Here's my take: A 392 is 98% of a Hellcat for 50% of the price. If you want to take your car out to the track...buy a Hellcat. If you just want to drive it on the street and have fun...buy the Scatpack or T/A.
Saw the first video, thanks for doing this follow up. This sums up everything I and other 392 owners have been saying for awhile. The Hellcat is a beast for sure, but making that power usable is hard on the street. I've done rolls against Hellcats and hold my own because I'm in my power band without waiting on boost or spinning the tires out. No need for power adders, slap on some thick rubber!
I realize im about 2 years behind but your videos are great and you share a ton of info. Thanks for all your hard work! Much appreciated! I'm hooked to my 2018 Scat Pack w/shaker!
RacerX thanks for consistently putting out content on the scatpacks, you definitely influenced my decision in getting one, mine is 2 weeks old and I absolutely love driving her, I do so every chance I get and I look forward to it, great “little” car lol.
I’m a German sports sedan guy but for some reason I love watching your muscle car content man. All the number driven tests are really my jam. I appreciate your work! It also helps me know what I can hang with in my luxury 4 door (450hp Audi s4, supercharged 3.0l V6). So far she’s right in there with the stock 392/GT/SS crop of muscle cars on highway pulls (60-130 in the 11 range). I REALLY like lining up from a dig though. 4x255 on 9.5” with AWD helps me blitz off high 3 second 0-60. ALMOST none of the muscle car guys expect it as I scoot off. So cool we live in a time where there are so many great high performance and affordable options!
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to do this tire comparison, it is interesting to see what happens with each test and what the tire will actually deliver under street conditions. Thank You!
You working with the drive modes to get the best 0-60 inspired me. I bought a 4395 pound 2020 Charger Scat Pack in late April. Before "having fun" with it, I took it through the 100, 300, 500 and 1500 mile Dodge-recommended break-in procedure that I found in the manual. Today I went out to see what 0-60 I could get with the 245 Goodyear Eagle RS-A2s that came on it. I left the tires at 32 psig cold, with the only warm-up being driving for about 30 minutes to get to a safe place to run. I set up a custom drive mode with the Transmission set to Track and the Traction set to Street. I foot stalled the engine to 2000 and then floored it from a standstill. The computer showed a 0-60 of 4.8. Ambient temp was 77 with 70% humidity. The pavement was rough asphalt. The engine is stock. The only thing I have done to the vehicle is physically replace the AES valves with straight pipe and install an Active Exhaust Solutions AES simulator kit.The tires did spin in 1st and 2nd and maybe some in 3rd, but not as bad as they do in Street or Track mode. I guess this is because the traction control stays on with Traction in Street mode. I plan to get some different rear tires later, maybe some 275 (stock 20x9 wheels) Nitto NT05s, the street version of the NT05R. Thank you for all of your hard work to make all of your very informative videos!
Another good video mentioning the Scatpack. I have a 2016 Scat Shaker 392 since new its one of the funnest cars I've owned. Just picked up a set of new Hellcat Replikas 20x11 & 20 x9.5. I'm going with 315's and 275's. I have 275's on the rear and 245's on front and still find I don't get a lot of traction. Great vids!
At first I was like who is standing behind him in a raincoat then I realized 3 minutes later that it was Halloween decorations😂😂😂. Ok back to the video
I have a 2020 scat, 100% loaded with every option except for not being a widebody. I paid 41k even before TTL. As much as I would have loved the bragging rights and supercharger whine of a Hellcat, the massive price difference makes the 392 a much more compelling offering. The hellcat also seems to be unusably powerful unless you're driving with the right tires under perfect circumstances. For the money I'd rather just get the new C8.
Thank you for your content and hard work. I have a 21 scatpack widebody. Love ripping that thing around town. With 1 person 3/4 of a tank of gas and the ac off I can reliability hit low 4s 0 to 60. Best time being a 4.0. Granted I live in Minnesota but our summers still hit 90 plus days. But man the widebody with just the stock 305 perellis grab pretty good. 1st set only lasted 7k miles but now I have michelin pilot sport and they grab even slightly better. But man what a sweet spot for the money. Stop light to stop light it's a riot to drive. I find joy in that almost shit your pants feeling for a second or 2 followed by your heart pumping . It gets looks too in the beautiful indigo blue and the huge brembos . 90 percent of people say nice hellcat at the gas station lol.
Thanks, RacerX. The point of your videos was to answer the question, "Is a Hellcat worth the money over a Scat Pack for street driving?" The answer, with two videos in different conditions, is clearly no. Only if you take your car to the track regularly should you invest in a Hellcat.
I have a 2012 SRT Charger with the 6.4. Stock on the street 0-60 with Michelin Pilots it was 4.7. I added the Procharger P1SC with the larger intercooler and using the tune that came with it. Now with traction control on in street mode I hit 0-60 in 5.8. Just no traction. However without spinning tires it's so much more fun from the midrange power and up. 0-60 times don't matter. And oh the sound from the blow off valve is fricking awesome. I left off the plastic panel covers underneath so it's even louder. I don't drag race bc I haven't changed the pistons.
Here's the deal: great comparison as far as all the work you put into doing all those tests. Thanks! BUT, after drag racing for 37 years the one factor I didn't hear you mention & you have left out, which is super vital is, the hellcat charger has to be at least 300lbs heavier being its a 4 door, plus blower and cooler water weight than the 2 dr N/A challenger which would make a Huge difference in All your times & comments. It's too bad you didn't have the same type vehicle at least for all the tests. But it was still cool all your hard work & results. Thanks again. I guess that's why folks got a Demon or super stock challenger from the Dodge aspect of things. I have a funny feeling here at the Assembly plant, from the lead engineers saying when Dodge pipes in the big block screaming audio sounds in the cabin of the 2024 AWD EV Muscle car with instant over 1000++ TQ and it hooks up instantly, I think you're going to see alot of dealers with older used gas fueled dodge muscle cars of all kinds from owners trading them all in for This EV Monster. Most likely it will miss Detroit, but By April in NY it will land for viewing by All. Of course this is a educated guess.😉🤐
LOL. LMAO, even. No one wants one of those except smooth-brained zoomers. In five years, you'll have lost 30% of your battery function and range. EVs are a pipe dream...and a homosexual one, at that.
Awesome sauce brother, that was some work moving those wheels back and forth. Thanks for your dedication and keep the vids coming👍👍👍👍👍👍 Cleburne Texas, 2016 392 Scat Shaker. 26k
Hello Racerx, I'm a mustang owner going to a Dodge sometime this fall. Been debating for challenger scat pack or charger. Obviously I want power but I'm a daily driver. Not a track person. Been watching ur vids for a hot minute and seeing ur opinions and results with the scatpack vs hellcat.... Even on my own budget lol I definitely want a charger scat pack. Thank you for all the dedicated time explaining the facts with all you do.
Great information and comparisons.. I love your charts and numbers to have real world data.. I have 315's on my car and I am looking to buy some new drag tires..
I actually did a 3.7 0-60 in my scat with the 555r2 nitto. 3.8 the next time. Did a 3.6 with same tire/wheel on my hellcat. Hc ran a 3.4 with the et street r setup like you ran. All times on street
I’m looking at setting up a street beast . Looking at doing a package s1025 . And wanting to do 15” wheels welds. Is it worth the money for 15” vs 17 “ welds ? And what the best way to go about upgrading?
I'm about to buy my first Scat Pack. I'm definitely taking it easy until I get used to that beast. I have a BMW 550i xdrive, but that runs way different
Thanks for the efforts you put into your videos to share such great content with us! Here in Michigan, some of us add sandbags in the rear cargo areas across the rear axle for better traction. I know weight is the nemesis in racing but given how much HP & torque those cars have, would adding say 210lbs (3 - 70lbs sandbag tubes) provide more down force on the rear wheels to help them “hook-up” better?
Sc is rated 4.3 0-60 so I would say spot on with your times. No matter what 4.5 & under for both challengers is quick enough for daily driving. Anything faster and most people would probably wrap it around a pole or something.
I know this is an old video, but just to give my stats. Scat Pack A8 with 275 Nexens on back, launch control at 1800 RPM I was able to get 3.9 on the street and 3.7 on a prepped drag strip. Before I had the 275 Pirellis all season and best was 4.5 on street. Now I have a Scat Pack wide body M6 with 305 summer Pirellis. Best is a 4.6 shifting 2nd to 3rd using launch control.
Thanks for all the work you put in to show whats what...crazy how the numbers were all over the place but like you said, too many variables. Have you considered a similar test between the two on a drag strip to try and equalize as much as you can?
Thanks for your commitment to excellence and the education. you earned a subscribe sir. Thank you!! P.S. 2020 Scat Pack 1320 owner here :) with nitto 275/40-20y tires from the dealer.
very good video...every time i race a hellcat o to 60 i get them most of the time but after that ....they are gone ,th best i did with my scat was 4.1 with all season tires lion heart to be precise, 28 degree weather lol ....with MT tires i got 3.8 seconds so tires are very important....very good video keep them coming
Good job on video . I am building a AWD 6.0 GMC Putin in 3600 stall big heads big cam 650 lift 250 dur. Geared 373 .At light will be interesting with a Hellcat on street at light.😮 Should be around 600 hp on motor n/a
From what I've seen from these 2 videos, I'm gonna conclude the scat pack is more of a street car where the hell cat is a track star. I'm not a track racer, but I love a challenge on the street!
Hello, im a new owner of a 2014 SRT Super Bee. I"m the 3rd owner and it has cold air intake and cat back exhaust mods. I didn't do them and I believe it has a custom tune. It has Atturo AZ850 tires. I've been trying to figure out the cars abilities and would like to know if this car would ever do a 2.0 in the 0-60mph ? I ask because the memory of the car is showing a 2.0 for the best run in 0-60. The best I"ve done so far is 5.2. This is my wife DD and we took it to Xtreme 2 weeks ago just to see what it'll do in the 1/8. She did 3 runs and I did 2. Our best run was 8.02 @ 87 Mph. Our 60' sucked at 1.8 sec i believe..... can't find the slip photo. I guess my overall question is what do I need to do or where can I go to learn how to make it quicker as we'd like to take it to the track more often, it was a lot of fun. S Dallas area
good video showing the different tires the 3.92 come with 3.09 rear standard and the HC is a 2.62 rear so the redeyes have the 3.09 option not sure if you order the 3.09 in the HC I swapped one world of a difference
Appreciate all your efforts for us to view and great video . Here’s a question is the 2019 scat pack heavier than the 2018 , 2017 scat packs challengers etc ? And would you do the exact same build to a 2019 charger ? or would you build a 2019 hellcat Challenger ? One more thing the exhaust on the charger sounds so good . Keep up the great work !!!!!! . Cheers
No worries Mike.. I am not sure about the weight difference between the model years .. if they weigh less I was unaware. I do know the chargers about a hundred pounds more on both the 392 cars and the hellcats 👍
Hey RacerX, new to the Chanel and enjoy your videos. I recently got a 2020 Challenger Scat Widebody and it is a blast. I’m not at 500 miles yet so no Launch Control but in sport mode I pulled 4.3 on my second run. I totally agree with all of the variables but does the engine perform better as it breaks in?
Well good morning Paul did I see a jack under your rear? If it was such a no no throws carriage alignment off. As usual the great video. Damn I wish Texas was like 20 minutes away LOL
OLDSCHOOL 392 .. Richie I hope you are doing well my friend. Yes I always jack the car from the diff and and have had no issues whatsoever.. wish you were closer as well 👍
@@RacerX9 I just go by what I've read so X I have a slight vibration in my front wheel even after front end alignment 80 plus miles per hour I'm bouncing heads with Dodge about it do you know of anybody else who has had an issue like this as you know so many people the vibrations not bad enough visually shake the steering wheel but it's bad enough that you can feel it
I get from 4.2 to 4.5 with Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 in my SRT 392 Challenger. I guesd the Nitto nt555 drag radials aren't as good on the street as the Continentals are on a 392
Thank you sir. Ive been considering trading my 2019 z51 foe a scat pac. Im consistent 0 to 60 at 4.0 and 4.1 one day scored a 3.8 on 3 tries. Purely stock with michelins out back. Im glad you did the video. Im not wanting to go slower , but a little faster. so thanks btw i love the challenger, just traded my 2020 Sierra 6.2 for a RAM, just love it. I would stay with GM but they gave BLM 20 million in May . I guess GM has gone political, and not my direction. I still bleed Red White and Blue thanks again
Don't take this negatively. But I feel like you can do much better. I had the nt555r on my scat and I was doing 4.0 consistently on the street with25psi. And best times where a 3.9 I have pictures. IDK why u don't launch it by holding break an rev up to 1800 to 2000 then launch feather the throttle till u at at 4k to 5k rmp 1st year then full floor it.
It sounds like your leaving the line from engine idle speed. Why not hold the brake pedal, accelerate the engine to around 3000rpm, and then release the brake. Or maybe it wouldn't make a difference.
Here's my take: A 392 is 98% of a Hellcat for 50% of the price. If you want to take your car out to the track...buy a Hellcat. If you just want to drive it on the street and have fun...buy the Scatpack or T/A.
I wouldn’t say 98% since the hellcat literally makes double the power but I absolutely love driving the Scatpack as well 👍
By "98%" I mean what you can get down to the street from a standing start or basically what your testing proved.
@@RacerX9 485 x2 " 717? Damn lol
RacerX You mean it makes a little more than 200hp than the scatpack (stock for stock) not double.
@yegershot 3.90 is the manual 392 gear ratio. 3.09 is the automatic.
Racer x has me looking at tires to buy for a car I don’t even own yet 😂. Man I’m way down the rabbit hole

Joshua Croft .. great point my friend .. the Scatpack is very efficient in the way that it puts the power down 👍
Well said. HP means nothing without traction and grip...just fancy smokeouts.
Good video man, I just got my Charger ScatPack yesterday!! 🐝💨

very good video...every time i race a hellcat o to 60 i get them most of the time but after that ....they are gone ,th best i did with my scat was 4.1 with all season tires lion heart to be precise, 28 degree weather lol ....with MT tires i got 3.8 seconds so tires are very important....very good video keep them coming
Very solid times my friend.. especially on the stock tires.. keep up the good work
I have a 2021 challenger scat pack wide body can I get 4 of the305 mt et steet r and always drive on those
Good job on video .
I am building a AWD 6.0 GMC
Putin in 3600 stall big heads big cam 650 lift 250 dur. Geared 373 .At light will be interesting with a Hellcat on street at light.😮 Should be around 600 hp on motor n/a
Do you recalibrate the speedo with the different tire sizes? Or is it negligible?
That’s actually a great question my friend. All tires are very close to the same height 👍
What did you need to fit to stock scat pack to use MT 305-17
From what I've seen from these 2 videos, I'm gonna conclude the scat pack is more of a street car where the hell cat is a track star. I'm not a track racer, but I love a challenge on the street!
What do you think would happen if they were all wheel drive? Would they hook?
Great video I appreciate your honesty
Interesting experiment......thanks for the info Racer....yet to put those nittos on my Cat
Thanks buddy.. I would get the Mickeys if it was me 👍
@@RacerX9 noted.....I was going to ask which you preferred
I liked the vid X! Curious, was the road concrete or asphalt?
Thank you Jay.. The road was concrete but it was pitted and somewhat uneven.. it was definitely not ideal
Just did a 4.5 on track mode on stock tires. Could have done better in my opinion. 2019 charger scat pack.
Great content and video. Trying to figure out another tire and wheel setup for my Challenger 1320.
good video showing the different tires the 3.92 come with 3.09 rear standard and the HC is a 2.62 rear so the redeyes have the 3.09 option not sure if you order the 3.09 in the HC I swapped one world of a difference
Just curious why u don’t use a 315 to try an put a little more meat to the ground?
You definitely need a pit crew for your tire changes. Next test put the skinnies in the rear 😂. Great video bro
Haha I actually thought about doing that 😂😂.. then I figured I might not survive the ordeal
RacerX it would be like driving on ice probably 😂
RacerX thanks for the reply I enjoy all your content . Have a great weekend . Cheers
So how ragged out is your Challenger already, since you obviously didn't do a proper break in before "pulling runs?"
At Kinney muffler getting my mid mufflers deleted...heard about this place from racerx
What is the condition of the street? I'd get 5.1 in my rt shaker & I now get 4.4 in my charger scatpack stock tires. Something is off for you.
The street is somewhat dusty and not completely even
Very informative!!
Thank you Clint 👍
Fantastic channel!
Spinnin ain't winnin. Haha. That was interesting to see the 17" wheel and drag radial combo on the street 👍👍
B5 BEAST absolutely my friend.. I love those ET Street R’s 👍
RacerX I plan on getting a set of those next year with the front runners 💪💪👍
Just got lucky on that 4.3. It spins like crazy.
Awesome time consuming testing. 👍
Do you think the MT SS's are a better drag radial than the Nitto triple 5's?
Thank you Fastman.. yes I believe the Mickeys are better 👍
Does the Hellcat sound a lot better and/or louder and/or meaner than the 392?
Christmas videos coming soon I can't wait🎅🎅🤶🤶🎅🎅
300Srt- 8 lol.. ho-ho 😂
I guesd the Nitto nt555 drag radials aren't as good on the street as the Continentals are on a 392
You're very consistent with your 0-60s
Jw why not use the launch control?
Great video RacerX! A lot of time to do all of this so thanks. Can you put the 305s on stock rims? I think I read only up to 275s would fit.
Mike Shelby .. thank you my friend.. yes you can run the 305 tires on the 9 1/2 inch rims .. no problem
Do you leave your traction control on or off?
awesome video!
If your best ET in the Scat Pack was in street mode, why not stay in that mode and add heat and try 2nd gear?
I actually tried that without recording but didn’t get a better result 👍
Your videos do help other people your efforts were well spent
Are you letting cold down the cars after runs , if not that’s why every time after few runs you times will go up
The hellcat has a killer chiller and the Scat has a Tazer.. no issues at all with heat soak on either car luckily
Jack It up by the swingarm and you don't need the short links.
It sounds like your leaving the line from engine idle speed. Why not hold the brake pedal, accelerate the engine to around 3000rpm, and then release the brake. Or maybe it wouldn't make a difference.
The 392 seems like the most traditional big engine muscle car
excellent video
That Hellcat is a BA car! I want one bad!
