Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. I would think well he doesn't own them so, I have no reason to be jealous. But then I'd be saddened that I have to go to an office tomorrow and not drive cool cars around.
I imagine it is fun to drive a new car every week, many of which are away beyond the reach of most of us. Sometimes it is probably hard to have to turn over the keys.

Contrary to the majority of the market, I love the transmission to have a good bit of jolt when shifting. Let me feel the metal slamming around!

Funny people are like this car is outdated however I personally like it and that v8 sounds amazing plus Lexus reliability, I admit the Germans do have better performance cars but reliable on them is sub pair at best for most German sedans
This is a coupe not a sedan but I do agree about the reliability, which makes this something you can own for a lifetime with minimal trips to the shop. If it were a German performance car it would essentially implode after the warranty period.

@@caglioso Exactly. If I have infinite money I buy an M3/4. I would buy this car over a BMW ALL DAY. Toyota reliability. Can't beat it. Toyota won me as a customer for life 100%. They make a car that literally last longer than you would ever drive it. Would love to own one of these in the next 5 years.

I really like the interior on this. I don't know why but it seems like the perfect blend of modern and classic analogue interiors. Much better than the Germans with all their nonsensical touchscreens everywhere. Another big plus is that Lexus does not make drivetrains that grenade themselves like the Germans do.
Love my GSF. Nothing like a natural V8. Cant get enough of it!

One more thing, the traction control is not fully disabled when you push the button and see the yellow light in the dash. There are still some nannies still on. To fully disable it, you have to push the traction control button and hold it down for about 10 seconds and it will completely turn off everything. You can then enter the expert mode from there. The RCF's transmission is supposed to shift at max speed in high revs. That is how it was designed with the torque converter lock-up from 2nd gear onwards in manual/sport+ mode. It is harsh because it was intended to be mechanical engagement focused like a clutch compared to the GSF, which is smoother since GSF was intended to be more daily driver. This goes together with the noise insulation and softer suspension on the GSF since it is a bigger, heavier and more practical sedan.
I would get myself arrested the first day.... that v8 NA is TOO GOOD.
In a sports car, it is not easy to meet 3 elements; fun to drive + comfort + economical. So, this is a kind of ideal sports car Toyota created.
Economical and the words sports car sound blasphemous in the same sentence. I don’t think anybody is thinking about economy when buying sports cars, unless they are living beyond their means.
This car is going to be the "Highschoolers first sports car" 15 years from now.
You know how lucky teens are going to be 15 years from now with all the great used car options they will have. Even all the econoboxes are so nice compared to what they used to be.
@@THEGAMINGHELP101 yeah, but 15 years from now they'll have much better cars. Just like the cars 15 years ago that were top of the line. I feel like this car will be a rare find though, because it didnt sell well. Ive seen more lambos and ferraris in my town than I do this car.
Josh This car would probably be closer to 25k-35k depending on mileage and spec, definitely not a high schoolers first car.

I may be biased, but personally I love this car. It's our performed some of the best German rivals when it came to handling. Thunder Hill and Buttonwillow I've been able make better times than a newer BMW M3 though that easily could be driver skill than vehicle ability. Either way, it's a great car.
Thank you for talking about the transmission programming in non sport+ D mode! Nobody else really covers that, but it looks like it's a big step up from the auto logic in my IS F, which is probably one of the worst things about the car to me. Definitely considering going up to an RC F - it just looks like the perfect evolution of the IS F rather than a revolution.

Its a bit overpriced and sedan sales are declining. In Canada the msrp for a rc f approaches BMW M4 territory, surpasses m3
This should have been the brother for the Supra, same as the SC back in the 90s. Redesign the chassis to optimize performance, reduce the weight to around 3500lbs, DCT, offer 2 existing engine platforms and make a new inline 6. The interior looks 100% better than the BMW Zupra.
Not to mention this would probably smoke a Supra

d34thby1337 its not way faster but yes it barely puts down better acceleration,and quarter mile numbers. Not something to brag about being that this Lexus is a 3900lbs, 2+2, NA car from 2014. But the Track Edition beats the Zupra.(I don't care about $$$ before someone points that out)
The new Zupra falls way short of anything impressive by todays standards.

That’s Aisin automatic transmissions for you I mean its a transmission that’s been out since 2008 Lexus IS-F.
Looking at market value of the RC-F many have fallen into the mid 30’s ranges. The competition is so stiff for these cars in this class. But as a former Lexus GS/LS V8 owner this cars will be sought after once it hits the 20K range.

Great review overall, but RCF especially the carbon fiber/TVD is better than the E92 M3 objectively. It is a generation newer. Much newer, modern and faster. I also considered the GSF, but it felt too big and was quite a lot softer than the RCF (RCF chassis and suspension are quite a bit stiffer). Though, not much, but the GSF is a 100 lbs heavier.

@@referencechannel996 Thanks. I would say, for my personal taste, I found RCF better than M4, which is why I chose to buy it. Other people might go for the default M badge, but that high-rev V8 is just too addictive.

The car is overweight, isn't as sharp as the Germans or as powerful. Do you care about any of that? No - because name me another 5.0L V8 that sounds this good that is in a car this well screwed together. A BMW M4 would be faster & the Mustang GT350 a sportier drive, but neither combines the two like this one with Lexus reliability.

That transmission might be a little slow. But you can probably guarantee it will last and be reliable.
Another great review from you. Your first POV track review of the RCF was a big help. I have a 2016 RCF with Carbon Fiber/TVD in Molten Pearl. Overall, your review is one of the best and spot on. I have had this car for 2 years and it has been a phenomenal car. Only part I disagree with, is that it is not quite as good as E92 M3. I actually drove the E90 M3 sedan extensively as I was this close to buying one. RCF is better in almost every respect except the weight and the 8300 rpm redline. RCF is more powerful/faster, feels much torqueier, more modern interior/platform and has faster recorded lap times on most tracks (not that it matters to average drivers). All in all, still a great review.
KLRGT500KR want to one up as well, love the car! Anything to look out for? How’s the upkeep on normal maintenance? It’s a Lexus, I know..
@@markandlew Sorry for the late reply, but maintenance is awesome. Zero issues. Only expensive stuff are the parts like tire replacement etc. and service is a few hundred dollars. Other than that, the car is built like it would run perfectly for 100 years.

Love the rc-f but why do they always give the most boring interiors for testers? You would think brands would want to show off as much as possible instead of the boring all black. The red interior of the rc-f is light years nicer.
Thank you for this. This was a real review so I could actually tell how it behaved and acted on the road, and none of the stuff I didn't want to hear. Please, if you can, test the 2020 one some time because I may have to grab one after having an SC400.

It's official. A 2020 RC F, in red with the performance package is my rwd daily driver dream. It's a shame there's no turbo, but whatever.

I'm a delighted RCF owner in Japan, it was a dream car, I bought it brand new, and I can only confirm everything you said. This thing is probably one of the best cars out there, period. Amazing engine, amazing body control and grip, soundtrack is divine ... reliability, fun.
It is a great all rounder, to cruise, have fun, hoon around. I just adore it. At some point i thought of trading for a LC500 ... but no, RCF keeps the crown. If one can forget about spreadsheet racing, and just drive this thing, it is winner, and a grower. Oh, one point on the transmission, it shifts a lot faster if VSC disabled, sports + activated and manual mode ! (and warm enough) then its really quick ! Also, you'll see the GSF is exactly the same as transmission goes. I know many say RCF is just garbage and GSF is the best, for me they drive the same now the RCF has the adaptive suspension ... Thanks for the great review !
@Rain , well first off its about 350 lbs heavier ... and it isn't F crafted, no TVD, no oil cooler, trans cooler ... its an awesome car, and yes its body control is even sharper than the RCF, but its more a very high end luxury coupe more than a true sports coupe. I love the way the LC looks, its straight up concept car on the road, but, the RCF has an edge to it ...
But it's slow.
@Ackj 375718 I made that comment because I've beaten one from a stop/roll. They're not fast because they're whales. I never said they don't make good power, just too heavy. In fact, the previous generation 'is-f' is quicker due to weight.

I've owned a 2015 RCF for 6 months. Looks and sounds great but the gear ratio really ruined it for spirited driving style, 2nd gear goes up to 70mph. 😒

The part where I don't like this car most. The insertion slot where the part where I catch attention most is a CD. Lexus is forcing to listen to music by a CD by all means.

I just saw this too..... 2016 with 35k miles for 37k$. Insane deal. Idk how it can depreciate more than an m4 but have 100x better reliability.

Yeah my corvette handles way way better. And for this kind of power you are better off getting a crown vic and mercury maurader and putting a electric turbo on it and a dyno tune. My maurader has 400hp to the wheels with 4.10 gears its just as fast as this pos the way i have it set up with a electric turbo it come on when i floor it and i get a nice 75hp boost
Lexus and Nissan which can make the mission that I shift fastest in the world and can change. The flash of lightning functions that can shift faster such as Lexus LFA and GSF, ISF are possible, but it is the engineering that there is not other than Lexus that I delay it a little daringly, and build up the moderate shift sound and shift shock to a human being.
I outrun it, and a painting technology of the Lexus, the quality of leather are the number one in the world. And LED is the thing which Japan made, but the LED light technology is the number one in the world.

how does the RC F compare to the LC 500 as a daily? What is your preference between RC F, GS F and LC 500?
Car looks and performs great but the 2 things that suck are the wheel ( looks like a 350 z wheel) and the interface ( middle console ).
My only complaint is for you tho, use your big boy voice.. That is all.

Can anyone confirm if for 2019 RCF they did away with full red leather seats? I know for 2020 full red is no longer an option it’s limited to more of a two tone on the colored leathers.
They are a great car. Had mine for for a few months now and I'm getting use to it. Mad when you want it. Comfortable when its needed. Plus I have a mad colour. 👌👌👍👍❤

If you put the LKA system to high sensitivity it will maintain the lane a lot better.
