talking about how strong the knight is, him being a breton and not doing any magic in the fight i headcanon that he spent all his magicka on a strength buff. imagine how effective an armored fighter could be with dumpster juggling levels of strength, probably swinging a 2-hander like it was styrofoam, straight blocking a full strength overhead strike from an axe wielding 300lb meathead, swatting said meathead into the air with your sword, then breaking said axe with a punch.

I'm gonna preface this by saying that I've never had access to any kind of club for learning armed fighting properly, I have no martial arts background, and none of the other people involved with what I'm about to say have had either of those:
While I was in college I used to sword fight as a hobby with some of my friends from school, and I actually fought against multiple opponents semi-regularly, often three and on one occasion four.
Again, I'm speaking from completely untrained experience, but when I watch this knight's movements and tactics they make intuitive sense.
My friends knew to try and surround me, and two of them had very aggressive fighting styles (the "I don't know how to fight carefully, I will hit you even if you hit me too" style), and I found that when the terrain failed me and I couldn't keep them all in front of me, the best way to keep them from attacking together was to reciprocate their aggression.
Spins to keep an eye on them all and sweep them back, rushing in close so that the one I'm charging couldn't maneuver and the others' options were limited, just try to hit their weapon so hard it shook out of their hand (worked a surprising number of times), anything I could do to buy myself breathing room while I waited for an opening to get them all in front of me again.

I believe the hooded figures are Breton battlemages, or battlemages in general. In Oblivion you can fight along side some battlemages, and they have hoods too. Might just be Elder Scrolls thing to distinquish mages from knights.

50:33 For the comment of "why didn't she use magic previously" I think it's quite obvious why she didn't: she did. That's quite literally how she started the fight. And then the dude was fine despite a big explosion. At that point it's now fallen into the camp of "to land an unconventional blow you must first present a conventional threat" because if the dude was fine blasted through a wall, safe to say it's probably not going to be that effective in a direct context and probably needs to come by surprise to maybe discombobulate him

41:10 is there a way to negate the leather shifting in a gauntlet? like, you said when you punched someone, your hand moved forward. is there ways to like, stop that? or is the leather intentionally looser? or would there be ways to support your arms and wrists in the gauntlet?
hmm, now I'm thinking of all sorts of ideas.

So in regards to the zweihanders/2 hand swords vs pike conversation you guys have around the 45min mark, you say it would probably get you killed pushing a bunch of pikes around.
This is very true, and thats why the Landsknecht had a specific role that was "double pay for extra risk" called Doppelsöldner. Those trained with the zweihander could automatically join that pay scheme as they were used to push in and cut down pike formations during the shot and pike era.

  • @froggers_

The thing is, he could have been aiming to just hurt and disarm them and not kill them tbh I mean why did he just punch them most of the time instead of using the sword to just straight up end them. I mean like he was gonna throw the barbarian off the roof (and from what I've known Barbarian archetypes are not really known to die from falling) like he could've as easily caved his neck in and finish him off.
Also those three are like main characters/good guys so like the knight outright ending their lives would just end the story immediately

Something to note though is that characters in the elder scrolls are so much stronger than in real life due to the people’s more mystical origins. Everything from the creation of the earth to the sun were created by supernatural means, so it would only make sense that they’re supernaturally stronger which allows them to put on heavier and tougher armor without being slowed down as much, and enchantments exist here so who knows.

Oh boy time for twelve years of research the Roman Empire to pay off. The Roman scutums size made projectiles negliable unless they penetrated the sheild itself. (See battle of carrhae). The scutum also lead to the death of the spear and pike until the middle ages. They were still used but just less effective. By using the scutums size and superior protection a Roman soldier could push past or move around the tip of a spear or pike negating its range advantage. Soldiers would often fail to draw their sidearm and be cut down. If they did draw their sidearm they were often barley trained to use it giving the Romans an advantage. The scutums only flaw way it's thickness it was still good enough for most engagements but even compared to early kite shields the scutums were thin. Though it would not have been hard to fix the design I imagine if to be went against a nation focused on projectiles the scutum would have been thickened. The scutum overall was an incredible tool for both offense and defense. Sorry for ranting here just had fun writing this.

Since the knight dude is a Breton, he has innate racial Magic Resistance, and they can also absorb the magic energy of the enemy to constitute it into their own pool. So he's likely using buffing type of magic to 1v3 in full plate w/ a big stick like that, since he's basically a lanky person due to being a Breton & all that. Especially since these are end-game tier Heroes power scale wise in-universe, all of their gear would have Enchantments too, just like player characters have enchantments on each piece, as well as on the weapons etc (hell even jewelry have enchantments too)
Also for Swole Elves, you might want to play the Witcher 3 game, as the Aen Elle are basically Elves but superior in both magic & swoleness compared to their peasant cousins the Aen Seidhe (the Elves in the Witcher world, and not in the world of the Aen Elle). I will say, style has a big factor in armor in the Elder Scrolls world. Enchantments allow even cloth to grant incredible protection, and so most places wore armor that was more visually representative of where they are from and their beliefs and protections from the gods/daedra (which in universe are known to exist for a fact) rather than particularly effective in its purpose. Though metal armor does protect more still.
Also the general existence of magic and its common use in conflict means most armor protection is relatively restricted anyways. Especially since lightning magic for metal armours, fire magic for hide/cloths and cold magic for everything all exist and are the most common forms of offensive magic used nearly universally by everyone.
The combination of Magic and Alternate Universe/They aren't actually human, allows handwaving of anything that would be deemed unrealistic in terms of capabilities of the individuals in either feats of strength or feats of survival.
All in all I did enjoy the analysis of the fight though.

    On both counts.
The team not acting as a team: That's because they are three enemies turned unlikely allies. (The world factions leaders are holding peace talks, and the Knight's underground faction wants to keep the war going so his group can seize power.) Each is a member of rival global powers and have actually faced off and fought one another multiple times in the past. Evena s members of their own factions, they don't play particularly well with others. They are very much 'lone wolf' characters who ocassionaly make use of lesser allies to create buffers or push choke points before seizing the glory for themselves. The funniest part of the teamup is that they don't have a healer. They are just a group of DPS/Strikers, which is why they keep getting their buts handed to them after taking a couple of solid hits.
The Spells being broken and disrupted: Bretons, in universe and in game, have Spell Resistance. The lore explaination is that their prolonged exposure to elven magic during their enslavement triggered the generation of Spell resistance amongst half breeds who would later become Bretons. Introducing his own body into a spell prematurely could be the reason why the spell violently detonated and left him unharmed.
A side note: This Nord is one of a handful that wear horned helmets, most don't. It's just one of those happy little coincidences.

Here are some notes, just from my experience with the Elder Scrolls:
I believe the rogue is a Breton. The mage is probably a High Elf, and the barbarian is a Nord. The rogues in ES aren't necessarily meant for direct combat, more stealth. Barbarians would be more direct, and mages would be somewhat ranged. The armor in ES is highly stylized, but some is functional.
Bretons already have a magical resistance, and the the Ascendant Lord is like, super magical, I'm not sure about all the details, but he's kinda immortal I think. That explains how he survived the stab, and the fall.
In terms of weaponry, people tend to misunderstand the weight of weapons and armor because in ES, weapons and armor are much heavier than they'd be irl. The knight's sword would likely weigh around 17-26lbs in the game setting, which is very unrealistic. The Knight's armor would be 64-94lbs total. (Numbers taken from Oblivion and Skyrim for the Steel Claymore and Steel Greatsword, and for Steel Armor, which is the closest I could get to his armor and weapon)

What if the armor is actually built around his superhuman strength? What if it's actually a sandwiched honeycomb structure with the plates riveted together in order to provide a crush zone and stress distribution?
Such a structure would be incomprehensibly heavy and seem visually weak on the outer layer, but it would solve the last vulnerability that exists in full plate: debilitation from impact deformation.
In a lot of settings enchantment is limited to individual pieces. Having more pieces could allow different types and distributions of enhancement, similar to the composite armors of today.
This also explains the apparent "double bracers". The small even mass of a bracer across your forearm for the sake of deflection can be overcome with strength enough that the mass itself is more likely to help your momentum than hurt it.
Having even more mass on your promixal forearm requires more strength to move with the same swiftness, but it won't change the way you move. Adding the same extra mass at the distal forearm and wrist will drastically alter the mechanics of your movements. The armor's center of balance in now more impactful than your own, so it has to match yours perfectly.
No explanation for the super sized pauldrons though, I they're just neat looking. Also the rondels look almost like they're upside down, but it occurs to me that upside down pentagons tend to be disliked in western cultures.

If you ask man, well undoubtedly the armor being so segmented constantly is like 99% for Style, one thing to consider is that in the Elder Scrolls Universe, enchanting is something that can be done but very often each item has its own limit to how much magical power it can withstand so theoretically if you wanted to heavily enchant your armor, rather than having giant pieces of armor that perhaps would have as much lower maximum enchantment limit, you do with numerous segmented plates with each one being enchanted with either protection enchantments or warding enchantments and so on. Beyond that that's also likely at least for the male characters why they're not wearing too much actual metal and it's mostly just leather since I wouldn't be surprised if the leather is Enchanted to be as strong as at least iron if not steel while maintaining the lightweight nature and the flexibility of the leather. Imagine Metals only used for areas that genuinely would be good to have a little bit of extra durability at the cost of a bit more weight like shoulders so that way if someone were to bring a heavy weapon down on top of you, they'd give you a better chance to survive it and I wouldn't be surprised with the Nord for example if he doesn't have some metal plates underneath the chest area of all the leather. I mean to be fair also when people are strong enough with normal weapons that aren't even Enchanted in this world to slaughter dragons and Giants, I'd say it's a very fair point to use the extra strength also to have Beyond ridiculously thick armor with so many extra segmented plates of Enchanted metal in order to try that make sure you have some extra level of protection especially against Magic

30:00 the thing to consider is that enchantments are very variable with there is also improved carry weight enchantments in Skyrim for example which very easily could be seen as making your armor lighter or drastically improving your speed and strength and never mind again that even with unenchanted gear, a powerful warrior in this world without magic could take down a dragon with an iron sword... like at a base level we could assume these people are probably on a base physical level like at least 10 or so times stronger than even the stronger people in our world and on top of that, why they wouldn't be using ranged weapons or magic especially would likely be because right now they assume that he is a Breton and britons are not only very magically resistant an able to even absorb some amount of magic but again, magical Ward enchantments and armor fortification enchantment exist So based Magic on its own needs to either be from a very ridiculously powerful mage or may as well just be a parlor trick.

      @R_o_o_k_i_n_g_t_o_n Год назад

31:10 I'll just reiterate that again this is a world where people out of Base physical level are Beyond much stronger than people in our world and enchantments are a thing that changes very much so how armor would be created if you want to actually factor-in the best way to protect yourself from physical and magical attacks especially since I'd wager that his breastplate in the area that he was stabbed was actually Beyond much sicker than any armor would have in reality and it looks like he was stabbed through the area where there wasn't a segment which makes sense when you consider the fact that Nords are absolute Monsters of strength and I'm damn near certain that sword would have enchantments to improve its deadliness and its durability meaning putting in the hands of someone who could probably easily kill a fucking elephant with an iron Dagger by managing to stab so deeply into its brain that it dies instantly, I'm fairly certain he'd be able to Ram that heavy ass sword through his chest which just goes to show how even this amount of armor ultimately can be overcome meaning in this world if you really want to actually protect yourself you really have to go all in and have not just the physical strength to wield it but either the magical strength or the magical know how to make the correct enchantments

      @R_o_o_k_i_n_g_t_o_n Год назад

56:43 this is where I think you got to consider the strengths and the magic / reality of the world you're looking at because when you're writing a story, if all of your characters have superhuman strength and things like magical wards are the easiest thing people who are magically inclined should be able to do and especially those who are very skilled at least in terms of Raw magical power should be able to make Beyond strong hence why the only real reason she even seemed to go for that magic glass for example was seemingly to try to blast him out just off the roof but all the way off the cliff that it seemed there was past the ground below and especially since point-blank magic was about the only hope to get it on him and a time where he wouldn't be able to brace for it both physically and magically and again, no words are basically super Danes if they were given the same super soldier serum as Captain America at a wound like that while it would be very dangerous and could be fatal in this world, healing potions and especially very powerful healing potions and healing magic exist so as long as there isn't a curse or Affliction that preventing any healing, there really shouldn't be any issues in dealing with a wound like that it's so long as you don't die before you can find yourself help and I wouldn't be surprised if you can use basic healing Magic

@@skebaba918 things can get pretty ridiculous with enchantments because the very nature of enchantments isn't in the same boat as normal Magic because Normal magic is done via taking in Magicka and then using your will to convert that Magica into an effect in the real world with this is completely separate from Enchantment Where one takes a soul gem with the only legal types of souls you can put in these gems are what are considered whitesell's or another words The Souls of animals with the greater the power of the animal Soul, the greater the size of the Soul Gem you need which is why is Azura's star is so coveted because it can hold literally any size soul with also the Amulet of Kings from Oblivion is also a Soul Gem and in fact is the most powerful soul gem in all of existence. Back on topic, essentially you take this Soldier and you offer it to a group known only as the ideal Masters who are thought to be necromancers who managed to create their own plane of Oblivion and essentially become minor deities however their realm and their power is 100% based around having Souls constantly put into their Realm to get to use the power of their souls so this is how they get those Soul since by having enchanters offer them those souls and then based on the enchanter skill, understanding, and Desire with the deal the ideal Masters will then imbue the piece of equipment with the appropriate amount of magical power in essentially a FMA style Equivalent Exchange.

Wowza that's gotta be embarassing at 20:35-ish through 20:50, the rivetted bit in particular since the rivets in question are on a separate piece around the collar called a Gorget, which sits on top of the chest piece and is specifically for protecting the neck from glancing blows, and to make it harder for any blows to connect there... Additionally, blacksmith forged rivets are not just going to fail like he's portraying in his comments there, like what? Lol... Dude literally claims to have fought in Brigandine yet says rivets will just immediately fail... That entire armor is held together by forged rivets. Forged rivets if done correctly were literally the basis of connections on most types of armor for HUNDREDS of years. From plate, to Brig, to chain. They are by no means a negative point in the armor. Also no idea what he's smoking claiming the nameless knight's chest piece is segmented right down the middle, because it's not... It's one solid piece, on the front and back, and is joined at the sides.
