TURBO E46 IS ALIVE (Again) | M54B25 Turbo Drift Car

- Swapped in a 2.5 liter M54B25 (Thanks Micah Diaz) after blowing up my 3.0 M54B30, because that was what was available, and it was significantly cheaper than sourcing another 3.0. After more than a year stuck in the garage (again), and months of trying to fix idling issues, the car was finally in a position to be taken back out on the streets!
No DIY tuning for me this time (Learning was nice, but it's time to leverage the wisdom of the pros), so I went with Daniel over at Chaos Calibrations to get me situated. Oh, and this time, I'm bumping up the boost to 10psi from 7!
This should make for one FUN drift car at a still reasonable power level!

Obnoxious exhaust, loud ass flutter, fire looking car overall there is nothing to change its completely perfect! Glad you got it almost fully ironed out cant wait to see you rip it again man 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Thanks, likewise!
Kudos to Daniel@chaos the dude is a wizard with these engines.
He's definitely the man!
Great to see you back, the car sounds amazing!
Thanks!
Hell yah! I missed this car. It was partially inspiration for my own turbo 325ci. The build series helped alot
Glad my videos help you out!
So awesome dude, I had a turbo kit for my e46 and I sold it for way less than I got it and I regret it. It was hard finding info on a e46 turbo build that was concise and made sense lol. Your build is coming along nice!
Thanks! And it's never too late to get another kit lol
So glad to see your back
Always good to be back!
yo carl whats up, good to see you got the car running, hope to see more from ya soon 👍
love to see you’re back brotha
Always good to be back!
Just inspired me to finish up my b25 build , keep up the great content 👍
Thanks! Good luck with the build!
Thanks bro good to see u again
Good to be "back"!
I’ve got a e46 with a m54b25 and I’ve been wanting to go top mount for about a year now but still haven’t committed, after watching this I think I may go bottom mount and send it! Post agin soon man!
Do it, and hopefully soon!
Glad you are back! I had the same problem with my M54 idling funky. That was until I did the m50 intake manifold swap and installed rev match stage 4 tune which deletes icv and idles at 900 no problems since. I also run the same intake boot but instead of to icv, I did a catch can from the VC and capped off the Manifold.
I might try raising the idle RPM to see if that helps. Good to be back!
@@nuisance_carl Are you still running a 330 maf on the aluminum cai? I believe the 2.5 mafs are different could cause it to run rich maybe?
@@viettran3658 I’m actually running a PMAS maf so it should work regardless of 2.5 or 3.0 liter
@@nuisance_carlhello good time of day, can you tell me how to connect the connector of the maf 3.0l 3 pin pmas 6 pin please tell me how it connects?
A lot of respect for you, man. just watched a few videos, and all i can say is your legend
Would you help me if i run in any problems along the way with any advice?
mine is stock and it revs like that too its crazzyy
Keep it up 👍
Thanks!
He’s back!
In the flesh!
Nice video good to see you back! was afraid you was done with youtube.
Thanks! I think I'll be around for a while lol
Nice again :D
Thanks again!
you should do projector retrofit super easy on the e46
Yooo thats awesome to see to dude, can’t wait to some drifting! What brake setup do you have? What did you replace the brake booster with after the turbo conversion?
Thanks! Brakes are all stock, including the booster.
@@nuisance_carl sweeet, Didn’t think stock booster would hold up but looks to be working beautifully
Sounds and looks sweet, do you have a parts list for the b25? Looking into building my b25
I don't have a fully up to date one, but this is pretty close. Couple minor changes like no more scavenge pump, and running a 12an drain this time around.

Man its been awhile, i forgot what turbo you put into this engine. Still that ebay turbo? That flutter sounds gooood
Yup still on the same maxpeedingrods turbo 👍🏽
I’d love to see some outside the car footage / mostly to hear it maybe do a 1-2 pull and doughnuts ?
I did doughnuts in this video. Exact same setup but with a 3.0

Do you have ready-made firmware uploaded immediately and then configured?
could you help me out i have m54b25 turbo but cant figure the tune out
hello good time of day, can you tell me how to connect the connector of the maf 3.0l 3 pin pmas 6 pin please tell me how it connects?

Welcome back man! At what rpm does the boost go over 0.5 bar?
Thanks! I think it's hitting 0.5 bar around the 4k rpm mark.
hey man. Nice to see you.
Waiting for your blogs on D2 or maybe videos (about 190 with turbo or without) :)
@@alexman9062 Hope to write something in the near future :)
Hello brother, I connected 6 wires and started it up, but the car is running like a blast of injectors while the original one is from the M54, is it because of the injectors or is there something to do with the maf? Tell me please
DO NOT run the car with a map that uses OEM maf. You need to get a base map suitable for your setup. Talk with your tuner.
What software do you use for remapping?
If I were doing it myself, tunerpro for changes, and MS4X flasher for uploading maps. Now, I just use Chaos Calibration's software to upload maps.
I’ve been having the same issues for months now
Damn...
I did a full rebuild on my m54 b30.
forged rods, forged pistons 10,5 to 1 compression, m12 head studs, m50 manifold, upgraded oil pump, upgrade bearings,
Supertech valve springs, engine cleaned surfaced acid bath, valve seats cut, port the intake and exhaust.
trying to get 600 bhp with this engine. Do you think it can reliably handle that?
No motor will last without a good tuner. Get a a tune from a reputable tuner and you'll be golden.
Hey man im rather interested in doing a similar project. Which rods and pistons did you go with?
@@Epikfl0 I went with mahle motorsports pistons and molnar rods
can you go over the oil cooler please
Check this video out. The cooler itself is a Tru-Cool M7B 8x11, using a PMC adapter and your standard AN fittings ruclips.net/video/vaVsAgxRWC0/видео.html
hello good afternoon friend please give me the full firmware file I have the same configuration as yours I have the same car m54b30 Mt to check I need a full dump flash 512 kb
I don't understand what did you change on the car?
Blew the 3.0 December 2021. Lost motivation to film, but dropped in a 2.5 and had issues early on getting it drivable
@@nuisance_carl oh yes but I'm talking in this video it was just the silicone tube that made it run well because the original ones had holes?
@@imestia7911 Oh lol. No I was stubborn and wanted the car to run with an ICV delete. That's how my B30 was setup, but this time around I was having issues for a long time so finally decided to toss in an ICV.
It may sounds wierd, but I think 2.5 is the better engine, becouse of its shorter piston move, it is more rev friendly engine.
True, but I think the head might also have some limitations. Hell I’d love to rev this thing higher lol
@@nuisance_carl the intake camshaft is different compared to 3.0 but other than that its the same
@@patrykkowalski6 Could've sworn there were some other limitations, maybe valvetrain related. Now when I say rev higher, I'm talking like more than 7k lol (spoiled Honda boy in me).
@@nuisance_carl yeah the oil pump nut could vibrate itself loose but its more common problem on the 3.0 since the engine has bigger stroke
@@patrykkowalski6 I have that addressed. I could've sworn it was due to the lifters, but I'm talking out of my ass at this point lol
kuya karl
MY GUY
I wonder if I paid you to build me a drift car would you do it?
I don't think you can afford me lol
Same turbo etc as in 3.0?
Yup, exact same setup, except I'm now running a 12an oil drain off the turbo (no scavenge pump anymore).
@@nuisance_carl running the 12an drain helped that much? good to know.
@@nuisance_carl now that the car actually dirves i can ask you this. do you regret not swapping n/a v8 which would make same power? im currently on the fence between going turbo with my stock motor or swapping m113 from mercedes 5.0 (motor is stupid cheap and ive seen people make them run on stock ecu etc so it would probably bulletproof)
@@loganmcvey8025 12an definitely helps, but more importantly, the bung going to the oil pan has to be PARALLEL or pointed up towards the turbo. Most return bungs, including my old setup, would point down which is no good for oil flow. Big lesson learned.
@@patrykkowalski6 Never will regret it. I'm biased towards turbo setups because that's just what I like (Turbo spool, turbo flutter, etc.) At the 3-350 whp range, N/A V8 setups win for simplicity and reliability in my opinion.
why not b30?
Found this B25 for stupid cheap. I'm not chasing big power so might as well save a couple hundred dollars.
@@nuisance_carl and this motor has like 50K miles
@@JasnBn HAHA totally forgot about that. Yea low mileage too.
