The fast loading, the textures, ray tracing 30fps mode, full 60fps performance mode, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. God damn I cant wait to get my ps5 on Thursday.
*When people do 60fps at 1080p with full ray tracing on PC, it's usually with a graphics card that costs $500 (and up) on its own, not counting the other $300-$400 parts that surround it* Keep some expectations in check. This rock-solid native 4K/30 mode with deep RT world coverage is fantastic for a first-gen, cross-gen game on an affordable console.
my hope is that now RT is a mainstream consideration, theres a proliferation of new techniques and efficiencies discovered to give the benefit with some tricks that make it more efficient

what a way to start next gen consoles, i'm glad that insomniac put the console to a higher level, i'd love to see a 1080p 60fps ray tracing mode, that will interesting to check
exactly 1080p60 with ray tracing 1080p is still a great resolution, maybe the only people who won't agree are those who've got 4k tvs (not me unfortunately)
Sony and Microsoft are Both very silent about 1080p and I dont get IT.... I would choose 1080p with raytracing and high detail (instead of ultra) all Day every Day above 30fps 4k. The diffirence when playing between high and ultra is unoticeable while flippin Both analoge sticks left and right but gives at least 20% preformance benefit.
The fact that everything seems to float really disturbs me when everything else looks so great. Proper raytraced shadows, or a global illumination mix would do a lot.
In adventure games everything above 40fps looks 'sharp' to me and i can't tell the difference between 1440p and 4k when i'm farther than 3m to a 60" tv. I don't care about all those numbers, but i do care about amazing global illumination and reflections. (See unreal 5 trailer.) Drop the marketing numbers bs, give us visuals!
For a launch game this looks bloody incredible on the PS5. 60fps mode, RT mode, use of dualsense and 3d audio. How did insomniac do this in 2 years while working on Ratchet and Clank!
They didn’t develop the game from scratch. There were a lot of upgrades but that’s them iterating over what was already available. Ratchet and Clank however, that’s an entirely different story.
Yes of course they had a lot in place from the previous Spider-Man otherwise it would have taken them 5 years or so. But still to put out a new game with lots of improvements etc at the same time as making Ratchet and Clank which also looks phenomenal is no mean feat.
This game looks effing fantastic and it is nice to see that what Sony said about fast loading times really shines here. It is utterly stunning how a game that looks this good can load so fast from the dashboard to the meny and then just another 2 seconds to load the save fil and you are in this insanely good looking open world game. Impressive to say the least.
yea, sadly you will not see a lot of 60 fps modes with the next gen titles, these are all cross gen titles. this is why i bought a rtx3080 and not a ps5 or xbox4. idc about 4 sec. less loading times or 4k, i just want to play at 50fps minimum.
I always thought spiderman on ps4 looked great. Seeing them side by side now makes the old game look like a comic book. What an improvement in details and lightning. Holy shit!
The ironic thing is that I think Insomniac significantly improved their art style as well so Miles Morales looks more like a comic book to me in a good way.
Kudos to Insomniac for adding a solid 60fps performance mode. The cherry on top would have been a 1080p 60fps mode WITH all the bells and whistles including Ray Tracing.
@@HM-wn2in it looks stunning but I do feel they are overcharging now. The game is a bit shorter and it seems they had the entire foundation already there 😕 would've been nice if they'd sell it at around 40/50

These are the kind of games we deserve going into next-gen, Insomniac are wizards at their craft and I can’t wait to experience not only this and Ratchet and Clank, but also the kinds of games that will come out by the end of this generation.
it looks good but the gameplay is the same generic button mash overly easy nonsense from the batman arkham games, very mechanically shallow and the ratchet and clank remake was a shallow disspaoinng butchering of the original game. Ratchet and clank 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games, i urge everyone to go back and play them they are better than the remake by a lot and better than most games today.
@@WookieWarriorz I agree that this game isn’t the most ambitious and most fresh game ever made, but I do still think that Insomniac definitely have a handle on the franchise and are currently putting out good games that do Spider-Man justice.
Yeah that's what we PC guys have been on about for years now, glad that it made its way to both consoles, it will bring a shift in development of games & we too would benefit from it
@Airidas Kiveris SSD is a broad term. from sata drives to nvme there are a lot of varying levels of speed that you can get from an SSD. The PS5 uses PCI-E 4.0 (Gen 4) NVME SSD. I have a samsung 970 Evo, which is PCI-E 3.0, still very fast but not quite as fast as 4.0 and what is in the Next gen consoles. You probably have a gen 3 NVME or SATA drive which is why no game loads THAT FAST for you.
@Airidas Kiveris Yeah, I was just commenting on the difference a SSD makes over a HDD. And remember that Sony's implementing a special/custom decompression system which increases the already insanely fast PCIe 4.0 speeds and the fact that it's a first party title from Sony, so it's greatly optimised. But we too should be reaping the benefits of things like Microsoft's Direct Storage API, RTX I/O & AMD's SAM in the coming years, I just wish I was a bit younger though.
@@JuanSinMiedo441 Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Don't act like games from prior generations weren't also pushing the envelope technically either. You can have both, these things are not mutually exclusive and never have been, even with a new console generation beginning. @Chiriac Puiu agree. Its some people who are bitching about 4k 60frames. 2013 it was all about 1080p 60frames. Now we have in demon souls 1440p and 60 frames and the people are still not happy. If we have 4k 60 frames they will say now bur without raytracing. With raytracing its just 30frames. And if we will have 4k 60 frames with raytracing on ps5 pro they will say: but it should be 8k 120 frames. Just ignore this 1% of players and enjoy the games. Most didnt even care
@@stevie-b sorry 1800p with TAA reconstruction making it essentially impossible to actually notice it’s not 2160p. 30fps with this games motion blur is great and if you don’t like it 60fps with no ray tracing is easily accessible.
The comparison between fidelity mode and performance mode reminded me so hard what a difference 30fps and 60fps is again. My eyes just looked at the right the whole time.
@Rohan Rathour To be fair though, i really do wonder how often one would notice this since you will be web slinging half of the time or in combat, which is highly more enjoyable in 60 fps. Ray tracing looks really good but for a game like this, it's 60fps for me. In the end it is personal preference
I mean nobody experienced loading a random save file in an open-world game like Spider-Man MM in 1.5 seconds: 2:01. That's pretty crazy and practically instant load times.
The PS5 SSD is a game changer no pun, I bought this today and it installed in like 10 mins, loading is basically obsolete in this and 2K21 (THATS ALL I HAVE SO FAR LOL) Its crazy that it's even capable to load in less than 5 seconds

The fact that this game looks so stunning when it's basically an upgraded previous gen title makes me very optimistic for dedicated PS5/XSX titles. In a few years, there's going to be some exceptional stuff out there. The leap from PS4 to PS5 reminds me of the PS2-PS3 upgrade far more than the more subtle PS3-PS4 upgrade.

I just finished Miles Morales on PS5 tonight. It was so beautiful. I think back to the 80s when I was a kid playing Super Mario Bros on Nintendo and thinking games couldn't get any better-looking. Now we get film-like games. I'm excited for more AAA games for the PS5!
I do think people need to reign in their expectations for a massive graphics upgrade this gen as GPU's have more or less doubled in performance - but ray tracing or 60 fps both eat up that double performance and memory bandwidth hasn't scaled a whole lot. Last gen had fairly strong visuals, but the CPU's and storage solution didn't really upgrade from the 360/PS3 era. Even with the Pro/X consoles you were left with the PC equal to something along the lines of pairing a GTX 1060 or a RX 460 with an AMD bulldozer. This gen everything has been brought into balance; this will mark the most balanced gen we've ever had. People should be far more excited about how exclusive games that aren't trying to target the PS4 or a lower end PC can be designed around that SSD and significantly stronger CPU. How worlds could feel seamless, larger and more alive than ever. And as much as I love the Series X, this is where Sony can and will have a massive advantage in game design... because as long as Microsoft continues to dual release their games on PC, unless they make the PC specs require an SSD, and specs that at least match the Series X, they will always be limited in how they can design worlds.
First playthrough: fidelity mode. I am used to the 30fps cuz I just played through Spiderman ps4. And because it stays locked in at 30fps, I am just fine with that. Second playthrough: performance mode. Just to experience the smoother 60 fps, and because I'll be less interested in looking at all the shiny things
@@Camdavis11 Difference between 60 and 30 isn't so massive that you can't go back to. PC gamers with high end 16K1000 fps rigs are able to adjust to 30fps in order to enjoy the PlayStation exclusives. It was so on PS4 and PS3 and PS2 and PS1. Why wouldn't be on PS5 as well?
@@GameslordXY of course I can adjust as well but after seeing the same game running at 60 for a while, it's hard to go back to 30. But for example, Last of us 2 is totally fine at 30 for me. These Spider-Man games are like interactive movies, so I don’t mind the 30 FPS for a more filmic game. I honestly want to be blown away by visuals.
I feel the same way. I'm coming from the base PS4 to the PS5 so just playing in 4k is going to be a big jump for me but with ray tracing added I know I'm going to be blown away. I will check out the 60fps mode at some point though. Either mid game or for side missions
I really wish I could just turn down the resolution to 1080p, uncap the framerate and keep raytracing turned on. My TV is only 1080p and I sit far away enough that aliasing isn't really a problem. Games shouldn't force higher resolutions that 1080p yet. It should be optional, since the higher framerate is preferred in my, and many others, cases.
I may have agreed with you 3 -4 years ago, but nowadays with 4k tv, being as cheap as the full HD's a few years ago, and they slowly taking over our living rooms, I'd have to disagree.
@@maltheman96 i disagree, it would cost more development resources for that. They would have to tune the game for that. So it would hurt the developers some what. But if you want a lot more options, you also might as well go to pc. But I do get that more options would be nice.

What do u expect from digital foundary and other influencers and channel on youtube. They are either pc shrills or under microsoft's influence. 3rd party devs always do. They deliberatly stiffle the performance on consoles to please pc hardware manufacturers especially nvida. That's what happens every gen. The cards or cpus that out perform consoles in digital foundary tests at the begenning of a generation the same hardware absolutely struggle to run games on par with console settings 4 years down the line. Yet that same hardware was out performing consoles at the begenning of the generation. When horizon forbidden west an open world graphics power house can run locked 60 fps. For that matter aother utterly stunning open world game spiderman miles moralis runs at a locked 60 fps with ray tracing enabled. How on earth plague tale requirm can't run at 60 fps is beyond me. Shame on this developer. Also a channel called kingthrashgaming exposed digital foundary by using their own screenshots and videos. Especially in a game like control with ray tracing enabled. Series x has so many ray tracing effects missing while ps5 renders them completely. It's a night and day difference. Series x has many bottle necks. Kingthrashgaming has exposed digital foundary many times. Microsoft created series s for a reason. So that this abysmal piece of hardware could become lowest common denominator for games and in process help series x in putting out better visuals and mask its short commings. Just search "Analysing digital foundary's control analysis kingthrashgaming" and see with ur very own eyes digital foundary lying about graphics on series x. Ps5 is a superior console with lots of unique customizations under its hood. For a console ps5 is a beast.
It’s not as simple. When it comes to all these systems it is not merely a cut the resolution in half and you automatically get RT and 60FPS locked. There’s no linearity to the setup meaning that a), the dev needs to actively work to get it to work that way specifically, or b), they already tried, didn’t like what they were getting, and dropped it in favor of putting resources somewhere else.
@@nighttimestalker That is the internet's version of the guy standing outside the convenience store yelling at customers when they look at him. Keep it movin'.

Top-quality video even by the high Digital Foundry standards. great job guys. But Damn! I am going to be torn between the performance and fidelity mode🤔😁
You probably wouldn't need to go that far to achieve that res. 1080p is a quarter of the resolution of 4K already, so the performance savings there are already extreme. I imagine it's just because of perceived lack of demand for such a feature (which is a pity), maybe it will come some time after release? I wouldn't hold my breath though. Perhaps they'll offer an unlocked frames mode with RT? That would mean if you're displaying on a low res screen, it would just push as many frames as it can render in time
@@ExZ1te *sigh* - 4K is 3,840 x 2,160 pixels compared to 1920 x 1080 pixels. On a screen, 4k video contains more than 8 million pixels compared to just 2 million pixels for 1080p. That's 4 x the amount of pixels, 4 times the amount of work for the GPU. (1440p is 50% of 4K too, fyi) It also makes things like Ray-tracing considerably harder to trace (which is why they usually calculate it at a lower-res and upsample and/or use simplified BVH etc etc)
From the controller to the insane load times, everything is so well thought through. Very impressive from Sony, the next big launch will be the wireless PSVR2 2021 can’t wait !

Once you go 60fps, adjusting back to 30fps takes some time - coming back from COD or DOOM on the PS4 always is a chore, and 30fps games feel extra jittery then.
FirPstl Same, I can tell the difference between 30, 60 and higher (1440p/165hz monitor, but I crank settings so my vega56 usually is in the 60-90fps range instead of going for 120 or higher), but going between any doesn't bother me. At most a min or two to adjust to 30 if coming from a higher fps. I wonder if the people that complain about it bothering them or headaches actually have that or are somehow trying to use that as a bragging point. I think it is a hindrance and would suck to be that way. Only time something bugs me is when frame timing is way off, so maybe that is most people's real issue.
@@FireMrshlBill Yeah, I'm not talking days of adjustment - it'll feel weird and annoying for a couple of mins. I did experience getting a headache because of it - Last time it got to me, was after going from MW2 remastered to FC5 (PS4). Not only did the game run at 30, but it also had a narrow FOV, weird motion blur, a noticable input lag (floaty aiming), and all the cutscenes controlled the movements of 1st person POV camera (which we know is a big no no in VR games) - I had to look away from the screen during cutscenes, and turn the game off after like 30 mins, cause I honestly got motion sick. I googled FOV and disabling motion blur on FC5 and it turned out I wasn't the only one. I gave it a shot again and it turned out I was able to play it with no issues later on, but I guess a change from 60 to 30 with all those issues was a sort of a perfect storm for motion sickness in my case.

Yup. But its not their fault so much, both Sony and Microsoft have suggested thats possible, when you probably need 3 times the power of either console to do it.
Maybe there will be in a future patch, but I doubt it. These games on the most expensive consoles seem to have settled for 2 options: nicer graphics at 30fps, or worse graphics but smoother gameplay at 60fps. I guess they are sticking to the "a console is not a PC" mantra.

(See unreal 5 trailer.)

God of War Ragnarok. It's going to be a system seller

1080p/1440p 60fps with ray tracing would have been a nice option
i agree
It’s not as simple. When it comes to all these systems it is not merely a cut the resolution in half and you automatically get RT and 60FPS locked. There’s no linearity to the setup meaning that a), the dev needs to actively work to get it to work that way specifically, or b), they already tried, didn’t like what they were getting, and dropped it in favor of putting resources somewhere else.

I'm still hoping for a 60fps 1080p mode with RT, even if they half the RT resolution.
This is the way
You probably wouldn't need to go that far to achieve that res.
That would mean if you're displaying on a low res screen, it would just push as many frames as it can render in time
@@MrVelociraptor75 yeah. I hope this becomes an option. Rather silly to completely neglect 1080p

That's 4 x the amount of pixels, 4 times the amount of work for the GPU. (1440p is 50% of 4K too, fyi)
It also makes things like Ray-tracing considerably harder to trace (which is why they usually calculate it at a lower-res and upsample and/or use simplified BVH etc etc)

Once you go 60fps, adjusting back to 30fps takes some time - coming back from COD or DOOM on the PS4 always is a chore, and 30fps games feel extra jittery then.

@@GameslordXY I can notice the difference, but it honestly never bothered me constantly switching between 30 and 60. lol
I did experience getting a headache because of it -
Last time it got to me, was after going from MW2 remastered to FC5 (PS4).
What I really love of these Spiderman games is that it really resembles all that is Spiderman. Like it has things from the comic, the movies and just the overall imagination it would be like if you were Spiderman. Just so cool man
