I've been waiting for this video to come out. Ha ha. I'm glad we figured out the problem. I'm sorry I got the two lines swapped when I hooked them back up. Rookie's mistake, and I was definitely a rookie working on this trialer for sure. I'm glad I could get someone out to you right away, and you weren't down for days. That mistake won't happen again, that's for sure. Thanks for the learning experience. You guys are great, safe travels.

I stumbled across your video's about a month ago and have been watching them every since then. I wish I could join your page but my financial situation tells me I can't. I still enjoy seeing you 2. I love the fun times you 2 enjoy together. My wife and I have been together for almost 40 years and we have the same kind of banter between us!❤
Dave, that's called a diverter valve. The reason they fail is because they have a small rubber disc in them. Once the start blowing air like it was you have to replace them. Most truck shops have them as they are standard equipment on trucks and trailers. There just a royal pain in the back side to change out. Also do a complete brake check. Thanks Brian. Always great to hear from you. We have disc brakes all the way around...truck & trailer. You're correct in that it was a pain to change...lots of air lines going in and out! Lol. Fleet Pride called it a Spring Brake Priority Valve and they sell a lot of them!
@@bigtruckbigtravels Yep, I have replaced many of the both on the tractor and the trailer. I learned to always take a picture before I start messing with airlines. Also not sure if you do an annual on the big truck but we get one on ours at a truck shop when we do the oil change. The main cause of all these problems is if the lines you hook up needs to. Be covered while un hooked. Trash in these new computerized air systems will shut you down. Case in point.
Thanks for the comment Tom. We've always had the lines covered on the truck but didn't think about the trailer. After a light hearted conversation with the trailer manufacturer they said they might start including covers on their trailers now. 😊
Thanks, David. We're very fortunate to be able to travel this great country... and we never take that for granted. Appreciate your comments and your time watching the channel. Glad you're coming along on our journey.
Thanks for the smile and chuckle over the excitement of going to the Whataburger at that truck stop and the possibility of a fried pie afterward, which you got.
Oh yeah. I love fried pies. That was exciting getting a Whataburger on our trip down to Texas. Sometimes I go months without one so each visit is "special".
Lol. Great point! We always take lots of pictures of what ever we are about to take a part. And video so we can reverse it to put whatever it is back together. Unfortunately the Coachnet roadside mechanic didn't do that and basically put it in backwards. But we didn't want to throw him under the bus on camera because he was super nice and helpful and pointed us to a guy who had more experience. 😉
Thanks! We do like to sprinkle in what we do in "the day in the life" in between all of our traveling which is our passion. I'm thinking about posting videos about my Journaling which I love to do - sort of like scrapbooking.
just a little late but Happy New Year. Thank you for your doing your U Tube. From Kitchener Ontario Canada .Will rian and no snow but loooking for five feet would be nice no skiing this year as today.. You keep in the nice warm . It just at 38 f
Oh goodness Stephen, 😳 I hope you are keeping warm! I used to travel to Ontario for business (first for Nortel then RIM/Blackberry) and I froze in the winter! 🥶
Great show That happens a lot in a truck it’s happened to me several times also running around a lot of salt water such as the keys Welcome to the truck drivers world
Thanks for the comment Dean! Getting the HDT RV hauler has made us REALLY appreciate all the truck drivers out there. We know our issues are nothing as compared to what they go thru!
@@mrsbigtruckbigtravels726 not all Truck drivers are alike The new generation of Truck drivers scare me There not respectful are courteous it’s all about me I’ve been driving 39 years when I started it was different God help us it’s not professional anymore
Well, you have your trails with living on the road like that, being a trucker myself, but I might give you just one suggestion for you to think about, your air breaks issues, especially since you are in multiple areas in the country, I have found it helpful to add just a little bit of air break antifreeze in the lines, to help keep them from clogged up, and when you release the air from the system, it cleans them as well OK
Thanks for the tip, Kenneth. I'll look into that product. Really appreciate your suggestion on this. I'm also popping the release valves on my tanks daily (or after a trip each day).
Well, I had thought you were doing that, yes you have to do it daily, simply because you are in different temperatures to create condisation in the air system
LOL...why thank you very much. We haven't been called "cute" in a while. LOL. We're traveling and enjoying retirement and just sharing our story as it happens. We hope others may benefit from our experiences to help them on their RV journey. Appreciate your comments and your time watching the channel. 😁
Those valves stick when they get dirty, like others have said, drain your air tanks almost everyday and cold weather will cause them to freeze up. I have 35 year's driving trucks most northwest, so theirs alot or things like this is going to happen, good luck...hey, you should have a air bag leveling valve in the back of you're trailer, some of them can be adjusted for a softer ride, we used to bend the bar, but that's not the right way, a shorter bar is what you need.
I can't imagine the amount of moisture you had to deal with driving in the Northwest. Thankfully this was only dust from the Southwest. Other than OK Hwy-69 we've been very fortunate with smooth roads over the past years. Thanks for the tip and and your time watching the Channel. 😊
Thanks, Ron. The casino in Metropolis was nice and very convenient. We've been fortunate with traffic. The view of the Arch is always cool to see. Appreciate your time watching the channel.
You should try Canada when it gets warmer. British Columbia, Jasper, Banff, Ontario and Quebec, Gaspe. See Ontario and Quebec in early September when the colours are beautiful. Outside of Montreal you might have to practice your French but lots of people speak English still.
Thanks Joseph for the comments. We've driven through Canada on our way to Alaska but one of these days we want to spend a summer touring around. We have friends up in the Soo.
@@bigtruckbigtravels I hope you have seen the Agawa Canyon around the Sault in fall. I believe there is a very nice train ride there. From Sault heading west and north all around the Lake and also West around Kenora is very nice. Your dollar is strong here now. The prairies west of Kenora are honestly not super exciting but nice long flat roads and four lanes for large vehicles. If you ever go west dont take the highway north to Yorkton. Stay on the main road towards Regina. I am glad you have seen a bit down east. You would love the mountains once you get to Banff and west or north to Jasper, I grew up east of the Sault. I miss home.
Thanks for all the good tips Joseph. Our future travel plans include traveling a lot in Canada. When I was working I spent a lot of time in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta (which is where my Aunt and Uncle and cousins live). David is the French speaker in the family and I'm the Spanish speaker. 😊
@@mrsbigtruckbigtravels726 I am glad you got to experience life here. My family is also in Quebec and Ontario but I live in Alberta. I did some touring with my Prevost around Jasper and Banff. I was told there are only two sites in jasper that can take something the size of your rig in the park. If you ever get up Alberta way send me a message.
Carry a bottle of air line antifreeze. It’s true purpose is to thaw frozen parts but it can also give the system enough moisture to break that stuff free and will still evaporate. It’s not great for a system but ok in a pinch. Pour it into your red line off the truck then hook to trailer and charge trailer.
As a fleet mechanic [retired] with 45 years experience, chamber is first choice ,secondly for old trailers, not yours ,ABS ECM module. We used to paint our Service glad hands Blue, and our Emergency glad hands Reds to eliminate driver error.
Thanks Joseph. Mine are painted that same scheme except my red is more like a pink now from the sun. We should have just gotten a new part from the start but you live and learn. Appreciate the comment and insight. 👍
So as a few have mentioned cover the air line connections when not in use. Also the truck most likely has a air dryer. Have that serviced. I couple times during the year, I add a teaspoon of airline oil or ATF to the airline that comes off the compressor and also to the supply line to the trailer. If the truck is equipped with a dryer than add to the out put line from the dryer. This will keep all those rubber seals working. Safe travels
Oh yeah...they are finally expanding. I use to plan our routes to go through Texarkana where there were a few Whataburgers. I used to really enjoy Minute Man Burgers..."it only takes a minute man!" LOL, now that probably dates me a bit!🤔😊😁
Thanks for finding us. Appreciate the comments. You know the benefits of using a semi-truck so we don't have to go into that discussion. LOL. We really enjoy fulltiming in this setup. Glad you're along with us on the journey. 😎
I don't know if you guys know or not but if you drain your air tanks every week or so from Voyager you'd have less dust and dirt and corrosion in there Plus you can let out the water that could cause your brakes to fail. Need to do it more often when it's wet so like rain season or fall and winter as well. Just to save you guys from having to do all that again! Im a truck driver I'm just trying to give you a pro tip! Have fun and keep the shiny side up drivers!
Did you check the air filter to the compressor? There shouldn't be any dirt in the system. If the compressor is pumping dirty air then any repairs you do will be temporary and the compressor will suffer too.
Thank you. We did check it and the compressor was fine. The valve went bad due to dirt in the system coming from the fact that I did not cover the truck glad hands when disconnected.
It is amazing that a recreational, very long vehicle doesn't need a permit to travel on public roads. Whereas a commercial vehicle is required to have permits.
Appreciate the comments and watching the channel. Hope you're having a great start to 2023. STAA roads have various regulations regarding overall length depending on the road. Not all states or roadways are 65 feet combined.
Thanks Roger, it is very unique, heavy and incredibly spacious and it's home for us. Really appreciate you watching the channel and thanks for the comments. You're very kind. Aloha 😊
I own semi trailers and in the past I have had bees get in the trailer air system because I didn't cover the air lines on the front on the trailer while it wasn't attached to the truck. The bee's crawl into the lines then when you hookup and put the air to the trailer the bee's get pushed into the system and can cause problems. Semi trailer stores can sell the glad hand covers that you can put on the trailer when your truck is not attached.
Appreciate your comments, Steve. I cover my glad hands but didn't start covering the truck & trailer until about 7 months ago. We had a lot of trash... it was surprising.
We were so fortunate not to have any mud dobbers nest in the lines especially with all the places we've been that have them. The Smart did house a mouse one time and it's nest was found during a maintenance check. Guess the mouse didn't like all the earthquakes. 🤣 thanks for the tip Steve! 👍
We stayed at the same TT in Conroe this past February. Our first TT experience with a new trailer. Tried a pull through the first night then moved to a back-in the next day. Nice place overall. Also visited the same Lowes for some support brackets after a pantry shelf collapsed due to a substandard factory installation. It’s always something….🤷♂️
We think so too. We're very fortunate to enjoy our retirement in this fashion and really like to share our experiences so that others may benefit as well. Really appreciate your comments and glad you're along with us on the journey. 😊
I have been an Owner op trucking for almost 30 yrs. The brake chamber would have been my 1st look. Then I would have gone to relays. The BC is normally the first to fail because of the stress they are under. Good luck in your travels. be safe
Thanks Bob- The BC was the first suggestion from the mechanic who had a lot of experience on semi-trucks and air systems. The roadside assistance fellow did not have a lot of experience. Appreciate the comment.
Hi, thanks for the video of your travels. Very well edited showing real-life on the road. Where did you get those passport stickers that you're scrapbooking. My wife scrapbooks our trips as well and those passport stickers seem like a good idea.
Hi Todd. Thanks so much for the comment. I cheat! When we go to a national park, I bring along my NP Passport and a few blank sheets of paper and stamp the paper several times with the stamp. I then cut out the paper stamp and tape it down on the map using my "create-a-sticker" Xbox. I'm actually a Bullet Journaler/Planner, so I also put the paper stamp in my "Memory Spreads." I'll eventually talk David into showing some of my spreads in the videos when appropriate. 😊
A lot of times those valves will either freeze up or get a little bit of stuff in them and you do literally just tap them with a hammer a couple times. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Also make sure you have your airlines hooked up correctly. You’d be very surprised how many people make that mistake and they have the blue and red reversed.
My wife and I really enjoy watching your channel. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Although we're still working full-time we're avid RVers going out to nearby campgrounds or regionally once or more per month in our Thor Chateau 32' Class C. We go on long-haul trips a couple of times per year. We like to watch interesting content like this to get new ideas for future equipment and travels. Whenever you're in NM I recommend trying Blake's Lotaburger! P.S., I'm not sponsored by them either 🙂.
That sounds like a good plan to enjoy the RV lifestyle while working. Tried Blake's near White Sands NP... it was good but I did not get the hatch green Chile option! Thank you for watching.
The majority of the time there's just some dust or a small rock keeping that valve open. Apply air and take something like a screwdriver or pen and shove it up on the valve inside the bottom hole, it will take some reasonable effort to move the valve but it normally will get it to seal up pushing on it a few times
I tried the screwdriver route and it would not engage. Covering up the vent though, did allow it to build up enough pressure to pop it. We just felt that the safer route was to replace it. Thanks, Tony, for the comments.
Oh my gosh! Just saw the little car on the top? However do you get it down? It must be great to park the big rig and drive the little care about! You two are so well suited and have such fun together ❤️ How refreshing ! They get you on the gas prices! Yikes!!! 1:061:07

Morning how is your air dryer popping off? And how often do you release the water from the air tanks? That valve you took off is called a triple valve.
Just stomp the gas pedal down and hold down until you hear air dryer pops and you should be able to go because you have lot lines air bags this should work .
There are a number of control air valves in the system both on tractor and on trailer on both service and the emergency side. You should have a diagram of it from manufacture.
Not sure if you guys do this? But it helps to drain the air tanks often after driving. This will get moisture etc flushed out...and also prevents rust from forming. Especially in cooler weather..NO ICE in the lines.
Thanks for the tip Ronald! Every time I think I hear David tooting he claims it's him draining the airlines! 🤣 Now that I think about it he doesn't specify WHICH airlines are being drained. 🤔
On our belly dump trailers we had an oil injection system and we put marvel mystery oil in them to lubricate the air system because we ran in the dirt constantly. You might try pouring some in the lines at the glad hands once in a while.
Our goal is to be as little familiar with truck/trailer repairs as possible. But after being on the road for 7 years now we are not achieving that goal. 🤪🤣🤦♀️. Thanks for the comment Robert and watching the Channel. Yes, the trailer is a SpaceCraft and is built on a semi chassis type frame.

Oh yeah. I love fried pies. That was exciting getting a Whataburger on our trip down to Texas. Sometimes I go months without one so each visit is "special".
Here is a free tip on the house always take pictures before you remove and mark label lines pretty simple
Thanks for the comments. Sondra loves to get her label maker out. Next time...
Lovely to see your hobbies and not just the travels.
Thanks! We do like to sprinkle in what we do in "the day in the life" in between all of our traveling which is our passion. I'm thinking about posting videos about my Journaling which I love to do - sort of like scrapbooking.
We really try to show how life on the road is and what we do as a normal course of day to day living. How you're having a great start to the new year.
just a little late but Happy New Year.
I just found you guys a couple of days ago...I must say, you are the CUTEST couple. Travel safe and keep giving us good content.
LOL...why thank you very much. We haven't been called "cute" in a while. LOL. We're traveling and enjoying retirement and just sharing our story as it happens. Welcome aboard! Thanks for the comments, Jerry. Glad you're coming along on our journey.
And we are super excited you clicked on it too Jerry! We have some fun stuff planned and home you continue to join us on our journey! 😊
Thanks for the info. Appreciate your comments. We try to stay south in the winter! Lol. Happy new year.
I can't imagine the amount of moisture you had to deal with driving in the Northwest. Thankfully this was only dust from the Southwest.
Other than OK Hwy-69 we've been very fortunate with smooth roads over the past years. Thanks for the tip and and your time watching the Channel. 😊
You guys are a hoot! 🤣 Loved listening to you. Looking forward to more vids. 😊

Thanks, Ron. The casino in Metropolis was nice and very convenient. We've been fortunate with traffic. The view of the Arch is always cool to see. Appreciate your time watching the channel.
Thanks for the comment Ron. We've wanted to visit and spend more time in Metropolis but obviously got behind schedule - maybe next time.
@josephalberta1145 we have been to Jasper and Banff. Beautiful areas and nice hiking. Enjoyed the hike to Lake Louise and the Tea house.
We'll definitely look into some of these tips. Appreciate it.
Ok, now that's a great tip. Thank you very much. I appreciate your comments. Will do the oil suggestion. I'm now covering the glad hands.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023
Thank you Jason and a Happy New Year to you too! 😊
And to you too!
I now how you feel about Whatabuger they are finely building some here in Little rock, Ar. Safe Travel's Ya'll be carful ! ..
Oh yeah...they are finally expanding. I use to plan our routes to go through Texarkana where there were a few Whataburgers. I used to really enjoy Minute Man Burgers..."it only takes a minute man!" LOL, now that probably dates me a bit!🤔😊😁
The valve is either blown or it has a piece of dirt in it hold it open.
Sometimes a little airline antifreeze will brake it free
It looks like it had a lot of dirt and trash in it. I've started putting covers on the glad hands. Thanks for the comment. 🤙
@@bigtruckbigtravels the other thing is to regularly drain your air tanks on both units. It helps clear moisture and debris
@@tremellambrecht3821 Yep. Used to do it regularly and got away from it since I saw no moisture. Doing it again now. Thanks
Only just came across your channel. What a great setup. Used to drive semi trucks for a living. This is an awesome way to travel
Thank you. We try to do it each evening when we park. Great suggestion.
Love the trailer. Reason why I started watching. It is beautiful

Great video, and Happy New Year. I always found that Teflon tape on the air hose connections always worked great.
Thanks Larry. You know, I was going to use tape but the mechanic suggested the "putty". Lol...I have both now.
Thanks for the comment Larry. It's amazing how many R&M supplies David has accumulated over the past 7 years of full-timing!
😳🤣 I think the hammer is the universal took! 😜 thanks for the comment Vinnie. 👍
I wanted to get the hammer out... but I was overruled. Lol. Thanks for the comments.

Yes, we discovered the priority spring break valve on this issue... and have a spare now. Never knew about it until this happened. Thanks
Not sure if you guys do this? But it helps to drain the air tanks often after driving. This will get moisture etc flushed out...and also prevents rust from forming. Especially in cooler weather..NO ICE in the lines.

Hey I just started following you guys definitely interesting do you have any videos tours of your rig I think it’s really unique I noticed the fifth wheel is not your average fifth wheel what is it let’s talk about it
Thanks for the comment David and joining in our journey! We hope to get a full tour out soon but in the meantime we did do a short inside tour at Christmas.
Here's the link (I hope)

Orion is a custom-built trailer based on a semi chassis frame.
@@mrsbigtruckbigtravels726 I just seen it super nice rig interested in how it works the underbelly compartments stuff like that I love how the fifth wheel is
Thank you! All the exciting stuff is definitely what you can't see like all the infrastructure for Boondocking and special features we spec'ed out. In addition to the inside tour we plan on doing an infrastructure/design process tour. And a tour of the truck Voyager and how David has it set up to support Orion (trailer) while boondocking. 😊
@@mrsbigtruckbigtravels726 I can’t wait!!!
How offten are you draining your tanks that rust look could be from your tanks on the truck having rust. In a emergency you can bypass that tractor protection valve the guy plumbed to the exit side of the valve not the intake
Used to drain daily... then weekly... then not at all. My bad. Started doing it again. I wasn't getting any moisture on the purge, so I stopped. Thanks for the comment.
While in Concordia, have you stopped at Cree-Mee-Freeze? They have the best ice cream.
We stopped there several times during our many visits. The ice cream is yummy! Really appreciate your comments and glad you're along with us on the journey. 😊
Oh yeah, Fried Pies are really good.
Oh yeah. A good fried pie is the best!
There’s dirt in the valve stick the screw driver in there a couple of times
Thanks, Robert. We did try that but I think it was so dirty that the spring was stuck. Cleaned it and have it as a spare. Glad you're along on the journey. Appreciate your comment. 😊
