It’s a lot easier in summer when the weather is better but living in Scotland means putting on the Gore-Tex and a head torch in winter, what is brilliant is learning to appreciate the small changes as the seasons change.
Genuine question, how do you find the time? I've been going on walks everyday for 2 weeks now and it's great but it does tire me and takes a lot of time out of my day. And i'm not even close to 20k steps a day.

I've hiked both the Pacific Crest and Appalachian Trails across the U.S. and therefore have some experience with walking for long distances. This was a fun video to watch! From my experience, weight loss doesn't kick in until a few weeks in, but once it does it's pretty fast. I lost 60 lbs (starting out obese) on the PCT. That being said, many hikers struggle with too much weight loss and end up malnourished. The weight loss is often more dramatic in men than women. I'll usually intentionally put on a few pounds before doing longer hikes. As for appetite, that usually doesn't kick in until 2-3 weeks in, but when it does it's pretty noticeable and is called "hiker hunger". Pain, blisters, and aches (obviously not injuries) tend to die down after about a month. From my experience, Day 3 is always one of the hardest days. Me along with most longer distance hikers prefer trail runners over boots as the stiffness of boots leads to more blisters and our feet grow in size and flatten out. I'm permanently a half shoe size larger (American shoe sizes).
Because your feet swell a little when you walk you should hike a bit before going to try out shoes. A few km should be enough. Good boots should be pliable enough that after a few shorter hikes the leather adjusts to your for *exactly* and they start fitting you perfectly, and then they'll hold the shape, not let water in (unless you get them soaked/submerged) and should keep your foot adequately warm without excessive sweating.
@@amunak_ Nothing compares to a thru-hike. I walked a ton before doing the PCT and my feet still grew/changed on trail. I regularly walk 10-15 miles around my city, run , and do 30 mile day hikes. A few km would not have been enough to know how my feet were going to change. My feet simply don't swell that quickly, it takes more than a day to see that change. I eventually ended up in different trail runners and a half size bigger. My feet were happy the rest of the trail with zero issues. The few people I met out there wearing boots ended up switching to trail runners.

@Triptowel That sounds about right for any good quality running shoe. You can probably compromise for something a bit cheaper, just understand they probably won't be as comfortable/supportive or last as long. For context, most running shoes are designed for only 500-800km, good trail runners will last a bit longer as they're designed to be more robust e.g. my nike pegasus were in usable condition to about 2500km although that's definitely on the higher end. Honestly, it's worth investing in better shoes if you want to take up any kind of hobby which will take a toll on your feet, the extra 50 quid over a mid range shoe, or 100 over a lower range shoe will pay dividends if those shoes are lasting longer and resulting in fewer injuries. It's also worth deeply investigating which brands or lines of shoes will fit you best as some are better for certain foot shapes, e.g. Hokas aren't usually so good for me whereas Topo is. Also try to get goretex ones as they're waterproof but still breathable
Ehh trail runners are shit if you don't want your feet to get soaked and miserable. You can get good hiking boots, just not _boots_ boots like that. And they also need to fit you well. Can easily walk 30+km a day in good leather hiking boots *and* your feet will stay dry. Though they are also expensive, mine were like $200+.
Properly fitted boots > Trail runners. Properly structured footwear for lengthy walking will always be a better idea than soft, under-structured footwear. Then again if you're looking for fallen arches, bad gait habits, even sorer joint pain in years to come then go ahead.
Hi Jack! I've been going through depression for a few months now, and through the internet and people who I trust and bring me joy such as you I can communicate my feelings. I just wanted to going on RUclips and seeing any video you make, whether play button or fitness makes my day better! You're an inspiration to me and a great, exciting, and seemingly great person. Hope you and Becky have a great rest of the year, and thank you for helping through my rough time!
I know you've probably been told this, but start going to the gym. That and getting enough sleep (which is easier if you're regular at the gym) has helped me loads. And the latest science is really encouraging, all you need is like 20 minutes trice a week, as long as you put in your full effort. You just have to make it a habit. And here are some tips that worked for me: The best gym is the closest gym. The first couple of weeks feels great since you're quickly packing on muscle and getting the psychological benefits. The next couple of months can be a chore. Then it becomes less of a chore. And after a year or so it becomes a full-blown addiction, then you're kinda overflowing with nervous energy if you skip. Don't beat yourself up if you skip a day, try to avoid attaching negative emotions to the habit you're trying to form. If you skip a day, don't go and try and make it up the next day, or lengthen your next gym session, it's no biggie. Try and have a consistent time for your sessions, don't make any plans for the time slots. Don't worry about the numbers on the weights. All you have to do is try as hard as you can, and see some improvement every two weeks or so. Try and put the gym as high as you can on your priority list. Eg. "I'll skip drinking today, tomorrow is gym day." Keep the exercises as simple as you can. Fancy bullshit is really not that beneficial. Most of the fatigue in the gym is not on your muscles, but your nervous system - complicating things just makes your brain work harder and is draining, especially when you're going trough a bout of depression. Find simple dumbbell and barbell weight exercises, and try to hit a nice swath of muscle groups. Focus on technique and range of motion instead of weight. You'l avoid muscle sourness and stiffness. And you won't have to waste your time on fancy stretching. Find a gym on google maps, make a simple exercise routine (chat GPT can actually do a good job with it). And next time you're feeling a little bit more motivated go to the gym. No need to go right away if you're feeling shity, just make sure you're not just putting it off indefinitely. Sorry for the wall of text and I hope I inspired you at least a little bit to consider working out. It really is magical in the way it helps with depression.
definitely try to spend more time in the real world with friends and family if youre depressed though. The internet is a horrible place for us mentally ill people unfortunately.
I've been a viewer for a few years now (around 2018), and it's great to have this chill vibe back to your channel - it's kind of hard to describe but it feels less intense/fast paced? Yet not slow? I love it! I feel more included in the journey and stuff. I'd love to see a day in the life video, or the process of running so many channels, such as the business aspect of it. Love this new style
This is such a fascinating video to watch as someone who is disabled and suffers from chronic fatigue and pain, the ease you can walk for such long periods of time is just superhuman to me genuinely. I can barely walk for more than 10 minutes without suffering hours of pain and complete exhaustion
I average around like 12k steps a day, and bumping that up to 35 sometimes takes a toll, the next day is painful, Kudos to you that you could do that 7 days straight
I love how your taking on fitness content. You've always been like the average person we all are but have that difference we all love when it comes to watching you on RUclips. To see you actively changing your fitness inspires me to workout more. I'm only 17 and have a considerably decent physique and even watching you go out there and put the effort in motivates me to carry on further. Good on you mate!
Oh wow - I struggle with hitting 10K a day even with high intensity exercise. Now I know why - tech job, city dwelling. Your surroundings encourage walking! Freaking gorgeous scenery!!

I loved the cut to just Jack in bed with the stats. Huge props to you for completing this challenge, an average of 35,700 steps a day is insane. Congrats again
Hey, Jack! The professional strength training coach here again! What a lot of people don’t realize is just how much difference that you can visually see in your body in a short amount of time. What you did is what I have people do: DOCUMENT. Otherwise those small changes in time that someone might not normally see will go unnoticed. But when you have a side-by-side, it helps a lot! Along with this you have to take into account things like how much water is your body holding onto, is your activity different, what’s diet looking like, etc etc. All of that can also affect your physical appearance even within a week. It’s the same reason bodybuilders have “Peak Week” for a show in which their regimen will change that week going onto stage.
Listening to music while walking is uplifting and gives me energy when I'm walking. Also try some shoes with a wide toe base like Altra. They're my favorite.
I am 14 and weigh 94 kg and this gave me hope on loosing weigh! its just i still dont hvae the motivation on starting but thank you jack for goving me hope!

Bravo!! Know though that no smart watch gives you a completely accurate reading of steps! It tends to overcount. But wow that's very time consuming.....
love the new content jack. you have walked more steps than I have done in the whole year. This also motivated me to walk more and and loose some body fat so thank you for it
This is much better than your other content. No pointless flexing, no unneeded subtitles, just a positive message. I'll resubscribe if this is what you do now!
I like how Jack is transitioning his content somewhat like Ryan trayhan, during 2020 - 2023 doing some more full on content and starting to move into more calmer content that doesn’t require so much money or production
I’ve done a few week long backpacking hikes, and your experience was exactly mine. At the beginning it was gruelling, and I didn’t know if I could keep doing it. But around day 3 or 4, my body adjusted, and I started to feel fantastic. My appetite also went *down*, which is interesting. Feet blisters are the worst part, so you have to make sure you have very good shoes.
I’m a little bit late here but every year, I do a big walk in the north of Sydney, Australia for charity. It is about 35 km, takes about 7 hours and is about that many steps. I’m not too exhausted after it each year but if I had to do it every day for a week, I reckon I would be absolutely exhausted. Well done Jack for committing to the challenge and can’t wait to see the results (I’m writing this at the beginning of the video)
ive been walking and dieting for about 15 months now and the fact that ive lost over 170lbs at this point is just surreal. granted i was very overweight but the fact that just walking and watching your intake can do so much is crazy
Sort of, but it now really is JackSucksAtLife. He is starting to show himself actually doing things opposed to just sitting down and filming in front of a computer. This is what JackSucksAtLife should be about.
After your previous video I was so excited to see what you would do next. This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on youtube, and I feel so inspired after watching it. I love your content so much and I am thrilled to see whatever you do in the future! Thanks for making such high quality content!
When your toe turned black on day 9, that also happened to me when I was walking a large amount. That stayed for like 6 months I literally had to cut half my nail off and wash it for it to go back to normal, the nail isn't even fully grown back and now I have an ingrown toenail.
Too small shoes. Too narrow toebox. Brooks Ghost, one size up your "usual shoesize" and never had a black toe. Btw feet, nose and ears grow even in adults. You might want to size up every ten to fifteen years.
For people thinking about attempting this challenge, you need to have thicker sock and shoes that your feet do not movearound in. One thing I noticed about your hiking boots is that they are not tied all the way up, they are only tied where your ankle begins. Tying them all the way up will limit foot movement in your boot and you would not get blisters. If you are prone to blisters be proactive and put Band-Aids over the areas where you get blisters before you start your walk.
You'd be great on the Blue Cross event in Zimbabwe around July?/August some time. It's a 500km walk from the lowest point in Zim to its highest point atop Mt Nyangani.
I walk around 15K steps daily thanks to my athletic dog (a GSP). My shoes of choice are Asics GT2000, which are simply amazing - never blisters, never foot pains, and never a twisted ankle. If you upgrade your footwear, you can walk without pain day after day.
A pro-tip to reduce blistering: Make sure your shoes/boots are tied up tight; you don't want your feet moving/sliding around inside the shoe, or it will cause chafing, which will lead to blistering. Another tip: If you feel a hotspot (a tender and/or red area of your skin), you can apply athletic tape over the location. The tape will bear the brunt of the blister-causing friction; if you catch it quick enough, it can prevent a blister from forming. Wool socks can also help as they add cushion and are excellent at wicking away moisture, moisture that would otherwise weaken the skin and increase the amount of friction on it.
For anyone in the comments thinking about doing this (or if Jack sees this) there’s multiple comments about not losing muscle. With the amount of increased steps there needs to be a calorie increase (not only protein) to ensure muscle doesn’t get burned. Also with the length of movement in the morning fasted cardio will start to burn muscle, so eat before and after! Additionally sleep is one of the most important factors to muscle growth and overall health. I’m referencing this from memory, so I’m not going to get it 100% right, and research shows that if there’s two groups doing the same exercise, eating the same with the right macros, but one is sleeping 8 hours and one is sleeping 6 or less hours the one sleeping under the recommended will burn through muscle not fat. So I’m curious if he was sleeping more if he would have been able to increase his calories bc his body might have not been hungry bc it may have started burning muscle, or if his body would have recovered better and he could have avoided the swollen ankles!
I used to walk far away places, earlier this year, but sometimes, you just get really tired and think , oh god, i cannot go anymore furthur or back, which really is scary, becuase if you are 20kms away from home in an unknown place with no vehicles around, its crazy hard. Since then, i walk in big circles or rectrangles, like in a park or within a sector, which at least gives me reliance that i can reach home at any time. Either way, great video Jack :)
Congrats on continuing the challenges! One thing that’s cool is that eventually you’re going to find something you really like and keep to that particular activity.
35k steps a day is a lot. It's been 30 years...but I do miss England. Your hikes remind me a lot of the hikes I did every day for the 5 years I was there. Great video... Let me know when you decide to mentor me.

Hope you better soon man!
Really hope you find your way through, friend. One foot in front of the other and each little bit of progress will see you through.
I know you've probably been told this, but start going to the gym. That and getting enough sleep (which is easier if you're regular at the gym) has helped me loads. And the latest science is really encouraging, all you need is like 20 minutes trice a week, as long as you put in your full effort. You just have to make it a habit.
And here are some tips that worked for me:
The best gym is the closest gym.
Eg. "I'll skip drinking today, tomorrow is gym day."
Keep the exercises as simple as you can.
I feel you! Walk, bro
definitely try to spend more time in the real world with friends and family if youre depressed though.
We got a Becky and Kong cameo in the video! Woo! Great video I like the Jack sense of humor and Jack awkwardness and points!
This is such a fascinating video to watch as someone who is disabled and suffers from chronic fatigue and pain, the ease you can walk for such long periods of time is just superhuman to me genuinely. I can barely walk for more than 10 minutes without suffering hours of pain and complete exhaustion
Doing this while doing pushups because of jacks last video is a vibe. Ready to start this step challenge! Keep it up!
this is jack's single calmest video. Great to watch while doing chores! love it!
I average around like 12k steps a day, and bumping that up to 35 sometimes takes a toll, the next day is painful, Kudos to you that you could do that 7 days straight
Jack doing more steps in a week than me in a year is crazy
I love how your taking on fitness content. You've always been like the average person we all are but have that difference we all love when it comes to watching you on RUclips. To see you actively changing your fitness inspires me to workout more. I'm only 17 and have a considerably decent physique and even watching you go out there and put the effort in motivates me to carry on further. Good on you mate!
Oh wow - I struggle with hitting 10K a day even with high intensity exercise. Now I know why - tech job, city dwelling. Your surroundings encourage walking! Freaking gorgeous scenery!!

Yoooo Thx For The Heart ❤️
i love how straightforward this video was. and also that's amazing, i get 10k a day and i'm already tired 😭 u've got feet of steel!

she did!!

I walk around that each day as a group fitness instructor and I can say it takes a toll on your joints after a while no matter how good shape you're in
I loved the cut to just Jack in bed with the stats. Huge props to you for completing this challenge, an average of 35,700 steps a day is insane. Congrats again
The camera person is the real hero here. He did the challenge too
Jack needs to invite you onto the channel for one of these videos
@@cozyvrc no
@@cozyvrcI’m not worth that time 😂
I think it would be neat for you to describe a plan for general fitness for him. (length of time?)
Then a plan to gain X?
That'd be fun to watch.

The American mind can't comprehend this
Yes, Jack.
Respect!
Listening to music while walking is uplifting and gives me energy when I'm walking. Also try some shoes with a wide toe base like Altra. They're my favorite.
Honestly i really enjoy this new style of videos and I'm reallly jealous of the nature near you
I am 14 and weigh 94 kg and this gave me hope on loosing weigh! its just i still dont hvae the motivation on starting but thank you jack for goving me hope!

You can try to find some kind of dance if you find walking too boring 🤔
But you should like that kind of dance 🤷🏼♂️
(or there are some videogames, I use the old StepMania where the arrows are to be stepped on)
You can do it but the flip side is only YOU can DO what it takes to get your waist size back to normal....that abdominal fat will set you up for health issues later so best to lose it now when you have that speedy teen metabolism...watch what you eat too...just contemplating this means that you're at the starting point👍
Jack your videos always comfort me when I’m stressed because your voice is so calming
For future goals ... u need to include stretches to keep the leg/foot pain in check
bro did not skip leg day
Bro took didn’t skip leg day to the extreame
he didn't skip leg WEEK
Only for this week
Bravo!! Know though that no smart watch gives you a completely accurate reading of steps! It tends to overcount. But wow that's very time consuming.....
I love these self-improvement videos Jack! Looking forward to more!
i love Jack making really good videos while focusing on his health. Love the vids!!!
next try stairmastering 250k steps
also I would never expect a jack shirtless at the end of my school day
love the new content jack. you have walked more steps than I have done in the whole year. This also motivated me to walk more and and loose some body fat so thank you for it
that one website about celebrity feet is gonna have a field day with this one
This is much better than your other content. No pointless flexing, no unneeded subtitles, just a positive message. I'll resubscribe if this is what you do now!
3:03 1000 steps going to the toilet…bloody hell Jack how big is your gaff??
I like how Jack is transitioning his content somewhat like Ryan trayhan, during 2020 - 2023 doing some more full on content and starting to move into more calmer content that doesn’t require so much money or production
4:55 jack looks like 2020 jack again omg
It's the glasses I think (or rather the lack thereof)
@InternetDoggo yes, but in his reddit videos, he has removed he's glasses a few times, and there he looks very differently

What lovely countryside to walk in!
I love this concept of videos. Keep up the good work Jack!
Feet blisters are the worst part, so you have to make sure you have very good shoes.
is it just me who really likes these vlog-style videos
Same they’re really fun and different from the normal vids in a good way tho 😊
I’m a little bit late here but every year, I do a big walk in the north of Sydney, Australia for charity. It is about 35 km, takes about 7 hours and is about that many steps. I’m not too exhausted after it each year but if I had to do it every day for a week, I reckon I would be absolutely exhausted. Well done Jack for committing to the challenge and can’t wait to see the results (I’m writing this at the beginning of the video)
Is this the Bob Tug Walk?
really nice video, somewhat relaxing to watch too especially after a bit of a bad day! thanks for uploading!
ive been walking and dieting for about 15 months now and the fact that ive lost over 170lbs at this point is just surreal. granted i was very overweight but the fact that just walking and watching your intake can do so much is crazy
Is jacksucksatlife turning into jacksucksatfitness????
😂
Jack doesn't seem to suck at it tho
@turtleburger200 true but his channel names are sarcastic
Sort of, but it now really is JackSucksAtLife. He is starting to show himself actually doing things opposed to just sitting down and filming in front of a computer. This is what JackSucksAtLife should be about.
@IsabelJones69 it is a joke I don't really mean it
After your previous video I was so excited to see what you would do next. This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on youtube, and I feel so inspired after watching it. I love your content so much and I am thrilled to see whatever you do in the future! Thanks for making such high quality content!

however many likes this comment gets, is how many steps jack has to do in 1 day.
Don’t like
Get stepping, Jack!
In the moment it's 28, jack will have to do more than me daily already
Hi
This comment is gonna blow up
Reminds me of The Fast Show, Brilliant!
When your toe turned black on day 9, that also happened to me when I was walking a large amount. That stayed for like 6 months I literally had to cut half my nail off and wash it for it to go back to normal, the nail isn't even fully grown back and now I have an ingrown toenail.
@@PatSmellsOfPlumbs is ur yt name that bc it’s the rip off SamSmellsOfApricots ??
@@ItsBeyondBeliefYT yes, but there is actually a woman called pat(ricia) and she actually does smell of plumbs a bit
Too small shoes. Too narrow toebox. Brooks Ghost, one size up your "usual shoesize" and never had a black toe. Btw feet, nose and ears grow even in adults. You might want to size up every ten to fifteen years.
Probably small shoes. You should have about a quarter of an inch to half an inch of space between your toe and the end of the shoe
It's a pressure bruise. They go away after a few months. I had one for a long time on one of my feet.
your the real jacksfitness 💯🔥
I’m loving these for some reason
Damn I need to walk more. The highest step count I did this year was only 28k. 35k a day for a week is crazy
Now this is where we need jacksucksatfitness . Like 2 fitness videos means we need a new channel
If you are prone to blisters be proactive and put Band-Aids over the areas where you get blisters before you start your walk.
this might be my favorite jack video so far 👏
The nature looks so beautiful, how could not walk with that
17:57 that's concerning you should get that checked just in case from a doctor
Yeah I hade it happen to me from dropping a tablet on my foot and I was ok but would recommend getting looked at
You'd be great on the Blue Cross event in Zimbabwe around July?/August some time. It's a 500km walk from the lowest point in Zim to its highest point atop Mt Nyangani.
33 seconds 8 views jack really fell off!!!
(This video is sooo good your physical health is getting so much better than in the last few years!!)
I walk around 15K steps daily thanks to my athletic dog (a GSP). My shoes of choice are Asics GT2000, which are simply amazing - never blisters, never foot pains, and never a twisted ankle. If you upgrade your footwear, you can walk without pain day after day.
I'd love to see Jack and GeoWizard to go on an adventure together. Just have a wander with £10 in pocket or something like that :D
I walked 69,420 steps in one day, and it was one of the most painful things I've ever done
Thanks!
You gave $2 to Jack and said "thanks"
Legend
Also major props to the camera person! I assume they didn't do the whole challenge with you but they seemed to be there most of the time!
Rare footage of crocs being good for walking
You made it look so easy. This video really encouraged me to start walking more. Thank you and I hope your feet has recovered 💕
Jack is now my favorite RUclipsr by far
Average of 35,700 steps a day! wow jack, keep it up!
