    The number 1 thing to do when stuck, in ANY vehicle, no special items needed. Air down! Drop air pressure down to 12-15psi, you will now have about 3 times more traction!

    • @mikem9953
      @mikem9953 5 месяцев назад +3

      I’ve always wondered if airing down made a notable difference.
      I guess I just always overlooked it.

      What if your already aired down on the trail running 12psi.

      Really only effective as long as you have an air compressor back up doesn’t do any good to have a flat tire

    Using a hi-lift as a poor man's winch is the most underrated extration method ever! No one ever thinks of it, or thinks it'll work!

    • @ToddSwagerty
      @ToddSwagerty 3 года назад +3

      I thought you said underrated exercise method. If you said that I would have totally agreed with you. I've used it twice, once when I had drained all my transmission fluid so the truck wouldn't go forward, but I was almost to the crest of the hill (and downhill from there to the paved road), and the other time, the hill was too steep for the old 4Runner to get up it (no torque). It worked both times, but I had to take several breaks and was quite sore the next day.

    • @lukestoyz
      @lukestoyz 3 года назад +5

      You just don’t use it on your hoop bar. But rather on the extraction points on the bumper

    • @russellwood8750
      @russellwood8750 3 года назад +4

      I don't consider it to be a poor man's winch I consider it to be a backup winch if the regular winch Burns out or has some motor problem the hi lift will get you unsuck it doesn't have to be considered a poor man's winch at all. We once drove into a high dense forest area camped for 5 days and had a wonderful time the storm hit and down the lot of the trees on the road we used the winches on the trucks and also the high lift winches declared the road it made the job go a lot faster having a couple of hi lift to do some winching as well be.

    Interesting video I’d like to make some recommendations if that’s OK . One I wouldn’t really be into that Chinese one I don’t think it would hold up overtime. As for land anchors i’m not really a fan I think it’s a big heavy piece of gear to carry with you that works some of the time not all of the time, it’s very hit and miss. Traction boards absolutely love the shovel crucial part of any recovery kit. Deadman you were using a little incorrectly you need to go over the instructions again. You laid a dead man down and the size of the patch is the size of the hole you did you dig the hole approximately 2 feet deep you fasten the front two straps to your winch light and a back two straps to the front straps with a shackle this way all four straps pull at the same time. I would also recommend pulling your winch line much further out and digging the hole further away from the truck the more line you takeoff your winch spool the more pulling strength the winch has. Hi lift Jack my little tips for this would be to have a baseplate salted Jack doesn’t sink down into the sand and making it much more stable. I would’ve also move the Jack towards the rear door and open the door and then jack up the truck this way if the jack was to slip it falls in towards your truck going into the open void of the back doing no damage to the bodywork or the window it would be nothing worse than having the jack slip and putting a big dent in your truck. These are just some of my thoughts I hope you don’t mind.

    Manny years ago as a young pup I remember when we had to turn a vehicle around on an icy snowy road. The high lift got it done. Far from OSHA approved lifted as high as it will go then push it so the Jack falls over, and repeat as needed.

    to go off road,
    number one item is a air compressor, so you can fill up the tires when you get back to pavement.
    then a 4 ton come-along.
    i have never understood those back boards, but then i do not wheel at the beach.
    wenches are great to have, as well as extra cable, a number of "rated" D-rings, not the cheap trash from communist china. a jerk strap, tree protector, two rated pulleys.
    dead weight on a cable (even the plastic ropes) are the shipping pads sold at u-haul. weight on the winch line and padding for the tent floor.
    that can get out of almost everything.
    BUT bring at a min one gallon of water per person per day. and food for two days. if you get stuck, break down. you need to eat and drink water. as some times it will be at least one or two over nights. but then even in normal days you must keep such in your car. like last week i was stuck in stopped traffic for over 2 hrs. did not move one inch.
    then bring clothing. for hot temps. and freezing temps. and just to change out if you fall into cold water and it is not 100F that day.
    got a good cb? ham radio? not all places have cell service...but if your rich a satellite phone.
    set up like this you can be safe. a friend broke his shoulder, it was just a crack. but required a air lift out. (at the dam on the rubicon JEEP trail).

    Good video. One thing to add on the rope ladder idea...its not new and ive used a very similar technique in the past. If you only have one and you don't have a locker you can apply the brakes or emergency brake lightly to transfer the torque back to the other wheel.

    • @montechie
      @montechie 3 года назад +6

      +10 to this, that brake/e-brake trick by itself can sometimes get an open-diff vehicle out of a bind. Especially all-wheel drives with open-diffs. (from personal experience :))

    • @wes61471
      @wes61471 6 месяцев назад +5

      ^^^^ This, I've used this trick on steep, wet boat ramps many times when pulling a boat out of the water. Just manipulate the e-brake until the wheels stop spinning and you'll gain traction.

    Using the 5thtire/spair tire works way better than the dead man anchors. You must dig a narrow trench for the cable to be straight and not pull the anchor upward and out. The trench can be done with the dead man anchor but weakens the wall a lot more than just a single cable. Ihad to use the tire trick once in sand and nothing even with the winch pulling over the tire it wouldn’t come out

    Great video! Too many people don't try out their recovery devices until they're SOL. The "efficiency" of the Maxtrax has made them my 3rd goto tool of choice in the snow behind airing down and a shovel. I still carry chains for those extra sketchy routes or for drift busting, but haven't used them to get unstuck since getting the boards.

  • @XCountryAdventures

    With the use of one ladder and unlimited slip you should be able to hold the brake with some pressure to eliminate one tire spinning. If done correctly the power will be sent to both rear tires equally.

    i had a Situation with a buddys Nissan Navara, the car got stuck in dry sand, 4wd will malfunction and not engage not Diff Lock nothing. we first tied a rope around the wheel as you do with the ladder, then the same happened as in the video the other Wheel keeps spinning. So we had another rope around the other tyre and tied it to the first rope. as we pulled us out, the ropes due to the angle of the ropes slipped off the tyre after 2 Revs and clinched the E-brake cable and a Sensor cable.
    We got out just before nighttime but makeshift things always comes with a price. Cheers

Also ur last thing... It's called a jackall btw and u should mount a pad on bottom and angle it top away from truck so it doesn't dent truck.... Thanks for the video but gotta say a lil noobish :p

    Great video, some criticism meant well. Can you please make sure the music and your voice are the same or close in volume. Music was just so much louder than your voice.

    First thing to do is bring a hot blonde. Second thing is to bring some good whiskey. Everything else is a mere inconvenience to do without, lol
    Seriously though, you should definitely never connect two straps or ropes with a metal bow shackle like that. You just gave that gun a bullet to fire.
