This is a great video series. I have a 2011 R1200GS and having your videos is like I have a mechanic working beside me. I took the bike to a BMW garage for the first service after I purchased it (I'm the second owner). I have no reason to doubt his mechanic's competence, but he did not provide any documentation on the work he performed. Said the BMW recommended maintenance was performed. I trust it was based on the $ charged. Watching your videos has done two things. First, it does give me a better understanding of the time needed to perform the tasks properly and justifies some true labor cost. Second, it gives me confidence to do this work myself. With your videos I can trust that I am doing it properly.
Wow! My dealership wants one of my kidneys to do this check. This looks easier than my old KLR. You’re an inspiration sir. Please keep your GS vids coming. I hope you never sell it!!
Hi Eli, until this very moment my Beemer is doing great so I am NOT thinking about selling it.. and maybe never as the GS is a way to good riding bike to change for another bike. Also according to my live-long ride pillion, my wife.
I really appreciate you taking the time to do such a detailed, great quality video of this job. I watched this before doing the same job in my 2013 RT, and because of seeing you do it, it was like I’d done it before.
Hi John, is the cam change assembly in the way to adjust the intake valves? I couldn't get feeler gage in there to properly measure on my 2012 GSA:( Any tips or brand of feeler gages appreciated....
Hi.....this is a remarkably meticulous demonstration.Did this on the single o/c,very easy. This job comes up for me in a few days, before my first long distance trip inApril, Luxembourg -Portugal.Thanks for keep up the good work.
I did this yesterday. Third time I've checked the clesrances on my GS, but the first time the shims have needed attention. Two were tight. One could be fixed by swapping shims with another valve that had more than enough clearance, but the other needed a new shim. When you start dealing with shims, it'll save you time and heartache to use good measuring tools. Use a good micrometer, keep it in its case when you're not using it, and keep it calibrated. 👍
Thank you for the detailed instructions. I have no dealer with in 150 miles of my house and I usually have to take it there and leave it and come back to retrieve it. I feel confidant, with your video guidance, that I can now do this.

hello old mechanic I have a BMW R 1.200 RT 2006 model with a modified engine. it has a 2010 engine installed. the only little problem i have when i'm traveling is when the throttle starts revving the engine from low revs to around 1800, in first or second or third gear the engine feels like someone is holding me back and let me hold me and let me hold me and let me go on repeat until i rev above 2200. i've changed multipliers i've changed oxygen sensors i've changed idle adjusters i've changed the gas pump and the tps but no i can understand why i have this little problem. have you ever encountered such a problem and if so what was the solution you gave?

Love your videos; you make up names for parts and procedures like I do! Question on your valve clearance calculation; since the clearance range on the valve you adjusted was.010mm, the center of the range between .013 and .023 would be .018; and since the clearance will become smaller over time as the valve and seat wears; if you are going to "cheat it" wouldn't you want to make the clearance larger than .018?

hello old mechanic
I have a BMW R 1.200 RT 2006 model with a modified engine. it has a 2010 engine installed.
the only little problem i have when i'm traveling is when the throttle starts revving the engine from low revs to around 1800, in first or second or third gear the engine feels like someone is holding me back and let me hold me and let me hold me and let me go on repeat until i rev above 2200. i've changed multipliers i've changed oxygen sensors i've changed idle adjusters i've changed the gas pump and the tps but no i can understand why i have this little problem.
have you ever encountered such a problem and if so what was the solution you gave?

As you could see in my video that adjusting the valve clearance is a easy and simple procedure 👍🏻👊🏻😉
Me ensina muito, meu Mestre à distância. Sou grato por vossos preciosos compartilhamentos.
The 1200 is the better one to buy with less design problems like the end drive
Love your videos; you make up names for parts and procedures like I do! Question on your valve clearance calculation; since the clearance range on the valve you adjusted was.010mm, the center of the range between .013 and .023 would be .018; and since the clearance will become smaller over time as the valve and seat wears; if you are going to "cheat it" wouldn't you want to make the clearance larger than .018?
