Rose died at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 30, 2024, at the age of 83 from heart disease. He had attended an autograph event in Franklin, Tennessee, the day prior. His death was confirmed by the county medical examiner’s office, which did not share any additional details.

@@moonlightfishin4113 That was never proven. There are a lot of people that hated Rose because he won and was arrogant about it. He had over 4200 hits, more than anybody else. He had 3 golden glove awards . I surprised they didn’t accuse him of using a corked glove. If a player is suspected to be using a corked bat, the umpires check the bat and toss him out of the game. That never happened to my knowledge. His list of accomplishments as a player is undeniable. He has been kept out of the HOF for over 30 years. Some murders get out in less time.

Shoeless Joe Jackson is not in the Hall Of Fame because of the 1919 Black Sox scandal, so why should Rose be reinstated? And if Rose is reinstated, then people will be clamoring for people like Barry Bonds, Rogers Clemens, Jose Canseco, etc, to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame. All I can say is, keep Pete Rose out of the Hall Of Fame.

I've told this story before, but I had a personal encounter with Rose when I was a kid. I lived in Cincy for a couple of years. My dad took me to some Reds' games when Rose was the manager. One game, we got to the stadium early and I got the chance to meet Rose ... it was amazing! He signed the bill of my Cincy hat and I was so happy. Rose then made a bet with me. He bet me $10 that the Reds would lose by 2 runs that day. I took the bet. I then spent my $10 on a hot dog and a drink during the game. The Reds lost by 4 runs. To my surprise, Rose tracked me down in the parking lot. He demanded that I pay him the $10 from our bet. I didn't have the money, but he grabbed my wallet and checked. When he saw my wallet was empty, he demanded that I give him my shoes to settle the bet. Long story short, I went home that day -- at age 12 -- without my shoes. But I learned a lesson.

I'm not sure if the narrator mispronounced player names because he is too young to have seen or heard Rose on Radio or TV, or because "he" is just AI. And it's true that Rose had some serious ethical issues including income tax evasion (not covered in this video). But Pete Rose shouldn't be solely defined by his faults. .
Often I think the biggest hypocrites are sports writers because their sports coverage is at times also less than honest. Yes I understand that if someone is a beat writer for a bad NBA team no one wants to read 82 times that that bad team didn't play NBA caliber defense. Thus many times the game I read about in the newspapers was quite different than the one I saw the day before, often reporting that a pretty bad NBA team played a lot better than it actually did.
Returning to Rose I'm not against covering his many ethics problems. But I can't stand the "holier than thou" way many sports writers covered them, as if all their own sports coverage was scrupulously accurate. Did Pete Rose do some seriously ethically wrong things? Sure he did. But he shouldn't be solely judged by things he did wrong. Rest in peace Pete Rose!

He lived in the gamble city. Why would he not. I don’t see what’s the issue. It’s not like he was throwing games to lose so he could win. Anyhoot PETE ROSE WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE PLAYER. I am so disappointed with MLB for their behavior toward him. HE WAS THE BESTEST PLAYER EVER! PRAYERS TO HIS FAMILY HIS CLOSE FRIENDS & ME.. RISE IN PARADISE MR ROSE.
