I need these! My group is currently in a dark forest with "cursed" trees and animals. These trees would fit the vibe im after so much but I don't have the talent, Patience or attention span to make them myself.
Thanks very much! If you have a printer, Printable Scenery has a good variety of tree styles you can print. They print in a way you can warm up and bend to branches into more twisted shapes.
What a great project and video!!! I started something similar with fencing wire but it didn't work well and was abandoned. This has got me looking for it to give it another go - thank you!!!
@@Atmoseeker Definitely. I was aiming to implement that sort of thing into my own games sooner or later, some guidance from someone who's done the legwork would be awesome. And cool to see even if you don't plan on getting one! All the best with the channel mate, you've done a great job so far :)
Im incorporating so much of your stuff into my next one shot it's insane. A portal has opened between the material plane and The Abyss, these trees will really help so how corrupted the land has become. I love it! Adding the smog as well is just gonna pop this session into next level!!!! Oh and I have the lighting you suggested as well......I may even use the voice modulation as well. My GOOODNESS you've created a damn monster haha. I appreciate you sir.
@@Atmoseeker absolutely. I will ask my players to take photos and videos and then tag your channel. I will then repost and hopefully push people towards your channel. 💪
I only ever played D&D online. Now starting a new campaign live, and discovering all these videos. Pretty crazy how great these home maid terrain you make turn out, but I'm overwhelmed quite hard as well :D
Thanks for watching! Creating terrain can be intimidating, especially if you're starting out, but I love the inspiration it can create for players and that it lets you explore gameplay ideas. My advice would be to start with something simple that's fast to make. These Quick-Caves are something I still use in my setups to date ruclips.net/video/ZNaFPLwaewk/видео.html
Thanks David! I nabbed it from a craft store called "Spotlight" here in Australia which has knitting and floral stuff. Might be able to find some online if you search "florist wire brown paper"
I picked it up from my local craftstore in the floral section (spotlight). If you search Amazon for plastic miss you might be able to find something similar
That's some florist wire I found at a local craft store. Basically it's wire that has some brownish paper wrapped tightly around it. This is the one I picked up www.spotlightstores.com/home-decor/floristry-greenery/floristry-supplies/vivaldi-natural-wrapped-floral-wire/80217009?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw4ri0BhAvEiwA8oo6FzuHfbsBBayzD31Ot8lQ2bvjLhOuZi6qVy13k_ea4KU8R9uASuRkcxoCDJ0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Hey Sebastian, don't you use any sealant to fix dead leafs and foliage once it's glued down ? I find my sceneries to be to fragile and sprikling it's foliage quite easily when minis walks around it. Any tips / advices ?
Some spray varnish usually does the trick for me, but I have seen people use some watered down PVA for sealant. Terrain tutor has some videos on it ruclips.net/video/iBE41gN_cBc/видео.html
Dude, very impressed with your channel and your projects. Maybe try collaborating with some of the other D&D channels to up your subscription base. You really deserve to have way more subs than you do. Really great videos super super polished, can't wait to watch more
@@Atmoseeker noticed Miscast Terrain commenting on your fog video, believe he's another southern hemispherer, would be good to see you guys collab on something. Do you edit professionally? Your videos look like you've been streaming for years
Thanks very much, still have a ways to go as a channel but appreciate all the suggestions and feedback. Wouldn't turn down the idea of collaborating with many of the talented crafting channels, will see what the future holds. I have worked in video and animation, so it's fun to be able to use those skills for my hobby.
Hey Sebastian ! Saw a lot of people making their scenery on MDF bases but the cutting phase is just so annoying... Will give a shot to foamcore bases like you did here, seems so much easier ! Just a little question : isn't it way more fragile in the end ? Ground texture might help harden it a bit tho ? Thanks for the inspiration !
Thanks for watching! Yeah, I don't have the tools for MDF bases, but have found that foamcore (with paper on both sides) is plenty sturdy, especially after using some sculptamold and modpodge. I've actually dropped them a few times (because I'm a huge klutz) and they're totally fine. It's true the MDF bases might be a bit stronger and add some weight, but it's not like we're throwing these things around the room.
This was a great tutorial and after a long time of searching a one that is finally leaving out all that "cover everything in DIY washes bull shit" and "mix every color by yourself bull shit" and "100% Styrofoam build to instantly look like a styrofoam build and to avoid any natural material bullshit". (Sorry about my frustration I just can't watch that things anymore...) You did everything right! The pieces look totally professional in the end. You use colors that have a name (There is a reason why painters use these paints all the time). The presentation and mood of the vid is excellent. Everything is shown within an appropriate amount of time, you just show the important stuff. Florists wire maybe could be changed by aluminium foil to make the build a little faster?
Thanks very much for watching! Yes editing is important, I just want to show the meat of the video (in more recent videos on the channel I try to keep them in the 5-10 minute range.) Great idea to use foil as an alternative for having texture on wire for the thicker branches. Florists wire was something I had on hand from the original craft.
What an absolutely amazing Swamp Tree! I was literally starstruck seeing you make that big tree just with some cut foam and superglue. Definately going to try THAT! The Leaf Litter is such a good idea! I was really in the works to buy some of those pre-cut litterboxes you can get online, but this seems so much cheaper and better! Just a quick question: What brand are your acrylics? I looked for Burnt Umber and found brands like Vallejo offering entire bottles of them. What would you recommend? I personally make my Moss by BLENDING Army Painter Flock and actual Moss. The Moss that is not entirely blended will have little tendrils sticking out, while the real flock will fill the edges and bumps, creating a really nice texture to it.
Thanks so much! Yeah that hot glue texture has been my go-to for bark. The acrylics i've been using are mostly dollar/craft store paints. It's a mix of brands in this build, but lately it's been 'Americana' or 'DecoArt'. A US equivalent might be a brand like 'Applebarrel'.

Not sure it's been said in the comments already, but sculptamold is like super duper hard. Major hard. Totally durrable. About as dental plaster
