Let me just say thank you for this videos, as someone who's just getting started and doesn't have a lot of tools you make sure to make terrain that is possible to be made even if you only have the most basic of tools and resources at hand
Nice to see someone actually make something without using a proxxon and xps foam. It's harder to come by in the UK and for sheets thick enough to actually make stuff with it costs an arm and a leg. Awesome stuff I will definitely be utilising some of these techniques in my ongoing frostgrave board.
I feel it is my moral obligation to let you know it's now been one month and a day since this amazing video. Your loyal followers need another dose of Atmoseeker crafty, atmospheric goodness! ;)
Haha yes hopefully just using the livestreams to bridge the gap between videos. Great to hear people are keen for more! I have a lot of episodes planned and will be wrapping up filming on one this week. The channel is currently balanced between work, running games and being a dad of 2, but I'm passionate enough to work on it any chance i get. My goal is for every video to be quality i can be proud of and ulitimately be useful for GM's as passionate about this as I am. Hopefully as I upgrade equipment and learn more about creating videos the gap between releases will shrink. Thanks for being a loyal atmoseeker!
Heh, no pressure! I promise! I was trying to strike that delicate balance of not bugging you while also conveying how awesome your videos are at inspiration! Looking forward to the next one as time permits. Cheers!
I would mix the mod podge with blue paint instead of black and do a couple brush layers over it using lighter and lighter blues until getting to white. Would probably end up using less paint overall.
Loved everything about this video. From that greenscreen intro with the matched color grading, those different camera angles which show off the diorama just perfectly, your way of describing the techniques step by step and just that overall production value. I'm not a D&D per se, but I will try and use your techniques to build a cave diorama for 1/144 Gundam scenery. Thanks for the effort and please keep it up. Good value!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the kind words, it's very encouraging 🙏 Using it for Gundam sounds amazing! Great to hear this can translate into other areas of interest. Best of luck with crafting!
Great stuff, as usual :) Reckon it would work if you used less colour in the paint and did more with light colour, so you could make the same pieces suitable for a greeny sewer or a purply magicky cave?
Absolutely spectacular! This is the first video that I have watched from your channel. Leif over at Devs & Dice recommended your channel in his Q&A video. He certainly has a keen eye for excellence. I love this cavern idea. I would really love to build this as a display piece for our minis.
Thanks so much! Leif and the Devs & Dice channel are amazing. And yep totally agree about using them as a display, it was a sinister secret reason for crafting them 😅
Wow! World class video and top notch finished product ❄️ Are you playing or DMing Icewind Dale currently? We started a few weeks ago and it has been a very interesting campaign so far 😬
Thanks so much! Alas no haven't started this campaign yet, but I've been super inspired by the book and gearing up for when my Icespire peak adventure may lead into it.
I mostly use it for online games, or at the back/DM screen end of things so I haven't had that issue. That said, you could totally make versions with lower walls and the same techniques
How has the sculptamold snow held up since it's been a year? Thinking about using this and was just curious. Great video. Totally stealing some of these ideas for a SW Legion board.
Thanks for asking! Yeah always great to see how these effects go over time. In that year it's been used in a few games with fog effects. It's still mostly intact with no yellowing.
Absolutely fantastic work. Two questions though - Was the EVA foam something you'd recommend or just because you had it on hand? Or if you're using eva, can you still get this same effect and skip foamcore? Also - I love what you did with the styrofoam, but I'd be curious if you know of a more environmentally friendly alternative in this execution.
Hey thanks for watching! The thought with the EVA foam was that it's gonna create a bit of grip for the pieces, but you could get away with using an alternative. I probably wouldnt skip the foamcore because its easier to shape for the flagstone effect, EVA foam is a bit more elastic, and not as easy to shape this kind of detail. As for the styrofoam, doesn't get any more enviromental than saving it from landfill and using it in my crafts, but i'd love to hear any alternatives for bulking up the cave walls before sculptamold-ing. Maybe even bunched up newspaper could work.
Another brilliant video! How do you get such intriguing camera angles? Your opening shots make the caverns look much bigger than they are. And what lighting effects did you use this time? Trying to learn all I can!
Thanks so much for watching! Composition and lighting helps, but the camera I use has a decent field of view and a broader focal range, so that might add to the sense of size. With the exception of a few shots, most of this video is shot on a Logitech Streamcam.
As for the lighting, it's mostly a combination of a general soft light (white), a led color change flood or those dmx par lights, (sometimes to water ripple party light) and some smaller lights that are designed as mini led spotlights for christmas displays that i've put color gels on (these are my favorite lately) instagram.com/p/CH1OpWVnkvB/?
Hmm, that's a good question. I have seen some channels use PVA or Elmer's glue. This step is optional, I just like it cause gives some added strength to the terrain
This terrain is incredible, but isn't that a LOT of time spent for terrain that will be moved through rather quickly? Just trying to decide my opportunity cost...
Thanks for watching! You can use these in a variety of ways, personally I love using them as a DM screen as an icey backdrop for a session. A good take away is there are crafting methods here like the rocks and Ice that can translate into other types of builds.

Absolutely awesome
That crumbled polystyrene sheet looks really good as rock.
Very NICE!!!!!! Love how the green color complements the blue!!!!
Thanks very much sir!
These are fantastic! Cant wait to give it a go. (Little known fact... if you dip hot glue in hot water, it goes clear.)
New to this community but I already feel welcome. Thank you
Welcome! A lot of fun showing you the "studio" today 😂

Wow that looks great
Thanks mate!
why do you only have 516 subscribers? Damn. proud to be with the fist 1K. I'm sure you will have lots in the future with vids like this
Thanks buddy! Appreciate the support. Yeah I'm still working out how RUclips works 😅
Keep it up. 10k subs in no time
Only 362 subs with this quality production? Oh well. 363 now.
Thanks for subscribing!
I'm in pure amazement
Had a chance to build the fog machine you did a video on for a campaign finale and the party LOVED IT! I'll be giving this icy terrain a shot soon!
Amazing to hear!
amazing stuff I love the production value!
Absolutely cracking build and presentation is awesome... I may be taking some pointers 😂, keep em coming... subscribed!
Thank you!
Really nice! Thumbs up!
WoW! Amazing! Thanks for an awesome video!
You are the best!!!!!!
So... You gained a sub just on that first shot. Just putting it there.
Thanks for watching and the sub! 😄
Wow you made an ice cave big enough to sit in just for that one shot?! 😋

Just living out my dreams of making miniatures for movie magic 😅

Thanks! I learnt it's important to look at reference photos 😂

@@Atmoseeker I think it does 😅 gonna do some testing and trial and error. Either way it's going to be a fun project.
Thanks for the inspiration again my friend! Love the video and the project.
Did you end up painting the ice sickles as well?
Thanks mate! The icicles are mostly unpainted, maybe a little bit of white drybrushed where it connects with the cave rock
Thanks for this video, it’s what I was looking for to help with a diorama I’m making.
Amazing! I like how well you explain the under airbrushing, I am still new to that aspect of painting and it helps a lot!
Thanks very much and thanks for watching! Yeah the airbrush is a fantastic hobby tool to learn

That's an interesting idea to try out. For sure you might be able to get some mileage out of it for different settings that way.
How did you create the ice ?
Awesome video, thank you so much!
What kind of mat are you using for applying the hot glue icicles to around 5:14
Thanks! Yeah that's a handy Silicone Hot Glue mat i picked up from my local craft store.

Depending on the type of PVA, it might tend to warp things, so I'd definitely try it on a test piece first or water it down
