I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

Consider it a beautiful wearable mockup? Even if you don’t get a lot of wear out of it because of the scratchy fabric, you now have a wonderful dress pattern that you can remake any time you find nice fabric!

A little tip: I find that if I spray antistatic or Febreeze (a spray to remove odors from fabric) on my polyester skirt it slides better and doesn't make the crinkle sound as much.

Hand sewing in zippers- a woman after my own heart! I find it so much easier to hand sew when accuracy is needed.
Also, though your personalities are very different, and you’re more soothing and calming than her chaotic good energy, I find that your attitude to sewing (and lack of mock-ups) and wanting to try things out and just go for it, is very similar to that of Rachel Maksy. I genuinely respect both of you for that.
I’m much more timid- the cutting anxiety is real! And I will do mock-ups over and over again until everything is perfect, then transfer that perfect mock-up to pattern paper, before I cut into my fashion fabric. The methodical way does work for me, but it takes forever! Especially as I’m really slow to begin with (I either hand stitch most things, or I can only spend an hour at most at the machine and cutting table per day, due to disability). So it means instead of making a garment in a few days, it can take me months. I wish I was a bit more adventurous with my fashion fabric, but I think that is also a side effect of being a poor, and not being able to buy new fabric if I make a mistake, and feeling awful about wasting money if I have.
But I watch your videos (and Rachel’s videos) and I wish that I had more of that “just give it a go” attitude. Especially as it usually turns out very well for you both.

I hate doing zippers, I can never get them looking good. I never thought you could hand sew them in. I'm going to give that a try with a new 50's dress I've been planning to sew for the wife.

    • @katherinemorelle7115
      @katherinemorelle7115 3 года назад +1

@@rapi6099 I’m a huge fan of secondhand bedsheets! I made a summer banyan using a couple of cotton bedsheets that belonged to my great grandmother (they were too small to fit on a modern single bed), and I’m just about to make an 18th century petticoat out of a brown bedsheet I got for $3 at my local op shop.
They’re definitely the cheapest way to get decent yardage, and there’s plenty of 100% cotton bedsheets about (I refuse to use polyester- I live in a hot and humid climate and wrapping myself in plastic is not a great idea!)

With the collar, I would do it as a separate piece and attach it with a button on either side of the zip and the center front neck so you can wear it without or with a different color one for variety. You could practice your embroidery on different collars, like cute acorns and leaves.

A note on the collar! You were actually super close! In my experience, I find instructions tell you to stitch the top collar piece to the dress wrong side of the dress to the right side of the collar. Then you press the under collar and that allows you to whip stitch the collar down neatly and also keeps the collar laying flat. No facing needed! ❤️

Next time first the sleeves in the dress and then sew the sleeves and the sides of the dress in one go. Much easier. The checkered patron goes better if you do the front fitting instead of the back. The collar indeed goes from the inside out XD and has to match with the checkered pattern at the front. If you made the dart from the middle to the breast it would have been easier to match the pattern. I admire your brave diving right into it not hindered by any knowledge of pattern making and sewing. Now you've made it in cheap fabric go for a nice wool-blend the next time. Would you like a petticoat under the skirt? Would look marvelous.

It looks so pretty! It looks amazingly snug for winter.
The collar may be sitting like that because there is too much curve in the pattern. If the curve is kinda straighter it pulls itself flat over the shoulder.
You should get a simple bodice pattern that fits you nicely then adjust it rather than having to draft from scratch on the form.

Watching your RUclips channel gives me the same vibe as watching About time with Rachel McAdams, idk why, but it's equally relaxing

I LOVE this dress! this pattern is amazing, love how it turned out! The idea of sewing the zipper by hand will save me many future frustrations lol it kinda bothers me a lot, especially with invisible zippers. Love your channel!

Very nice job. Looks fabulous. I also loooove checkered fabric😍. Maybe a tip for the collar:. The fabric is a bit heavy. If you use a thinner fabric for the under-collar, it will lay more flat. 😁🙋🏻‍♀️

These are my Favorite videos of yours! I started sewing in august and just finished my fifth garment, a pleated dress with long sleeves!

    It looks great.
    I'm learning from watching you.
I didn't know that hand sewing a zipper would be easier. Thanks for the tip.
Oh yeah I cut my own bangs after watching your past video of how to do it!😊
