@@rdb223 Forspoken And Kena are ps5 exclusives (EDIT: not actually exclusive, apologies). They both look fantastic. So those on top of Demon's souls, Returnal and Rachet. Doesn't seem like they're doing so bad to me. Also I'm not sure if you've seen the recent Horizon Forbidden west demonstration, but it looks incredible despite the fact that it'll have a ps4 version as well, and I'm pretty confident Ragnarok won't look too shabby either.
This is the one "next-gen" game that has made a lasting impact on me. Insomniac has once again knocked it out of the park. What a time to be a gamer...

Most developers: downgrades games compared to trailers.

They might take away a few puddles here and there though.
Let’s be real here, the only example of a real downgrade from the Trailers/E3 comes from Ubisoft and CDProjectRED.. worst developers when it comes to downgrade culture.

Except they downgraded Spider-Man, removed puddles (and not for the sake of getting rid of puddles themselves, screw that meme, but because they had to remove the hard to render reflections IN the puddles) and some lighting effects. Nice try though.
Most people after watching the demo: Imminent downgrade incomin, the actual game can't look this good.
Digital Foundry: The game is actually tremendously upgraded from the demo.
I guess people didn't learn from Miles Morales. The actual game featured better reflection quality and more BVH elements present in ray raced reflection like some pedestrians' reflections were missing in the demo trailer but were present in actual game. All the people saying that Horizon Forbidden West is gonna get downgraded will also get their face squashed when it will be upgraded as well,just like GG did with their first game Horizon Zero Dawn,that was also upgraded when people were saying it's gonna get downgraded.

@Kaheeros Correct. Cyberpunk is build different as well. With that comes some basic problems you shouldn't have, but, on the flipside, they build open worlds with the best narrative, cause it's build up differently.

Well depends on what going to tease.
Majority of the games are still crossed gen. Now, if you going by sales, then you exclusive games loses to cross-gen/multiplatform games. Xbox heavy hitter are Halo, Fable, and Starfield.

id reserve judgement man until u see it because could be just a case of devs doing no different than say some deciding to have a doom eternal or witcher 3 switch port...gameplay still being able to stay intact and unnchanged besides visuals for lesser capable hardware makes it feasible, not all games have diff world within world and dimension switching, etc a super complex and taxing gameplay loop/focus to make deciding to include last gen a burden...so yeah it doesn't have to mean downgrade or less ambitious...to me horizon forbidden west if they would have said it's PS5 only could easily believe it and we will see the stark difference when they show the PS4 version watch...heck it's no different than say if they said let's port ratchet rift apart anyways removing ray tracing and having those dimensions have loading and other reductions...kind of like games on pc running on low end to high end cards/low end high end settings...just depends, devs do what makes sense and if they think they can still make it work they will, while others will not
with that said man dont worry as we get into the gen with new engines releasing and such, devs having learned more tricks and wanting to try and introduce something new, that's what'll start making games look and do that much more incredible stuff more than anything/just hardware related, happens every gen

@@melxb God of War level design was extremely limited, you are basically glued to the ground, walking corridors all the time, long boat rides, etc to give the game time to load bigger levels. It does make the game bad but it depreciate the valeu of the experience in subsequent play through when you want to get to the most interesting parts and skip the filler content. There was hope that the sequel on PS5 would open up level design and make it more dynamic and vertical without the constraints of the ssd. This hope is now null. Probably will be a great game yet but it will be limited by the PS4. Also fuck Sony for asking 10 dollars more of PS5 owners to what amounts basically to ultra graphical settings in a PS4 game.
@@melxb The devs basically said they pushed the console to the limit to achieve what they did IIRC. It's going to be hard to drastically increase the scope when the hardware is so freaking old. It's doubtful they'll find crazy optimizations this late in the gen. I have no doubt it will be good, but I have doubts it will be a big step up.

So it’s somehow an upgrade over the already Pixar-like trailers? That’s actually insane. Having this image quality, while loading worlds instantly, and running at 60fps WITH ray-tracing. Insomniac doing this a few months after PS5 launch, they’re incredible.

It's definitely the first to show off everything in one package! Demons souls showed off the Audio and Detail level it could provide *along side the dualsense* and Returnal definitely showed off the full controller and the above were as this shows off more or less everything haha it's impressive to see what Devs can do when they actually know there stuff

I thought the game looked good, but after this tech review, i'm completely blown away.
That's one clean looking presentation. I'm an XBOX guy and here's hoping someone at Microsoft will realize they have some great franchises like Banjo-Kazooie and others that need some love like Ratchet and Clank got here.
Yooka-Laylee was fun, but it didn't come close to my desire for a 3rd proper Banjo-Kazooie game.

PC players respect playstation titles because its pushing the graphics further, you cant say the same with Xbox when Halo Infinite and the Medium looks like an early 360 game

In half a year Insomniac has already released: Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales (a cross-gen title with all the extra work that this implies, yet it still looks amazing on PS5) and R&C, a technical masterpiece and a true showcase of the PS5 capabilities.
These developers are incredible.
I Hope they are working on a new Resistance game or new Sunset game.

@@cartermo13 IGN picked up a decent tech reviewer, they also just released their tech review video. I do prefer Digital Foundry for my tech information needs but I have started watching both now. They do talk about a couple of things that the other person missed, or highlighted in greater detail etc. It's win/win to watch both honestly, and if there are other channels on this level I would watch them too but there aren't many I'm familiar with. I also watch The Cherno channel too but he uploads infrequently.
I'm amazed at how much like a high quality CGI movie this looks like. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the other first party playstation developers.
Well, it makes sense when you think about. All these effects being used ALL started on CGI movies. The more time goes on, the more these methods are worked into real time. We're getting closer :)

1. ps5 version will have 60 FPS performance mode
2. ps5 version features 3D audio and dual sense features
3. ps5 version will use cinematic grade lighting system, ps4 will only use it on cutscenes.
4. ps5 version will have a special rendering techinques for under water scenes.

Imsomniac, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica Studio, AND last but not least Guerrilla Games. (there, fixed it! lol). they are all Playstation's bread and butter.
This game looks absolutely insane.
As well as being a technological and graphical masterpiece, the story is amazing too. You don't have to have played previous games to dive in. Worth a buy 100%.

I can't wait to play this; i just finished Ratchet and Clank 2016 (60FPS on my PS5) and I thought that already looked amazing. I love the unique gameplay and charming style. Really excited to play this!
I replayed R&C 2016 just because of the 60fps patch, wish more old games had that from Sony.

I'm a sucker for cartoony-looking games and while its predecessor was incredibly close at achieving the look of offline rendering in real-time, this one adds the extra details to the point where it's nearly impossible to differentiate it from the movie.
Hell, it even looks prettier than the movie, at least in comparison to the scenes you showed in this video.

I gotta say - this is a launch title, and it looks this amazing... Generally, you don't see this quality level until the end of a hardware generation, but we're hitting it out of the park on day one. This game still is absolutely gorgeous, and I still have yet to play a game that really captures this much intense detail.
With that being said, cartoony graphics will always beat realistic graphics just due to the uncanny valley effect. We are getting damn close to getting out of that valley, but it's still there, even if only slightly. That Matrix tech demo though - that is damn close.
This is truly unbelievable stuff. I can't wait to play this bad boy!

This is a simple platformer for teens. We are decades away from this quality in say a Tomb Raider complexity game. Also 30fps is pathetic

@@DavidKnowles0 Insomniac and ND were quite chummy in the PS2 and PS3 days. The older R&C titles regularly gave ND special thanks and there was a lot of Jak & Daxter references. No idea if it's the same now.
Insomniac has always been a top tier studio, IMO. They were just overlooked. Despite receiving consistently high review scores, R&C was rarely viewed as a "MUST HAVE!" selling point for PS2 and PS3 like, like Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, and Gran Turismo. I suppose the quirky humor kept it from being viewed as a "serious" game or something, but that's one thing Insomniac has consistently done: remember first and foremost games are supposed to be fun.
Insomniac is one of the few studios whose games I'll still pre-order. Publishers should just give them blank checks and walk away. No need to mess with their product or let suits interfere with their process.

To be clear, i was explaining the technique, and i thinks its great. So no war, just appreciation. Native pixel is not the way forward, upsampling is.

I love how there are 'hiccups' in the transitions... which are like a fraction of a second at most, and somehow is a flaw when the whole process is just insane to begin with lol.

@@riceeater79 It features reflections only. Not really much of a showcase compared to games like Cyberpunk, Control, or Metro Exodus EE which all feature multiple RT effects which seriously elevate the visuals.
Technically, hits all the right notes!! 7 months after launch that's 5 games (Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls, Miles Morales Returna and Rachet and Clank) showing off the next gen capabilities of the PS5. This may turn out to be PlayStation's best generation!!

After beating Returnal this should be calming to play.

All the technical jargon aside, this game looks absolutely incredible. It could be the best looking console game of all time to this point. Kudos to both DF for the great technical breakdown and to Insomniac for this amazing looking game.

I really need to own the PS5 this generation more and more games will be insane who cares about cross generation the graphics will be insane and PS5 Dualsense controller as well.
I finally got one! Gamestop bundle was easy to buy if you get there right away. Bots and scalpers don't go for the bundles at all. Came with Returnal, a second controller, a gamestop gift card (where the value comes from) and MLB 21 the show which I'm just gonna return to walmart.

Insomniac Games is one of the top game studios in the business....just look at the visual masterpiece they'd made with Sunset Overdrive on the og Xbox One. Sony was smart in purchasing this studio.

But somehow I just cannot justify spending another 500 and get a console which only gives me slightly better multi-platts... It is just not enough, Xbox feels empty to me without some knock-out exclusives. I will wait till E3 I guess... Xbox should sign a management contract with Sony and immediately kick out Phil Spencer. Relatively on-rails (literally in some cases) levels should never be compared to large open worlds.

@facts overmarxism if cdpr just made the game for only PC it wouldve been fine. I think it was just over ambitious to try to make that game for ps4, ps5, xb1, xbox series x, xbox series s, plus all the pc configs. That's why I dont like that ms is doing xbox and pc day and date. All their devs are now multiplatform devs. Sony devs can focus time and resources to make the best experience for just 1 or 2(in the case of cross gen) specs. Then they can port (or contract out the port) for pc later down the line.
@@justwait9822 cdpr also made a version for the 5 people playing on stadia. What a waste of time but Google probably compensated them very well for that port.

Props for the retro R&C background tracks used throughout the review. Been a fan since Xmas 2002, and I'm SO hyped by the effort Insomniac put into Rift Apart. Will buy a PS5 just for this when they're no longer unicorn status.

@@braedonlock3359 Best Buy had that problem with scalpers... i had that issue with best buy when I had it in my Cart but once i check out it would say the item is not available in your store. even tho the item is in the cart, i would have to pick a different store and every store in my city was sold out. the nearest was the next city which was hundreds of miles away.
then i heard that Best buy was being bypassed by scalper bots able to buy the consoles while the timer was still ticking.

Depends on your idea of beauty and aesthetics, HZ FW visually for a cross gen titles looks better and that's with real time global illumination and open world. Realistic looking characters and believable machinery everywhere. See two visually stunning games, different aesthetic approaches. Which is best? Dunno?!

Demon Souls is definitely a looker, isn't The Village visually better looking though? 🤔I think I heard folks saying right now it's the visually best game out on PS5 currently.
@@evilformerlys4704 Yes and no , Horizon is unfinished so will likely look better anyway. Foliage was only partly reactive which dragged that down a bit. I liked the under water parts but too much of the demo was scripted to get any sense on how good the game would be to play.
Downloaded and watched it in supreme quality from Patreon. Looks amazing!
This was free on PS+ so I downloaded it, after about 5 hours in I think it's still easily the best looking game on PS5 right next to Demon Souls. Just an absurd amount of detail and it looks incredible. I really hope more games in the future start having balanced mode for this with high refresh rate monitors, 40 frames is just fine and 45 should become the general target, it's more than fluid enough while keeping all the bells and whistles of fidelity/ RT modes. Really fun game also, the combat is surprisingly addictive.

This is what I've been saying. A lot of people seemed to think Insomniac came out of nowhere in 2018. They've been doing this for years and I'm happy they're finally getting the accolades they deserve.

You have to consider how many versions Ubisoft covers though. This is just a PS5 game at least for now. One of the criticisms i have seen levelled at this game is there isn't really much to do outside of the objectives where as Farcry games are sandbox where you make your own fun. Some will always prefer this over a laser focused game no matter how good it looks.13-15 hrs you are done with this title where as Farcry games you can still discover things after 100 hrs most of the time.
One of the things that really sticks out to me is the hair strands. I don't think I've ever seen a game that comes close to this level of detail. It straight up looks like a CGI movie. Everything is so incredibly detailed it blows my mind. Gonna have to pick this one up when it comes out
The most mid blowing part is that fact they still use texture shells to fake it at some LODs, just like in Shadow of the Colossus for PS2 and Starfox Adventure for GameCube 2 decades ago.
Insomniac always delivers! Freaking amazing on how they are able to deliver these much details. From RT reflections to Pixar type of quality graphics. Truly next gen!
