It’s almost like…. Skateboarding should just be for fun? When I was a kid something that stuck with me big time was an older veteran skater at my local said something to me like “it’s not about going pro, or being sponsored, getting free stuff, or anything like that. The goal is to find yourself a job that allows you the free time to still have the ability to skate on into old age… just doing it for fun.” That shit always stuck with me. And I’m happy that I have a job that allows me to still be a skater and I still love to skate 20 years later… skateboarding doesn’t owe anybody anything- it’s just a fun thing to do.
the importance of fun is severely underrated. a lot of people with office jobs have health problems from lack of physical activity, it actually kills a huge number of people. skating even longboarding can and does help prevent this.
Everyone should leave rn, leave Arron behind, start a company that isn’t just funding Scientology. Aim completely to get new skaters while still making quality videos and boards
The ringing complaint ive heard of every member thats left (uzi, mogley, even nigel before he came back on board) was unfair compensation for time and energy spent making content. Meanwhile Kyro has donated over 750,000 to scientology

@@90snewzbro the church of Scientology just announced Aaron as their new leader in the Bay Area. That’s such a huge deal for a member to become that. He’s big timing in Scientology.

man interesting about the warehouse. that might of worked for rob and fantasy factory back in the day, but ya those warehouse videos feel incredibly half a55ed
I 100% agree. That's what drew me to them originally. Lance and Aaron at the skate park randomly meeting up with friends or new kids, just doing tricks and teaching or trying out boards people sent them via mail. It all felt organic and fun. The warehouse was cool for the first year because it was something new, but the videos lost that fun organic vibe quickly. They turned into productions and felt predictable because it was always the same people. There was no longer a camera pan to see some random skaters reacting to Aaron riding and crashing on a viewer made board. Instead it was just the same crew. I lost interest in the channel after a while because it felt like I was viewing the same content over and over again.
Idk I get it's not the same vibe but being BLASTED by the sun and random kids coming through can also have some negatives. It seems a lot more lively at the parks but those "The floor is lava" videos they shoot at the warehouse are AMAZING entertainment!
Scientology is a controversial religious movement founded by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1950s. It is based on Hubbard's book "Dianetics," which proposes a self-help philosophy called "Dianetics." Scientology teaches that humans are immortal beings (called "Thetans") trapped in material bodies, and that spiritual freedom and enlightenment can be achieved through a process called "auditing." Auditing involves counseling sessions using an electropsychometer (E-meter) to locate and confront past traumas and negative experiences. The Church of Scientology has been criticized for its authoritarian structure, alleged abuse of members, and controversial practices like "disconnection" (cutting ties with non-member family and friends). Some former members and outside observers have accused the church of financial exploitation, emotional manipulation, and cult-like behavior. Scientology has also been the subject of numerous legal battles, allegations of harassment and intimidation, and criticism from ex-members and outside experts. Despite this, the church maintains a significant following and has been recognized as a religion in some countries. However, its legitimacy and practices remain a topic of debate and concern.

As long as anyone he works with don't get labeled a "suppressive person" it really shouldn't matter (as being in contact with a SP would get Aaron labeled a "potential trouble source" and that could easily lead to Aaron being labeled an SP himself. Aside from maybe having a little more rules than usual and Aaron pinching pennies so he can tow the line and not paying people more I doubt it really affects anything; I also highly doubt there is active recruiting going on and that Aaron does that solely through leading by example. On the other hand I wonder about people who left (not counting people with controversy like Fetty of Carlos) because they feared getting label "fair game" by the church or just they respected Aaron enough to not want to get him in trouble as he can get demoted, heavily interrogated, or even put in jail or sentenced to hard labor among other strange punishments.
Oh brother. Its worse than that. He's donated over a million and is now a leader in the SF bay area. Gotta keep donating big to keep leadership status.

I will say this much, I think that if we want to revive skateboarding (no pun intended) or anything we are passionate about really.. a big thing we could do is what Tony Hawk did in the 2000’s, take a shot and get involved. Even the Jackass crew skated. Our community should be tighter (that doesn’t mean we have to live next to each other, or see each other every day) and we should all giveaway used boards to people who could use them. I grew up in the projects, me, my brother and our crew used to give our old skateboards out to all the kids that watched us skate - And I think we made a big difference in their lives, definitely inspired them to keep trying.. and a big marketing ploy that skateboarding could use is getting people like yourself, John, into Skate 4 - or even creating an independent skateboarding game that represents a lot of not just the RUclips community, but that represents local people and the true heart of what skateboarding is. I know that trends come and go, but I think deep down that everyone longs for what the world was like in the 80s and 90s. The sense of connection through a shared passion, The human connection and way of life, having genuine fun like we used to have before the Internet, to summarize it, hope. I think skateboarding represents that kind of freedom of expression everyone wants deep down. …Maybe I sound a little crazy, I don’t know.
I didn't even have a problem with Aaron being the leader of SF Scientology until he denied it. That reeked of having something to hide. He knows his rank, he knows what it means, if he'd owned it and said something transparent about how Scientology helped him, then I'd just figure it's a self help group and let it be, but that's not how it works with them.

Very insightful! Your story of owning a warehouse/skatepark is so common, and it resonates with me and many other skate-entrepreneurs. I love your insight of using RUclips as an additional revenue stream for business owners. The skate industry is at a very interesting point right now because it seems like the sport of skateboarding is booming, but so many skate shops and indoor parks are closing, along with so many pros being vocal about "not making money from skating". We definitely need more revenue streams to continue to grow our community. In addition, we need to have more videos like this to educate us skaters to build a sustainable businesses that lead to attaining assets and not grinding it out on the hamster wheel. Thanks John for bringing light to this tough subject that all skaters should know about. 🤘🤘

SKateboard industry is hurting pretty bad. You say we arent charging enough for skateboards, as a company owner who tries to keep prices low, I can say we are charging plenty. The issue is that the production cost of the wood (not the boards but the wood) is just above that of 2019 pricing. Since 2020, everyone took on the inflated pricing and have held rather than dropped with a push of "well, its time to increase". The $70+ price tags for decks added into the bad economy has begun killing the industry and is holding it with a choke hold.
Two reasons. 1. Every single sector of the world is struggling right now but particularly the youtube adjacent sectors. The collectibles markets, the music markets the musical instrument sales market, hollywood, streaming services, etc etc. RUclips created a giant hype bubble for the last decade that ultimately peaked in the pandemic. The hype bubble is over. Almost all youtube channels are struggling. Interest rates are super high so people can't afford to borrow as much money anymore so they aren't spending as much which is the exact purpose of raising the interest rates. The market became saturated because of hype and everyone overspent. There were how many skateboarding channels with their own skateparks? Too many. It was an unsustainable business model. People spent like money doubled every year as a fact or rule. And now they know it doesn't and they have to cut back 2. They ran out of good ideas. Plain and simple. You can only watch the floor is lava so many times before it gets old. Once they ran out of you make it we skate it boards they were destined for the doldrums. As for not getting paid enough. Skaters have never been compensated very much. That's why every single skater starts their own something. As for scientology. That was ill timed but had nothing to do with the drop in views and interest.
Think it’s important not to put too much blame on Gabe here, or any at all, for his association with Kyro. Yes it’s concerning and yes he should probably cut ties, but Kyro has been in his life since he was 15, when he was a kid. He’ll no doubt feel indebted to the guy, and have some kind of attachment to him - he’s essentially been groomed by a Scientologist, to put it bluntly.
There's also a bit of a difference between a guy who fucks around with scientology and a guy who's invested millions & spent 6 months in Florida training to take over one of the main branches. When everyone was asking where's Aaron why's he not in videos, that was why. And they all pretended he was off doing family life stuff.
the us is just in a fight or flight mode. The mental conditioning since Covid has been tough. I walk up to ppl at the skatepark and they’re afraid. Kids used to teach me tricks and kick it, things are just changing socially. Skateboarding will have a resurgence if we get another modern renaissance when people can actually feel free. I think the United States encourages self preservation and skating is a risky sport to take on. I’m only speaking from my own perspective and definitely still see cool ppl skating, but economically I can see why people would stop skating

Garret stop doing skateboarding videos too I believe and he just does gaming videos. It’s sad that a lot of the skateboarding community is slowly going down because for some people who weren’t watching it from the start it’s hard to see skateboarding being interesting
I just dont want skating to die, with no companies nobody has boards and it could come back but it could also end up the only way to get boards is making them in your garage, and peoples salary dosent go up but skating prices do so people cant afford skateboards anymore
If skating ever fully dies it’ll be because of something big to the level of a societal collapse. In its history there have been really bad periods of unpopularity, but it has come back every time. I go to skate parks and shops in my area and still get the feeling of a strong skate community.
Skating won't die. When the big companies of a sport die, people passionate about the thing will start making shit at home, and a new ecosystem comes around. That's exactly what happened in the Downhill scene. A few years ago, longboarding and DH had a boom, big brands made stuff. That boom is over, and some of the most popular gear in downhill right now is literally garage productions sold over DMs on instagram.
brother… as long as the community is here, skating will NEVER die. Skate shops will always exist as long as there’s a market. That market is the community.

man interesting about the warehouse. that might of worked for rob and fantasy factory back in the day, but ya those warehouse videos feel incredibly half a55ed
Seeing all those old clips of yall skating together just brought back so many memories. It’s sad that memories flee us as time goes on.
Scientology is a controversial religious movement founded by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1950s. It is based on Hubbard's book "Dianetics," which proposes a self-help philosophy called "Dianetics."
Scientology teaches that humans are immortal beings (called "Thetans") trapped in material bodies, and that spiritual freedom and enlightenment can be achieved through a process called "auditing." Auditing involves counseling sessions using an electropsychometer (E-meter) to locate and confront past traumas and negative experiences.

How far in Scientology is Aaron and how much does it play in to people quitting?
As long as anyone he works with don't get labeled a "suppressive person" it really shouldn't matter (as being in contact with a SP would get Aaron labeled a "potential trouble source" and that could easily lead to Aaron being labeled an SP himself.
Aside from maybe having a little more rules than usual and Aaron pinching pennies so he can tow the line and not paying people more I doubt it really affects anything; I also highly doubt there is active recruiting going on and that Aaron does that solely through leading by example.
On the other hand I wonder about people who left (not counting people with controversy like Fetty of Carlos)
because they feared getting label "fair game" by the church or just they respected Aaron enough to not want to get him in trouble as he can get demoted, heavily interrogated, or even put in jail or sentenced to hard labor among other strange punishments.

Man, those lyrics make even more sense nowadays
I love Gabe, hard to see him leave... But I think he will do well with his new project! Very talented and kind person!
I didn't even have a problem with Aaron being the leader of SF Scientology until he denied it. That reeked of having something to hide.
I was not expecting you to be so honest about the money, It was obvious to me but no one talks about it
Two reasons.
And now they know it doesn't and they have to cut back

One dude actually made small talk with me but instantly left the park, went out 50 meters into the grass to sit a bench and smoke a cigg. Like jesus christ you could just tell me to smoke in peace id leave ya alone man. Felt like I was interacting with a bugged oblivion NPC.
10 years ago Id remember so many locals from the skatepark thatd id see some 15 year old kid 2 years later at a grocery store and it was nice too feel a sense of community. We had this badass security guard that was super chill, some new yorker guy who was always the life of the park getting all the cliques together and setting up fun stuff for us to do. "yo lets setup this trash can and all do tricks over it back to back" While he could barely ollie a 2 stair dude was a legend cuz he loved the sport so much.
We are in weird times brother
Yeah bro, that six feet distancing trickles down into corrupting the pysche
Gabe saw the writing on the wall. He probably found out how much money Aaron had siphoned from the channel and decided to dip before it imploded.
I truly hope gab starts his own company
things that have been around and will continue to be around for a long time (skateboarding, art, the stock market, etc.) has ups and downs, and we're just down rn. the next big change in skateboarding will come eventually and it might go crazy
You can do anything you set your sights on, we believe in you and I know this is a skate channel but you should show us your new passions too if you want to :) I'm sure real fans will care about what you care about.
Really should’ve addressed Scientology here. It sucks but it is a cult to some degree which isolates people.
Wait until you normies find out about the Satanists are the top of the pyramid.
8:00 is worded so well
Skating is art, photographt, illustration, musiv expression... p4obably what i loved most about toy machine and that whole scene... just dont forget that
Garret stop doing skateboarding videos too I believe and he just does gaming videos. It’s sad that a lot of the skateboarding community is slowly going down because for some people who weren’t watching it from the start it’s hard to see skateboarding being interesting
I'm 3 months late but I'm here. I love you man. Thank you for the inspiration. Can't believe this is happening to my favorite skateboard team....
@paul Insane levels of doom and gloom there buddy! haha. theres always gonna be companies making boards
The “just remember” lines from Aaron are salt in the wound. Like “just remember” Aaron, people usually leave a job they love due to leadership. Statistics even show people will go underpaid as long as they really enjoy the work and the environment so..
The recession is real guys, and even the skate community is feeling it
@UniversalFox597 Corporations are feeling it ? If everyone is broke who has all the money then ? DId it just disappear ?
@UniversalFox597 The corporations, the ones controlling and profiting off the inflation? Did you hit your head?
@UniversalFox597 the funding of wars kinda doesn’t cost that much. You send your old stuff, military industrial complex produces newer stuff to put in your military. Stuff produced by american workers. During wartime, the military industrial complex kinda works sort of in the favor of the working class. It’s during peacetime where the industrial military complex gets real bad, because they’re trying to start wars for profit during that era.
The amount of money sent to ukraine is microscopic, but the right wingers want to pretend it’s trillions just so they can help Putin (the right’s favored dictator of the moment) in whatever way they can. Even run cases based on russian propaganda through the courts to cripple the US gvt from doing stuff that needs doing. Yes, I’m talking about the oh-so-real "biden crime family" narrative.. a story literally by russian intelligence that was believed by the GOP… the witness is now in jail for being a spy…
This is a time of global turmoil. Don’t let russia make you believe that you’re spending enougn money on ukraine to actually cause YOU any issues what so ever. Donald gave the elite 3..5 trillion dollars for free… look at that before you discredit the war effort by unwittingly regurgitating what Putin wants you to. We’re being fooled all day, be vigilant. The russian propaganda network is immense.
They are not struggling. Dude just got promoted in the rich people cult. You don't do that if you're broke.
Naw dude people with money always been good always will be. Us regular folks are going through hell though
this channel is called john hill, u have all the freedom to make videos about what ever u find interesting
This is kinda weird I'm watching a reaction to a video with an advertisement in the middle. I need to find better ways of spending my time I guess.
I’m not a skateboarder; just a scooter rider with a skateboard, which I love having and experimenting with. It’s the friendly and supportive skateboarders at the skatepark whom helped drive me to try skateboarding, and if skateboarding wants an area to grow into, then they have to look at every BMX’er, inline skater, scooter rider, and Razor scooter kid as potential future skateboarders.
I think it has a lot to do with the Carlos lastr issuesss or just not paid at all
10:33 YOU CALLED IT
Maybe aaron kyro should donate money to skateboarding and NOT scientology...
He's like the Anti Hawk in that regard for real.
I started skateboarding at 38 because of you guys, learned to Ollie before I was 40 because I knew I wouldn’t ever do it after
That channel really killed skateboarding for me. It went from a cool idea to really cancerous with the amount of spam they were pushing out. I get you need to make a living but sheesh man... really oversaturated their own market for no reason.
As someone who started doing cardisty (like skateboard tricks with a deck of cards) when I was in my late teens now that I’m older I feel like I’m torn on spending time doing adult min/maxing and my heart isn’t in it like it was. sometimes I’ll pick up some cards and what once gave me joy now can cause depression. I’d say my friends went through the same and the cardisty community as a whole just aren’t the same too much struggling to grow more massive each year like it did in the past wasn’t sustainable and you over flood everyone. I think with all hobby’s like this it needs to be strong then weaken for awhile while that strong generation adults then they have kids get nostalgic for it and they teach their kids and those kids bring it back the hobby strong cyclically, just my thoughts
Is it possible that some of the challenges you're all facing right now have to do with basing yourselves in some of the most expensive cities in the country? I mean, San Fran and NYC are literally two of the most expensive cites in the country to live in. Let alone run a business out of. Especially when that business can technically exist in hundreds of other cities around the country. It really seems like some of the biggest challenges you're facing could be minimized (if not completely nullified) by moving to a new location with lower operational costs.
Bingo. But skateboarding and skateboarders are notoriously stubborn and peter panning away from reality. The skate industry needs financial accountability if it wants to survive. I'm with you 100 percent sell off the warehouses and relocate to the middle of nowhere like many, many manufacturing companies do
@@Sellbow I wouldn't even say they need to move to the middle of nowhere, but there are hundreds of other medium sized cities around the country that cost half as much to live in as San Fran and NYC.
Honestly. We, those who like sk8, are just happy to Be able to essentially skate with you guys... If you like skate, you like skate. It's that simple for us simple minded folk
I get the need for a SquareSpace ad but man the timing in this video didn't feel right.
u can just skip it btw
@@idetestbirds9114 no you must watch all of it and enjoy it
Skateboarding companies are struggling because the market is over saturated. Every man and his dog has a board company, plus shoe companies. The skateboard market can’t sustain Thant many companies. The pie is so big and with some many companies trying to take a slice, the slices have to get smaller.
Skate IQ is better anyway
oh 100%
