The best??? Uh no...Duran far outshines Leonard. Remember he was a champion for 3 years by the time Leonard won the 76 Olympics. What changed in boxing??? Look at the shape they’re in. You will almost never see a boxer today that cut and also no clinching just straight throw hands.
Fantastic fight. Dundee had his overcompensating for the fact that Floyd was legitimately giving SRL a MUCH better scrap than they seemed to except. There’s also an incredibly strange moment in this fight that I actually think think is one of the most rare I’ve ever seen in couple dozen years watching boxing. At 8:02 both throw a right hand that would have dramatically changed the fight - imo Ray would have sparked Floyd out cold in the dirt and while we now know Ray’s chin is iron, at this point if this landed I think Ray was in trouble. Floyd seemed to have seen Ray throw it last second fully loaded up and rushed his shot only to divert late and attempt to deflect with his glove. and Ray 100% calculated Floyd was landing first hence why he slightly pulled it and braced try to slide out just a bit to let it glance . But then their punches actually punch eacother mid air with what I still think is their wrists colliding. You can tell it hurt Floyd BAD watch his right arm go limp for a second and steps back stunned. I’ve scaled the image up cleaning the edges it doesn’t land on Floyd. It just confused the hell out of him and you could tell he was in pain. Shocked he didn’t shatter his wrist. He really did rise to the level of his competitor in this night you gotta give him that .

Both of them cats got hands, power and speed.... But Sugar Ray was like whoa... a little too much for Mayweather Sr. It looks like that match was determined by which one of them could really take a hellova punch. Which further lets us know why he taught his son to be amazingly evasive.
this fight is why he said "son, don't stand in one spot and throw punches like I did and got my entire existence whooped. RUN, Forrest, RUUUUUUUN!" and so Jr. ran every bout so as not to get hit too often.

Sugar was the champion of champions. He was pretty in the ring and out the ring. His weight class had the most talented boxers. And he was the one that finished his career on top.
Teofilo Stevenson is not a 'what if'. Even as an Aussie, I know that. Amateur boxer for 20 years and a triple Olympic gold medalist. Ali, Foreman, Frazier, De La Hoya, Whittaker, Floyd Patterson, Leon Spinks, Michael Spinks etc etc, all won a gold medal...one. Who is to say what route is the toughest - personally I believe the amateur route, with the lack of money and support to be much tougher.... Now we talk about Usain Bolt winning golds at 3 successive games, or Phelps doing the same....don't forget Teofilo Stevenson - he did it way before them both... 3 world championships, 3 gold medals and a record of 302/332, with 22 losses and 8 draws.....legend.
Man...Mr. Mayweather Sr. was tough AF. He was taking some hard shots and then coming back by the next round, still wanting to knock Mr. Leonard's head off. Great bout!
I watched as many of the Ray Leonard fights as I could in the day. As much as I like to hear about all these great fighters today that are truly great. I don't think I have seen his match. He took on all the best in his time including some he had no chance to win against and he did anyway. He proved to be fast as lightning, and tougher than nails as well as the stamina to take it to the limit. If we could reach back in time and grab Ray Leonard to put into the ring today, I would bet on Ray every time. He won in the Olympics against veterans of the east block communist countries when he was still a youngster. He was one bad dude.
You know the punch is hard when the Fro starts shakin hahaha. I miss those fights as a kid, we’d always slap box after watching (of course I’d always lose to my older brother), but still gave a good showing. Do they slap box anymore😂?
I remember watcthing this fight, I pulled for Leonard because he was so closely tied to Ali - the Fighting styles so closely resembled Ali. Ali had not yet retired and Angelo Dundee displayed his Condidence on Sugar Ray Leanard. He fought so much like a Ali at a lower weight Limit. His connections to Ali were obvious at that time.
You know what I got out of this footage....two Legends and I'd be drinking out of a straw by the remainder of my natural Life! How did these two remain standing?
Ray was known to all those in boxing who should have known of him as a boxer since b4 the 1976 Olympic Games. He was an "unmistakable, undeniable talent!!!" Trust me, he snuck up on no one!!!

Sugar was the champion of champions. He was pretty in the ring and out the ring. His weight class had the most talented boxers. And he was the one that finished his career on top.
Not a fan of mayweather jr
That part....
Two warriors who will never give up.
Mayweather was a tough cookie, but Ray wasn't unknown. Mayweather was hand-picked for Ray's next step.
Everybody start from somewhere wow the Legend
This fight was on September 1978 and I was born November 1978 I've been fighting every since
This how I expected Deven Haney to fight Garcia fight with your heart
This is real boxing 🥊🥊 great fight
Salute And Respect 👑
7:36 Sugar Ray is special to be able to throw that so fast…wow
Stevenson was a grown man Professional boxer sponsored by Castro to beat the young amateurs from other countries .in 3 round fights .
I don't find he fought like
Ali did more moving and Ray fought in the inside more
You know what I got out of this footage....two Legends and I'd be drinking out of a straw by the remainder of my natural Life! How did these two remain standing?
Unknown Sugar Ray Leonard, who just happened to be an Olympic Champion before turning Pro. One of the all time greats.
Sugar Ray has always been my fav.
Sugar Ray looked old for his age now young for his age🤯
Never see anyone hit so hard and fast,...both fighters.
When other fighters do that taunting show-off stuff they get criticized. When Ray did it it was applauded.
He was never rude or mean to his opponents after he fights so it was acceptable like Ali
Ray was known to all those in boxing who should have known of him as a boxer since b4 the 1976 Olympic Games. He was an "unmistakable, undeniable talent!!!" Trust me, he snuck up on no one!!!
5:50 what is he doing? 🤣😂🤣
I want to see a 1978 version of Sugar Ray VS Bud Crawford.
I watched all his fights fantastic boxer and fast and tough 😊
What a honor to have Howard Cossel call the fight
