On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

I learned how to do buttonholes manually on an old flat bed machine, so when I got a new sewing machine with automatic button holes, I thought I was in seventh heaven. The first time I used it, I stuffed it up completely. It took me ages to get use to the automatic buttonholer.

Are you using a bad sewing machine? If you have a Singer brand sewing machine, then you'll likely spend more time fixing it than sewing with it.

@@alisa9040 growing up, yes, an ANCIENT Singer. I forget which brand I have now, but that's mostly because I fell pregnant & had horrible H.G. then finally my first baby just after I got it and haven't had the time to fiddle around yet! (So upset that that was the timing! Lol). Baby girl should be old enough to let me make her a Halloween costume tho for her 1st one this year!

I'm definitely with you on the pockets - it's nice to hear someone else have the same opinion! They're so annoying and time-consuming to sew, and I don't want extraneous pockets messing with the line of my skirts/dresses. I can see why a lot of people like having them, but for me I really only need pockets in my outerwear, otherwise I pretty much never use them.

Your dress is gorgeous! Also, if you like garments with buttons, you should look into a buttonhole attachment. Which one you need will depend on your machine but I love being able to do buttonholes on my nice strong 1930 Singer 66 instead of my weak 2 yr old Brother machine. Ebay, Etsy, and other such resale sites are a good place to start looking.

    • @Loepsie
      @Loepsie  4 года назад +1

Will a buttonhole attachment work on a machine that can't do zigzag stitches or move sideways? I thought they needed to sew back and forth for that, but I'd love to get something that works with my machine!

If you don't already know about them keep an eye out for a vintage buttonhole attachment that can work with your machine, perhaps? And there are vintage zig-zaggers too. Both are good and I have to say that as long as you go around the buttonhole twice the vintage buttonhole attachments make surprisingly good (very good!) buttonholes.
Nice job on the dress too - and once you've worn and washed it a bit and the linen softens it will just get nicer and nicer! :-D Now I'm off to find out what "Cottagecore" is - I've never heard of it before but I really like that dress.

I really enjoyed watching you sew this lovely dress. You are adorable and it was really sweet of boyfriend/hubby to help you draw the half circle. May I give you a tip? Measure where your waistline is again, you'll find that your true waistline is a bit higher up than the dress's waistline. The skirt will hang better and you won't have a slight bunching up at the sides of the bodice.

I was just thinking earlier while continuing my winter Edwardian skirt project how lovely it would be in a linen for summer, and after seeing that fabric, oh my I've got to get me some of that gorgeous fabric!!
Congratulations on your creation! You've come such a long way since that cute plaid skirt last autumn - I remember cringing at the thought of that unfinished inside waistband disintegrating in the washing machine after you'd worked so hard on it! This dress is absolutely beautiful and so so neat. Well done!
I've recently found a channel that's helped me a lot with my sewing: Evelyn Wood focuses on teaching vintage sewing skills so you can use them in your own projects. It suits my style of sewing a lot better than teaching that's very project-focused (e.g. do step 1, then step 2, then step 3, then you have this exact garment!) and it might suit your approach too.
Again, congrats on a beautiful dress! Can't wait to get let out to fabric shops again to find myself a similar fabric! Ooh I'm so inspired!

Look into getting a vintage buttonholer! they are amazing and work so well. It's amazing the technology they came up for just straight stitch machines! I have a 1947 Featherweight by singer, and scored a singer buttonholer with 9 button size templates for 40$ CAD. Look around, see what will work for your machine. They make the pretty buttonholes, easy to use(seriously it put the modern machine to shame) and well change your life.

@@Loepsie So from the video your machine looks like a low shank machine. So potentially the singer one will work on your machine. I tried to google the machine and model that I saw in the video, but it came out a whole lot of Polish lol. But if the singer buttonholer fits on my small featherweight, I'm sure it would work on yours. I did try to see if Lucznik made there own attachment or another European company. But again I only know English. If you do look at the singer, get a black one( not the white one from the 60's lol), in a green case. max templates are 9 sizes, sometimes they come with less so watch the count of them. Sorry for nerding out, I'm a seamstress and work at a local ballet. I just love sewing machines and attachments lol.

I think you can cut a slit on the front of the skirt from all the way to bottom. And you can add buttons all the way down too. That way the dress would look much much better.

I don't know if she does already, but she should totally sell dresses like this! I would totally buy that. This is the first video of hers I've ever watched, but I already love her channel

I love absolutely everything about this dress! I have been thinking about sewing something inspired by sondeflor as well, this came at a perfect time, thank you for the tips and inspiration! :) ❤️

Aw this turned out so lovely Loepsie! Your sewing skills have improved so much! I think your other older projects turned out nicely but this one is really beautiful.
I won't be making one for myself anytime soon but I might buy one, I have been eyeing Sondeflor's dresses for a while, I guess I'll wait for when you have a promocode!

I absolutely LOVE this dress, the earthy green and linen is so nice and looks so comfortable.
But I think if you cut the whole front and the whole dress can be open and close with button instead of just the top half, it will look a lot better.

I love sewing on my old 1960's flat bed sewing machine, but mine had a zigzag option, so I could do sewing machine buttonholes (using a manual method). Saves heaps of time. Might be time to upgrade your sewing machine.

I enjoyed this video. I don’t like pockets much either. It’s rare that I need them and they often add bulk. Thank you!
