So . . . I may be crazy, but I tried sewing a dress without even looking at a pattern. That's right. I took a modest dress and copied it all on my own! Come along with me and see if it was a smashing success, or just a waste of time! Has the gold color chipped/wore off the band? I bought a similar one from Amazon and the color started chipping off and now doesn’t look so nice.
I've had it for at least 2 years and it still looks great!
Thanks, good to know! I’ve only had mine about 6 months, but I know not all Amazon products are created equal!
Well, I've been sewing for 50+ years and never thought about using cheap wrapping paper for pattern making, and knives as weights! You are so smart and have such great ideas, Megan. I so enjoy watching you!
Megan : makes a dress in 2 hours *very easy, nice pattern, pretty fit*
Me : try to make a dress. 1 week later : this is a splendid potatoe bag 😅
haha! You're so funny! So sorry you wasted a week!
Lol I’d do the same thing.
😂😂
@@MeganFoxUnlocked well, I didn't know at first, but believe me a potatoe bag can be really handful, I don't want this haute couture to be wasted. It's a unusable dirty clothing bag for now, and it's prettiest that the clothing inside 😅😂 thanks for your reading Megan !
😂😂
Megan, you ARE the proverbs 31 woman! You most certainly did teach us something- lots of things in fact! I could never use a pattern, either, but I never attempted CLOTHING- only home decor. Big difference! You are amazing! 😊😉❤❤❤
Hey, that if fun and saves money too!
I'd love it if you could do more sewing blogs. Please. 😊
Fletcher saying mama so cute,
I know! Melts my heart!
I highly recommend getting a rotary cutter and mat! Cutting knit fabric with scissors tends to make it wonky. You can cut it super straight without it getting stretched if you use a rotary cutter.
Nea Hughes where can I find one? Other than online ?
@@AnimewithAnab walmart has the same ones the craft stores do but cheaper. Honestly though I do not like mine, but I think its because I need fabric weights and a bigger mat but the mats are not cheap
@@mollyl8704 thank you so much ! I’ll check out Walmart!
My mom harped on me about the same exact thing...."don't ever cut anything but fabric with your sewing scissors"! I have to keep mine hidden away, because the cheap dollar store ones for paper and crafts always seem to go missing.
Baseball sleeves = Raglan sleeves. 😉 You are stinking adorable. I’m not a big dress person, but every time I see these I think I want to make and wear dresses.
Lauren Walker love the glasses
I loved watching this video! The dresses turned out 👌🏻! A tip from me- once you have your pattern exactly right take a piece of fabric that you don’t want to use (old double knit is perfect 😂) and make your pattern out of fabric. It’s stays put and you can leave your kitchen knives in the drawer. 😉 Seriously, you can cut a dress in less than half the time. Great video, as always.
Ooo! I'm thinking reversible dress with that doubleknit!
Becki Jameson same!
Fletcher is a doll! I'm not into sewing, but I can appreciate your creativity and ingenuity.
Girl! You are amazing! Thanks so much for posting!
I am a sewist. I have so much fabric and not enough time to sew it all. I'm so excited to see your pattern/dress.
Megan, this made me think of my grandmother. She would cut patterns for everything. I'm in my 70's so that was a long time ago. I'm sure she couldn't afford a pattern if there were any. Thanks for the memories. I love you I can do it attitude about so many things. Good job.
You are so resourceful! You did a fabulous job . Thanks for this helpful tutorial , Meghan
I’m loving tour videos.
Megan!!! You did a wonderful job!! Love your channel!Keep up your great example!

Awesome job Meghan!!
Megan, you have such a wonderful energy!
Look out! I'm starting to look longingly at my sewing machine! Haven't touched it in years - you're great inspiration, Megan!
Megan, you have no idea how much I appreciate this tutorial. You’ve demystified sewing for me. I’m diving in! I’ll post my progress on social media and will tag you.
It’s so hard as a mom to make time for crafting but you’ve inspired me 😍 I love seeing & crocheting!
Wow Megan, nice job, the dress looks really nice on you. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness!! This was awesome to watch!! Beautiful dress ❤
Look at you!!! You are so talented!
I'm impressed! Your dress turned out so cute! Great job.
Your dress is so cute. Good job!
Megan, This was so much fun ... I was on pins & needles ( ha, ha) waiting for the outcome ... Great job ! ! U have definately inspired me ❣
Love your trick with the knives!
The final dress you sewed together looked awesome you did a great job😁
Great video Megan!!! You did such an awesome job! You've inspired me and hopefully others!
Awesome content! Thanks for being brave and sharing your process!!!
I love that you showed yourself trying something new and the ups and downs. I am trying to learn how to sew myself, I always have such a hard time finding t-shirts that fit right, I never thought of making one myself. I mostly only sew for home decor. I think I may make a t-shirt based on one I already have, what a great idea!
Megan, ,, I loved watching this video. I reminded me so much of how my Mom made us dresses, using the dress we loved over and over. Thanks for sharing
i love the darker material, so very nice, good job!
Megan you are so industrious! I'm super impressed❤
This was really fun to watch!! Those dresses came out beautiful!
Hi, great job. Both dresses came out beautiful and look comfortable. Thank you for sharing.
You did a great job!! Looks really nice.
Great job !! Love the dress pattern on you. Really love the flow of the black dress. Blessings and love sent to you and your family.
Wow. So glad for you that it turned out! With 4 growing girls at my house, I'm constantly adjusting patterns to fit us and it's so rewarding to get the right look and fit. Love the wrapping paper tip.
Truly inspirational! I have a tunic top that I've worn so much and haven't been able to find a replacement. You've motived me to want to make myself another one. Thank you! 🙂
I’m so impressed with your skills. It was very inspirational!
I’ve been sewing since I was 7 and I’m 62 ...I. Think it’s great that you are taking the initiative to learn to sew...Great job!
Wow... you did an incredible job! Thanks for sharing this video 😊
oh my this turned out so well!!!! how exciting that you were able to replicate a favorite!!! I would LOVE if you gave us the run down on how you adjusted the neckline to make it tighter !
Signed up for SkillShare! Thanks girl! Love hearing the reminder that it's possible to continue the hobbies you love (or learn new ones ) with littles running around. #momgoals
I am so impressed, and I love the fabric!! I am inspired!
I absolutely loved this video! I have been wanting to learn to sew dresses and skirts. This was very helpful.
Super cute Megan dress at the end Megan!!! I just love your video's and how you are so positive!!!! : - )
Wow, looks awesome!
More sewing videos!!!! I love this. You’re so personable and entertaining to watch. I enjoy your honesty with the seam ripper too… If you want to sew, you’d better know how to undo when necessary! 💜 I would love for you to show us a make for your kids! May you and your family be so incredibly blessed-always.
Thank you for sharing... the dress turned out great.
My mother taught me to sew. She used news paper for making patterns and butter knives just like you are doing. Brought back many memories. I need to start sewing again. Thank you very much. I just found your video today.
This was excellent. I taught myself to sew a little about 2 years ago. I have 2 dresses that I adore, and I have been thinking how much I want to replicate them too. I was planning to use them as a pattern and do what you did today. Now you have totally inspired me. Thank you!!
Wow Megan! If I could give this video TWO thumbs up, I would! You are SO clever! And also so inspirational. I have really wanted to learn to sew for a long time now and your videos really seem to make me feel that it is possible for me to learn. ( I am kind of a klutz at sewing, my only sewing experience is from high school). Thanks for such a great video. I really enjoyed your previous one too about sewing a sack dress. 😄
You are so talented! Great vlog!!!
Love it. I do this with my clothes as well. Love drawing patterns. Great job
I am so impressed with your skill! I am an experienced quilter and made some of my own clothes when I was younger but never attempted without a pattern. You made it seem easy so, I may attempt it since I don't like most of the patterns today. I have made PJ pants but gave up and purchased a pattern. Thanks for sharing this fantastic video!
Loved the video and the pointers you gave. Also your editing skills are 👌!😊
You’re simply amazing! 🌹
Truly an inspiration! You can do it all! Impressive❤
I love your sewing tutorials. I work as a seamstress and I saw your other video a couple months ago and made a mustard colored one. It took only an hour and I made a matching sash for a headband or belt. I have worn it so many times, I just absolutely love your dress pattern. I am going to make another one in a more summer friendly fabric !
Thank you so much! I was planning on doing this and now I have a teacher. Great! As soon as I do mine I’ll let you know! They look vgreat on you. The beige dress collar looks great, maybe you don’t like it so open but it looks good on you. God bless you!
I pressed like because you immediately cheered me up!
Girl you are a pro.the dresses looks super smart and i must say the neckline of the first one looks nice in that shape
Great video Megan. I like seeing your process. I'm a long time experienced sewer and what you did is impressive. You are much more than a beginner sewer. The first knock off usually needs some tweaking and can take several attempts. You got it right on the second try. Kudos to you! Show us more of your sewing.
We'll done!! I've been sewing for many years but you have given such good ideas.. And you are Soo right about not using the fabric scissors for cutting paper ..
Hi Megan! I used the neckline video you referenced to finish a dress today, and it worked perfectly! I left a comment on her video. The first modest dress video you made inspired me so much that I made a dress from it, but I couldn’t figure out the neckline, so I repurposed the fabric for something else. Today I used a dolman-sleeve type “pattern” I made from a favorite shirt and a favorite skirt silhouette, and that combined with the neckline tips made the pattern work so PERFECTLY that I’m going to make a couple more summer dresses. Thank you so much for inspiring me! I’ve never been able to follow professional pattern, and this type of method speaks my language! I think your sewing videos are my favorite. Thanks again, Megan!!!
Your dresses turned out so cute! My favorite pin holder is a free magnetic tool dish that my husband picked up from harbor freight. It’s the best holder and pin picker-upper :)
Great job!! I've made my own patterns as well, just bc it's fun, right!! Very inspiring and I love the idea of the wrapping paper. I've always used parchment or butcher paper, but your idea is better. Thank u for sharing!
Love your channel and this video! I would love a step by step tutorial on this dress style!! And your glasses are so cute!!☺️
I recently made my first dress, and it’s so exciting to make my own clothes!!! I find it rather fun. I used McCall’s pattern 7349, and it was easy. Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics have certain pattern brands on sale for $2 every few weeks. I pretty much taught myself. RUclips videos are super helpful when unsure of something 😊
So talented!!
I am impressed with our perfectly you got that neckline and sleeves. YOU are amazing. I love dresses too.
GREAT job! The dresses look awesome!
Butter knives!!! Brilliant! Thank you Megan!
I love your creativity! Always admire when you can look at something and just make it yourself with out rules. That is such a great skill. Sadly one I do not possess.
It was so cool to see you talking about garage sale fabric. I get most of my fabric from garage and estate sales and always score big
So my mom just shared your Ch with me today, and I am so so happy!
As a Christian it’s so hard to find good styles so I want to start making my own dresses.
Thank you! So much 🥰♥️
This was an awesome video. I've been sewing since I was 8 and now I am, ummm, old! I've never tried to cut my own pattern but I now you have encouraged me to do so. Awesome job girl. Thank you.
Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh😱
Fletcher speaks.
Love u guys😍
LOVE these sewing videos! I try to do the same thing sometimes but not as quick as you haha. The dress turned out great 👍
Great job, Megan! It's easy to do once you work out all the bugs isn't it? Looks great!
Omg! Your baby is soo precious🥰😍🤩
This is amazing ‘ I’m so going to try one. Thanks for the great pattern idea!
I actually learned a lot from this video! I've never tried sewing before, but after watching a few of your videos I am motivated to try it out! My husband knows how to sew and has a pretty nice sewing machine, so I'm sure he could help me out too! I am not crafty or creative at all and I'm learning how to cook right now (Uhhg why did I put that off until my 30s?!?), but I think sewing might be next! Thanks for sharing this video! :)
Great result
You are amazing. I could never, never do this. But, I do love that you can do it.
That is so pretty! Thank yo for sharing:)
Megan, I have the same Bernina Activa 220. She is a little workhorse. I love this machine, she can do every kind of sewing. Love your tutorial.
