Just a note: it’s still only day one for me with this controller but I noticed the whole d-pad pushes down and can activate all the directions simultaneously? I’ll keep testing but I can see where this might be bothersome for certain games or certain characters

You should try and get your hands on 8bitdo's Super Famicom styled pro controllers. I don't know why, but in my experience, the purple American SNES ones have heaps of accidental diagonals, but the Japanese styled ones don't, so I would say get the SF30 pro or SF30 pro+, trust me, it's all of the joy with none of the jank

    You should try the 8BitDo SN30 Pro+. It’s basically a full-on Pro Controller replacement with an SNES-style D-Pad.

did you get your m30 ? could you please tell me how the d-pad feels like ? Would appreciate to know which d-pad has better accuracy, either the sn30, pro 2 or m30... I was thinking about this model as well for Sonic-like games, even Mania but I have had mostly bad experiences with 10 or less chinese controllers because specifically the d-pad has one problem or another. Either it's too stiff, have to press harder in order to get in-game response, OR "ghost input" when pressing down or right and so then I get diagonal input in-game.
      Thanks for sharing bud.

@@naam4769the dpad is floating so that would be a thing to get used to, but overall it would be a fine controller. The power a fightpad also has a floating dpad and is way cheaper (the switch edition is) and if you reall want a traditional one the hori fightpad is the way to go.
Overall if it calls itself a fightapd for fighting games then it is going to have a good dpad

I've been using 8bitdo's GBros adaptor and an official controller from the SNES Mini, and it works like a dream for Mario Maker and Street Fighter. I'm interested in the M30 too, but I'd likely only use it for games I associated with the Mega Drive and Saturn. I never had the same preference for that d-pad over the NES and SNES one that many do, but I did grow up with the Mega Drive and I think it might be nice to play games like Sonic Mania with that controller.

I've been using the SN and G Classic editions of the SN30 Pro + with Mortal Kombat 11 and the new Samurai Shodown. If you're going to play fighting games, I'd suggest the G Classic edition, its d-pad is less hard on your thumb, it actually feels kind of slippery. Certain characters in Mortal Kombat 11 have combo strings that require you to slide your thumb rapidly from one button to another (ex: Liu Kang's X, Y, X, Y), if you just press them regularly, the string isn't going to come out, it's definitely much easier to do on the G Classic because X and Y are convex.
I did struggle with both d-pads when trying to perform super special moves consistently in the new Samurai Shodown, you have to be extremely precise with the inputs ( ➡️↘️⬇️↙️⬅️➡️ B + A) . The M30 still has the best d-pad and is the controller I'd recommend if you want to play fighters that have a lot of circle motion inputs like Samurai Shodown, The King Of Fighters and Guilty Gear.

M30 is the best controller DPAD I have ever used. A close second is the GAMEBOY STYLE VERSION of the SN30 Pro+ (and probably the SN30 Pro 2 GameBoy Edition)
The GameBoy had a really good dpad so naturally the GameBoy version of the 8BITDO controllers have great pads. I am typically a fan of nintendo style dpads because I find that the M30 style dpads are usually not the best but when they do it right it’s super good.
    Best DPAD list
    1. GameBoy Advace SP
    2. M30
    >
    >
    3. SN30 Pro+ GameBoy Edition
    4. Sega Genesis
    5. Super NES / N64
    6. Original NES
You can’t go wrong with any of these DPADS!

I looked up whether there was a more Dualshock-like controller for the Switch after posting my comment on your previous vid, and found out about the 8-Bit Do controllers. I was actually going to suggest the one that's more SNES-like as it also comes with two analog sticks laid out in a Dualschock-like manner. Now I think I'll suggest that by virtue of it having more standard face buttons. As far as I know it contains the same D-Pad, just the button layout will be different.

It's a really good pad. It really shines in Tekken especially. The only down side is that the pad is a bit noisy but that can be fixed by loosening the screws in the dpad but that's optional.

Awesome! I always love those controller reviews videos
You could try the snes 8bitdo controller! that could help since the layout of the face buttons are more what you're used to
though i dont know if the d-pad there is as good as the one you got there
Another one I've seen being recommended and that I ordered because I wanna try too is the Hori Pokken Pad! (the ones for wii u and for the the switch are basically the exact same)
In the wii u it only worked with pokken, but on the switch it works with every game that doesnt need sticks or motion controls. I'm getting one because I heard the D-Pad is really good.
It's wired though! I dunno, you could like it, and it's pretty cheap, like 20 bucks

Yeah I’ll probably try the SNES ones too :) wasn’t convinced I’d like the dpad on the SNES ones but I’ve come this far, may as well try a few more!

Noooooo, this controler felt GREAT but after a couple days the dpad became kinda sticky (didnt come even close to any liquid). The kind of stickyness that you find on cheap controlers... I was very disapointed as 8bitdo controlers are usualy very well made.

Do the C and Z buttons function as the C and Z button in Genesis games? Have you tried it with "Sega Genesis Classics"?

You can map all the mega man x controls in the options menu, also dash with R, no one dashes with face buttons lol

From my experience, 8bitdo dpads are subpar. The SF30 original and the SN30 Pro Gameboy version have pivots, but are not flush against the pcb. Meaning they will favor diagonal directions which is annoying. They aesthetically look like SNES dpads, but do not function the same.
My recommendation: get a Magic NS adapter and use a PS4 controller.

I have the adapter and honestly yeah, I might just stick with the DualShock 4 lol the search continues...

I hated 8bitdo products since I bought NES30 Pro and SN30 Pro only to be thoroughly disappointed of their dpad quality. Precision input was simply impossible with them, I played STG and Tetris games and the gamepads were the worst ones to go with.
I hear people saying M30 dpad is really improved since these ones, but recovering the lost faith would be not so easy.
