards, which gives them more opportunities for soldiers and cards like monopoly.
Idk personally I think early longest road is a trap and it’s better to just set yourself up for a snake in the lategame like you did. Having longest road early is like having two visible victory point cards for all other players to see.

That player who was like is this why your games take so long honestly bothered me. Like I get it sometimes the trading and conversation of Catan makes the game go a little longer then some people would like but its high level gameplay. If you look at any strategy game when players are playing at a high level the games take quite a while because everyone is making the best move for their tournament survival its not just long for the sake of being long.
Will you be playing any expansion content or new maps on your channel? I’ve always been interested in strategy guides or gameplay for the expansions. The maps would just be fun to see.
I play in a tournament where the boards are a different type (shuffle board), but I try to avoid expansions since it limits the audience hard since not many know how to play the expansions.

Why not, when you had the road building plus a road in hand, did you not consider using the road building to plow green in the center of the map toward the 3-10-11. I understand there weren't settlement spot opportunities, but it felt like that would make getting and keeping road significantly easier.

23:50 if you connect your roads with 2 roads. Add 2 roads at the top of the 4sheep then build 1 road on the desert coast and settle the game was over
He doesnt have enough resources to do that. He would need the 3-1 port.
That road from green looks useless for so many reasons, from weakest to strongest
1. You'd have to build 2 roads before Blue, Red, or Grey does
2. What happens in the video
3. YOU CAN ALREADY REACH THAT SPOT WITH 2 ROADS
'dillies' 'dees'.. Is the single syllable 'dev' give an allergic reaction or something? lol.. I was upset when you didn't take the longest road via the x2 roads with the extra road in hand but you still won in the end anyways, good video as usual! Sidenote, the little montage of all the 7ing out after saying "what went wrong" was absolutely hilarious!!!

Why not use road building to connect roads, you basically assure yourself road if you do

3:56 can someone explain why dylighted is making offers to trade his brick for sheep + ore or wheat + ore if the brick he has gives him a settlement?
Sometimes, it's better to get you rare resources early on rather leading (Especially since his brick resource is very common). Because when you lead, you will most likely get robbed often, which is exactly what happened.
@@johnehab5579 so in either scenario would he have used the ore to buy a dev over using the brick to settle? i would much rather settle first then buy a dev later, cos like...8 is a high number but its not a guarantee to hit and you dont know what other turn u will have sufficient sources to settle. dylighted also didnt have a good source of wheat so i feel like going for a dev here comes with a huge opportunity cost (1 point + increased production)
I have nothing against the chat as it grows the game, and this is in no ways a slight. But is it fair to read and listen to chat during a competitive strategy game? I’m just genuinely curious as to what top players think. It is BEST for the game to have someone that streams with an actual audience. But in a tournament is that fair?
Great question - I don't read chat during tournament games, but I will address them by saying "chat" acknowledging I am streaming. Hope that makes sense! You can see in a few of my games of my chat yelling at me to make the obvious best move but then I completely whiff it lol.

The play for mono is to trade all your sheep away then mono sheep
In that spot it's a lot harder to dirty monopoly as everyone just got sheep. Also I would be porting away the sheep so it's inherently less efficient.

The extra sheep doesn't do anything and the brick is necessary for the wood.
