Thanks for putting together this video. Keep in mind body roll changes load distribution between the ground and your wheels. The more your body rolls, the less traction you have on the wheels you're rolling away from (e.g. less traction on left wheels when turning left). Not a big deal off-road but, in conditions where consistent traction is important, sway bars help.
Well explained brother! I took mine off my 2018 Raptor and it drives fine. To me it feels softer and it performs similar to a Trophy truck. Its off permanently now.
@@exsix Whether it's a solid axle or IFS, it does the same thing the same way. It greatly reduces body roll for obvious reasons. Handling is greatly improved. When you remove the Anti sway bar, you then have true IFS. Not so with a solid axle. The left and right wheels are affected by what the other does. Both types of axles benefit greatly off road either way when the Anti sway bar is removed.
Its one of those things that you have to feel for yourself in order to make the decision. But thankyou for helping those to choose whether to give it a go. cheers
3:01 bushings don't determine the flexibility of anti roll bar .. if your bushings has that much play !! you need new bushings .. the sway bar twist under load thus the bar stiffness will determine the car behavior .. in some cases (racing drift offroad etc) you can experiment with different sway bars to achieve the desired behavior
Agree. I have an old 86 Suzuki Samurai bone stock with no travel and leaf springs. For 5 years I drove it with the sway bar connected, because I thought just how much could it help disconnecting it. Well, I finally took it off completely and it rides like a Cadillac now, on road and off road. The body roll on the street is nil to me. That was 4 years ago, and the sway bar is still laying in the back yard.
Well... ya gotta slow down and not forget. I forgot the other day on a curve and it became sketch quick. Darn comfy ride tho. I did upgrade the rear when i removed the front
Took my sway bar off my lifted silverado went out to my local trails to test out the performance and man that sway bar aint ever going back on . Trail performance was a day and night performance street and high way driving wasint bad at all!!!
I removed my front from my 2013 silverado and I love the articulation I get now, it's not any crazier turning at speed from my seat experience, like you're gonna die lol but I love the amount of roll it gets at speed it's almost perfect. I also added a rear hellwig bar and traction bars to firm up the rear and aid in spinning the tires so that might effect the whole truck a little bit as well. 😂
I just took mine off my 2nd gen dodge and I feel like it drives and rides a little smoother and around curves or quick turns the body roll I feel like it keeps me from getting thrown around inside. As of now I like it im glad I did it
I cheaped out and got 245/40R19 for my front tires. The steering feel was numbed. I then removed the antiroll bar, and it feels like I turned off Force Feedback on my sim wheel. It's actually scary at speed.
Cool. Imma try this and see how well it works with torsion bar ifs, I saw a video of my exact car off roading and the front suspension would not flex at all, and it would only pivot on the rear suspension. Maybe its because my sway bar is 1.5 inches thick....
Hey I'd like to talk about this further, I have the same concerns, and I haven't done a coil over suspension, I still have torsion bars right now ... I know its great offroad but the concern is the evasive maneuvers ..
I took mine of my tundra. But installed a trd rear one a couple of years ago. I can’t even tell a difference between having it and not w the body roll. After I took the front one off
Thanks for the video. By it is fantastic offroading, what type of offroad do you refer to? It seems most people are talking about slow speed offroad when talking about sway bar delete. I wonder if it is not great on road with body roll, it would be dangerous for fast off-roading. Am I right?
I do fast off-roading primarily and it is a night and day difference. The only time it’s dangerous is if you’re making an abrupt sharp turn at high speeds, but at a certain point it doesn’t matter if there’s a sway bar or not. A sharp abrupt turn at high speeds can make it roll over with or without one.
@@desertdime Thanks for reply. I drive 5th gen 4runner and thinking about deleting front sway bar. I often drive long distance trail/gravel roads with 4 passengers and full of cargo. I want to go as fast and comfortable as possible. Some people are saying it is fantastic to delete and some people are saying in this scenario, people in the back get motion sick immediately. What is your experience with that? Probably it is good for a light weight vehicle with 2 passengers in the front?
@@RealeaD Given that you’re in a 4 runner and I’m in a Tacoma the weight distribution difference might make a big difference, so I can’t speak to that much at all. I said your best bet is to just take it off and try it out for a trip or two. If you don’t like it off you can always put it back on in a matter of minutes
This was beneficial for me, as we're considering a purchase where the mounts broke. I could only remove for trip home as it would not pass inspection...but would get it home where new mounts could be installed. Thanks.
My kdss on my 4 runner is failing, so the decision is being made for me😂. It’s got a slow leak so only time will tell when it finally goes out. Not wanting to pay the $5600 to get it fixed though.
Hmm.. do race cars have the sway bars then? Im getting my tires and UCA replaced, and thinking about removing the front sway bar, but I do have a high center of balance. So its a bit wobbly already. Wondering if removing it would make it worse
Suuuper tedious to remove and reinstall every time you wanna hit a trail. Then you have to worry about where you’re gonna put it, especially if your bed is full of stuff like spare tires, tools, recovery gear, etc. I do know that Jeep guys can have a quick release option that disconnects it. Even more modern trail vehicles can come with it from factory
If I kept the rear sway bar and took off the front one will it hinder my performance? I’m just wondering if there’s a difference with the front went off and the back one on?
Come to find out my 8" lift 05 tahoe 2x4 broke a kryptonie sway bar end link bolt.....God knows when, and she drives just fine. O5 tahoe lifted 8" on the AFP coilover conversion, and skyjacker 6-8" lift kit, on 35x22x12.50's
Obviously you don’t realize the bar has a torsion effect. The links and bushings are solely for mounting purposes. It transfers road input from each side in unequal situations. Definitely useless for off road use when max travel is the goal.
sway bar removal is fine at low speeds but don't be going 80 down the freeway with no front sway bar. not to mention the extra articulation can be hard on your (stock) cv axles so plan accordingly.
Now scientifically, removing the front sway bar will be reducing front grip. Reducing front grip will actually lessen the chance of a steering-induced rollover. But yeah like you said, center of gravity still remains high and the load still transfers. Idk, maybe they cancel each other out 😆 I've been running without the front sway bar on my 19 taco trdOR for a couple years now and I love it. I also trimmed the foam inside the seats for a softer and better fitted feel so that also helps big time. Used to have bump steer with the bar on, a bump in the road with one or the other front wheel would jolt the steering wheel left/right and try to lead the whole truck into that direction. It was a chore just to daily on local busted roads. Sort of feels like a boat but with tires. I mean it doesn't feel like a boat in a bad way.
You missed some of the understanding of the bar... not just the buhings play are the amount of differential suspension travel: the BAR itself is a TORSION SPRING!
Still relatively the same with normal every day driving. The only time I notice it is if I’m purposely trying to make it lean like a boat by doing drastic turns

I haven’t run a sway bar in my 09’ Taco for over a decade. Only con is body roll, and I pucker up going around turns fast 😂.
If you guys want an in-depth video Tinkerers adventure has one on sway bar removal
Well explained brother!
I took mine off my 2018 Raptor and it drives fine. To me it feels softer and it performs similar to a Trophy truck. Its off permanently now.
well said. my sway bar on my fiat was banging on the control arm and making horrible noises so i just removed it
It's not truly independent front suspension when you have an anti sway bar. They are literally connected making them NOT independent.
ur not wrong but u are ... all the sway bar does is twist with resistance. it's not like a solid axle sway bars flex.... so it is independent.

It's even more dramatic with Independent suspension

My Homies been bugging me to just get rid of mine 😂I’ve been hesitant but after this I feel a little better about it 😅
The 4runner guys have them removed. My 06 lifted highlander front sway bars been removed.. no problems so far..
Just tell them that you finally listened to their advise so they feel better about it 😂
It’s vary scary at high speed when the fwy is not smooth or straight 🫣

I’ve had 0 problems so far but then again I haven’t had to do anything too drastic maneuver wise
how often do you do them?
had to swerve to avoid an accident when running no sway, felt like i was about to roll it. so i’ll stick to no sway on trail only
my 4runner has kdss and ive been thinking about lifting it so sway bar/ kdss delete may be in the works😅
Will it make a difference if i have a solid rear and leafsprings? Im thinking of removing😊
So what about full size trucks like the 1500 or HD?
did you remove the rear ? And do you recommend removing the rear ?
My truck doesn’t have a rear sway bar. Not sure if that’s just a Tacoma thing or if it’s only full size trucks that have rear ones
I took mine of my tundra. But installed a trd rear one a couple of years ago. I can’t even tell a difference between having it and not w the body roll. After I took the front one off
Now I’m thinking on removing my sway bar I want to see the difference with and without the sway bar I feel like I’ll prob like it off for sure 🤣
Really gotta get a feel for it off-road!
Per experience, keep the rear on atleast and start there.

Amy noticable difference in the two ON highway?
Keep it under 80mph, over that and it gets a little sporty
My truck has never liked going over 80 so I’m fine with that 😂
My patrol cab hardly do 80 so I'm all good

Like a track car? Not a desert vehicle?
Why wouldn't you just remove it at the trail head isn't it just 25 min and 8 bolts?

Threw mine in the trash when I installed my suspension.
Gave it a proper burial 🫡

No sway bar here on my 15 taco ! Useless to have
😂😂 show the people's how it ride without the sway bar on 😂😂😂

My sway stabilization link fell off my 2006 honda Ridgeline, was worried at first now I’m not
Will this affect alighnment?
It shouldn’t
Broooo sell me that swey barr😅
Ima take mine off
Do it 😈
Can you still do donuts lol
Haven’t tried yet, but I’d assume they’d look a lot gnarlier 😂😂
Another fail TacoTuber video lol 😆 no sway rides like shit not for the Daily driven Tacoma people lol 😆
I’ve been driving without it off ever since the video and have no complaints 🤷🏻♂️ have plenty of other people who do the same and have no problems 😂

As 2wd as it can get 🥳🤙🏼
