Leonard had a great chin, look at the first Hearns fight, and the toe to toe with Hagler. Anyone that says Leonard didn't have a good chin doesn't know the boxing game.
@@garyalu5636 Do you even watch boxing? Leonard was dropped at least 10 times in his career. He ran from Hagler for 12 rounds and was hurt in each of his fights with Hearns. He was knocked out by Camacho. Hagler had a granite chin. Hearns had a glass jaw. And Leonard had a suspect chin.
Salute to the two great champions. They are all good fighters. This is boxing to its best. Its indeed a draw. Despite of two knockdown, Leonard finished the round valiantly. What a classic fight.
Yeah, the first knockdown wasn't much since Leonard was already badly off-balance from slipping. Also, Leonard really battered Hearns at certain points. At the end, I really couldn't tell who should win.
Amazing. Ali/Frazier 1, Joe gets the shit beat out of him. (Spent almost a month in Intensive Care after the fight) Has one solid knockdown, and that has been the excuse for him being given the decision for over 50 years. I am a huge Tommy fan, and was stationed at Nellis AFB I had the day of April 14th off and walked thru Caesars Palace and went to the arena and sat there alone. I brought a silver dollar and said some huge prayers to God to protect Tommy and no matter what do not let him get knocked down. After my prayers I slid that dollar under the ring post. The next day i went to the fight with a close friend from the service at Nellis AFB. And no shit Tommy got rocked where I left that dollar and he didnot go down. Just saying this is part of history, the things that happened before a huge fight in boxing history. !!!!!

What an incredible fight I just saw! It's a great lucky that it already had invented, I mean the video recording, and today a regular guy from Ukraine like myself have such a beautiful opportunity to see this art of boxing. Thanks a million to the author of this video. Got subscribed.
I watched this live and so many times since. IMO, Hearns should've won this fight in a split. I was watching with a bunch of older boxing men and I remember them all booing when Leonard was declared the winner. - Watching Hagler, Leonard and Hearns in the 80's was such a gift to watch. I was a teen and a little too young to really appreciate the kind of high-level boxing they were doing. Amazing.
A draw isn't too far fetched. I scored it 112-112 even crazy enough. Many of the middle to late arounds were swing rounds in my honest opinion and Leonard fought his ass off in the 12th & final round. 2 Legends that will never be replicated... Bravo!
Hearns gets two 10-8 rounds in the 3rd and the 11th rounds for the knockdowns. The two big rounds Leonard had in the 5th and the 12th were devoid of knockdowns and he didn't dominate enough to get 10-8 rounds in either instance. That being the case, Leonard needs to win that fight eight rounds to four in order to get a 112-112 draw. There's no way in hell Ray won eight rounds of that fight. Leonard admitted he lost and that says it all. The decision was only proof of his star power, which was something that Ali benefitted from late in his career.
When I see these fights I don’t see winners and losers I see two people who were even great enough to make it this far even if you terrible you great for having this kind of work ethic. Shout out to all the fighters keep working.
I had Hearns winning this. I'm really surprised by the decision, actually I think the decision was evidence that the fix was in, without a KO on SRL Hearns was not going to get a win. That being said, hell of a fight.
After the early rounds Ray was just more active. Tommy had way more power and if he were mire active could’ve got the win and maybe a knockout. Ray was super quick though

I respect Ray Leonard a lot for admitting to Hearns that he was beat in this fight, even without getting the decision. Took Leonard a few years to say it, but at least he did. Some people will continue to dillude themselves forever, ala Castillo vs Mayweather
Castillo didn’t win the first fight though that’s the difference. That’s why that’ll never happen. He didn’t deserve the decision. That’s usually just a narrative pushed by people that don’t like Floyd. The fucking ridiculous compubox stats shift peoples minds also.

Both are among the all-time greatest of welter/super-welterweights. But every time they head into the waning championship minutes, Tommy just didn't have the durable fortitude of Ray.
@@williammorton3359 I’m a Ray fan but Tommy is no punk. This guys won 8 division titles. I think a draw in this fight was the correct decision. I think Hearns had every reason to believe he should have been awarded the decision, but he was gallant in accepting the draw. It was a very close fight, but based on the two knockdowns, if I’d have been scoring I’d have given it to Hearns.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler's commentary during the fight kept cracking me the hell up! 🤣🤣 He couldn't hide his legendary disdain for Sugar Ray Leonard. While the other commentators tried to be as objective as possible, the Champ couldn't help himself with funny jabs at Leonard. It was as if when Hearns wasn't doing enough, he wanted to jump in there, borrow Hearn's gloves, and finish the job. Lmao! Continue to Rest in Power Champ!
It was a disgrace from the referee not deducting points for after the bell hits and low blows; Hearns won the fight and was robbed of an absolutely courageous victory.
Can't remember which round it was but I laughed when Hagler cheered "Come on Tommy". Yup, you knew that Hags was in Tommy's corner lol.

Hearns does not gripe to this day at the decision because as he says, at least he didn’t lose.. A true measure of the man in the reality of the day.
With the officials as bad as they were, he was probably right to remain silent this has been his stance ever since the fight.
Apparently you disagree and know better than the guys who fought the fight? Have a word with yourself; wrong! 😂😇😎

He got dropped twice in this fight. And a number of times during his career.

@@mariastenljung9159 Leonard had heart. But he didn't have a granite chin. Far from it.
Wow, I missed this one! They took that one from Tommy. That's one they should've definitely have him. Both showed great sportsmanship.

Hearns/Leonard 2, Ray gets beat to hell and knocked down TWICE, regardless of how you justify one not being legit, but you see it as a draw? wow...

I watched this live and so many times since. IMO, Hearns should've won this fight in a split. I was watching with a bunch of older boxing men and I remember them all booing when Leonard was declared the winner. - Watching Hagler, Leonard and Hearns in the 80's was such a gift to watch.
@@TomGray-pq4keFacts!. Ray got his ass beat. Point blank period!

I had Hearns winning this. I'm really surprised by the decision, actually I think the decision was evidence that the fix was in, without a KO on SRL Hearns was not going to get a win. That being said, hell of a fight.
If the fix was in Ray would have won the decision. Stop being stupid. Tommy deserved to win but some judges over value things Ray does in the ring.
Legends in the books.
After the early rounds Ray was just more active. Tommy had way more power and if he were mire active could’ve got the win and maybe a knockout. Ray was super quick though

I love how the commentators criticize these guys, saying what they should be doing, while they are sitting there with a Gatorade in their hands.
