Hi Julia, I get such joy watching you play with your watercolours, as you discover new techniques. Eventually you will try different brush sizes and learn to relax your hand as you apply the paint to the paper. However, it is all in your own time as you continue to learn. I am loving your enthusiasm in your attempt to create a very unique flower, and you had me in stitches when you added the spiky things... LOL! 🤣 Like you I love combining watercolours and a fine black pen to doodle outlines, and the beauty of that is that you don't have to say within any lines. I know this is not important at the moment as you are still in the early stages of your journey, but when creating flowers, it is best to have the stem directed towards the centre of the flower. Today you demonstrated something that I remember doing as a child, and up until now I had forgotten about it. You had your paper with drawn shapes, and on the reverse side you coloured the shapes with pencil, then traced the image to create a carbon copy onto a blank piece of paper. Julia, do you remember (in the olden days...LOL... 🤣) when we used carbon paper to make a duplicate of a document? I doubt carbon paper exists these days!!! Progress is often a challenge for me... 😵💫 As I have said before your watercolour journey is so refreshing and thank you for being brave enough to document and share your journey with all of us. God's blessings and love. 🩷🎨🌷
My Dear Friend Gloria! Thank you for your continued encouragement! I understand what you say about relaxing my hand, but it doesn't move from the brain to the hand just yet. Also, those brushes of Mother's are very long, and I am continuously worried they will hit the camera which is above the table. Once this move is complete, I am hoping to work on a better camera setup for this series. But right now it's all I can do to find my glasses! LOL - I had no idea how much energy this move would take when we started a year ago, and how much of my brain would be kicked to the curb LOL!! But, I definitely can remember carbon paper! But this little pencil rub technique works and leaves a light enough line that I doubt it even has to be erased. God's bessings and Hugs from across the World!
Another great video! It is nice to experience and follow along with another’s beginning journey via videos. It makes it much less frustrating. Most beginner videos are by experienced artists who are far from beginner and often fail to understand basics for beginners. LOL what they think are basic are usually more advanced. I appreciate you making this easier to learn. I am right there with you regarding straight lines, be it drawing, cutting, aligning card layers, sewing, quilting, etc. LOL it has been a lifelong struggle but somehow I manage to get by. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us.
Ahhh Morgaine! I wish I could draw what I see! And paint just adds another entire realm into the picture doesn't it? I remain hopeful that I will improve with time and be an inspiration to others! Take care My Friend!!
Oh Goodness! I'm so glad to hear you say that!!! I will be practicing too. Sorry no video this week, we were moving furniture yesterday and I am worn completely out! We'll pick up again next week.
I so enjoy your beginning watercolor journey and you sharing it with us. Love your today's flower with it's spiral shape and hairy edges, looks like a fun flower to put on a card!
@@SeniorSusieStamps The card came in the mail today, seeing the real thing, it is even more beautiful and a treasure, I love it!! Thank you, hugs and blessings to you too.
@@SeniorSusieStamps We will be fine! Painting is no different then learning to play the piano. Practice, practice, practice. It will eventually become natural!!! I have tons of scrap to practice on...good ole scraps. 😉
I think sometimes we are too hard on ourselves Terrie! Put on some soothing music and just relax into it. If you feel you are too heavy handed, perhaps go down a size in your brush? And remember to monitor how wet your brush is, it's easy to get blobs when your brush is too wet. You have seen me do that several times!

Well, Julia, I did it. I worked on the brush strokes, weren't too bad near the end. Almost looked like the ones in the book! Almost, LOL
