The thing about people that belong to cults is that they genuinely don't believe they are in a cult. Dodging questions like this becomes second nature after a while, and his prominent position in the organisation definitely gives him an incentive to speak about it in a positive light. I have no doubt that being a member of the Church of Scientology has helped him with his business ventures, but there is definitely a darker side to the organisation that he likely doesn't have much personal experience with due to his loyalty and support.

Companies have been trying for a long time to break that market open, he mainly brought much more investment income, it was a matter of right place right time, battery tech had been advancing with mass adoption of lithium-ion, and the push for green vehicles was ramping up huge. If it wasn't Elon, it would have been any number of other billionaires, it was simply t he path the industry was headed for.
Also, imagine a course on being more confident causing you to just give yourself over to a cult, as though there aren't a plethora of other options that can do the same thing for you. But Scientology can be more successful in that aspect by essentially convincing you to think about interactions in a more psychopathic way that strips away worries.
