Another grand video. Love seeing these old cars being saved. Live seeing them able to be saved. My almost first car was a 67 Austin Cambridge that had been sitting Ong dirt. The frame was well beyond saving, so it was scrapped. It was only about 10 years old at the time.

When you get the welding complete spray Waxoyl or similar into the box sections, it is highly effective at preventing further rusting from the inside of said box sections.

It'll get some sort of cavity wax sprayed inside, I'm surprised it hadn't already been done as somebody has gone a really tidy job of under-sealing the car - Not just lathered it on an inch thick over rust like usually occurs!

@@CaptainSlow1992 yes I seen that in the video, the red primer in the chassis legs too. Probably why it hasn't totally disinterested with rust.

Another really enjoyable video.Good news about the workshop space to do the welding etc, hopefully the lockdown will be eased soon so the Dolomite can be taken there :)

Great vid credit to you for sticking at it when many would have just towed it to the scrappys. My mate used to work on them when they were new and he called them Triumph Dollopofshite lol stick at it.

No point in giving up on the thing now, it's only welding at the end of the day. People bring some more valuable stuff back from almost nothing, stuff like VW Split Windows sometimes start of as about 5% of a car!

I know your pain my dolly sprint has gone rotten in the exact same places as your's. I'd say if anything it's worse than your's unfortunately i don't yet have the skill or the facilities to do the welding myself. I'm looking to get some sort of unit or workshop space so i can practice welding. But at the moment i don't have the space to do so

Aye, I've had my car 7 years and this is the first opportunity I've had to get it welded up somewhere. Workshop space is incredibly expensive in the UK...

@@CaptainSlow1992 Yeah workshop space / units are extremely expensive although my only other alternative is to get someone else to do the welding which will probably be quite expensive. However if it means that it is structurally sound then i don't really mind

Hope you don’t mind me asking but how much did you pay for the Dolly? And do you own and drive a modern car?

    • @CaptainSlow1992
      @CaptainSlow1992  4 года назад +1

I paid £1400 back in 2012, which was big money for a 1300 at the time! I thought I was getting a 24,000 mile minter but it turned out to be a nicely polished up 124,000 miler...
The last "modern" car I had was a 2005 Civic 1.6 which I replaced with the Acclaim a couple of years ago.

Captain 70s the car had SCS then.....Shiny car syndrome, yes old clocks didn’t cater for mileage over 100,000, they didn’t expect the cars to go beyond that!
I bought an Austin Allegro in 1999 that had an indicated 46,000 on the clock, by the smoke coming out the exhaust it was more likely to be 146000!
The Acclaim was definately one of the most reliable Triumphs..due to the fact of being a Honda!
I love BL and BMC cars though, more interesting than the Fords and Vauxhall’s of the time.

The car actually only had one owner for over 30 years and had clearly been well cared for in the not too distant past, sadly I didn't know enough about old cars to notice some tell-tale signs it'd been around the clock, like the wear on the driver's seat and carpet and the fact the owner never went over 45mph on the test drive (big end knocking started at about 47mph!) Within 300 miles of purchase the top end of the engine fell to bits, a rocker arm snapped and the hole for it to sit on the rocker shaft was so worn it was a clear figure-8 shape rather than circular...
Once I get it back on the road I'll do a re-cap video of my time so far with it and show some pictures of some of the stuff I found right after paying a fortune (for me at the time) for it!
