*fine, you’ve convinced me*
Haha, your arm is easily twisted!
The noises are awesome especially the turbo!
The builds are the ones I love. I can sit and watch in depth high quality builds but these low budget but correct builds are what I live for.
This is going to give alot of hope and inspiration to the M4X gang gang
Jordan making it look ez
This is bloody awesome! Love these budget style builds man. So much inspiration!
Cheers homie. They’re low key my fave builds too haha. The dyno / drive video is even better vibes than this one 😝
Back to the roots love it!
love a boosted compact sweet vid guys.
This is sick! I've got an m42b18 and this is long overdue haha!
Im glad that you feel better! Covids kicking my ass at the moment, great video by the way!😃
Oh bro, I hope you’re all good! Wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Rest up, drink heaps of hydralite. Cheers my dude
Nice build and great info! I am working on mine E36, but still on restoration mode more than modifying 😅
Thanks! Awesome, get it done then turbo 😝
I'm doing the same with a m50 in an e30 stock ecu, AU in tech injectors :) love seeing this!
Hell yes bro you love to see it haha. Suss these injectors we’ve used as they’ll likely be perfect for you! Link in the description
Awesome video and work man 👏👏👏
Thank you my friend!
picked up a 318i not too long ago and got a misfire and i haven’t touched it since. this is the motivation i needed
Oooft get it fixed and turbo that sucker bro!
Sick work, I've seen all the how to turbo your bmw and felt inspired and I'm doing the same thing now. At least im gonna try. Did you guys leave the oil restrictor instaled on the turbo oil feed inlet? thanks for the help.
Love what you did with the car! If I may ask, how did you put the adjustable fuel pressure regulator? My 316i turbo project runs lean I think, it runs with the stock fuel pressure regulator.
Well this couldn’t have been timed better for me as I’m currently doing a turbo build on my m43 e46 right now!
Cheers for always going in depth with the videos Mike and explaining it!!!
Hell yeah bro that’s awesome! I figure if I can help at least one person, I’m happy 😁
@@itsmikelake it’s certainly gonna come in handy for 🙂, how ever I’ll be running an ecu I’ve found online from the UK should be interesting to see how good the soft wear is 😅
@@zurtd6514 how did you get injectors to fit ford ones dont fit into manifold ports
@@offshore3460did you ever find an answer
I wanna supercharge my m43b18 e36, stututu all the way, but the e36 wants a supercharger
Dam thats a great video bro, is there anything you can delete or get rid off it from the engine bay? Like the brake booster or anything to make more room? Hope to see a video talking about that, would be more helpful for anyone want to do the bmw, for me I haven't bought mine yet but I'm planning to do it lol 😆
Fellow hellrot compact owner :) love to see it
This is sick!
Thanks bro!
I'm keen to see the dyno results. Then I may have to find me a m43 to replace my dead m44 😉
I just watched both parts and I had to Subscribe 😃. Very impressed with the modifications and the rich content in these videos ,great job 👏.
I have a E46 318ci N42 and I want to put a turbo in .
So,your ECU is stock but did you do any modifications, changed anything ,remap ?
n42 is pretty junk to turbo... (I searched for mine and all the people that did it were either with a standalone or with full of strange mods)
love it , gonna buy my bmw next year and was thinking about wich one , seeing that i can do cheaper 318 and after that put turbo on it makes me happy :)
do u have any idea what turbo can i use for my m43 1.9L
@@dawoodmohammed2406 sorry man ,not really , i plan to dive into bmw after new year.
Hey dude.. hope your well..
finally doing the boosting!! :p
quick questions...
ICV pipes? just block it up?
vac for carbon canister block?
vac for the duel length intake block?
and how many clicks did you give the AFM ? :p
really looking forward to getting it finished now lol
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ive been loooking for a proper m43 build
I got your back bro 👊🏻💥
First off, great job. love it! Seondly, get a wideband!! :P
Haha thanks! You’ll see in part 2, we took it to the dyno with a wideband to tune it 😇😈
I living in France an i have this project on a M43B19 105hp , i want introduce a little turbo 0.3 or 0.5bar to gain couple and maybe 30 50 HP on this engine without forge lower motor gearbox ect u think its possible ? And if yes u think possible to place differently an escape too the hole in the hood ? , Really good job on this motor i love that sound ! I love m'y atmo buuut yeah sound good !
Could you elaborate more into the exhaust manifold you used? I’m a bit confused!
Dyno video drops on Wednesday & the results are insane! I’m so fricken impressed with this car haha
waiting for result. i'm planning to boost my "fragile" N42 for the laugh. how much boost it could take on stock internals do you think? (going to use Eaton M90 instead of turbo)

@@n.shiina8798 10psi is always a good level of boost as long as you’ve got the fuel mods to accommodate 😁
gotta remap the DME for sure. i used to have billet internals N42 but thing now got inspection hole after the oil pump failed 🤣. considering to boost the stock engine in the future for some fun 😉. maybe upgrade to custom forged internals too for higher boost
Can't wait for the Matsuri, going camping for the 2 days. Gonna be sick
Gonna be so damn fun!
Gidday gaweez :) wicked stuff. New here and to bmw. Im wondering what parts can i take from m52b28 to increase performance on my m43b18 n/a? If there is anything. Since hearing you used the m50 fuel injectors in. From n.z here sedan auto aswell Both cars are.
Love the windscreen 😂
That dose is amazing haha. So geed for matsuri!
Haha bro, cannot believe this car worked out so well hey. Matsuri is gonna be a fricken blast!
Question, how were the fuel lines routed? I have an m42 and i assume the fuel setup is similar, just wondering where each line goes and how it goes lol
I've done something way better for my home build turbo M50. Kept the stock fuel pressure regulator and stock fuel rail, but i fabricated a secondary fuel rail with 3 440 injectors, controlling them through ecumaster det3. That piggy back has a map sensor and injectors start spraying fuel only after atmospheric pressure. Installed the secondary fuel rail right before the throttle body. Its way more safe and easy to tune. I have 12,5 - 13 AFR during wot at 1,5 bar with a Garrett t25.
This is good
the fuel rail dripping at 12:59 as he explains how well it all works :))
Parts list what did u need in terms of ecu injectors ?
I need some manual trans sent to nz! Trying to get my e36 track car moving the auto is so bad 😅😅
Notification gang!!! I want one
The turbo you linked is oil and Water cooled did u look up to coolent ?
what fuel pump did you use
hey bro love the vids when you put the fg injectors did u also max them out or about half?
Thanks! Definitely didn’t max them out, plenty of headroom left in them!
I just picked up an e36 with m44b19. Thinking about turnoing it in the future. Do you guys have some experience with that and any tips/suggestions?
Is a new radiator necessary or does the intercooler do a good enough job at keeping the temps down?
I dream of doing this to my M44 318is. But I cant understand how the stock ecu will work with it. Wont it bug under positive pressure?
Hey what have you changed with the afm? Spring wise thanks
I fix one write now u can tell me about the program how u can control the fuel have storm g4?
Sad that i can't show my mehanic with his e36 318i m43b18 with 320kw from a 1.8.L. dude had 8x evo injectors on that thing. Fuel e85. Was an awesome project. Still wheel spins in 4th gear with 225/40 tires 😅 did get a lot of wins in rally but when the engine died it's now a m50b25 made to a 3.0L with a turbo from volvo if im not wrong.
320kw is HUGE power! Love that
@@itsmikelake 4cylinder with 8 injectors 😅 did last like 2 years in races.
how much money to do this? did you recomend?
There's no Injectors link please help?
Does this work for 318is?
finally someone
Just wait till you see the dyno results 😝
Yeeeew This is mad 🤙
Cheers Rhys!
Is the build still alive?
Then what is the side effects after doing it?
the link of the injectors isnt avaliabe anymore, which ones besides the ones you used do you recommand
No BOV?
do you have some how do it manual
or video with whole instalatio of turbo in this engine? And its safe for NA M43b16 engine like pistons and rods?
Great Job , Q how did you make your turbo manifold any videos ?
Jordan’s video will be out soon and will show how it was made
Hey, this is the first video I've watched from Mike, so not idea who Jorden is.
Do you have any links please
Bro, my temp guage is not working. But i replaced every sensor and wirings were done but still the same. And the fan only kicks in when the ac is on. If the ac is off, then i have no fan. Any ideas?
I’m looking into getting an E46 318i, I can get a 6 cylinder but insurance says otherwise atm in UK 🥲 will be following this build, you got yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks bro! Honestly, the little m43 has surprised the heck out of us. I didn’t think it would make the power it did, nor feel as fast as it does!
@@itsmikelake Very interested to see the Dyno results next week!
Its the same engine as an e46 right? So in my case i have an e46 318i, should be all same?
ive got my e30 m40 would love to do this always been my dream to do it on it but just need help with doing it
You got this bro. Buy a welder and go nuts! Nothing wrong with learning new skills 👊🏻💥
@@itsmikelake cheers bro, quick question what’s the difference with a turbo build like this compared to your friends red e30
I have a bmw e46 316i 2005 it has 90000 on the clock it’s paint has aged very wel can I do this on my car? If i can I have to do it because it lacks a little power now 😁
What’s the guys channel called who built it
Does anyone know if I could do this with a m54b22?
Shit nvm my first comment lol, was scared to drill my block so I fuck with the sump idea! gonna turbo my m43 in the next few weeks, I’ll post up the videos up on my channel. Thanks for the 4pot e36 content homie
Did you ever end up doing it?
Does anbody know if i canuse exhaust maifold from e36 318tds? I read at one forum (witch cant find any more) that is posible becouse its the same block.
Half of the bolt holes don't line up sadly. I tried
This is great. Did you guys run into any issues with needing a blow off valve? Or is it better to avoid due to the car using a MAF sensor?
Blow off valves aren’t needed. They just protect the turbo over a long period of time. We prefer the sound of compressor surge haha
Cheers man, thanks appreciate the response. Yeah same, nothing beats that sound.
I might have missed it in the video but did you guys put a thicker head gasket in? I'm about to jump into doing this to my M44 and although my 318ti is a bit of a beater, I don't have a backup engine so I would like it to be at least a bit reliable. Thinking of going thicker head gasket and ARP head studs.
Also just wanted to clarify - I wouldn't need a rising rate regulator if I get a custom ECU tune? @@itsmikelake
CV?
We got the injectors you recommended but they are way to small to fit the injector ports in manifold did you have to make adaptors or use a new bigger oring to fit the 17mm port holes
Some m43 have weird asf injector ports. Ours didn’t. Bolted straight up. Stupid bmw haha
I've been looking for a video like this since I started restoring and planning a turbo for my m42, question though the manifold I am looking to buy has an external wastegate, what kind of turbo would be similar to the gt28 but use an external or would there be a way around it?
Weld up the external gate port and you’re good to use an internally gated turbo 😄
Sick build bro I have a m44b19 I’m wanting to turbo. Will everything in the description work on mine and also what do I do about mapping as the 318is in the uk came as obd1 so I can’t find anywhere to map it.
You could always just copy our method instead of mapping! Alternatively you could buy a kdfi plug in ecu which are cheap and awesome!
Are the injectors a straight swap
How you checked that the mixture is good so you don’t damage the engine ? I have an m42 and I am looking to boost it on budget
Watch the part 2 video my dude 😁
This is awesome.
I have m43b19 can i do this with the automatic gear box?
Sure can! 😁
I think it has 118 hp, how much hp do you think its gonna be?
Looks like a great build... but welding the fuel rail whilst it's still on the car seems a bit too dangerous. Stay safe guys and have fun !
You’re right, that was dodgy as hell haha. Thanks bro!
@@itsmikelake You're welcome bro ! - Great project ! - Best wishes from the UK 👍👍👍
Update how has she been running
Drop link
Did you guys tightened up the spring inside the air flow meter?
Yep! Until it idles nicely
Awesome work guys!
I got a 318i e46 with 118 HP M43B19. I’m looking for some boost as the car is a bit slow even for daily driving. I was looking for somwthing about 150-60 HP, so does turboing that a waste for such a low increase? Or it’s best to do a swap in my case?
Turbo always!
Swaps are more complicated and expensive by the looks of it, especially here in Australia.
@@TimSlee1 What a about car swap? 😂
My 318 blow up and sold for a 320ci e46 that blow up too. But this time i ended to fix that. This one got 150hp and it’s good for daily. In italy more hp you got, more taxes u pay every year…
A car swap? Sure, I could pay like 10k more for something slightly more powerful but learning how to turbo/engine-swap would literally be cheaper. Honestly i'm jealous of British people who get these cars so cheap that they whine about the insurance and registration costing more than the car itself. Talk about suffering from success.@@LuckyDayNaples
Very nice work. What's the tune you did on the air/fuel sensor.
Tightened the spring a little
@@itsmikelake how did you do it? can you make a vid explain it?
@@paneliro The next video in this series explains it? Haha
hi dear Mike, please, can I know how many turbo bars you used (taking into account that the car has the internals of the standard engine, and the high compression ratio) in fact, that scares me a bit, my engine has 150,000km it should be a good foundation, i have the turbo from my s13, i want to use it, it will perform well
Stock motor. 10psi. Still running great today after an absolute thrashing
I think still worth a 2.5 or 2.8 NA inside
i have hard dudes about what to do in my compact e36
I'd prefer turbo m43 over NA 2.5 or 2.8 any day!
You didnt change the headgasket from stock to a slightly bigger one?
No need. These motors already have a low compression ratio as is
This fuckin cool. You reckon this kinda crude set-up would be as effective on a 325/328/330?
Cheers! Yes we’ve done similar on a 6cyl but it’s not quite as good as the computers are newer / more sophisticated. Luckily the 325/328/330 stock ecu is tunable 😇
What rear housing would you guys go with the T28/?? Cheers
Any sr20det t25 will be perfect. Or something of the equivelent size
hey man, wanted to put the sc14 on my BMW 325, just need the HYDE MOTOR WORKS V2 plate right?
Yep! Should be sweet with that
Where do you get the oil from for the turbo? Do you have to drill the block? Sorry for the newbie question
Tee off the oil pressure switch 😇
May I know how many HP it’s can get? Amazing!
Thanks! All of the info is in the build series 😁
Hey guys nice car, is the Engine Full stock with upgraded Clutch?
Yes completely stock, and still going strong today!
Might have to throw a turbski on the misses compact now
Haha DO IT!
So awesome man! Just wanted ask, Would it be better to turbo the 4cyl or just engine swap a 6cyl into it?? Which one would be cheaper/easier?
Great question! In this case id say 100% the turbo 4cyl is heaps better than the 6cyl swap. But we have the ability to weld / fab and of course we had access to the dyno. This setup cost about $800-$1000 to build. The power & noises it makes are well worth it
all in all dont😂 you’ll make the same power for more than a 6cyl swap would cost
@@MIvedYT an m50b25 or m52b28 engine cost about 1000-1200eur. Also need all the wires.
@@djnazgra where do you live? you can find 2L engine for 300-600€ in germany
@@djnazgra 2.5 like 800
i have a m44b19 in a 318ti do you think all of what you have done here would apply to my same engine?
Yep sure would! Highly recommend a kdfi stand-alone plug and play ecu
is the cylinder head stock including pistons?
Yep completely stock motor 😁
Can I put turbo in my e36 318i? It only has 115hp and the engine is in good shape and i dont want to swap but can I add more power?
Actualy can someone please explain to me how to add power without risk of damage. Im not asking for much just above 150hp.
This series explains exactly how to do what you’ve asked. This car is still running well today and he drives the absolute hell out of it!
Will the MAF senson get good reading when it's under pressure, or would it be a good idea to relocate the MAF before the turbo?
It’s literally perfect where it is. They’re a very basic mass airflow unit. They have a vane in them that’s just open or closed based on airflow. It works perfectly inline 🤙🏻
How are those maf tuned?
is the air flow sensor safe?
Yep, perfectly safe inline
Does this car have a knock sensor?
Nope
How were you turning the boost up on the fly? Planning on running very similar setup on m42
Just a simple boost tee 😁
@@itsmikelake cool thanks, did he delete the video on the full video of the build?
I heard those m43 engines are unkillable but what about with a turbo ?
Still bulletproof, as long as you don't overdo it. Head gaskets go wrong above 0.6bars of boost, if you use the stock headbolts. With ARP's you can run up to 1 bar with no Problems.
This is fucking sick! I wanna see this budget style turbo build on an m5x engine
